A big hit at the Jewish Film Festival this year, Yossi sees Ohad Knoller give another extraordinary performance, returning to the groundbreaking role as a gay man that won him the Tribeca Film Festival’s Best Actor award in 2003 (Yossi & Jagger).

past

Ten years have passed and Yossi is living a lonely existence in Tel Aviv, seeking retreat in his work as a doctor. When an emotional meeting unfolds in his consulting room, stirring up long suppressed memories of his relationship with Jagger, Yossi decides to take off on a long overdue holiday. Driving through the desolate streets of southern Israel, stark images of city life eventually give way to rolling road trip beauty and when he chances on a group of young, lively soldiers, he finally wakes up from his ten year slumber. Contains scenes of a sexual nature. ‘Possibly Eytan Fox’s finest work’ Tribeca Review TimeOut London Age 18+ Time Venue

WOT? nO FISh!!

a nEW ShOW By danny BraVErMan directed by nick Philippou

In 1926, Ab Solomons brought his wage packet home for his wife Celie. As a token of his love, he doodled on the packet. From that day on, Ab drew Celie a cartoon every week, recording the ups and downs of their family’s life. Ab’s cartoons deal with life, death, catering, parenting, making ends meet, wartime and even more catering! They form a chronicle full of humour and sadness, drawing you into the extraordinary lives of ordinary people. Ab and Celie went on a journey along a road that went uphill both ways – but it was a journey they took together… Danny Braverman is a theatre maker with 30 years’ experience working across the UK. His solo show is a fascinating, funny and intimate sharing of Ab’s remarkable work – including the chance to see some of the art first hand – by a storyteller with an amazingly surprising connection to the story. This performance will be BSL interpreted on the Sunday. For ages 12+ “Could be as important as Pepys’ diary one day” - audience member For more information about the show please visit www.wotnofish.com Time Saturday 26th at 7.30pm Sunday 27th at 5.30pm Venue Rich Mix, 35-47 Bethnal Green Road, London E1 6LA Price £10 (concessions £7) To book Online at jcclondon.org.uk or call the JCC office on 020 7431 9866 Twitter hashtag – #WotNoFish

Can artwork about human suffering be beautiful? Who elected artists to be politicians? Is painting dead – and is film dancing on its grave? In this art tour, led by Sarah Lightman, we will look at artworks by Jewish Artists and of Jewish interest in the Tate Modern that all address ideas about politics, narrative and space.

We will begin with the multi-screen projection of South African artist William Kentridge, “I am not me, the horse is not mine” which is displayed for the first time in the UK. Then we will visit selected works in the Tate Modern collection that share Kentridge’s concerns with politics, space and narrative, including Leon Golub’s “Vietnam II”, Dia Al Azzawi “Sabra and Shatila” and Mark Rothko’s immersive Seagram Murals. We will finish in the Tate cafe for tea to continue our discussions. Sarah Lightman is an award-winning artist, writer and curator. She is co-curator of the acclaimed exhibition “Graphic Details: Confessional Comics by Jewish Women”. Sarah’s solo show, “The Book of Sarah” will open in May 2013. 'EXPOSURE'

at Jewish Book Week

SUNDAY 3RD MARCH 2013

Sunday 3rd March 2013 Join us at Jewish Book Week for a unique opportunity to hear prize-winning IsraeliArab novelist, screenwriter and journalist Sayed Kashua. Kashua’s work has been described as both humorous and tragic, laden with a deep satirical twist. He is the screenwriter of the hugely successful TV series Arab Labor, now in its third series, as well as the author of 2012’s Exposure, Dancing Arabs and Let It Be Morning.

‘EXPOSurE’

In Exposure, our topic for the evening, he traces two parallel Palestinian characters; the first is a social worker turned photographer who adopts the identity of a comatose Jewish man he is caring for. The second is a lawyer whose social-climbing aspirations lead him into an entirely Jewish world. Kashua’s wry wisdom offers an honest and often surprising glimpse of Israeli and Arab society, from a peerless perspective. In discussion with founder of the Arab Israeli Book Review and Book Club, Ariel Kahn.

Monday 18th March 2013 To celebrate the 80th birthday of this Marx Brothers classic, we are teaming up with the London Comedy Film Festival for an exclusive screening.
