The Bavarian state government has commissioned bavAIRia e.V. with the management of the aviation and aerospace cluster as well as the satellite navigation cluster. bavAIRia’s goal is to pinpoint Bavarian expertise in aviation, aerospace and satellite navigation, to strengthen the connections between specialists and thus to preserve and intensify the global competitiveness of above-mentioned branches. The members of bavAIRia e.V. reflect the entire range of Bavaria’s industry and research in all its diversity.

bavAIRia – primary thematic emphases Together with industry and research groups, bavAIRia develops appropriate measures in the areas of technology, financing, the securing of expertise, and internationalization, monitoring and facilitating their realization. bavAIRia initiates and organizes specific platforms for the aviation and aerospace cluster in order to focus on and actively support fields of high strategic relevance, including engine construction, “more electric aircraft,” cabins, engineering services, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), defence, small- and micro-satellites, and EU/ESA programs such as “Global Monitoring for Environment and Security” (GMES). In the satellite navigation cluster, GNSS user forums on security, GIS and land use, tourism and leisure, transport and logistics, e-health, and space applix & IT/I&K are actively engaged in implementing innovative
ideas and applications in dialog with users. The Galileo Road Show presentation acquaints the general public with the potentials of Galileo far beyond the borders of Bavaria. In the context of EU projects, bavAIRia e.V. links Bavarian industry and research with ESA, GSA and the European Commission. Throughout the clusters, bavAIRia concentrates on “education and training” in order to ensure the availability of a new generation of well-trained experts. The platform “Science bavAIRia” also focuses on both clusters in order to intensify interactions between universities and research institutions.
Aviation, aerospace and satellite navigation are among the most important innovation motors of the Bavarian economy. In these areas, Bavaria looks back on decades of successful history leading up to its position as one of Europe’s top regions today. Some 35,000 people work in this branch of the Bavarian economy, making up about a third of those employed in this field in Germany as a whole. Bavaria is distinguished by its globally active systems companies, its large complement of small and medium-sized businesses, and its unique concentration of research institutions and universities of international repute. In addition, it offers initiatives specifically designed to support start-up companies, especially in the young branch of satellite navigation. An excellent financial and transportation infrastructure rounds off the profile of Bavaria’s range of relevant capabilities.
