You will find courses that provide opportunities for you to learn a new hobby, learn a new skill, enjoy time doing what fulfills the soul, or even decide to enroll in a college course. Community education is a key mission of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and is particularly important here at WKCTC. If you have an idea concerning a course of study not already offered at WKCTC, please let us know by contacting Community Education Director Kevin O’Neill at 270-534-3206. We are always interested in adding new and meaningful courses that provides enrichment for anyone at any age. This edition includes several new subjects, all the summer camps offered here at WKCTC, and many offerings back by popular demand. I feel confident you will find something to your liking. Financial Assistance Community Education offers a limited number of scholarships provided through the McCracken County Community Career Endowment. These scholarships are awarded to any African American student who is a resident of McCracken County. For more information call 270-534-3206. Behavior Policy All students are expected to maintain appropriate and respectful behavior while attending camp. If a child is disruptive, disrespectful or inappropriate or jeopardizes the safety of others and staff intervention fails to yield results, parents/guardians will be contacted. If the behavior continues, staff reserves the right to dismiss the student from class without a refund.
CANCELLATION / REFUND POLICY Cancellations can be made up to five business days in advance of the class starting date. If your cancellation jeopardizes the minimum number needed to hold the class, no refund will be issued. The minimum number in order for a class to make is indicated on each offering. Refunds generally take about four weeks to process. Failure to attend class does not constitute cancellation. The College reserves the right to cancel any class.
Safety Students will arrive no earlier than fifteen minutes before camp begins and be picked up immediately following the dismissal of their camp each day. For your child’s safety, a checkin and check-out signature by the parent/ guardian will be required each day.
BAD WEATHER CANCELLATION POLICY If WKCTC cancels classes due to bad weather, Community Education classes will also be canceled. Cancellations will be announced on area radio and TV stations.

Learn about what they did and how they helped humans here on Earth. Meet some live animals similar to those that were launched out of this world! Sessions are two hours in length. Campers will Rendezvous with a Comet™ as they fly a mission in our hands-on simulator. They will work aboard the Space Station to find out just what it takes to study one of the most beautiful objects in space. This is a one-day camp.
Expedition: Moon
$40 ($45 with lunch) July 14, 2016 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Challenger Learning Center Age: Rising 4th – 7th grade Be among the next generation of space travelers to arrive on the Moon! Campers will Return to the Moon™ as they fly a mission in our hands-on simulator. They will explore just what it takes for astronauts to survive in the Moon’s desolate environment. This is a one-day camp.
CSI Camp
$90 ($100 with lunch) July 21 – 22, 2016 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Challenger Learning Center Age: Rising 5th – 8th grade Become a Challenger Special Investigator. Read the ransom note and follow the fingerprints, fibers and other clues. You will use your powers of observation and conduct scientific tests to help solve the mystery of the missing Mars rocks. This is a two-day camp. Mission to Mars
$130 ($145 with lunch) June 27 – 29, 2016 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Challenger Learning Center Age: Rising 4th – 7th grade Be the first humans on Mars! Campers will travel to the Red Planet during a Voyage to Mars™ mission in our hands-on simulator. After arriving on Mars, they will build a life-size colony where they will live, work and train like real planetary astronauts. This is a three-day camp. Rocket Camp
$90 ($100 with lunch) June 6 – 7, 2016 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Challenger Learning Center Age: Rising 5th – 8th grade After learning about the basics of rocketry, participants will build and launch several different types of rockets including eggstronaut rockets and model rockets. This is a two-day camp. Underwater Astronaut Camp $170 ($185 with lunch)
June 20 – 22, 2016 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Challenger Learning Center Age: 11 – 14 years old Learn all about how astronauts train underwater to simulate working in space! Participants will receive basic scuba instruction (in a swimming pool) from Mermet Springs, and then participate in an underwater astronaut training program. Participants must be able to swim and medically fit to dive. Scuba gear is provided. This is a three-day camp. Mandatory meeting held on May 23, 2016.
Underwater ISS Camp $170 ($185 with lunch)
July 18 – 20, 2016 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Challenger Learning Center Age: 11 – 14 years old Help build the International Space Station! After receiving astronaut training, we will put our skills to work building a large scale model (spans several lanes of the pool) of the ISS underwater. Participants must be able to swim and medically fit to snorkel. Snorkel training and gear provided by Mermet Springs. This is a three-day camp. Mandatory meeting held on May 23, 2016.
Aviation Camp
$195 ($210 with lunch) June 13 – 15, 2016 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Challenger Learning Center Age: 13 – 16 years old What makes an airplane fly? Learn the basics of flight and apply them in different handson activities and simulations. After you have shown “The Right Stuff,” take a flight in a real airplane departing from Midwest Aviation. While in the air you will become an actual pilot when you take the yoke and fly the plane. This is a three-day camp. CHALLENGER HOMESCHOOL PROGRAMS

During the last session they will determine the best landing spot and fly to the moon in our space simulators. May 18, 2016 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Challenger Learning Center Age: 6-8 Calling all astronomers! After we learn all about the stars and the pictures they make, we will create our very own constellations and build a real planetarium!

First part of class will be taught by a professional photographer--bring your digital cameras and or phones. Master the basics of your digital camera and learn the secrets behind outstanding photos! Whether you have a digital SLR, a point-and-shoot camera or something in between (like your phone), you’ll learn how to use it the way you want to in this hands-on course! Some of the greatest changes in software over the last five or six years have involved making it easier to find, include and improve the pictures. Adult/Child LEGO EV3 Robotics Workshop

March 17 – May 12, 2016 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Emerging Technology Center, Room 214 Age: 10 – 100, paired Instructor: Bill Kunnecke This unique workshop will pair a young person with a NOT as young person to experience LEGO EV3 Mindstorm Robotics. Participants will learn the magic behind making robotics appear to have human characteristics. Pairs of participants will start by building a basic mobile robot and use it as a tool to understand the Guided User Interface (GUI) software programming interface. Next, pairs will systematically incorporate four different robotic sensors on the mobile robot. Challenges for each sensor added will be provided.
