BBC Children’s provides quality programming to millions of children. CBeebies, our TV and online content for 0-6 year olds, aims to educate and entertain our youngest audiences. CBBC focuses on the primary school age group, and offers original drama, animation, entertainment, news, sport, comedy and factual programming across a host of platforms. Between them, they produce more than 1,000 hours of original quality television each year, and our websites and interactive television services reach millions of children. AIM OF THE ROLE
The BBC Childrens Puppetry Intern will provide effective support as a Runner/Assistant in either in an office, Production or Design capacity, primarily assisting Stage Managers/Puppet Captains/Wranglers with the efficient running of the studios set up they are placed in. Each placement is aimed to be hands on working in a studio environment with a programme or team working on a BBC Children’s puppet show. During the internship the on the job training will provide the candidates with a sound understanding and knowledge of the performance skills and nonperformance skills required to succeed in the industry. This Internship will provide the successful applicants with a foundation in the skills required to assist a television puppeteer.

ROLE TITLE WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
BBC Children’s Puppetry Internship Over the course of your Internship you will build your skills and knowledge to be able to successfully: Assisting Wranglers to rig and dress puppets Marking and setting scripts for Puppeteers Setting up Puppeteer trolleys and monitors as required Rodding and assisting with rigging puppet props as required Looking after puppets between takes and downtime, storing and protecting the puppets whenever required Preparing the puppet at beginning of each day and storing at the end of day Making sure the puppet looks its best before going on camera To perform and handle props as required Perform hands and legs of puppets as required Perform background puppet characters as required Support diversity in every aspect of the production(s) Maintain a safe and healthy working environment at all times, escalating any issues or areas of concern You will also be expected to: Support the production team in the office, on location, and in the studio Undertake general office duties including collecting tapes and kit, logging material, photocopying, answering telephones, faxing and filing Provide hospitality for visitors/production team (tea/coffee making) Act as a first point of contact for a range of both internal and external callers and visitors ensuring that these are given a positive image of the BBC and the department
