Club Torque PRESIDENT’S REPORT It is that busy time of year for our Membership Secretary and our Log Book Secretary. It seems some people are still confused and not sending all documents or have not had a 3 yearly inspection noted in their log book If you have a vehicle which is under Historic Registration with our club please ensure you send the documents listed below: 1. Current Original Registration Papers 2. Signed and witnessed (JP) Stat Dec 3. Completed Club Membership Renewal Form 4. Log Book (with a 3 yearly inspection noted in it) 5. Self addressed envelope large enough to return log books and papers If you do not complete the above before 30th June 2015, your vehicle will no longer comply with historic registration and therefore be unregistered and unable to be driven. I am pleased to advise Julian Lugg has taken on the role of heading up our SA JAG Day. Many hands make light work so please consider joining Julian’s team. Don’t forget to purchase your tickets to our Annual Dinner and Presentation Night on Saturday 25th July 2015 at the Glenelg Golf Club. Speak to either Marg Thomas, Daphne Charman or Roz Holland to secure your tickets. I am sure it will be another great night. Nothing more from me at the moment. Hope to see you at the June General Meeting. Di Adamson

Jaguar News

Jaguar has once again entered a large team of nine cars in this year’s Mille Miglia which is being held from May 14-17. The line-up consists of three C-types, three D-types, an XK120, an XK140 and a MK VII. It includes three cars from the Trust’s collection – the 1953 XK120 OOF 748 (once again being driven by Jodie Kidd), the famous C-type NDU 289 which participated in the 1953 Mille Miglia (being driven this year by Mike Cross) and the 1956 long nose D-type 393 RW which came 6th in the 1956 Le Mans 24 hour race (being driven on the Mille by celebrity chef James Martin).

The Drivers

To enable the chosen drivers to familiarise themselves with the cars and practice the fine skills needed for time trials, a ‘Mini Miglia’ event was staged up in Scotland on April 29 near Loch Lomond. The incredible scenery and winding roads of the Scottish Highlands provided the perfect backdrop for such an iconic selection of Jaguars. The cars travelled from Loch Lomond northbound on the A83 towards Inveraray Castle and then south along The Rest and Be Thankful – part of the original British Hill Climb Championship. Finally, the route looped back around towards Loch Lomond and the finish line.

Five-time winner of the Le Mans 24hr, three-time Daytona 24hr winner and world sportscar veteran, Derek Bell, will make his Mille Miglia debut driving a Jaguar C-type. Piloting the second C-type, 'NDU 289', will be Jaguar Vehicle Integrity Chief Engineer Mike Cross, while the final Ctype, 'PUG 676', will be driven by Royal Automobile Club Motoring Committee Chairman, Ben Cussons. Driving 'RSF 303', a priceless Jaguar D-type 'Long Nose' Ecurie Ecosse racer, which finished second at Le Mans in 1957, will be Jaguar Director of Design, Ian Callum. - this year he will be partnering up with businessman and classic car enthusiast, Clive Beecham. At the wheel of a Jaguar MK VII will be a man who's no stranger to speed and sleep deprivation - Charley Boorman. More used to two wheels than four thanks to his many motorbike adventures, Charley will be partnered by Bremont co -founder Giles English. The fastest saloon car of its day, a Jaguar MK VII was famously piloted to victory in the 1956 Monte Carlo Rally by Ronnie Adams with co-drivers Frank Biggar and Derek Johnstone. Making for a very glamorous cockpit in 'OOF 748' - the XK120 roadster is model, TV presenter and current host of Channel 5's The Classic Car Show, Jodie Kidd, whose codriver will be male supermodel, GQ columnist and classic car enthusiast, David Gandy. Host of the hugely popular BBC One show, Saturday Kitchen and well-known TV chef, James Martin, will be partnered by Bremont co-founder Nick English, brother of Giles. They will share the penultimate 'Long Nose' Jaguar D-type ever built, registered '393 RW'. Completing the trio of D-types will be one of the classic car world's most respected experts, Simon Kidston. Completing the Jaguar Heritage team line-up is successful British singer/song-writer Elliot Gleave, Elliot will be driving a XK140 with his father, Michael, as co-pilot. The XK140, registered 'TAC 743', was once owned by successful British racing driver David Hobbs.

Australia's top motoring journalists get behind the wheel of the new Jaguar XE

With its September launch date fast approaching, the new Jaguar XE was put to the test in Spain last week at an international event that attracted motoring press from all over the world. Amongst them were Australia’s top motoring journalists who got behind the wheel of the new XE while surrounded by some of the country’s most picturesque landscape

"We use this for crime prevention and community engagement events where we can interact with the community," he said. Jaguar Heritage Trust News One millionth Jaguar XJ – update

Jaguar passed a significant milestone at the end of February when the one millionth Jaguar XJ came off the production line at the Castle Bromwich factory. The Trust keeps records of Jaguar’s historic production numbers and it became apparent at the end of last year that this milestone was imminent – the cumulative production to the end of 2014 being nearly 997,000 units. After some careful counting and re-counting, the

one millionth car was identified as an XJ 3.0 V6 Supercharged, all-wheel drive long wheelbase model finished in Polaris White with London Tan trim. Reflecting the changing nature of the global JLR business, the car was despatched to China on March 3 where it had been ordered by a dealer based in the city of Mianyang which is in the Sichuan province in Southwest China.

New Vehicles on Display: As regular readers will be aware, vehicles from the Trust’s 150 strong car collection are currently on display at two locations – the Coventry Transport Museum and the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon. The latter of these normally showcases a selection of ten cars from Jaguar’s illustrious motorsport past, but as many of these cars are in demand for other events through the summer, it is often necessary to supplant them with alternative models. Two vehicles that have not been put on public display before have recently been placed in the Gaydon Jaguar gallery. These are a 1985 XJ40 Silverstone Fire Car and a 2012 XF Sportbrake finished in Sky livery that was one of the support vehicles for the Tour de France in which Bradley Wiggins famously secured the

first ever win for an English rider. The XJ40 is a pre-production model built in June 1985, originally fitted with the 2.9 litre engine and automatic gearbox. It was built to German specification with lefthand drive and was used for Engineering development. However, it was subsequently lent to the Silverstone Racing Circuit for use as a high-speed fire tender. Among other changes the car was fitted with a 4.0 litre AJ6 engine and 5 speed manual gearbox and the rear seat was removed to accommodate firefighting equipment. Handed over on 29th June 2012, the XF Sportbrake 3.0 Diesel S had been developed and adapted in close consultation between Jaguar and Team Sky with customised roof racks, race radios, and TVs to follow the action

Jaguar Land Rover Celebrates RecordBreaking Year Of Employee Volunteering  



Almost 10,000 Jaguar Land Rover employees, a third of its UK workforce, donated over 115,000 hours on community volunteering in 2014 8,140 employees donated 98,600 hours to support Jaguar Land Rover's 'Inspiring Tomorrow's Engineers' school STEM education programme alone 300,000 young people participated in Jaguar Land Rover's educational school visits, team challenges and outreach activities

Jaguar Land Rover, Business in the Community's 'Responsible Business of the Year 2013-2014', is celebrating a record-breaking year of employee volunteering and educational engagement. More than 9,600 employees, comprising over 30% of the company's UK workforce, supported volunteering in 2014, donating over 115,000 hours or 14,400 working days to support their local communities. This record-breaking performance is an increase of 36% on employee participation and 45% in time donated compared to 2013, which saw 5,860 employees donate 63,400 hours Around 85% of volunteers supported Jaguar Land Rover's 'Inspiring Tomorrow's Engineers' programme, which engaged 300,000 young people in the UK last year. Employees support Education Business Partnership Centres which run school visits and work placements at the company's sites by helping develop curriculum materials, delivering presentations to groups, supporting external careers events or mentoring young people on work experience placements. Jonathan Garrett, CSR Director, Jaguar Land Rover, commented, "Employee volunteering plays a pivotal role in our Community Relations strategy and we are delighted that so many of our employees donated their skills and time to benefit others. The fact that the majority of volunteers supported our 'Inspiring Tomorrow's Engineers' education programme demonstrates the passion and commitment of our workforce helping the next generation gain the skills and experience they need for successful working careers. As well as making a positive impact on young people's aspirations and attainment, our education activities also promote advanced manufacturing careers at 15

Jaguar Land Rover and our supply chain as well as acting as a pipeline for young talent, which is essential for the business to achieve its ambitious global growth plans." Genie Creamer-Hyland, Principle Engineer at Solihull Operations commented, "I joined the company in 2011 as a graduate and have enjoyed supporting educational programmes such as 'Young Woman in the Know' alongside my production role. Last year I donated 200 hours of work time to educational events which saw me mentor several work experience students during week-long placements and also gave engineering talks to school students visiting the onsite Education Business Partnership Centre. When I was younger, there was little information available about engineering careers so I'm really passionate about giving others the opportunities which were not available to me. These events give an overview to how vast and varied engineering roles are which many young people are not aware of. I particularly enjoy seeing how fascinated and excited students become when learning about how the plant works and enjoy promoting my role as a successful engineer. I'm very proud that several students I've supported over the past few years have now joined Jaguar Land Rover's apprentice programme and look forward to inspiring many more young people to pursue engineering careers in the future." Jaguar Land Rover releases employees from the workplace for up to two days per year to support projects focussing on regeneration, education, young people, charity work and the environment. Projects are identified through a volunteering challenge database or are nominated by employees. Many team projects involve physical improvements such as redecoration of community centres, creating sensory gardens or allotments, all of which improve facilities for the local community. As well as helping the local community and strengthening Jaguar Land Rover's reputation as a responsible business, group projects offer personal development opportunities including the development of leadership and project management skills.

The Cats Giggle

A burglar broke into a house one night.

He shined his flashlight around, looking for valuables when a voice in the dark said, 'Jesus knows you're here.' He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and froze. When he heard nothing more, he shook his head and continued. Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard 'Jesus is watching you.' Startled, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice. Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot. 'Did you say that?' he hissed at the parrot. 'Yes', the parrot confessed, then squawked, 'I'm just trying to warn you that he's watching you.' The burglar relaxed. 'Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?' 'Moses,' replied the bird. 'Moses?' the burglar laughed. 'What kind of people would name a bird Moses?' 'The kind of people who would name a Rottweiler Jesus.'

Funny Old Goat

A group of Americans was travelling on a bus tour through France and were in the Loire Valley quite near to the town of Sancerre. They stopped at the nearby village of Chavignol and visited a cheese farm where the world famous 'Crottin de Chavignol' goat's cheese is made; their guide, who was the farmer's wife, led them through a process of cheese making, explaining how goat's milk was used. Madame showed the group a picturesque hillside where many goats were grazing. These, she explained, were the older goats put out to pasture when they no longer produced. Madame then asked, turning to the group, 'What do you do in the USA with your old goats that aren't producing?' One spry and very quick elderly gentleman answered, 'They send us on bus tours.'
