JCA in conjunction with Crossbar Coaching are proud to launch their new Football Camp programme at the amazing Condover Hall, Shropshire during May and August 2013. We have selected 2 key weeks to run a 5 night residential Football Camp, incorporating quality coaching for individual children coming by themselves or with a friend, or for Junior Clubs. Alongside the football programme the children will also take part in a wide range of activities including, Abseiling, Body Zorbing, Climbing, Kayaking and Raft Building. We are able to offer accompanying coaches/adults travelling with Junior Teams free places on a 1:8 ratio.

JCA Flagship Centre JCA are very proud to be the owners of Condover Hall and very excited to be able to create a fantastic centre just for our JCA clients. This Centre has so many activities inside and out that you would find it hard to fit it them all in to your stay with us.

Where is the Centre?

The Centre itself Built in 1586 Condover is a grade 1 Elizabethan Mansion. Set in 78 acres of fantastic countryside and gardens you will experience history, beautiful countryside and state of the art activities during your stay.

The surrounding area Condover is just outside Shrewsbury. The town is set amidst glorious countryside near to the Welsh Borders, it is one of England’s finest medieval market towns. The town centre is packed with timber-framed black & white buildings, steep narrow streets and alleyways. Charles Darwin was born and educated in Shrewsbury and all around you will find reminders of his association with the town. The River Severn forms a loop around the town centre offering gentle riverside walks.

Local Attractions Wroxeter Roman City boasts the excavated remains of the second largest Roman city in Britain. Impressive ruins include 2nd century baths and remains of a huge gateway. Hawkstone Park and follies is a woodland fantasy of caves and cliffs where paths twist and turn, rise and fall, and almost without fail reveal something unexpected around every corner. Haughmond Abbey also boasts extensive remains of 12th century Augustinian.

Centre Facilities Accommodation Condover accommodation is in 8 different accommodation blocks comprising of single story, double story and triple story. Dormitory accommodation from 2 – 10 beds per dorm. All bedding is provided but you are requested to bring your own towels. En-suite shower or bath and WC. 2 blocks have communal bathrooms. There is a cinema room for watching films. Adult rooms are accessed by key locks. Accommodation entrance doors also have keypad security. Condover Hall boasts a tuck shop and vending machines. We recommend that you bring change if you wish to use these facilities.

Please note - Due to our arrival and departure times being the same day your accommodation may not be ready for you on your arrival, if this is the case we will provide you with somewhere dry to store your luggage. Rooms are usually available after completion of the first activity session.

Codes of Conduct General conduct

Smoking

We encourage guests to be considerate and polite to others and to keep the JCA centre tidy. We require guests to be punctual as activities will start at the time tabled slot. Every guest at the centre has an equal right to enjoy themselves and we keep a close check on teasing, bullying or any other anti-social behaviour. When necessary we will contact the parent/guardian of a child with persistent behavioural problems and take immediate steps to remedy the situation.

Smoking is not permitted for children within JCA centres. We strongly discourage smoking.

Alcohol Consumption of alcohol by underage guests is banned at all JCA centres. This also applies to the consumption and purchase of alcohol off site. Guests breaking this rule will be excluded from the activity holiday and required to leave the centre.

Health and Safety Safety is our top priority at JCA. All of our centres comply with Health and Safety requirements and we hold copies of their Public Liability Insurances.

In addition to this, a member of staff at each centre holds the First Aid at Work Qualification.

Available We have an on-site shop. This is at your discretion; there will be JCA merchandise for sale on centre. Indoor heated pool. 60-seater cinema room. Security: Accommodation styles may vary but the emphasis on security does not. Our operating systems at each centre ensure that we meet the highest standards of security. Some of these measures include: Fire Drill Fire Safety Site Security Access to Public Visitors Out of bounds areas

This is held on your first day, you will be notified of time and assembly point on your arrival. All of our centres comply with UK standards and are audited to ensure all procedures and certificates are up to date. A member of JCA staff is on call 24 hours a day. In the evenings Senior Staff are on duty until 11pm. In addition to this Porters patrol the grounds throughout the night from 11pm to 7am. There is no access to the general public at this site. All visitors are required to sign the visitor book on arrival and wear a badge. The managers and staff accommodation is out of bounds. Other areas will be highlighted on arrival.

In addition to this Condover Hall has clearly defined perimeters with security barriers in operation.

Accreditations All of our centres and activities operate to the highest safety standards and we continually monitor, assess and develop our procedures to ensure that those standards are consistently maintained. We conform to several National Governing Bodies’ Codes of Practice and always strive to exceed their standards. JCA are Learning Outside the Classroom quality badge holders ensuring good practice, high quality teaching and learning experiences and risk management. We acknowledge the roles of a range of regulatory and advisory bodies and we strive to exceed the standards defined by BAPA, AALS, HSE, DFES and a range of sporting National Governing Bodies.

Sample Menu and Dietary Information Below is a sample menu. If you have special dietary needs it is vital that you fill in the forms you have been sent and return them to us by the due date so the information can then be passed on to the catering team at the centre. Wherever possible we will try to cater for your needs, if we are unable to meet your requirements, we will inform you as soon as possible.

Arrival Arrival is from 1.30pm with a welcome meeting from JCA and Crossbar Team. Football sessions will start on the Monday. Welcome talk to you and your children Our JCA team will welcome you and your child/children and explain the following.     

Roles and Responsibilities The general role and responsibilities of JCA staff: Our instructors are responsible for the safe delivery of activities and for your welfare. JCA instructors follow our activity standards and procedures to ensure that each activity is run safely. During activities we ensure guests are wearing the correct clothing and footwear to avoid injury.

Children travelling by themselves or not as part of a group accompanied by an adult: JCA mentors will be responsible for the welfare of all individual guests out of activity time throughout their stay, from getting them up in the morning, ensuring they get to activities, administering brought medication and pocket money, dealing with any homesickness or upset and ensuring the children get to bed on time.

First activity Your stay will start at approximately 3:30pm with the first activity.

Fire Drill There will be a fire drill on the first evening of your stay, the details of this will be confirmed at your initial meeting.

Out of hours contact A senior member of our team will be on duty during the night if you need them, you will be given information on how to contact them at your initial meeting.


Frequently Asked Questions What does JCA stand for?

What age groups do you cater for?

Activities are based on children from 9-16 years. With the parents consent younger children are able to take part in some activities subject to healthy and safety guidelines.

Is previous experience necessary for some of your more specialised activities?

No previous experience is necessary. All our staff are fully trained to instruct children from all levels of capability to ensure enjoyment for everyone.

What are the arrival/departure times? Arrival from 1.30pm, Departure 11am.

Are all of your staff CRB checked?

We are registered with the Criminal Records Bureau and also insist on two references for each employee. We require all candidates to submit an enhanced disclosure to the CRB and check these results to ensure staff members are suitable. All staff complete a formal induction, training and assessment period before commencing employment and are subject to continual assessment by Senior Staff throughout their period of employment to ensure they meet our high standards.

Will we need any particular clothing or equipment?

JCA will provide all the specialist equipment necessary to undertake activities. We ensure all of our equipment conforms to the British or European standards. Daily safety and equipment checks are made and recorded at all of our centres. Risk assessments have also been carried out for all activities at our Centres. A kit list is provided.

What type of food will be provided?

JCA aim to provide a healthy balanced and high-energy diet during the course of your stay. Vegetarian options are available and we ask that you inform us of any special dietary requirements at the time of booking. Special dietary requirements can be catered for but we must be notified at least two weeks prior to arrival. A sample menu is provided.

What is included in the price?

The price includes full board, insurance and all activities. Our Public Liability and Travel Insurance documents can be downloaded from our website.

What happens if it rains?

Most activities can be run in wet weather, however, if weather is extreme and activities cannot be run the Centre Manager will implement the centres wet weather plan.

Do JCA hold any accreditations?

Do you cater for specific needs?

Absolutely! We are dedicated to providing everyone with the opportunity to enjoy the JCA experience. Many special needs children and groups travel with us every year, as most of our activities can be adapted to suit the needs of the individual. We will be happy to discuss your specific requirements at the time of booking.

Does your insurance cover personal belongings?

We are not insured against these items and in our experience it is not advisable to bring expensive personal belongings on an activity trip. We strongly recommend that expensive items such as mobile phones, MP3 players, jewellery or expensive clothes are NOT brought with children on their holiday.

When do I have to pay?

For individuals or small groups of friends, full payment is required at the time of booking. For Junior Clubs booking for 8 or more children a deposit of £45 per child can be paid if outside of 10 weeks of travel. Within this time, full payment is required, but we are able to hold spaces on option in order to allow for payments to be collected from the children.

When will the football coaching take place?

Dependant on numbers we intend to run a morning session for children ages 9-13 years and an afternoon session for children aged 14-16 years. When not taking part in football coaching, children will be split into groups and take part in adventure activities.

Does the football coaching take place at Condover Hall?

No, the football coaching takes place within a few miles of Condover Hall with supervised coach transport provided to and from the venue.
