Christmas is all about. WJCL News reported that in 2013, the National Retail Federation said that Americans spent less than $7 billion on Halloween, but on Christmas we spent $600 billion. Even if Halloween isn’t as popular as Christmas, it still says something. Having any popular holiday be this VLJQLÂżFDQWO\ FKHDSHU WKDQ &KULVWPDV PD\ mean that the focus stores put on the holidays are more for the money and less for the meaning. After the $866 spending peak in 2007, Gallup polls showed that there was a tremendous drop during the 2008 recession. Ever since the recession, the amount spent on an average of 1,000 people in the United States has steadily gone up and is now estimated to spend about $781, which is still pretty high for a few presents. Although it could be argued that the majority of the Christmas budget is indeed spent on family members, it still Â
shouldn’t be about who gets or gives the best gifts. It also seems that the competition has begun to move outside of just family competition, but could be seen between friends or classmates. Who has the newest shoes, the newest laptop, the list goes on. Christmas should be a time to practice religion or enjoy time with your family, not to get upset if you didn’t get what you wanted, or to brag about what you get. Christmas cheer of decorating, caroling, and even shopping for presents should happen after Thanksgiving and into the month of December and no sooner.

Location Breakdown States where same sex marriage has been approved and banned Missouri’s constitutional amendment banning gay marriage was approved by voters in 2004, being WKH ¿UVW VWDWH WR DGRSW D constitutional ban on the issue, but following U.S. District Judge Smith’s Nov. 7 ruling, the ban was overturned leading to certain counties such as St. Louis county and Jackson county to issue over 70 same sex marriage licenses. However, the issue may not be so simple as Attorney General Chris Koster is pushing to appeal the ruling, stating that despite the fact that he supports gay marriage he desires to clarify legal uncertainty. Koster was soon met with over 3,000 petitions by the Show Me marriage coalition, showing that the issue is far from over.

Steps for Legalizing same-Âsex Marriage in Missouri:
I II III IV
On Nov. 5th a judge ruled to overturn the ban, basically saying that the ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional. This is where Missouri is right now with legislation. A gay couple can legally get married in St. Louis since that is where it was declared unconstitutional.
The state has to go to circuit court of appeals the ban so that it can become a statewide ruling.
If the appeals court upholds the ban, then it can be appealed again and taken to the Missouri Supreme Court.
Depending on the State’s Supreme Court ruling, the case could be taken to the U.S. Supreme Court for review.
