University of Nevada, Reno seeks a collaborative, visionary leader to serve as Dean, College of Science to lead an effort to collaborate acrosscampus and strengthen the identity of the college in generating research and learning that support the university's growing public and landgrant missions.This position serves as the chiefacademic officer for the College, and reports to the ExecutiveVice President and Provost.
The Dean will work to attract more high caliber students and faculty members; seek out and foster public and private funding opportunities for faculty, students and the college; deliver consistently excellent academic programming; and develop innovative research initiatives that bridge disciplines, foster collaboration with local industries, and serve the needs of Nevadans while elevating the University's reputation in science.
College of Science
The College of Science is the largest College within the University of Nevada Reno. It is comprised of the following departments; biology, chemistry, mathematics and statistics, physics, psychology, two public service units, multiple global research centers, fundraising/advancement, and three unique public museums; the Museum of Natural History, the Flesichmann Planetarium and Science Center, and the W.M. Keck Earth Science and Mineral Engineering Museum.
The College is also home of the Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering. The Mackay School is one of the world's leading educational institutions in the fields of natural resources, and earth sciences and engineering. The School includes the Departments of Geography, Geological Sciences & Engineering, and Mining & Metallurgical Engineering. Mackay also includes the Nevada Bureau of Mines & Geology, the Nevada Seismology Laboratory, the State Climate Office, and theW.M. Keck Earth Science and Mineral Engineering Museum.
The College has more than 3,000 undergraduate and 600 graduate students with approximately 11,000 university students annually taking courses offered by the College's departments.The budget for the College includes an average of $33 million in awards from grants and contracts and $36 million from state appropriation.
