Johnson (9-1) 100 vs Labette (1-10) 61 December 1, 2010 Johnson County pounds Labette OVERLAND PARK, KS – The Johnson County Community College men’s basketball team returned home and opened conference play with a resounding 100-61 victory over Labette. The Cavaliers improved their record to 9-1 and 1-0 in Jayhawk conference play. Labette drops to 1-10 overall and 0-1 in the league The Cavaliers built an 11 point cushion in the first half 38-27.The cavaliers exploded for 62 second half points as they placed 6 players in double figures. Johnson County took control by opening the second half with a 24-13 run in the first five minutes and never looked back. Sophomore Guard Ryan Magdziarz scored 15 points, dished out 8 assists and had 4 steals. Sophomore Ryan Arel chipped in with 26 points. He hit 9-of-18 shots, including 7-of-14 from 3-point range. He also had five rebounds. 6-4 Freshman Forward Justin Leathers posted 17 points and 8 rebounds, to go along with 4 assists and 3 blocked shots. Another key effort was turned in by 6-5 Freshman Courtney Jones with 12 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. JCCC had its best offensive performance of the year by shooting 49 %( 38/77) from the floor and also recorded 29 assists. The Cav’s also knocked down 13 three point baskets.” We really did an excellent job of sharing the ball and finding the open man!” The Johnson County defense wasn’t too bad either. JCCC held Labette to 34% from the floor, out rebounded the Cardinals 47 to 38 and forced 22 turnovers. “I thought our rebounding and defense really fueled our offense tonight”.
