ECONOMY LOW-INCOME RESIDENCIES
JAZMYNE KNOX | ARCH 301 | FALL 2020 | INSTRUCTOR: PROFESSOR STROTHER 01
Project Statement: Creating housing for incoming and low-income families in the Bluffton area that revovles around the aesthetic and cultute of Bluffton, SC. Design Objectives: Creating a community in a natural environment and including an environment for others to create in and interact with was a goal for the architectural design. The architectural plan prioritizes these experiences residents and outsiders may have within the community. The neighborhood is welcoming to tourists and allows them to engage with the exterior spaces such as the food truck area and the public park and playground area.

COTERIE, 115 Bluffton Rd. Jazmyne Knox, Paula Baworska Familes That Grow Together The proposed site at 115 Bluffton Rd is located in Old Town Bluffton in Beafort County of South Carolina. Bluffton is a fast-growing town that is in need of housing for low-income earning families. Located on a bluff overlooking the May River, Old Town Bluffton is a little one-squaremile village of moss-draped, oak-shaded streets, lined with art and antique galleries, boutiques and eateries. Born as a river village, much of life in Bluffton continues to revolve around the river — with water sports and seafood as two of the main attractions. PROJECT STATEMENT A coterie is a small group of peaople with shared interestes and values. Working with interlocking shared spaces and private spaces the intention is to form residencies for up and coming families as well as including public green spaces for public use to grow produce that is protected from wildlife.

The use of shipping containers is a way to make use of disposable items, or waste and contribute to the preservation of the enviornment. Along with shipping containers, the project also utilizes locally sourced wood which limits carbon footprint saves time and energy from harvest to transport, maintenance, and creates a warm atmosphere.

DIVERSITY MUSEUM OF GENDER ARTS
JAZMYNE KNOX | DSGN 224 | SPRING 2018 | INSTRUCTOR: PROFESSOR AFIFI 07
Project Statement: The concept of this project is based around the idea of equality versus equity and its place within nature. By visiting this museum, visitors will have a better understanding of their role in society and nature. In order to understand our place we must understand what is above us and below us and realize that they are not less than or greater than each other but play a role in our expiernces.

Concept Drawings
The site plan is modeled from a female reproductive system because that’s where all human nature starts. The tensile system allows for sustainable shading as well as low economy building because of its lightness. .The tensile represents air, the bridge is earth, the sunlight is fire, and the lower roof below the bridge is water. 10

TRUSS INVESTIGATION GROUP ASSIGNMENT
JAZMYNE KNOX | ARCH 319 | WINTER 2018 | INSTRUCTOR: PROFESSOR DAMERON 11
Program Statement: For this assignment, we were tasked with making any type of truss with a span of 36 inches that would be useful for load testing. The truss should be able to hold at least 15 lbs and weigh less than 5 lbs. Design Objectives: We decided to do a Pratt truss and, as part of the design process, we created a test model before our final. For the purpose of testing we had to create two which were spaced 5 inches apart using chords.
MOCKUP BUILDING AND TESTING
Aligning the vertical members of the truss.
Finished first half of truss.
Making four more.
Trial Observations
• Assuming that each brick weighed approximately 5 lbs., our truss was able to hold 35 lbs. overall. • The truss started to shake from the load at 25 lbs. and final collapsed after 35. • The truss failed at the ends but for the most part the trusses stayed in tact. • The two trusses broke apart in the process.
Connecting the trusses to the horizontal members.
Preparing for testing.
Measuring for accuracy.
Ideas for Improving
• We failed in the cords between the two trusses so if they were deeper, then the overall strength between the two trusses will be better • We can cut the joints at the center of the verticals rather than at their corners. • We could use crossed pieces between the trusses instead of horizontal ones so the trusses have a better chance to stay together because the diagonal members will be resisting shear when braced together • We could reinforce the center crossed member of each truss since that should be where the strongest force load is. • For the strength-to-weight ratio we could use thinner members overall.
12
BUILDING PROCESS
Materials 1/8” x 1/4” Poplar Glue
Final Changes
• Instead of using horizontal members between the trusses we used crossed pieces because we feel this will increase their strength. • We cut the joints at the center of the verticals rather than at their corners.
Individual Work
My work included laying out our process work, advising on changes made, and recording quantitative and qualitative observations. 13

RESILIENCY A RECREATION AND DISASTER RELIEF CENTER
JAZMYNE KNOX | ARCH 302 | WINTER 2019 | INSTRUCTOR: PROFESSOR BACHA
Project Statement: This project will serve to create an area of relief in terms of activity as well as disaster. It will become an area of refugee, in every sense of the word, for all people regardless of race, socioeconomic status, and/or ideals. It will bridge communities and celebrate the historical society of Savannah. It will serve to better the ecological and cultural potential of the city.
Creating terracing that flows with the topography which can help slow down the runoff velocity of water, protecting our
Putting buildings in channels with retaining walls embeded in the earth then building them on top of pontoons so when the earth floods water will flow into channels allowing the building to float.
The bridge was once used as a connection from a poor city to an affluent city. By introducing this community greenhouse it will leverage interaction amongst the community in the same way that was done in the past, while also providing a source of food during a state of emergency.

JAZMYNE KNOX | ARCH 404 | FALL 2019 | INSTRUCTOR: PROFESSOR WHITE 21
Project Statement: Supporting the psychological mindset of children by reflecting on their scale and impact in the biosphere through the withdrawal of urban spaces. Design Objectives: Creating a fun and colorful day camp and park for children across from a church in the middle of a busy city.
Undulating timber facade attched to columns.
Activing alleyways in Downtown Savannah for eating and walking.
Private spaces for walking and reflection under buildings.
Classrooms with views of the street below and church across the street. 22

WELL-BEING URBAN FOOD HUB
JAZMYNE KNOX | ARCH 406 | SPRING 2020 | INSTRUCTOR: PROFESSOR AFIFI
Project Statement: The focus of my design is fluidity. My design intent is to mimic the freedom and flflow within the site to create meaningful freedom and flow within the community. By introducing a food hub to downtown Savannah we’re giving people the space to make better choices that may multiply and flflourish throughout Savannah. This idea is similar to the ripple effect where, like ripples across the water when an item is dropped in it, the food hub will be able to be mimicked anywhere.
My form is going to have an organic geometry established with paths and tree avenues while building off the geometry that is set forth for the rest of the city in order to create visual balance. Site Planthe and Section I want to stimulate ideaSIte of weaving through space to take advantage of time and views. Large gardens of produce will be setup roadside to allow for passing traffific to see the site. Connecting bothassides of theforsite The large gardens will serve the landmark the by site. Site paths will feed of intopathways. the bridge tunnels to encourage exploration. way
