Club torque PRESIDENT’S REPORT December is nearly here and Christmas is just around the corner. I am sure the year goes by faster each year we get older. We have had a very successful year with both our Annual Dinner and SA Jag Day having the biggest numbers for years. We also had a huge turnout for the “Climb to the Eagle” even though the weather tried to deter some with a 40 degree day. Our membership has continued to grow largely thanks to our members working together to put on runs and functions during the year. We have a membership age spanning probably 70 years which would be fairly unique in a club these days. This diverse range is what gives us the knowledge, the enthusiasm and camaraderie that keeps us growing. We had news last week that Onslow Billinghurst, one of our Vehicle Inspectors, had a tractor accident on his property. He was in a critical condition for several days but in Onslow’s usual manner he is strong willed and is fighting back to be back in the Jag. Our thoughts and support are with Onslow and Wendy during the long road back to good health. Our Club Calendar should be distributed at the Christmas General Meeting which is being hosted by the Compact Register. Please come along and join us for Dinner from 6pm or join us for the meeting from 7.45pm which will include entertainment, Peoples Choice Presentation and supper. If two lanes of traffic are merging, give way enough to allow the “zipper” principle to work. 3. Where possible do not block intersections when stopping in a line of traffic. Now when my wife reads this editorial I know full well what she will say, something like “Practice what you preach!”. Maybe courtesy is contagious and I will be a better and more courteous driver as a result of these experiences. I guess others will be the judge.
Sue and I recently returned from an interstate trip to NSW. We both have elderly mums in their nineties, my mum in Tamworth and Sue’s mum in Sydney. Our custom is approximately every 4 months to fly to Tamworth for a few days then back to Sydney for a few days and then home. We hire a car while their and seek to do battle with Sydney roads and traffic, which is the point of this editorial. Sydney traffic is horrific! But is made tolerable by the attitude and courtesy of (most) Sydney drivers. Every time we go to Sydney we comment on the courtesy of drivers compared with the ignorance and arrogance of native South Australian drivers. If you signal to change lanes, drivers will actually let you in. When you are in a merging lane drivers understand how merging lanes are supposed to work with a “zipper” effect. The result is seamless for all concerned. Their seems to be no resentment about “pushing in”, everyone understands that we all need to “push-in” if we are to get to where we need to go. There are three simple rules that if applied seriously in Adelaide would improve our driving experience considerably. They may even be described as common courtesy. 1. When a driver signals their intention / wish to change lanes, back off and let them in.

Classic Marque 2015 This is the last Magazine for 2014. I wish to thank all members who have made a contribution during the year, it makes my job so much easier. There will be no magazine in January, so the first edition for 2015 will be February, with a deadline for copy being Tuesday January 27th. Once again I am requesting the submission of articles, photos, register reports and in particular ‘Member’s Pride’ articles for next year. Register Secretaries are requested to ensure I get at least a couple of submissions from your register for next year. A brief story about your Jaguar experience and a couple of photos is all it takes to be famous.
Editorial Assistance I don’t think this request during the year has been treated seriously. This could well be my last year as Editor of the magazine, so lets see what we can do about encouraging someone to prepare to take up the reins in the future. Inspection requirements for Historic Registrations have changed as most will be well aware. It is now the owners responsibility to have their historically registered vehicle inspected every three years in addition to the signing of a Statutory Declaration annually. This means that by June 2015 you do need to have your vehicle inspected by one of the club’s authorised inspectors. The inspector will sign your log book to indicate that you have complied with this requirement. This is a very simple inspection and can be done at regular club outings by arrangement with one of our authorised inspectors. Each Register has appointed inspectors and a 5

BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES; WELFARE REPORT:. Nothing to report PRESIDENT : Di Adamson Di Congratulated everyone on a great Jag Day, particularly Phil Prior for organizing the committee. We had a fantastic range of Special Interest Vehicles and over 145 vehicles on display. Evaluation forms will be distributed to give feedback on the event. We have 27 vehicles registered for this Fridays “Climb to the Eagle” event. Weather forecast is around 40 degrees so may be a bit uncomfortable. VICE PRESIDENT: Julian Lugg Reminder for the 3 Year vehicle inspections, Please do not all wait until the last minute. Old log books need to note inspections and ensure this is transposed if you receive a new log book. SECRETARY: Kathy Taylor The last month has been quiet. Received a flyer for Moonta Show andShine, and McLaren Vale Classic and Vintage for next year and the usual Club Magazines. TREASURER: Tim White – Bank balanced reported. ACJC: Rick Luff has resigned from this position and Peter Holland has been appointed as our new delegate. His first meeting will be in February 2015. Register minutes OTHER BUSINESS; 1. Rob Loffler advised all members present that our good friend Onslow Billinghurst has had a serious accident on his tractor and is currently in Flinders Medical Centre. Rob will keep all members up to date with his progress and our thoughts and prayers are with Onslow and Wendy. Flowers will be sent from the register. 2. It was agreed that the Christmas party scheduled for 7 December at the Billinghurst's home is to be cancelled. 3 The Jaguar Drivers Club will be having their Christmas dinner on Tuesday 2 December at the Police Club. Rob will book a table for our register and all members attending should meet at 6.30 if you wish to have a meal before the festivities. 4. Minutes of last meeting agreed as correct. 5. Drivers should sign the logbook and if there are two drivers for the day they should both sign. 6. Evaluation forms were distributed to members who were at the Jag Day to complete and return. 7. The editor of Classic Marque is looking for interesting stories about members cars and Rob urged members to send them in to the magazine. 8. Mannum Run. Rob Loffler gave a report about the Steam Up Event last Sunday at Mannum. 3 XKs attended and Rob displayed his restored speed boat with its interesting history. FUTURE EVENTS; 1. On 7 and 8 March 2015 we have been invited to display our cars at the Power of the Past event at Mount Barker oval. Anyone who would like to participate must complete a

form and return it to the organisers. Rob Loffler has copies of the form which he can email to those members interested, and he requested this be done fairly quickly. 2. John Williams advised that members are invited to join them possibly on the first weekend in August 2015 at their property at Beetaloo Valley, which is approximately 11 kms from Laura at the start of the Flinders Ranges for a camping/caravanning/walking time. He has asked for expressions of interest. 3. Jag Day is to be on 15 November 2015 or 18 October 2015. We need to keep in mind the Border Run, if it is to be organised by the Victorians, and hope it does not clash with either of these dates. 4. All British Day is 8 February 2015. Entries are closed. 5. Rob Loffler gave an indepth information session on problems with thermostats and radiators when buying new products. Any member about to do so should contact Rob for details. 6. McLaren Vale Vintage and Classic show is on again 7. Hahndorf Swap Meet is on 18 January 2015. Richard Smith expressed thanks to members for their messages of condolences on the passing of his mother. As there is to be no meeting in December due to Onslow's accident, there will be no meeting until the 3rd Wednesday in February 2015 at Ossie and Rayeena Petrucco's home. Line Director, Jaguar The enhancements broaden the F-TYPE range, from a supercharged V6 driving the rear wheels through a manual gearbox, to the 550hp F-TYPE R Coupe and Convertible with the supercharged V8, AWD and eight-speed Quickshift automatic transmission. Transmitting the V8's 502lb-ft of torque to the road though all wheels helps the R models to accelerate from zero to 60mph in just 3.9 seconds on the way to a maximum track speed of 186mph2. While the Jaguar eight-speed automatic transmission offers an excellent blend of shift speed, comfort and refinement, there will always be a select group of enthusiasts who want the satisfaction which comes from changing gear manually. THE CATS GIGGLE The child and his mother: A curious child asked his mother: “Mommy, why are some of your hairs turning grey?” The mother tried to use this occasion to teach her child: “It is because of you, dear. Every bad action of yours will turn one of my hairs grey!” The child replied innocently: “Now I know why grandmother has only grey hairs on her head.”
Wrong email address: A couple going on vacation but his wife was on a business trip so he went to the destination first and his wife would meet him the next day. When he reached his hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick email. Unfortunately, when typing her address, he mistyped a letter and his note was directed instead to an elderly preacher’s wife whose husband had passed away only the day before. When the grieving widow checked her email, she took one look at the monitor, let out a piercing scream, and fell to the floor in a dead faint. At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen: Dearest Wife, Just got checked in. Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow. P.S. Sure is hot down here.
Will’s experience at the airport: After his return from Rome, Will couldn’t find his luggage in the airport baggage area. He went to the lost luggage office and told the woman there that his bags hadn’t shown up on the carousel. She smiled and told him not to worry because they were trained professionals and he was in good hands. Then she asked Will, “Has your plane arrived yet?”
Clever kids: A police officer found a perfect hiding place for watching for speeding motorists. One day, the officer was amazed when everyone was under the speed limit, so he investigated and found the problem. A 10 years old boy was standing on the side of the road with a huge hand painted sign which said “Radar Trap Ahead.” A little more investigative work led the officer to the boy’s accomplice: another boy about 100 yards beyond the radar trap with a sign reading “TIPS” and a bucket at his feet full of change.

SS REGISTER BORDER RUN TO LOXTON 31st OCT to 3rd NOV ( Clayton’s 40th – similar to our Clayton’s 21st)
From the Desk of Register President Bruce Fletcher [with Ann’s help] DAY 1: The weekend started with 3 separate groups from the South, Centre and North meeting up at Swan Reach for a picnic lunch, Marg & Don Evans, Jean & Jack Richardson, Lorraine & Jim Temby, Betty & Ross Gogler and Dorothy & Graham Butler. After lunch we crossed the river and were joined by Julie & Marshall Scott for a very hot and windy drive to Loxton. Unfortunately two MKV’s failed to proceed past Chain of Ponds, both returned home, one repaired and one replaced for a modern car. After settling in to the Motel/Hotel/Caravan Park we were off to meet up with the rest of our group and the Victorians for registration where we received a “Run Pack” which included a DVD produced by Ross and Jan Rasmus of videos and photos of previous runs. DAY 2: After brekky we had a display of our cars in the Town Centre car park, kindly organised by the Council. While the men enjoyed showing off their cars the ladies were treated to a fashion parade put on by a dress boutique (Lami Saru) in the main street. All the ladies that attended enjoyed the informal show and quite a few bought something. Well done Margaret Kretschmer for the suggestion. We were then off to Banrock Station Winery for a wine tasting and lunch which was most enjoyable sitting out on the decking. The afternoon was free time which saw most of us just keep chatting over another glass of wine or coffee before heading back (some for a Papa nap) to get ready for the evening meal. We had the dining room all to ourselves, Bob and Judy Lynch were in charge of entertainment, diplomatic as usual, everyone got a prize for doing the ‘Find-a-word ’puzzle. DAY 3: Another enjoyable day, out to the Wilkadene Woolshed Brewery for lunch then to the Ruston’s Rose Garden and Car Museum in Renmark for coffee and cake. Ross led Ann up the ‘garden path’ which turned out to be someone’s private garden that butts on to the Rose Garden, it was so funny as they kept taking a path that they thought would take them back but they were all dead ends. Eventually

they found their way having thoroughly enjoyed the people’s garden. After returning to Loxton we gathered for “Happy Hour” before gathering for our last dinner once again held in a private dining room which enabled us to enjoy our usual entertainment of funny stories – this time supplied by Margaret Kretschmer and Bob McGrath compared by the Lynch duo. The Perpetual Trophy (Jag Nut) was presented to Elizabeth Bell by Bob Kretschmer who was the convener of the weekend, for her excellent production of photographs of past runs in a Book form, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. DAY 4: Monday had the usual farewells after a very successful weekend. All looking forward to the next one whichwill be organised by the Victorians. Bruce & Ann Fletcher
From the Desk of One who has done it all before, Ross RasmusIt was a great weekend, especially for our cars!!!!!!!!!! There was a Jaguar Mk V DHC that just made it up the first hill, before returning to the plains. Really I wanted to look after Jan and travel in an air-conditioned car!!!! Then there was the blue Jaguar Mk V that only lasted a couple of hundred meters more, before it too returned to the plains, only to have it's nervous system adjusted to correct the connection between the engine and wheels. Another Jaguar Mk V driver was getting high on petrol fumes!!!!!!!!! Another Jaguar Mk V, green this time incontinence!!! suffered Had to stop regularly on the way home for signs of leakage!!!! There was a cream Mk IV which required tender loving care to make her puRRRRRR properly!! A black Mk IV so close to home, did not want to be different to the other Jaguars, went home on a truck. There was a blue Jaguar, which did not want to go home, well not for four hours, must have liked the scenery at Swan Reach!!!!!!!! Did the little BURST of POWER on Sunday contribute to this problem. A dark blue Mk 1V needed a coffee stop at Angaston!!!!! Nothing has been said about a little red Porsche, so we believe she had no trouble. How could it better the Naracoorte weekend. A Jaguar MKII was so tried it had to be trailered the last few Kilo metres home (granted it was an extra 640 kms) The little grey SS whizzed up to Loxton & whizzed home again, no oil, water nor tools required. There was a modern Jaguar that had no trouble because it went so fast. A Red Jaguar was seen in front of a cloud of dust heading for Adelaide The white Jaguar XJ purred the whole weekend chauffeuring the owners of the blue Jaguar that was not there. Pretty good you might say when the oil pressure gauge read "0" The Holden--------------say no more There was an S Type seen at the Loxton Motel on Monday

From the Desk of the Organiser Bob Kretschmer Disconnected JottingsHaving the BBQ on the first night worked well as a close & central gathering place which was also successful for the morning Run Briefings & Happy-Hour each evening. Marg & I hoped you liked the local produce in the Rally Packs, there was so much from which to choose. I tried several times to engage with the local Vehicle Restorers Club based at Renmark without success. It was most helpful to be able to work through Nik Ciracovic for distributing all my messages to the Victorian members.
Thank you to Club Treasurer Tim White for advice & help re the finances. The Run Folder included a copy of the Original SS Register Meeting 18.4.74 plus a copy of the Swan Hill ‘The Guardian’ 3 Sept.1975 being a write-up of the First Border Run. Echoing Bruce’s comments that Elisabeth Bell’s draft photograph manual of all past Border Runs is a work to be admired. Keith announced that once new comments have been included a final Document will be made available to members at a cost TBA Julie Holbery’s photograph collection was also of considerable interest & she is to be thanked for proposing the idea of taking past memories for display. We have had the car for 18 years & are the third owners. The transmission was rebuilt 80,000km ago & the engine 11,000km. The leather interior is in good condition as too the walnut dash. On the Jaguar stand at the LA Auto Show today Andy Green revealed further details of the partnership including the integration of the Jaguar engine into Bloodhound SSC. Jaguar's 5.0-litre 550PS supercharged V8 engine will play a key role in the running of the car providing essential hydraulic services and also driving the rocket's oxidiser pump. This pump will supply 800-litres of High Test Peroxide (HTP) to the rocket in just 20 seconds - equivalent to 40-litres (over nine gallons) - every second.
