STUDIO PRACTICE Project Proposal Jazz Harbord
Name
Blog Address
Date Rationale As Hull enters into its year as City of Culture it seems like a prime time to focus a project on both my love of my hometown and live music. I propose to create a series of gig posters (and perhaps additional supporting material? Turn the posters into album covers?) to promote a few chosen band’s (music venues? Music festivals?) based in Hull. I already have a few contacts both in bands and the music industry within Hull so would be able to use a range of primary research in both terms of collating visual reference imagery and speaking to the bands // owners of record labels etc.
Themes / Subjects
Live music – gig posters – design – music promotion – advertising? – Hull – bands – merchandise?

BA (Hons) Illustration - Level 06 OUIL603 Extended Practice – Major Brief BRIEF TITLE Brief As Hull enters into its year as City of Culture, this brief aims to draw attention to the currently thriving independent music scene in Hull. Focusing on a select number of bands, venues or record labels, it is proposed a series of gig posters be created to promote the Hull music scene.
Products & Proposals
Function & Context
A2 Gig Posters (six?) Perhaps use imagery from gig posters to mock onto vinyl covers etc.
Promoting Hull’s music scene through celebrating their grassroots talent, venues and pre-existing music scene. Informative with gig dates, venues, record labels?
Context & Distribution
Audience & Tone of Voice
Mock up as though they were posted in streets, venues, online (?) to advertise and promote Hull’s music scene. Perhaps sold online too or mocked up onto bands merchandising sites?
Fans of underground and local music. People already involved within the Hull music scene (be that either in a band or just a fan going to gigs). Needs to be visually eye-catching to also draw and attract the attention of the everyday public walking by the posters if they are to promote the city.
Additional information/Considerations
Deliverables Minimum 6 A2 gig posters full colour. Additional proposed material may also be used such as mock ups onto street / road signs, bus advertisements, merchandise, and web material.
