Please contact a member services representative at 314-442-3124 for more information on how to visit our facility. Individuals with Special Needs The J welcomes and invites all persons, including those with special needs, to participate in its camps and other programs. Participation is based upon an appropriate match between the individual and a particular program. Where feasible and suitable, the J provides necessary supports, including individual programming. Be a part of our newest inclusion program, Buddies@Work! This is a new prevocational program for young adults with developmental disabilities. Participants will meet at the J and work on interpersonal skills and plan monthly activities to bring to the participants of the J’s Adult Day Center. Fun will also be incorporated during each session, and we’ll even kick in some great fitness classes now and then. Sessions run monthly. Challenge yourself in the J’s inaugural Splash ‘n Dash this spring! Similar to a triathlon, Splash ‘n Dash is a two-stage race that features swimming and running. Be a part of this exciting swim team transition program for young swimmers who have graduated the J Splash Academy and are interested in the J Sharks Swim team. Swimmers will continue to develop skills through instruction on stroke technique, endurance and sprint drills. They will also be introduced to legal racing techniques including turns, starts and finishes. No program 3/27 & 4/24.
Aquatics
Prerequisites: Must swim 300 yards continuously using these strokes in the following order: 100 yards/front crawl; 100 yards/breaststroke; and 100 yards/ either front crawl or breaststroke or a combination. All 300 yards must use rhythmic breathing with your face in the water and a stabilizing, propellant kick. Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a minimum depth of seven feet, retrieve a 10 lb. object, return to surface, and swim back to starting point with the object within one minute and 40 seconds. When returning to the starting point, you must hold the 10 lb. object with both hands and keep you face above water.

Welcome to a new and exciting program for swim lessons at the J! The J Splash Academy is our new, all-encompassing swim program, designed to create confident, strong, lifelong swimmers of all ages, starting at six months. Our instructors are trained to offer compassion-based instruction, positive reinforcement and encouragement each step of the way. There are three broad areas of J SPLASH: Introduction to Water & Water Safety Skills, Basic Swimming Skills, and Competitive Swimming Technique. As children progress, they will “swim” their way through the fun development tiers. The new program provides more opportunity for skill level progression, regular feedback and accomplishment awards for swimmers as they progress through our “fishy” levels.

Splash Babies
___ 6 mos-3 yrs Classes introduce basic skills and safety to parents and children, while comforting parents as they teach their infants about putting their face in the water, blowing bubbles and being relaxed in a pool. Parent(s) are required to be in the water with their child.
Starfish
__________ 3 yrs & up This is an introduction to basic water skills thorough interactive play for children with little or no experience in a pool. Get in, get wet, and get comfortable.
Pufferfish
Children comfortable in the water, but with limited skills, will be encouraged to do all Starfish skills independently. Pufferfish focus is to learn basic swimming survival.
Lionfish
Swimmers will receive an introduction to strokes and kicks, as instructors focus on underwater breath control, kicking and pulling to result in forward-motion swimming and in-water safety skills. Students must be able to perform all Starfish and Pufferfish skills independently.
Angelfish
Angelfish step up to stroke development by learning and practicing beginner stokes, and an eventual introduction to advanced strokes and kicks. Instruction will also include diving and various techniques for treading water.
Stingrays
Stingrays will receive further instruction on proper stroke techniques and proficient rotary breathing. Swimmers will improve their skills practicing specific swimming and breathe control drills.
Hammerheads
Once swimmers are able to perform all strokes and dives proficiently, instruction shifts focus to distant and endurance swimming while introducing competitive swimming skills. *Starfish-Angelfish will have a 4:1 student’s to instructor ratio. Stingrays and Hammerhead 6:1

Aqua Fit: Moderate-impact, water-specific exercises designed to progressively build strength, flexibility and endurance in a refreshing and joint-supportive environment. Aqua Flow: (Formally Arthritis Foundation Exercise): Exercise with the aid of the water’s buoyancy and resistance can help improve joint flexibility. Good choice for those participants with arthritis, rehabbing or new to aqua fitness. Aqua Power: This is a high intensity, multi-discipline workout in the lap pool. Participants must be comfortable in all depths of the pool. Finning, treading, kick boxing traditional water moves and more. Aqua Power Deep: High intensity, no impact water resistance training that improves muscle tone, aerobic capacity, flexibility strength and endurance with the use of resistance equipment and flotation belts; class will be held in deep water. Aqua Tai Chi: Combines the beautiful, flowing movements of Tai Chi with the resistive and relaxing properties of water. Sharsheret, Hebrew for “chain,” is a national not-for-profit organization supporting young women and their families, of all Jewish backgrounds, facing breast, ovarian, and other related cancers. Sharsheret combines the spirit of Nishmah and the mission of Sharsheret to offer support in the St. Louis Jewish community to survivors and women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer or who are at increased genetic risk, by fostering culturally relevant individualized connections with networks of peers, health professionals and related resources. OLD WICKED SONGS by Jon Marans 3/7-4/3 An American piano prodigy with an artistic block, travels to Vienna to study with a famed teacher, only to learn he must first study with a vocal teacher. The contentious relationship between the two ultimately reveals deep truths. An inspirational journey of two very different men who must find a way to break through their personal and artistic pasts.

The J Associates is a women’s auxiliary in support of the J. Their mission includes raising funds which are then allocated annually for various J departments which are used for scholarships and programming, regardless of age, race, or religion. Touching all ages, from infants to the elderly, the J Associates have contributed to numerous programs such as Home Delivered Meals and Theatre Unlimited for adults with special needs; scholarships allowing children to attend camps and the early childhood program. Local artist Randi Chervitz instructs how to make challah covers using the 8th century Japanese shibori dyeing method. If you have a password and ID, enter it in the User Log In area now. Or… • If you are a J member and new to the Online Services (with no username or password), please contact our Membership Services staff at 314-442-3173. Members must have an email address on file in order to access the Online Services. • If you have utilized the Online Service area before (J member or non-member program participant) and have forgotten your username and/or password, click on Forgot Username/Password? to receive new ones through email.
