Participation is based upon an appropriate match between the individual and a particular program. Where feasible and suitable, the J provides necessary supports, including individual programming. Financial Assistance Limited, need-based financial assistance in the form of program and membership scholarship is available. Volunteer Opportunities The J is always looking for volunteers ages 16 and over to help enhance our services and programs. Volunteers are needed for one-time special events, ongoing classroom assistance, assembling mailings and more. Opportunities are available at both J locations. Volunteer positions are designed to assist J staff by matching the skills and schedules of the volunteer. Whether entering the water for the first time or continuing to develop skills, Swim Academy can improve and educate you and your child on the finer points of swimming. Lessons are designed so swimmers progress from level to level as they accomplish skills. Swim Academy has been revised to comply with the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program and is divided into three sections. 1) Aqua Babies (6 mos to 3 yrs) 30-minute class Aqua Babies introduces basic skills and water safety to parents and children. Skills learned include teaching infants to put their face in the water, blowing bubbles and getting comfortable in the pool. Banot Buddies Kickoff_____________________ 2nd-4th grade girls Banot Buddies pairs younger girls in grades 2-4 with teenage girls to take a closer look at girls’ topics through a Jewish lens, and focuses on a particular area that is relevant to modern “girlhood.” Older girls serve as mentors encourage those who are younger to find healthy ways of navigating through girlhood. Participants must be able to participate with a 1:4 staff to participant ratio and not display aggressive behaviors. There is an intake process, so please contact us early. The Pilates Reformer is specialized equipment used to perform the Pilates Method. This unique set of exercises lengthens and tones muscles while strengthening the body’s core. 9th Annual Kids’ Triathlon
5-14 yrs Build up to an end-of-the-summer challenge with the 9th Annual Kids’ Triathlon. This unique and very popular event will take you all over the J’s I.E. The J Associates is a women’s auxiliary in support of the J. Their mission includes raising funds which are then allocated annually for various J departments which are used for scholarships and programming, regardless of age, race, or religion. Touching all ages, from infants to the elderly, the J Associates have contributed to numerous programs such as Home Delivered Meals and Theatre Unlimited for adults with special needs; scholarships allowing children to attend camps and the early childhood program. There are more than 500 members who have helped in allocating over a million dollars over the past 29 years.

These activities, including exciting events such as Toast of the Town, Dancing in the Loop, and Brunch, Boutique & Bunches of Games, help others while building camaraderie and creating friendships. Sharsheret Supports, a Program of Nishmah________________________Adult women
Nishmah inspires, engages and supports girls and women through educational, spiritual and social programming. Through a collaborative model, Nishmah strengthens the St. Louis Jewish community.
Sharsheret Supports is a collaborative project of Nishmah and the national Sharsheret organization. Sharsheret, Hebrew for “chain,” is a national not-forprofit organization supporting young women and their families, of all Jewish backgrounds, facing breast, ovarian, and other related cancers. Sharsheret combines the spirit of Nishmah and the mission of Sharsheret to offer support in the St. Louis Jewish community to survivors and women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer or at increased genetic risk, by fostering culturally relevant individualized connections with networks of peers, health professionals and related resources. A little about Shira • Originally from Boston, Shira moved to St. Louis last summer from Washington DC. • Shira spent the past 10 years in fine art galleries curating exhibitions, managing sales, creating educational programs and directing marketing efforts. • Shira attended Barnard College (NY) to study Art History and Visual Arts and celebrates her 10 year college reunion this May! • Shira credits her Jewish education to Cohen Hillel Academy in Marblehead, MA, and Gann Academy in Waltham, MA. • Shira and her husband, Jeff, settled in University City and are frequent diners at Winslow’s Home.
Raku Candlesticks Making___
Adult St. Louis artist James Ibur leads this three-week ceramics workshop creating Shabbat candlesticks in the traditional Japanese style of Raku ware. Participants will learn the basics of hand-forming and glazing pottery in the first two studio classes and will complete their work in the third session with a magical Raku firing ceremony under the stars. The workshop will meet on three consecutive Tuesday evenings with time built in for breaks to enjoy provided refreshments. An Evening of Acting Up______________________________
Blintzes Blitz!_________________________________________ Adult A blintz by any other name does taste as sweet! The blintz, or Jewish stuffed pancake, is known by different names in countless other cultures. Chef and baker Stephanie Pilon will lead this cooking demonstration exploring traditional and modernized versions of the Eastern European blintz, French crepe, Hungarian dopos torte, Russian blini and more. She will discuss the significance of eating dairy foods, such as blintzes, on Shavuot while you sip wine and feast on the sweet and savory treats. Marsha Coplon, Director of Education at The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, leads participants in exhilarating theater games for acting buffs and novices alike. Are you an auditory communicator like Abraham, a visual communicator like Joseph, or a kinesthetic communicator like Moses? Similar to these and other great leaders in Jewish history, we have a tendency to favor one type of communication. Adult This invigorating hand-drum workshop led by musician, storyteller and entrepreneur, Robert Fishbone, will use simple percussions to explore listening in new ways. When we listen, we set aside our egos, surrender to the process, and allow ourselves to connect both internally and externally on a deeper level. Participants will witness the drumming circle’s unique ability to enhance one’s spiritual connectedness while building a sense of community. Robert will touch upon the profusion of musical references in Jewish texts and folklore, and the significance of music at Jewish holidays and life-cycle events. Online Registration How to Register for a Program Online • Go to jccstl.org and select My J Account in the upper right corner OR Click Register Online from any program page on the website • **You will be asked to login. If you have a password and ID, enter it in the User Log In area now. Or… • If you are a J member and new to the Online Services (with no username or password), please contact our Membership Services staff at 314-442-3173. Members must have an email address on file in order to access the Online Services. • If you have utilized the Online Service area before (J member or non-member program participant) and have forgotten your username and/or password, click on Forgot Username/Password? to receive new ones through email.
• If you are not a J member and have never participated in a program, click Create New Non-Member Account?
• Click the Sign up as Non-Member Participant button
• Click “Select” on the Membership Type (there’s only one option)
• Complete the form on the subsequent page and either choose to add a sub-member (spouse or child) or click the Next button
