SUCCESS STORY____________________
Reformer Pilates Leads to Friendship & Fitness While reasons vary from person to person as to why it’s important to “get back in shape,” J trainers have time and again been credited for offering critical motivation to drive people to achieve a healthier level of life. This rings true for Klye Smith who has allowed a wonderful experience to blossom into years of Reformer Pilates and a healthier life.
She has a passion for the Reformer and loves watching students enhance their abilities. She has also watched this particular group form bonds beyond just the Reformer. “Kyle participates in a Small Group Reformer class with two other women. They have been together for over four years.” Jacob continues, “For an hour while they are gaining strength and flexibility within their bodies, they are also sharing experiences, stories, picking each other up on bad days, and celebrating good days, together. This group has become family. We celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, kids, and life both in and outside of the J.” In referring to the group structure for the Reformer program, Jacob says it’s important that from an exercise perspective to keep things fresh, but challenging, and the group dynamic is great for the participants to motivate each other. Pilates is a total body workout, so each person gets an exercise they enjoy and some that they would rather skip. “We have a positive and fun time.”
“Jason changed up our sessions each week and provided new challenges for each of us. I also found my son was very responsive to him. He could joke around with him but still get a thorough workout. Not everyone has the knack for working with teen boys and Jason made it look easy,” Smith says.
Kyle Smith (centered) with her J trainers, Stacey Jacob (left) and Jason Davis.
Like many, Smith relates that as she got a little older she decided she wanted to slim down. She had already had an interest in Pilates and sought out the opportunites the J could provide on a Reformer. Paired with her desire to have a person to motivate her for her workouts, becoming a regular in the J’s Reformer Pilates program was a natural fit. Smith was paired with Stacey Jacob for her one-on-one introductory sessions and more than four years later they are still going strong. Jacob recalls, “She wanted to move and had knee surgeries starting at a young age. She needed strengthening and the ability to modify to her needs.” Smith eased right into the Thursday Reformer class at the Staenberg Family Complex, and along with two other women, the class has created bonds of friendship, while giving each one a great workout. “[The initial session] exceeded my expectations. I found [it] a wonderful experience and that is what made me sign up for Pilates and my J membership. Stacey was able to answer all of my questions and go over how the exercises worked your muscle groups. She also made the session fun and interesting,” Smith recalls. Jacob, who is the J’s Group Fitness and Reformer Pilates Manager at the Marilyn Fox Building, teaches Reformer group classes at both J locations.
Although Smith has temporarily put her J membership on hiatus, she has not given up her Thursday Reformer class. She’s looking forward to the time when she becomes

a full-time member again. “I have accomplished what I needed to but I also have made wonderful friends at the J which has further enhanced my experience.” Smith happily and simply says, “I enjoy my class and the people. That is what keeps me coming back.” ____________________________________________________ If you are interested in learning more about Reformer Pilates or Personal Training at either J location, please call the SFC Fitness Center at 314.442.4159 or the Fox Fitness Center at 314.442.3439.
