THE GORDON CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS at the J Rosenbloom Owings Mills Jewish Community Center 3506 Gwynnbrook Avenue | Owings Mills, MD 21117

Our fresh, contemporary-looking logo is part of a new branding campaign designed and developed by the Jewish Community Centers of North America (JCCA), the umbrella organization of JCCs. While some members and guests have referred to our JCC as the “J” for many years, this “new name” is intended to communicate the real essence of our brand which has been described as “welcoming, comfortable, family-friendly, and a safe place to get and stay healthy.” Of course, the “J” also supports our effort to remain welcoming to all, while infusing our programs and facilities with Jewish values and culture, including a love and dedication to Israel and Israeli culture. The new brand identity strives to promote what is special about our JCC— the collective energy and warmth of our 16,000+ members, hundreds of guests, and our dedicated staff. Our goals for the new brand are to project a cohesive identity that unifies us across numerous departments and programs, showcases our high professional standards, and establishes the image of a flexible and relevant institution that serves a diversity of people and supports many productive and collaborative partnerships. In addition to the new brand identity, we are also excited about several other initiatives this year, such as the introduction of a new Children’s Theater program in January, a new group training studio, and upgrades to the locker rooms at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC. At the Weinberg Park Heights JCC we will be adding an additional Group Exercise Studio, a huge new Parenting Center play room, and a new multi-purpose room for youth programming. We believe these changes support our commitment to you by adding value to your membership and creating a positive atmosphere in which anything can happen! So come often and take in the new look and exciting changes. Remember, we value your feedback on ways we can improve our service and facilities. Keep using the JCC Kvetch (complain) and Kvell (praise) member communication boxes in the front lobbies of both buildings to share your constructive thoughts with us. If you ever have anything to share with me directly, please email me at bhermann@jcc.org. L'Shana Tova

Fitness Information

Notice anything new? You’re not imagining it. Our JCC, and JCC’s across the continent, are in the midst of a rebranding campaign that reflects who we are today.

We Have the Place, Now We’ve Got the Space "This fall, fitness enthusiasts exercising at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC will have more space for their workouts," says vice president Ron Siegel. The former babysitting room (now located in the Parenting Center) will become an expanded group exercise studio where classes such as SHOCKWAVE, Born To Move, and Barre will be held. When classes are not in session, the space will be available for one-on-one and small group personal training.

Today’s J offers… • Unparalleled avenues to pursue wellness in mind, body and spirit. • Jewish values that inform everything we do.

Members who workout at the Weinberg Park Heights JCC, will also see some welcome changes. “We have totally outgrown our [fitness] space in Park Heights,” explains Amy Schwartz, Director of Fitness and Wellness. Space was so scarce at the Park Heights JCC, that some of the largest classes had to be held in the auditorium. In response to members’ exercise needs, plans are underway to convert

• A culture of respect for the individual, regardless of their religious affiliation. • A positive atmosphere where anything can happen.

There’s something about this place

We've got the warmest welcome. It starts with the warm welcome of our signature chocolate chip cookie. And that's just the beginning of all the personal touches we make before you arrive, from our Sweet Dreams™ bedding and healthy food choices to the can-do attitude of every member of our staff. DoubleTree by Hilton. Where the little things mean everything.™

Looking to start a new fitness routine and don’t know where to begin? Want to change up your workout with new challenges and better results? Benefits of Personal Training:

Fitness The JCC maintains state-of-the-art equipment and resources to keep our bodies healthy and in shape, so this fall we’re going to get into high gear and do some serious cardio, core, and muscle conditioning. We’re going to burn body fat, build bone strength, and improve your balance and flexibility, through Boot Camp, through Yoga, through Tai Chi. We’re going to increase our stamina, speed, coordination, endurance. Our age, gender, fitness goals don't matter. The JCC has specialized fitness courses exclusively designed for all of us.

Seniors, we will work on balance, flexibility, coordination, bone strength, and conditioning. Recent moms, we will get that core back in shape. Teens, we will continue to work with you as you grow into your adult frames. Whether you need specialized work on a bad knee or are you ready to box, punch and pump – the personal trainers at the JCC are ready to help you. For each of these specialized group training courses, you will pay $10-15 per hour per one hour session which run 4-6 weeks. Owings Mills Fitness | Youth & Teens Born To Move™

SHOCKWAVE It won’t come as a shock to our members that the JCC is on the cutting edge of health and wellness trends. Nevertheless, you may be even more impressed when you try our new SHOCKWAVE program. The 30 or 45 minute circuit-style classes, premiering this fall, will give you the work-out of a lifetime, says the J’s Fitness and Wellness Director, Amy Schwartz. “SHOCKWAVE’s ‘secret sauce’ is the calorie-burning high intensity interval training (H.I.I.T.) workout provided by its rowing machines,” says Schwartz. A team-based approach to interval training, SHOCKWAVE builds comradery between members at the same time as it helps them to build strength, endurance and muscle definition. ”SHOCKWAVE has been dubbed the most efficient total body workout in the world,” says Schwartz. Offered for a small fee, members will have the opportunity to purchase a transferable class card making the workout even more affordable. Both members and guests will have a chance to try SHOCKWAVE fee-free for the first month it is offered at the J.

Physical fitness isn’t just for grown-ups at the JCC. This fall, Schwartz will introduce a new program for young members ages 6-16, called Born To Move™. Developed by Les Mills, creator of the popular adult exercise programs, BODYFLOW™ and BODYPUMP™, Born To Move™ connects children to their innate but sometimes dormant desire for physical activity. The program comprises a series of movement activities that are fun, age-appropriate, easy to follow and scientifically proven to encourage a life-long love of movement. “Each class is fluid and changeable depending on the makeup of the group,” says Schwartz. “For instance, if there are more boys or only boys we might not do a dance track” she explains. “At the beginning of class, each child is greeted by the group leader. Next there is a ‘welcome circle’ where children are encouraged to talk about their days. Class rules are reviewed at the end of every welcome circle so kids know exactly what is expected,” Schwartz explains. “For the youngest group, classes have a game-component along with playful movements and songs. Movement demonstrations are clear and simple,” says Schwartz. “For kids from 8-12, classes are dynamic and engaging with movements from martial arts, sports and yoga. And for the teen group, there is an emphasis on inclusion, and movement is music-driven with influences from dance, hip hop, martial arts, sports and yoga.” Born To Move™ classes will be offered at both JCC locations, and a class for girls only, will be held at the Weinberg Park Heights JCC. Best of all, Born To Move™ classes are included as part of your membership.

Tennis | Owings Mills

Tennis This fall the JCC is very excited and very proud to offer numerous tennis conditioning and match play programs for children, teens, and adults. At the J, we call our youngest players the Munchkins and the Pee Wee’s and, as you might imagine, they are a lot of fun to teach. We get them on a court with a racquet, provide instructions on how to swing and hit the ball for some back and forth, and observe as they pick up some very basic skills. After a bit of instruction, our kids actually do pick it up, you would be surprised. Our pre-teens, teens, and adults enter classes at all levels – beginner through advanced. They take conditioning courses to work on specific strokes, speed and agility drills, and strategy; or match play clinics to train for competitive play. From our intermediate and advanced players, we look for steady, hard ground strokes, strong serves, and strategic baseline and net play. From beginner on up, we give all of our players a workout as we challenge them to rise to the next level. 12

Owings Mills Winter classes will continue starting January 4.

CSA Martial Arts For over twenty-four years, the JCC has offered worldclass Martial Arts training programs through its partner Martial Arts and Wellness School, Comprehensive Survival Arts (CSA). Karate, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, T'ai Chi, Kickboxing, Self Defense, MMA, and more. From Little Tigers (ages 3-5) to adults – through classes, camps, and tournaments – certified Black Belt CSA instructors teach individuals how to properly stand, block, kick, and strike – critical to the practice of self-defense. Parents and their children may enroll together in Family Karate courses featuring full belt advancement opportunities. As wellness experts will attest, Karate is amazing for children. It’s not just for kicks – it instills self-confidence and teaches anti-bullying tactics, though it’s also a great workout and incredible fun!

Enjoy a little Summer in the Winter! December 29-31 and January 2 | Ages 4-12 — CIT 13-15 Attend individual days or all and learn Karate, play games, get great exercise, have FUN, and much more! Winter Break with a New Years Party on December 31!

Owings Mills Aquatics | Youth Older JCC children, then, get into the water and work towards swimming proficiency at their own pace. As early as four years of age, many children are ready to begin acquiring American Red Cross (ARC) certifications through Introduction to Water Skills and Aquatics Skills course work. Soon-after, young swimmers may advance to stroke instruction and refinement course work.

Aquatics Three facts you should know about the JCC’s superior swimming programs: • First, the JCC’s Swim School is one of the largest “Swim School” programs in the U.S., featuring all levels of aquatics certification classes as well as an extensive swim lesson program – which includes ongoing lessons in our preschools and camps. • Second, the JCC is the largest training center for aquatics management & water safety in Maryland, boasting a highly-trained and certified full-time Aquatics Safety & Management staff. All instructors (coaches, swim instructors, water fitness instructors) are fully certified in their specialty areas. • Third, our swim team is AMAZING and features nationally top-ranked swimmers competing in a number of age groups. At both the Park Heights and Owings Mills JCC’s, we like to get our kids in the water as early as six months of age, in our Parent/Infant swim classes. That may sound early but this gives the little ones their first feel of the water, familiarizes them with the pool environment, and gets them used to a some playful splish and splash.

Our goal is to make sure everyone is a safe, skilled, proficient swimmer! Both JCC’s offer swim lessons for teens and adults as well. In multiple courses, teens and adults may learn the basics, improve their skills, and master their strokes. Our more mature members might also consider one of our excellent water fitness courses. Water aerobics offers adults in-the-water-resistance training for toning, strengthening, and cardiovascular benefits. The J offers this course free to members ages 60+. A similar program offered at the JCC, the Arthritis Foundation Aquatics Program, is geared towards providing adults water exercise that doesn’t place undue strain on arthritic muscles and joints. Trained instructors work with program participants on gaining strength and flexibility in a warm water environment. At the J, we are all about safety. We offer classes in CPR, First Aid, Babysitting, and Advanced Child Care for participants as young as 11 years of age. In addition to coed programs, our Park Heights Aquatic department offers separate learn-to-swim classes, boys and girls swim teams, and single gender swim periods.

Swimming Lesson Policy Sometimes the pool becomes unavailable for swimming lessons due to circumstances beyond our control. If the pool is unavailable for swimming lessons due to inclement weather or health & safety related issues; our instructors will conduct a land-based session including either water safety and/or land-based stroke drills at the instructor’s discretion. Make-up lessons will not be scheduled if a water session needs to be missed for one of these reasons. The JCC does not provide refunds for missed water sessions. 18

For many of us, a trip to Israel is a transformational experience. That was the case for some JCC staff members who recently visited the Jewish homeland. Since they returned to Baltimore, these talented Jewish communal professionals have been working hard to instill a love and appreciation for Jewish traditions and Israeli culture in our youngest members. Take Emily Peisach for example. A [Darrell D.] Friedman Fellow, Peisach, Program Director for the Roslyn & Len Stoler Early Childhood Education Center at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC, and Director of Noah’s Ark camp in Owings Mills, used her $5,000 award from DFI, to defray the costs of attending the Jewish Community Center Association’s Early Childhood Leadership Seminar in Israel. The youngest person on the trip, Peisach says she loved being able to learn from the great network of Jewish professionals from all over the U.S. and Canada. While in Israel, Peisach says she realized the importance of the Jewish state and why young children should know about it. “We need to teach our youngest kids about Israel so they grow up with it. I want to bring greater awareness of Israel [to the children], and teach them about [Israeli] values and customs. That is how we form respect for other “We need to teach cultures.”

Peisach says she has been about Israel so they working to infuse the ECE and Noah’s Ark camp with grow up with it.” more Israeli and Jewish —Emily Peisach content. “We say prayers before and after we eat, celebrate Shabbat – including the Havdallah ceremony and sing Hebrew songs. This year we introduced Israel Day. We decorated the classroom with Israeli-inspired art-work, ate Israeli foods and did Israeli dancing. We’re also having the oldest kids make cards for Israeli children in Ashkelon, our sister city.” Bradley Kerxton, also a Friedman Fellow, is director of Top Notch Teens (TNT) as well as middle school and Jr. Maccabi Program Director. Kerxton visited Israel on a Baltimore-Ashkelon Partnership Mission this year.

While in Israel, Kerxton visited Israeli schools to learn how they engage teens in fundraising and community service projects. He is using what he learned from Israeli colleagues with his JCC teen council “Now, they are researching and raising money for charities,” says Kerxton. The teens have already begun performing community service projects at neighboring Weinberg Village. “My dream is to

Amanda Max’s multiple roles all year long.” at the J include her position —Amanda Max as Assistant Director at Camp Milldale and Director of the JCC’s Kids Center, After School and School’s Out programs. A graduate student at the Baltimore Hebrew Institute at Towson University, Max had the opportunity to take a “mini-mester” through the program that focused on the Baltimore-Ashkelon partnership and the Israeli social services system. “The big take-away for me was about how important it is to educate our kids about Ashkelon and Israel,” said Max. “One way we brought Israel into camp [this past summer] was by having three shlichim [emissaries from Israel] working with us. Instead of just offering an Israel elective this year, we had shlichim go into every elective and present an Israeli activity. So in cooking, they taught the kids to make Israeli salad and in art, they learned about an Israeli artist. My dream is to have shlichim all year long.” JCC President Barak Hermann agrees that Israel experiences are among the “best ways to inject Israel into the JCC’s programs. When the staff experiences the culture there, they are better able to bring that enthusiasm back to the kids,” he says. Hermann intends to create a task force to explore additional ways to incorporate Judaism and connection to Israel in all aspects of the JCC’s functioning. “We want to welcome everyone but still stay true to our mission. After all, the major reason we are in business is to build Jewish community.” 23

Parent and Infant/Toddler Class

Introducing J Play in Owings Mills

Introducing J Town and home of PJ Library in Park Heights

Our littlest members have a new place to play when they visit the babysitting room at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC. This new space, which we are calling “J Play”, is now conveniently housed in our Parenting Center Playroom.

Youngsters at the Weinberg Park Heights JCC will also have a brand new space come this fall, when the art gallery is converted into a drop-in parenting center we are calling J Town. The goals here are to make the center easily accessible for moms and dads, to provide more play space, and to encourage parents to make connections with one another. We are excited to welcome PJ Library as our partner in this venture.

Why the Change? “We’re looking to provide a better program for families with young children,” says vice president, Ron Siegel. “The move brings the moms, dads and little ones to the Parent, Infant, Toddler area where we can provide additional opportunities for them,” explains Siegel. At the same time, the move has freed up the babysitting room, making way for the expansion of the J’s group exercise and personal training programs. “It’s a perfect marriage,” says Parent/Infant/Toddler Coordinator, Linda Lapidus. “We are really excited to have the babies on this side of the building!”

Parenting Center Programs Every expectant parents’ experience before and after childbirth is different. For some, when you finally have that little bundle in your arms, you are still asking, “Are we ready for this?” The truth is “You are and you are going to do fine!” Through both the tiring times and the more joyous times, the JCC is here for you, for guidance and support during those first few years of your newborn’s life, and afterwards as well. In several classes designed specifically for the parents of infants and toddlers, the J’s professional team of certified instructors and experienced teachers work up close with moms and dads to stimulate and enhance children’s gross and fine motor skills. At the J, we love working with children! We move, we explore, we sing, we dance, we blow bubbles, we touch, and we practice our crawling until before you know it, we are big walkers! And as an added bonus our parents have a chance to connect and form new friendships within the community.

*This program is held the first Friday of each month; 9/5, 10/3, 11/7, 12/5, 1/2.

Prenatal Yoga Pregnancy is a very special time of a woman’s life and expectant mothers are encouraged to join this 6 week long prenatal yoga class. This class is designed specifically to support the pregnant woman. Join as early into pregnancy as you would like for maximum benefit. Thursday

Early Childhood Education The JCC is proud to offer the community two highly regarded early childhood education experiences. The Mind in Motion at the Meyerhoff ECE in Park Heights The Meyerhoff Early Childhood Education (ECE) Center at the Weinberg Park Heights JCC focuses on building sacred relationships among children, staff, and parents in an environment conducive to curiosity, intellectual engagement, wonder and creativity. There is a very special focus here on the children’s ideas and their potential to thrive and ultimately shape the world as our future leaders. Children in the Meyerhoff ECE are seen as agents of their own learning, at work on critical thinking skills.

The Body at Play and the Mind at Work at the Stoler ECE in Owings Mills The Stoler Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC provides a nurturing learning environment to stimulate each child’s curiosity, sense of wonder, and motivation to learn about the world around them, and where children engage in creative play, develop their readiness skills through art, music, cooking, physical education, swim, and Hebrew. The Stoler ECE’s focus is to develop in each child independence, confidence, and a feeling of self-worth as an individual and as a member of a group. The Stoler ECE is also wellrecognized for its implementation of the its Healthy Choices Program, which integrates daily exercise with nutrition awareness activities.

Camp Milldale “Camp Milldale is a Jewish Camp that welcomes all families. We are proud of our Jewish identity and we embrace it in a dynamic way” says Director Amy Bram who has 20 years of experience in youth development. "We intentionally immerse campers in Jewish and Israeli culture through Israel Day, Shabbat and Havdallah services, Hebrew language, music, and regular interactions with our shlichim (Israeli emissaries)."

Everyone’s talking about our new Habimah Performing Arts Camp, redesigned Maccabi Sports Camp, the expanded Top Notch Teen Program and the great new leadership of Amy Bram at our flagship program, Camp Milldale. Habimah Melissa Berman, the J’s Assistant Director of Arts and culture reports that Habimah’s inaugural season was nothing short of “incredible” with 60 aspiring performers in grades 1-6 at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC. Campers learned from professional actors, dancers and musicians from partnering organizations like Center Stage and Children’s Chorus of Maryland. During 2-week sessions, campers developed skills in improv, acting, stage combat, voice, hip-hop dance and global dance culminating with a final showcase at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts. Berman urges parents to register early for this outstanding program, since “we sold out this year”! Maccabi Sports This summer, Maccabi Sports Campers utilized the J’s state-of-the-art athletic facilities which according

to Director Roman Gertsovich, has set the stage for more professional coaching and the opportunity to run quality programs rain or shine. Maccabi Campers were excited to meet and be coached by Tory Smith of the Ravens, Jesse Schwartzman of the Denver Outlaws (major league lacrosse), David Lough of the Baltimore Orioles, Will Smith, formerly of the Kansas City Royals and Charles “Choo” Smith of the Harlem Globetrotters. Gertsovich expects the camp to attract additional professional athletes in 2015 for an even greater opportunity to increase skills. TNT The J’s Top Notch Teens (TNT) Director Brad Kerxton says the popular program is even better because there are new trips, more electives, and an overnight. The program has been so successful that TNT placements are now available in Noah’s Ark, Babysitting, Habimah, Aquatics and Tennis Camps. Next year, there will be more evening and after-camp activities and additional placements to accommodate the many teens who want to participate in TNT. “Make sure you register in January,” Kerxton warns. “It’s so competitive that we have a lottery and we often have a waiting list for late-comers.”

Bram is confident that “Campers work with the quality of Milldale’s outstanding role models programs, staff and who help them develop leadership training programs have reached confidence and values.” new heights. “Beyond —Amy Bram traditional camp fun, we offer robust athletics, healthy cooking and extraordinary opportunities for campers to work with outstanding role models who help them develop confidence and values.” Other JCC Camps The J also hosted a variety of camps at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC which included the respected Noah’s Ark preschool camp and the new Noah’s Ark Next program which featured weekly trips to Camp Milldale. LEGO campers enjoyed creativity with Play-Well Technologies while our Aquatics Adventure and Speedo™ Boot Camp swimmers enhanced their competitive swimming skills and our tennis campers had fun building speed and agility at the net while also learning teamwork. CSA’s Karate Campers increased endurance, awareness and coordination, gaining new levels of martial arts skills while also enjoying classic day camp activities. At the Weinberg Park Heights JCC, over 100 boys in grades K-5, helped us launch our brand new Camp Koolanu. In addition to a daily prayer component, each week included swim lessons, sports, day trips, arts, crafts and more! Register for camp now, save money, and guarantee the session of your choice!

Mix and match any of our camps to make the perfect summer for your child.

Take advantage of our Early-Bird Savings. Register between September 16 and November 6, and receive $200 off 5+ weeks of camp or $100 off 2-4 weeks of camp. Mix and match any of our camps to make the perfect summer for your child and when you register now, your camper will be guaranteed spots in the JCC programs and sessions of your choice.

30

Why summer camp for your child? Because camp is the most powerful positive developmental experience that a child can have. According to the American Camp Association (ACA), 96% of campers surveyed reported that camp helped them make new friends and 92%

said that camp improved their self-esteem. 70% of camp parents indicated that their children gained self-confidence at camp. Camp gives kids the opportunity to “unplug” from technology, “de-stress,” from the pressures of school, develop social skills and spend time outdoors in physical activities. According to the Foundation for Jewish Camping, children who attend Jewish summer camps not only experience the benefits identified by ACA, they are also “more likely to become adults who value their Jewish heritage, support Jewish causes, and take on leadership roles in their communities.” So, what are you waiting for? Register your child now for a great summer in 2015. Visit jcc.org/camps Stacy Deems | 410.559.3513 | sdeems@jcc.org

Special Needs Class

Special Needs Every Sunday during the school year is “Sunday Funday” at the JCC, a wonderful afternoon of recreational and social activity for children with special needs. This program provides an outlet for developing social skills and friendships, enhancing coordination and self-esteem, and creating genuine feelings of acceptance. Another Sunday program, “City Hoppers,” invites young adults with moderate special needs to head into the city and community for ballgames, mini-golf, bowling, museums, and delicious meals out. Children and young adults also enjoy Sunday’s “Astounding Art” program, welcoming many an aspiring artist to create ceramics and papiér maché. The JCC’s Department for people with special needs is proud to present these and so many other inclusive programs for children, teens, and adults with learning, developmental, social, and emotional needs – throughout the week. We also have a terrific Chaverim Group (adults ages 18+ with special needs) that creates its own schedule of recreational and leisure time activities. From our Kids Center, in which each child is mainstreamed into our special needs learning environment with the

living to seniors and people with disabilities. The nationally-recognized Baltimore Jewish Abilities Alliance offers resources and parent networking for individuals with disabilities and their families. Many in our community have been touched – here are few more stories: Vadim Kashtelyan

The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore If we work out at the ‘J’ or enroll our kids in many Jewish summer camps, have a family member living in a Weinberg senior living facility or a child enrolled in a Jewish day school, we are touched by the work of The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore. If we know a friend that needs financial assistance because he lost a job or a woman who reached out to CHANA because of domestic abuse, we see how The Associated helps those who may be vulnerable. Every day there are stories – stories like that of Betsy Narrow, who joined the JCC when she moved to Baltimore. She enrolled in arts classes, participated in cultural arts programs, even acted in a few JCC plays. Thanks in part to the JCC, she made connections in her new home. As The Associated kicks-off its annual campaign this year, the JCC is just one venue supported by the generosity of Baltimoreans, and Betsy is just one of our community members touched by The Associated’s reach. Pioneering programs like CHAI’s Northwest Neighbors Connecting enable seniors to live in their own homes; housing such as Weinberg provide quality, affordable

Through the work of The Associated and its agencies, Vadim Kashtelyan became one of the first in his family to fully embrace his Jewish identity – and then share it with other young adults. When Vadim arrived with his family in Baltimore from St. Petersburg as a toddler, his family knew little about their religion and Jewish heritage. Through the support of The Associated, Jewish Big Brother Big Sister (a program of Jewish Community Services) assigned his family a Big Brother who took them to synagogue and opened their eyes to Jewish life. Later Vadim participated in The “My parents had a vision Associated’s Diller Teen that I would grow up Fellows program and went to St. Petersburg knowing my Jewish with The Associated’s identity. That is why Baltimore-Odessa they chose America.” Partnership Leadership —Vadim Kashtelyan Mission.

Today, Vadim is giving back twofold – living in Moishe House in downtown Baltimore and providing meaningful Jewish experiences to young adults in their 20s. “My parents had a vision that I would grow up knowing my Jewish identity. That is why they chose America.” Paula and Harold Katz In just a little over two years, Paula and Harold Katz saw their expenses soar. Having paid for three weddings, as well as day school tuition, they were financially tapped out when their heating system went up. Fortunately, they were able to get a new interest-free energy savings loan offered by CHAI: Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc., which helped pay for the new system. In addition, it made their older home more energy-efficient, thus saving money in the long run. These interest-free energy savings loans are now available to residents in Pikesville, Owings Mills and Reisterstown, as well as CHAI’s traditional neighborhoods.
