FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. Is it better to have a tenant on Section 8 or not? Section 8 is similar to housing benefit. Ask a bunch of UK landlords which they prefer and you’ll get a mixed set of answers. It’s the same here in Motor City. Section 8 means you’ll get the rent paid (or part of it) from the state.
2. How long are the tenant leases for? The norm is anything from 1 YEAR (YEAR-to-YEAR tenancy) to a 3 year lease. Like all contracts it’s designed to accommodate both you and your tenant. Most tenants are happy to sign a 1-year lease.
