SAFETY MEASURES JCPRD is dedicated to providing a safe and enjoyable event for all. As COVID guidelines have been updated from the Johnson County Department of Health & Environment as well as the CDC, we've updated our safety measures for this event.

Pre-Race Briefing Briefing will be done in a virtual format with video posted to website/social media.

Spectators We will be allowing spectators at the event. We ask that anyone joining you on race day, remain an appropriate distance from others outside of their household.

Masks are not required but are highly encouraged for those that are not fully vaccinated.

Please maintain a safe distance from those outside of your household.

High touch areas will be disinfected often. Hand washing/sanitization stations will be available.

Goggles may be worn but aren’t required

Proper swimwear must be worn

Swimmers must wear the event provided/assigned swim cap during the swim

Participants must follow instructions given by lifeguards and officials

Transition rules •

Transition area is open to participants only

All gear must be placed next to the participant’s bike

Bikes are to be racked according to the map on page 8

After completing the bike leg of the race, athletes must re-rack their bike in the same location and in an upright position

No riding bicycles in the transition area

Bicycle equipment rules •

Bikes must have working brakes - at least one on each wheel

No aero or time trial bars may be attached or used

Participants must wear a properly fitting helmet which must be clipped any time the athlete is on the bike

Athletes must wear shoes while cycling

General race rules •

Headphones may not be worn during any part of the race

Race numbers must be displayed at all times

parking Gates to Kill Creek Park will open at 6:00am on Saturday, August 21st. There will be several volunteers stationed throughout the park to direct you to a designated lot. Please assist us by following the directions of the volunteers to ensure everyone has a parking spot. Below is a map that will show the parking lots you may be asked to park your vehicle in. All handicap parking will be in the lot labeled “1”.

White arrows indicate what route you may be asked to use by the volunteers to get to your designated parking spot. Yellow arrows show how to get to transition from each parking lot.

Timing Chip Race Bib This will be worn during the bicycling and running portions of the race. Athletes need to wear this on the front of their shirt during these legs of the race. They can either use safety pins (provided) or wear a race belt.

Athletes will be required to wear a timing band around their left ankle for the entire race. Be sure to wear this as no chip = no time. Athletes in the Tots Tri will NOT have a timing chip.

Helmet Sticker This adhesive sticker will be placed on the front center of the bike helmet.

Two GREEN Wristbands Please see the next page for more details on this.

Swim Cap Athletes will be required to wear a pre-designated swim cap during the swim portion of the race. The swim cap color will denote the race category. See the Heat Sheet for more details.

Bike Tag This adhesive sticker will be placed under the bike seat (facing out) around the cylinder bar of the bike seat.


athlete check out For the safety of all athletes, parents/ guardians will be REQUIRED to check their athlete out at the finish line. The athlete race packet will contain 2 green wristbands with the same number: one for the athlete and one for the parent/ guardian. The parent/guardian must be wearing the matching wristband in order to pick-up their athlete once they have completed the race. Athletes will not be allowed to leave the finish line without a parent/guardian with the corresponding wristband to check them out from the race management team. Thank you for your cooperation and for keeping all athletes safe on race day!

Bikes will be racked in the same location before and after the child is on the bike course. Spots are first come, first serve (not pre-assigned). Please rack 7 bikes per rack.

These times are estimated start times. Please be sure to have your child ready to swim at least 10 minutes before their heat is scheduled to begin.

Athletes will begin on the east side of the beach and run across the beach to the west side. From there, athletes will enter the water and swim in the “lane” created by the lifeguards on their left and swim buoys/ropes on their right. Once athletes exit the water after their appropriate number of laps (6-10 y/o: one, 11-14 y/o: two), they will run up the beach, out the gate and into the transition area.

After completing your race, stick around to cheer on the other athletes and enjoy a shaved ice from Jarvy’s Shaved Ice!

Post Race Food: Athletes are welcome to enjoy post-race food including chocolate milk provided by Hiland Dairy, fresh fruit from HyVee, and breakfast sandwiches from Wendy’s. Participants will also receive a complimentary shaved ice from Jarvy’s Shaved Ice after completing the race. *Additional shaved ice refreshments may be purchased with cash or card

Photos on the Podium: podiums will be set up on the beach and will be available to take photos on prior to and following the awards ceremony.
