OUIL 504: KEY MOMENTS
FINDINGS
Summer research: I found a Jay feather and a very creepy Victorian family portrait in the same week. I took these as a message from POE FROM THE DEAD, sending me signs to read his work and make art about him/his work. Haunted by crows.
SPOOKY ARTISTS/ART Getting darker: finding artists and storytellers who make Gothic, gruesome pictures for kids. No more sensitivity! Make is scary!
CONCEPT + CONTEXT
Visiting lecturer: Louise Lockhart’s printed products made me consider different ways of approaching the printed pictures format, making something interactive instead of a print or a book.
PROCESS: MONOPRINT AND COLLAGE Not my process of choice, I’m a maker not a printer. But I found a way of still assembling characters and scenes with flat images: collage. Used mono-printed textures and chopped them up, making grainy and noisy characters (moody, suits Poe’s tone of voice).
MOVING PICTURES What I’d been looking forward to! Using the printed pictures to tell stories in motion by making an animation. Looking at spooky/Gothic themed animations to inspire my moving pictures.
