Inspection requirements for Historic Registrations have changed as most will be well aware. It is now the owners responsibility to have their historically registered vehicle inspected every three years in addition to the signing of a Statutory Declaration annually. This means that by June 2015 you do need to have your vehicle inspected by one of the club’s authorised inspectors. The inspector will sign your log book to indicate that you have complied with this requirement. This is a very simple inspection and can be done at regular club outings by arrangement with one of our authorised inspectors. Each Register has appointed inspectors and a list 3

Club Torque PRESIDENT’S REPORT The 41st Anniversary of the Jaguar Drivers Club of South Australia. What a wonderful night! It was great to see so many members come along and join together to celebrate the success of our club and our Award Winners. Editors Award went to Doug Tilly for his article titled “My Wappenbury experience”. Bob Charman received a mention for his prolific contribution to CM. It is important that members send through their articles to Phil Prior to give a broad range of interests. Most Enthusiastic New Member went to Arcadia Komaromi. Arcadia and Jim joined the club last year and since then have attended all general and register meetings, organised register runs, club events and attended the National Rally. Their contribution is much appreciated by all. Club Person of the Year was to a well deserving couple. Tom and Marj Brindle have been long term members who are always contributing in many ways. They have run the Club Library for in excess of 10 years, sourcing material and bringing it to General Meetings every month. Marj is also always assisting Registers with their Suppers at General Meetings. Presidents Award was presented to another long term member, Don Evans. Don has contributed to the club over many years either as a Vehicle Inspector, Judge, Technical Adviser, Marshall or what ever was needed on the day.

Big thanks to Marg and Geoff Thomas, Ros and Peter Holland and Daphne Charman for organising such a tremendous event. Thankyou also to Ray Smithers for a great job as MC and our Patron Mr. Ian Webber for assisting with presentations. The venue was wonderful, music and food great and or course, the company!!! July was a very busy month for the Adamson family. Together with Pete and Kathy Taylor and another family we headed off early on the 5th of July to travel the Simpson Desert. There were no Jaguars on this trip, a Prado, Pajero and a Patrol. For two weeks we camped our way through beautiful sunny days and freezing cold mornings. Other than a couple of drops of rain one evening, we didn’t see a cloud until just out of Broken Hill on our second last day. The tracks were very rough and we heard of two incidents in one day where vehicles had to call for assistance from Birdsville for a mobile welder to come into the desert to repair a cracked chassis. On leaving the bush we hit the ground running. Scott turned 18 two days after our return, I flew to the Gold Coast for a funeral and finally the JDCSA Annual Dinner. Hope to see you at the next General Meeting, Tuesday 5th August 2014. Our guest speakers will be Dane and Geoff Wilden giving a presentation on their adventures on the Shitbox Rally. Di PS: Don’t forget our Annual General Meeting in September. Please consider nominating for a position.

F-TYPE Project 7 is a fully road-legal two-seater roadster, which will be built by Jaguar Land Rover's newly established Special Operations division. Of all aluminum construction and with bespoke carbonfiber aerodynamic aids, a unique suspension tune, 80kg weight reduction and 575HP power output, FTYPE Project 7 will deliver a truly focused driving experience. Jaguar F-TYPE Project 7 makes dynamic debut at Le Mans Classic (WHITLEY, UK) - July 2, 2014 - F-TYPE Project 7, the most powerful and fastest production Jaguar to date, will make its dynamic debut in front of packed crowds during this weekend's Le Mans Classic race meeting from July 4-6. Following its unveiling at Goodwood's Festival of Speed where customer interest far exceeded the intended production run of a maximum of 250 units - F-TYPE Project 7 will complete demonstration laps throughout the Le Mans Classic weekend. In celebration of the Jaguar D-type's 60th anniversary - a car which won at le Mans three times and which inspired Project 7's genesis - F-TYPE Project 7 will complete its demonstration laps alongside the very first D-type ever built, and with examples of the all-new F-TYPE R Coupé. With racing over the weekend split into six grids - each celebrating an era of Le Mans' history - the F-TYPE Project 7 demonstration laps will take place ahead of qualifying and race sessions for Grid 2. Jaguar News Jaguar brand recognized as Best Luxury Brand in Total Quality by Strategic Vision
(MAHWAH, N.J.) - June 30, 2014 - According to the Strategic Vision Inc (SVI) Total Quality Index™ (TQI) released today, the Jaguar brand is named one of the best luxury brands in 2014. This recognition demonstrates Jaguar's commitment to producing vehicles that buyers judge high in perceived quality and emotional delight. "We are honored to have been ranked one of the best luxury brands in 2014 by Strategic Vision," said Joe Eberhardt, President & CEO, Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC. "This recognition is a testament to the quality and performance of Jaguar vehicles as well as the renewed spirit and passion for the brand."
Sir William Lyon’s Personal Mk X Up for Sale
A Jaguar MkX used by Jaguar’s founder as his personal car is going under the hammer, amid controversy about its history. The 1961 car is described as a prototype, code named ‘Zenith’, and will be sold by Coys at its Jaguar Legends sale 11
This recognition comes on the heels of Jaguar ranking second among all nameplates in the automotive Industry in J.D. Power's 2014 Initial Quality Study (IQS), giving the British brand its third consecutive year as a top ten scorer in the critical U.S. consumer study. The Strategic Vision Total Quality Index score is a holistic measure that encompasses positive and negative product experiences including reliability, actual problems, driving excitement and other measures that are collectively energized by the emotional response associated with the aggregate of all those experiences - hence Total Quality.
Jaguar Heritage confirmed it issued a heritage certificate for the car which confirms its links with Jaguar’s founder, although it disputed its description as being one of the ‘Zenith’ pre-production cars. A spokesman for Coys said: ‘This particular car was manufactured in 1961 and was first registered in January 1962 to Sir William Lyons. The interior has certain additions which are thought to have been personally requested by Sir William. ‘Although the paintwork and interior will need refurbishment, the engine does run and presents itself as an interesting project for the enthusiast. An important car historically having been delivered new to Sir William, this surely must be a great opportunity.’ Meanwhile, Jaguar Heritage marque historian Anders Clausager said: ‘The significance of this car is that it definitely was used by Sir William Lyons, and would have been used as his company car. ‘However, I would dispute the description of the car as being a pre-production model, due to the chassis number and the particular engine and gearbox fitted to the car. It is a significant car, but it would be more accurate to describe it as an early production model.’ The unrestored 3.8 litre saloon, which has a recorded mileage of 71,297 and is registered 7868 RW, is being offered without reserve.

Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations Strengthens Heritage Business with Acquisition of British Classic Car Collection Jaguar Land Rover has today announced that it has purchased the largest privately owned collection of British cars, securing this important collection for the nation. The collection assembled over many years by British enthusiast James Hull, includes 543 mostly British classic cars and features many significant Jaguar models including XK SS, C, D and E-types. The acquisition underscores Jaguar Land Rover's increased support and focus on heritage. The cars in the collection will be actively used to support brand and experiential marketing to develop the brands and business in existing and emerging markets. The collection which has been painstakingly assembled and restored by James Hull, British car enthusiast, entrepreneur and philanthropist, has at its core over 130 Jaguars. These include early Swallow Sidecars and Swallow coachbuilt Austin Sevens, plus a full and diverse range of pre-war SS models, 7 XK 120s - including a rare alloy-bodied example, C- and D-types, an XKSS, 8 E-types, 30 classic Jaguar 'Mark' model saloons plus 19 XJS models and over 20 XJ saloons with interesting and famous previous owners. The majority of these cars are in truly outstanding condition, with many having fascinating histories behind them. The collection also features many other iconic and famous British cars and models.
12
This acquisition is part of an increased commitment by Jaguar Land Rover to protect and nurture the rich heritage possessed by both brands. It follows the recent creation of Special Operations, which has been established to develop and oversee heritage and the creation of special vehicles, such as the recently announced Jaguar Project 7. The Project 7 is a limited edition F-TYPE, which takes its inspiration from the legendary D-type. The Project 7 name refers to the seven outright Le Mans victories scored by Jaguar and is highly appropriate given this is the 60th Anniversary of the creation of the D-type. The Jaguar Heritage business, part of Special Operations, recently announced the build of six perfect recreations of the original, race-bred Lightweight E-type that was created in 1963. The new Lightweights will hand-built by highly skilled Jaguar craftsmen in a new Jaguar heritage facility at Browns Lane, less than a hundred yards from where the original cars were assembled in 1963. This new facility will utilise those same skills to offer Jaguar warrantied servicing and restoration of the company's classic models. The cars in the collection will be actively used to support experiential marketing with customers and for global brand events. A good example of this will be the global launch of the Jaguar XE in early September together with many other

events and activities in new and emerging markets. It is in these newly developing markets that heritage can play a key role in establishing and developing the brand. John Edwards, Managing Director of Special Vehicle Operations commented. "We are delighted that Jaguar Land Rover has come to an agreement with James Hull to secure the future of this very significant collection of Jaguar and British cars. We share the same objective as James to
keep this unique collection in British hands and we are delighted this agreement secures their custody for the future. We look forward to continuing to work with James going forward as we develop our heritage activities. Heritage is becoming an ever more important differentiating factor when it comes to experiential customer marketing and in developing our brands in new and emerging markets. Jaguar and Land Rover have a combined "back catalogue" of over one hundred and forty years to draw upon and some of the most iconic vehicles in the industry. In addition with the explosive growth and interest in classic car events worldwide and the increase in the size and value of the market, there is a strong brand and business rationale underpinning this agreement." James Hull commented, "Travelling all over the world to build the collection over the years has been a labour of love and a life's work, so my primary motivation was not to get the maximum price but rather to secure the future of the collection in this country with the right custodian. I have got to know Jaguar Land Rover well in recent years and they have borrowed cars from the collection for events such as the Mille Miglia and supporting Jaguar in China. They are the perfect custodians to take the collection forward and I know it is in safe hands."

Register Minutes Car Talk: Richard regaled us with the saga of the rattly tappet and the evil that can come from use of silicone in an engine rebuild. (It wasn’t Richard.) He told us about an improved fan to increase the flow of air through the radiator and the use of waterless coolant. John Williams reported on ignition and speedo problems and the excellent progress that Julian has made recently on his 120. Sue and Doug now intend to keep the white Mark 9 and fit it with new carpet. The grey car will be sold. Robin travelled 1100 miles in the Mark 9 in May. Onslow has repaired the handbrake and it worked OK for a short time. Robin closed the meeting at 9.10pm and we adjourned for lots of Jag talk and tea, coffee and delicious biscuits. Thanks, Wendy.

Walter & Beryl Bullock All’s well. Service and belts checked. George Calvert Was working behind the dash with the car in the shed. Turned on the ignition and the petrol pump was ticking away. However, when I turned the ignition off, the ticking still continued. Tried everything known to man, but couldn’t stop it. I wasn’t until later when the rain stopped, that I noticed the ticking also stopped. The rain in the drain sounds just like my petrol pump. Bob & Daphne Charman Had the auto transmission serviced on the ‘S’ Type. The oil and trans. were still like new. Sorry I did it now. Cost about the same as a return trip to Europe. Timothy Dunning Car going well. John & Claire Evans Minimal use. Just enough to move the oil around. Peter Holland All cars going well. Fay Leyton N.T.R. The Cat’s Giggle Two businessmen in a new shopping mall.....were sit-
ting down for a break in their soon-to-be new shop...As yet, the shop wasn't ready, with only a few shelves set up. One said to the other, "I bet any minute now some pensioner is going to walk by, put their face to the window, and ask what we're selling." No sooner were the words out of his mouth when, sure enough, a curious old woman walked to the window, had a peek, and in a soft voice asked “What are you selling here?" One of the men replied sarcastically, "We're selling assholes." Without skipping a beat, the old dear said, “Must be doing well... Only two left!."
Has Nothing Changed "The Budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed, lest Rome will become bankrupt. People must again learn to work instead of living on public assistance." - Cicero, 55 BC (So, evidently we've learned bugger all over the past 2,069 years.)
A young man saw an elderly couple sitting down to
lunch at McDonald's. He noticed that they had ordered one meal, and an extra drink cup. As he watched, the gentleman carefully divided the hamburger in half, then counted out the fries, one for him, one for her, until each had half of them. Then he poured half of the soft drink into the extra cup and set that in front of his wife. The old man then began to eat, and his wife sat watching, with her hands folded in her lap. The young man decided to ask if they would allow him to purchase another meal for them so that they didn't have to split theirs. The old gentleman said, "Oh no. We've been married 50 years, and everything has always been and will always be shared, 50/50." The young man then asked the wife if she was going to eat, and she replied, "It's his turn with the teeth."

45th NATIONAL RALLY & POST RALLY TOUR 18th to 26th APRIL 2014 The National Rally for 2014 was hosted by the JCCV and held in in Melbourne with delegates from all states. The regrettably small contingent from SA consisted of Ron and Claire Palmer (2014 XF), Jim and Arcadia Komaromi (2007 S Type) and Judy and I (2010 X Type). Our journey began at the Old Tollgate on the Thursday before the rally was to commence and we had a relaxing first day’s run to Ararat with coffee and nibbles at Tailem Bend and Nhil. The following morning with the aide of the invaluable GPS we drove through rain into Melbourne to Rally Headquarters in the Novatel at Glen Waverly for registration, making and rekindling valued friendships with enthusiasts from all over the country. The Jaguar Australia welcome party at the Novatel that evening heightened the camaraderie as all present enjoyed fine food and beverages. Michael Winkler, Jaguar Australia’s Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover Asia Pacific addressed the gathering and presented the previously unreleased in Australia F Type Coupe especially flown in from Singapore for the Rally. All present were in awe of the stunningly crisp, flowing lines of this latest Jaguar creation of motoring desire as it simpered seductively amongst the enthusiastic revellers.
Saturday unfortunately dawned overcast and raining as it was to be Concours and Display Day at Jells Park, a huge, unexpected and beautiful green oasis in Glen Waverly. The Jaguars were lined up on the grass grouped in their respective models in a picturesque, undulating area overlooking a large lake while those to be judged in d’Elegance and d’ Etat were in an area roped off to keep the public at bay. .Judging was delayed due to the rain but eventually commenced with difficulty as the unfortunate judges coped with umbrellas and soggy score sheets. Eventually the rain stopped and the spectacle of hundreds of gleaming Jags was heart-warming to behold and those sheltering in the adjacent very busy restaurant and coffee lounge emerged to admire the display. I was asked to join ACJC representatives in the judging of the most desirable Jaguar on display and after much deliberation we unanimously chose a beautiful D Type Replica from Victoria. After such a great day at Jells Park coaches took delegates from the Novatel to the JCCV clubrooms for a “Bush Dance”. These clubrooms, shared with the Austin Healy Club, are magnificent and a wonderful asset where members can 23
meet in ideal surroundings with all facilities such as large dining room and lounge areas, bar, regalia shop, kitchen and ample parking. The evening was a real “hoot” with bush band Bushwazee and good bush tucker. Many original “Bushies” arrived dressed in all manner of bush attire. Sunday morning saw petrol heads off to Sandown Motor Circuit for the Sporting Event. Some twenty five Jaguars were entered in seven separate classes. It was great to see Jags of all ages entered together with various other makes and models. The Jags in particular sounded fantastic as they roared past the assembled spectators in the pits on the start finish straight. Having driven at Sandown years ago in my XJ6 Sprinter it was very difficult to watch from the pit lane but I was under strict instructions not to enter as, “We need the car for the post rally tour and to drive home”. A modified V12 E Type racer imported from the UK was the fastest Jaguar on the day looking and sounding magnificent.
The alternative to the sporting event was a tour entitled, “Get Lost in Melbourne’s Arcades and Lanes” which was found to be very enjoyable by many of the ladies and some of the boys too as they shopped and sampled the many and varied eateries. Sunday evening the Presentation Dinner was to be held in the ballroom of the Southern Golf Club. We took the first coach provided expecting a twenty minute trip to the Club but became suspicious after thirty plus minutes had elapsed. When the driver asked if anyone on the bus was from Melbourne we realised we were lost! We finally arrived over an hour late missing out on pre-dinner drinks. Nevertheless a great evening was had by all with fine food, wine and company and a pleasant surprise with first class period entertainment by Wilbur Wild and his group of Hey Hey its Saturday. After such a great night, brunch at the JCCV clubrooms was the farewell function and the starting point for the Post Rally Tour, “Jaguars Prowl the Peninsula”. Everyone agreed the Rally had been a resounding success and that Rally Director Lyn Belcher and her JCCV team performed magnificently. Having waved farewell at the JCCV clubrooms we headed off towards Mornington Peninsular, all fifty one participants of the Post Rally Tour lead by tour hosts, Ian Barton in his immaculate dark blue XK140 drop head and his wife Judy

riding shotgun in her topaz X Type. Jim and Arcadia were heading off back to SA via the Coast Road so were no longer part of the group. First stop for the entourage was for coffee at McClelland Art Gallery at Langwarren then on to our home for the next five nights, the Fairways resort at the Rosebud Country Club where we unpacked and enjoyed a Meet and Greet dinner in the Bistro. Breakfast next morning was the first of the Continental type organised by Ian, Judy and Lynn whereby they provided all with the necessary items e.g. bread, butter, milk, cereals, fruit etc. so that we could all breakfast easily and inexpensively in our own rooms. A great idea! Morning tea was at Caldermeade Café on the South Gippsland Highway where a mini pet zoo was interesting, then on to an ideal Jaguar drive along a flowing back road through rolling farmland near Inverloch down to San Remo for a fish and chip lunch before crossing the bridge to Phillip Island and the Grand Prix Circuit. A tour of the track had been organised and included the pits building, control tower and timing facilities all made very real and exciting as a motorcycle club event was in full swing with bikes travelling at racing speeds. Again I could appreciate the magic of this, the best track in Australia, as I had raced the XJ6 Sprinter here with the Victorian Sprinters Register some years ago. The SA quartet made a quick tour of the island before returning to Rosebud for dinner at the RSL Club. A long but great day! Day three saw us all up early again, this time to nearby All Smiles Beach for a wake up coffee and an energetic, for some, climb to the ocean lookout. Portsea former Army Barracks and Quarantine Station was the next destination where we spent two hours exploring the early settlement establishment adjacent to the famous Port Phillip Rip at the entrance to the harbour, a site of much historic interest. Lunch was at one of our favourite locations when in Melbourne, the Portsea Hotel overlooking the beautiful bay towards Anglesea on the far side. A short drive took us to the Cape Shank Lighthouse where we climbed up the 150+ year old stone tower to the still functioning light to be shown its original mechanical features and current operational system. An interesting museum is housed in two of the original cottages used by the keepers. Dinner that night was reached by coach at Maxs Restaurant at Red Hill south. Another excellent venue with fine food. Thursday morning saw us all arriving at Tyabb where The Old Aeroplane Factory is a feature for aero enthusiasts of which most of us turned out to be. An unbelievable display of WW1 and WW2 planes most in flying condition, were to await us with enthusiastic volunteers to provide background and stories of individual models. Morning tea followed at Tyabb Packing House, a conglomeration of antique warehouses and sheds with all manner of “goodies”. The Royal Hotel on the esplanade at Mornington was the venue for lunch in a beautifully restored and elegant dining room after which a picturesque drive along the foreshore took us back to Rosebud. Boarding a coach in early afternoon we were to be taken to a mystery location for pre-dinner cocktails and canapés and to our very pleasurable surprise we arrived at our Tour Leaders’ home and amazing adjoining “Man Cave” which is the envy of all who are privileged to view its contents which are too many to describe here. Suffice to say Ian Barton has the best and most varied of private motoring collections I have seen in many a long year, involving cars old and 24
new, motorcycles, a motoring library, artefacts, models and a priceless timber motor launch of the 1940’s era exclusively built for him in the USA. It was very difficult to tear us away from this superb collection to continue on to another great evening, this time at the Veraison Restaurant at Balnarring. Day five saw us arriving early to enjoy the views along the coast from Arthurs Seat. We moved on to close by Charlies Auto Museum which has a large and varied collection of motor vehicles of all types including an air cooled 2.5 litre V8 Tatraplan, a 1932 Cord and a much shortened all wheel steer Mini, all in excellent condition. This museum covers a large area and is well worth a visit. The beautiful gardens of the Ashcombe Maze followed for scones and coffee and once everyone eventually made it out we moved on to the famous Pig and Whistle for a good old ”pommie” lunch and beer. Our final evening meal was at the up market Port Phillip Estate at Red Hill South, another of the fine dining establishments on the Peninsula, the ideal setting for the Tour’s” last supper”. Breakfast next morning was a happy/sad affair in the dining room of our now, well-loved Fairway Resort as it was time for fond farewells. Having experienced so many good times together over a memorable five days realising it was over seemingly so soon was a blow. Ian and Judy, with assistance from Lynn had meticulously put together a fabulous Tour and then actioned their plan faultlessly. All credit to a great team. Ron, Claire, Judy and I returned home via the Great Ocean Road staying overnight at Apollo Bay and Mount Gambier. The National Rally and Post Rally Tour were, as these events have always been for those who take part, a wonderful experience. We commend next year’s event in Tasmania to all JDCSA members. Get in early, don’t miss out! RAY SMITHERS

FICKLE FINGER OF FATE 2013 There is a man among us Who shared such a passion with his Jag They would hide away together, overcome by the fragrance of leather In the garage when supposedly reading a mag Now this affair with the white Series One XJ6 Lasted for many long and happy years Until to his true love he was naughty, taking off with an XJ40 She was slinky and red and sure to bring tears With the chance of this affair being fast and furious And despite those who would criticise and scoff The relationship survived and remained alive Once again with passion and persistence he had pulled it off Our man has enjoyed many a Jag Club run But always drove slowly coming last in the arrival stakes The reason became clear when trading in last year Both cars were found to be light on for brakes Driving a late model S Type now He has joined the fast lane types On the Multi Valve run to Vic, he drove so quick That he ran down a low flying galah – cripes! For many years as a top gun plumber He featured weekly in the Messenger Press With a smiling handsome photo, taken many, many years ago Designed to win over young mothers no less
The suspension was raised so no rocks would be grazed Then was returned, all in practice with no forgetting. All seemed well until next morning When the Disco was started a warning beep began It continued quite loud and gathered a crowd All offering suggestions, experienced experts to a man. The driver’s handbook was consulted And various combinations of the many buttons tried But to no avail, as the beeper continued to wail Whenever the ignition key was inserted and applied. The exasperated owner was by now convinced That the suspension had a major malfunction And was unsafe to drive and would thus deprive Him of the forthcoming off road organised function. He was soon on the phone to Tec Sec Geoff Who suggested a couple of options These were tried and the battery re-applied But no improvement called for alcoholic concoctions. By now the four wheel drive convoy was about to set off So it was decided the lad would ride with me As a Disco driver extraordinaire, I would be able to share My expertise and skills clear to see. So off we went through deep and dangerous creek crossings And up steep bush tracks with serious intent But when we started down, his pants were possibly brown When I applied my secret weapon – auto descent!
The Flora van fully equipped and ready Now sits waiting for action in the Prospect shed It’s no longer required, as he recently retired But you never know when you might need to cut a new thread.
Over the edge and down we went With feet off pedals and only holding the wheel Completely under control, with very little rock and roll He was relieved he hadn’t required nerves of steel. Back at his misbehaving Discovery And having learnt of our cross country success Doug Tilley pointed out, with a Eureka shout For auto descent, is this the button you press?
Now this gent has some unusual eating habits At a Jag function he once ate the table decoration He’s a Tripe Club member and we must remember To eat offal intentionally really needs explanation.
Sure enough all this so called suspension grief Was due to the little yellow button and a misguided push Unnoticed by our man, who in future has the plan To Read The FF-Flaming Manual before taking to the bush.
Being a staunch British built car fan He bought a Land Rover Discovery four wheel drive A V8 no less, but he has to confess It’s not for off road, just keeping him young and alive.
By now you will all have recognised our hero The subject of this long drawn out parcel We are not being petty, when we sympathise with Betty A great partner for the irrepressible John Castle.
On the recent JOCCERS run to Spear Creek All went well until he trialled the off road setting

GOODWOOD REVIVAL TO STAGE RACE EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE JAGUAR D-TYPE 21/07/14 from Goodwood Motor Circuit
The Goodwood Revival will celebrate the 60th anniversary of arguably Britain’s most iconic sports car, the Jaguar Dtype, with a special race for examples of the legendary machine at the September 12-14 event. As many as 30 D-types, invited from across the globe, will take part in the Lavant Cup, which will be held on the Saturday of the Revival. Vehicles will include the regular- bodied car as well as the later ‘long-nose’ special. Examples of the D-type’s roadgoing variant, the XKSS will also compete while the experimental E2A, the one-off prototype that acted as the bridge between the D and the later E-type, is also set to race. The D-type, which replaced the ultra-successful C-type, made its competition debut in 1954, and went on to win the Le Mans 24 Hours the following year with Mike Hawthorn and Ivor Bueb driving for Jaguar’s works team. The Scottish Ecurie Ecosse outfit added further Le Mans victories for the
D- type in 1956 for Ron Flockhart and Ninian Sanderson, and in ’57 for Flockhart and Bueb. The latter season showed utter dominance by the Coventrybuilt machine, as five of the top six finishers at La Sarthe were D-types; the first four all powered by the 3.4-litre engine and the JD Hamilton car in sixth of Duncan Hamilton and Masten Gregory equipped with a 3.8-litre power plant. D-types have also raced with great success at the Goodwood Revival. Most recently, Gary Pearson triumphed in the 2006 Sussex Trophy, and touring car legend Anthony Reid won the same race in 2013.
At SA JAG DAY Sunday October 19, 2014 YES it is on again and we need you involved. Last year we gathered together almost 3000 items of food and other basic items for distribution by the Salvation Army. This year I am sure we can do even better.
Enjoy Jag Day out with other members and their cars.
Collect a boot full of canned food for those less fortunate than ourselves.
Gain some valuable PR and publicity for the club. All canned food and donations collected on the day will once again go to the Salvation Army to be distributed to those in need. 27
