NP Speaks Dear JCI members, Greetings from your National President, Jc Ramkumar Menon. Victory belongs to the most persevering. -Napoleon Bonaparte JCI India is on a roll. We have developed a wonderful habit. Habit of setting new benchmarks; only to go beyond in the next year to set newer and higher benchmarks! It is indeed a great trait to have. With the kind of talent, dedication, commitment and passion I see at every level, be it at National, Zone and LOM level, I am sure that 2017 is going to be a year of magnificent performance all around. Let's plan, prepare and persevere to Perform LOTS is a program which sets the tone for the whole year and I am delighted that in every Zone it was conducted in a grand way. I understand that the attendance and the quality of program were of the highest order. Let us use this as the right platform to take our performance this year to dizzy heights. Records are meant to be broken. We have created history this year with Integrity oath being taken by 78.68 JCI PPP RamkumarMenon lac school children covering 13,481institutions all over India. My hearty Congratulations to all LOM 2017 National President – JCI India Presidents who organised Integrity Day in an exemplary manner. This year, our dream is to take our membership strength to 50000. It is certainly possible if we take care of the three most essential areas namely Internal growth, External growth and Retention. The secret to retain members is to understand the needs of the members and designing activities and projects to their taste. Energy and enthusiasm of LOMs enhance as new blood flows in and I urge all LOMs to add minimum 10% to your existing strength. Spreading our wings to unrepresented areas is vital to better our PR and hence exter What makes JCI special is the freedom for the LOMs to design and implement projects to suit their community needs. While planning a project, please ask 'Why we are doing this?' and 'How this will benefit the Community?'. If satisfactory answers are there for these questions, you can be rest assured that you are doing the right things. I take this opportunity to Congratulate Editor – Challenge, Jc Sachin Kurtikar and his editorial board for bringing out this issue of Challenge in a fabulous manner. Wish you all a wonderful year ahead. Let's Build a Better Future. With love & regards, JCI PPP. Ramkumar Menon National President

We must be actors instead of spectators, workers instead of customers. When we take an active interest in our communities and understand the issues happening around us, instead of just waiting for things to happen, we enable change in our communities that creates momentum toward something new something better. As active citizens, we must work to unite all sectors of society to create sustainable impact because it is not just someone else’s future it is our future.

A PROJECT OF NIPPON FOUNDATION , JAPAN , JOINTLY WITH JCI & JCI INDIA, aimed to fight against discrimination and violations of the human rights of those affected by the leprosy in India.Purpose of the project is to build awareness against anti discrimination and stigma against leprosy in India. India has declared elimination of leprosy as a Public health problem, indicating that at National level, there were less than 1 per 10,000 cases on treatment (as per the government statistics). Also the fact is that 58.85% of new leprosy cases in the world are in India., 1.27 lakhs new cases of leprosy were reported in India during 2013-14, 12,043 new cases of leprosy during 2013-14 were children, and more than 10% of new cases detected were children and women .
Knowing these thfacts, ththis project is designed to train and empower students from 09 to 12 standard. In the states of India, which are endemic to leprosy. Every active LOM present, will organize this program to make the young generation aware of social issues and build confidence in them to encounter practical issues of life and society through Nippon Foundation certified trainers. The trained young students will be the ambassadors / leaders to bring the change of the attitude of discrimination towards leprosy effected people. During Global Appeal 2017 at Delhi, our Prime Minister Honorable Narendra Modi addressed the Nation to join hand towards this movement. JCI India is working towards that goal through its dedicated LOMs. Telengana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu and in Kerala, the LOMs are organizing the project and educating the students towards this mission. We want more and more LOMs to come ahead to organize this program. For more details, please mail to prgns@jciindia.in

2017- Make it a year of decisions... “98% of people around us are in their present vocation because of indecision” –Napoleon Hill True? Do you agree with this famous statement of Napoleon Hill? Have you reached your present job and life because of indecision? Or do you proudly think,-as many of us think- it was because of the right decisions you took very intelligently at appropriate occasions? Once, in a training programme, I was explaining this statement. After giving it a second thought, a majority of the participants agreed with it. Almost all of them agreed that it was not the life they dreamed about during their childhood days. Or in their adolescent days. “..Only if I took a strong decision to materialize that dream?!” was the way in which they all were thinking now, after digesting Hill's statement. However, this does not mean that they thought they were any failures in life. Actually, even though almost all have moved much away from their early dreams, some of them landed fortunately at far better positions than they dreamt about. (Surely, many were not that lucky). And for that too, they took some life changing decisions at certain junctions. Even then, Hill's statement is true! How? It was only because of the strong decisions that they did not take earlier, they were compelled to move to a second or third alternative paths. One of the participants however, said- “No, I don't agree with that statement. I took a decision to become a doctor early in my life, worked hard for it and eventually became a doctor.” I could happily respond, - “Friend, may be, Hill kept away a 2% for guys like you!!” So almost all of us, reached now and here, because of indecision!! If that is so, at least now, can we take a decision on this? A decision to belong to that 2% for the rest of our life at least? That enables us to say somewhat 1015 years later, “I reached here not because of indecisions but because of the decisions I took 10-15 years back?” If so, don't you think, we can travel in the seats of that 2% at least for the rest of our life? Royally and happily? In fact it is decisions that make or break our life…decisions to achieve, decisions to succeed, decisions to do something and many more such decisions. Sometimes, the biggest wrong decision will be indecision. Is it not? So it's time to think wisely and decide intelligently.

JFM MK Deepak JCI Designer JCI Kannur Handloom City trainerdeepak@gmail.com This early hour of a New Year is a right occasion to take fine, good decisions that will have long term impacts in our life, profession, family etc. They may be big decisions or small decisions but let them be good decisions. For a beginning, make this the right time to take a decision about some unwanted things in our life. About the things you have been carrying unnecessarily for last many years. Don't you have some such things? Things that have been bothering you much for last many years? Like, the memberships in an organization, that you don't like and you don't want? Responsibilities in another one where you have nothing to prove and nothing to learn? Habits you have been carrying for the last many years which just spoils your time and money? The laziness you have been comfortably keeping (!), which do not allow you to find out even half an hour for daily exercise or daily planning…?! We will be able to find out many more on a deeper look into our own life.. Nowadays even watsup is becoming a big nuisance in the lives of many. See this:-The other day, you met a childhood friend after many years. First thing he did after your happy parting was to add you in to one or two watsup groups!! Oh..! There began another flood of messages almost every hour! Messegaes and jokes older than your age already received from several groups! What to do? Without quitting the group, we just suffer. Because, how to say “no” to a good old friend? Is it not time to send a polite excuse message and jump out of many groups if it spoils our private, precious time? So in these early hours of 2017, let us think. From our life, from our daily routines, from our character, find out the things that you really want to address fast and seriously. Also select and set some worthy, big future goals. Then take strong, right, positive decisions to advance excellently well in our personal, professional and social life. Their impact will be certainly positive and the benefits will be highly rewarding lifelong. May we all be able to say after a few years: - “I reached here because of the decisions I made in 2017, not because of indecisions...” Let us contradict and disprove Napoleon Hill by the rest of our life. Wish you a happy new year filled with many great decisions..!!
