2015-2016

T

he College of Coastal Georgia and the College Foundation welcome the new academic year with great enthusiasm. There is much to celebrate as the fall term begins: • We are still basking in the glow of back-to-back national championships for the Mariner men’s golf team. • We are launching three new bachelor’s degrees.

Dr. Gregory F. Aloia, Ph. D.

• Our academic programs are achieving noteworthy success.

• Our fulltime student headcount is increasing by an anticipated 63.5% and our freshman class by 15% over last fall. Both Lakeside Village and Coastal Place Apartments exceed 100% capacity and additional student housing is being leased off campus to support the higher enrollment while Mariner Village is being built.

Jack Kilgore

These exciting developments in both the Brunswick and Camden provide new challenges and opportunities for us – in athletics, in faculty recruitment, in student life and new campus programming, in new outreach programs spanning a diverse spectrum of cultural and educational initiatives, in community engagement and partnerships, and in affordability and accessibility. Tuition and state support are simply not sufficient to maintain affordability of higher education for so many of our students – whether first-generation, recent high school graduate, talented athlete or working parent – who understand the connection between a degree and a bright future.

Within these pages, we hope you will find a place, a program, a project that matches your own interests and excites you. The College of Coastal Georgia still needs your support – now more than ever. College of Coastal Georgia President

Growth and Opportunity

Setting Sails For A Brighter Future

We transformed from a community college back in 2009 to a four-year baccalaureate-granting college – and we’ve never looked back!

By The Numbers

Accredited with just four baccalaureate degrees in 2009, we are launching three new baccalaureate degrees this fall, including bachelor’s degrees in French and in Spanish and a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies designed to help adult learners utilize work experience and military credit to progress to degree completion.

The University System of Georgia has invested $100 million in new buildings and renovations to existing facilities on the College of Coastal Georgia campus since 2008.

The opening of Lakeside Village in 2011 marked the College’s debut as a residential campus. With Lakeside operating at full capacity, the second phase of on-campus housing is now under construction – Mariner Village, a suite-type building with a bed count for 216 students.

The College of Coastal Georgia offers 13 baccalaureate degree programs and 45 associate degree programs.

Since the first baccalaureate degrees were awarded for 2011-2012, as of May 2015 Commencement the College has graduated 762 baccalaureate degree holders.

45% of CCGA students will be the first in their family to graduate from college.

Student Scholarship Support

We Are Changing Lives

Scholarships help deserving students reach their goal of a college degree without incurring the high undergraduate debt that can cripple both students and their families. Needs-based scholarships maintain the affordability of higher education for students who have the will but not the resources. More than half of the College’s full time enrollment is Pell-eligible (low income) and 45% are first-generation college students.

Your gift to the College of Coastal Georgia to create an endowed or restricted scholarship or to contribute to an existing scholarship will make college possible – certainly more affordable – for a deserving student.

Cost of Attendance

Merit-based scholarships attract and retain students with recognized talent in areas such as academics, leadership and athletics, providing the incentive for students to make the College of Coastal Georgia their college of choice.

$2,217 per semester

Restricted or endowed scholarships provide the opportunity to maximize student impact through the pairing of philanthropic generosity with specific donor interests and/or intentions.

*In-State Tuition and Fees for GA, FL, SC, and AL residents

Did you know?

$4,434 per year

Students from Florida, South Carolina and Alabama are all also eligible for In-State tuition, thanks to the “Border Residents Waiver” Program.

Your Investment A gift of any amount to our existing scholarships will significantly increase our ability to impact the lives of our students. A gift of $25,000 will create an unrestricted scholarship that enables the College to recruit talented and deserving students A gift of $50,000 will established an endowed, named scholarship that we award according to your wishes. This is your opportunity to leave a legacy and influence the future of the College.

This year, the CCGA Foundation will award more than $730,000 in scholarship to 320 students.

11% of our students receive some level of scholarship support from the College of Coastal Georgia Foundation.

Academic Program Support

Creating the Conditions for Student Success

The College offers an honors cohort for academically-qualified students and promotes undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activities in all fields of study. In 2015, we hosted our first Undergraduate Research Symposium to highlight student/faculty collaborative work. This is the second year we sent Berman Fellows – talented American Studies students – to The Thomas Jefferson Foundation at Monticello and The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center in Charlottesville, Virginia for summer internships in research. Our conservation biology students in the coastal ecology track of the B.S. in Biological Sciences program are involved in systematic field study and biologic monitoring at Cannon’s Point Preserve, part of a multi-year commitment to partner with the St. Simons Island Land Trust, Cannon’s Point Preserve, and the Coastal Resources Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Our students intern at places such as the Georgia Sea

Turtle Center on Jekyll Island and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center or tutor grade school students in summer literacy programs. Intellectually passionate benefactors partnering with the College can create more of these focused opportunities, inspiring both students and faculty.

Your Investment A gift to any of our Academic schools or departments will promise necessary resources to directly impact the lives of our students. A variety of naming opportunities for professorships, distinguished chairs, and lecture series range from $400,000 to $1 million. Ask us for additional information.

In the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, 100% of the B.S.N. graduates passed the National Council Licensure Examination for the licensing of nurses and the degree program rates #1 across all three ranking categories in the NCLEX report.

Building a Campus Culture The college experience is more than a student’s interaction in the classroom. Engaging with classmates and providing opportunities to interact outside the formal learning environment rounds out the students’ experience and provides a holistic approach to their education. Providing programming that supports students in intellectual, cultural, social, personal and professional growth builds a rich campus culture that promotes intellectual curiosity, student success, and engaged citizenship. Campus culture doesn’t just happen. It must be created, supported, and nurtured. Students need space for interaction, exposure to programming, and support from staff members who are skilled at educating students outside the classroom. Your gift will be used to enhance the campus culture and provide endless opportunities for students to interact, engage and build Mariner pride.
