We are currently on our way home from the National Rally in Caloundra so this report will be brief. We had a group of 4 Jaguars from SA and had a great time. We spent our spare moments brain storming and coming up with ideas for our National Rally in 2018. I would like to advise details of our President’s Run to the Barossa. The plan is on Saturday 7th May 2016 to meet at House of the Red Dragon Carpark “11 George McCullum Road, Smithfield” which is part of the Munno Para Shopping Centre Carpark on Main North Road at 9.15 am for a 9.30 am departure. We will head through Gawler then Lyndoch to Tanunda to view the “Carl Lindner Collection”. We will be joined by some members of the Hunter Region Jaguar Drivers Club. You do not have to travel on convoy and can meet us at Tanunda if you wish. The collection includes about 30 vehicles with six of these project vehicles at various stages of restoration. Almost all of the collection are Jaguars, but Carl also has an interest in racing history, so the collection includes a couple of vehicles with a connection to racing. There is also a Lincoln Zephyr in the collection which he
almost sold a couple of years ago, but decided to keep. Carl has three replica Jaguars The C TYPE, D TYPE & recently completed XKSS which have been constructed here. The XKSS was included in your calendar. There are two showrooms on site. There is a good amount of parking and disabled facilities. Photographs are welcome. The cost is $10 per head and it would be appreciated if correct money could be given. Following this lunch will be at the Barossa Weintal Hotel at 235 Murray Street, Tanunda. We have a menu of 5 choices for $18 per head. Chicken Caesar Roast of the Day Salt and Pepper Squid with Chips Beer Battered Barramundi with Chips Beef Schnitzel, with Chips, Salad and Gravy Hopefully you can join us for this great opportunity to view some spectacular Jaguars and have a great lunch. I would like to have members advise numbers for both the collection and lunch as a guide for Carl and catering. Please Text or email me at diadamson@internode.on.net or 0407862758.

Editor’s Burble Three score and ten, according to the
good book is a good life span, well there are a number of members in the club who have reached this milestone this year. To celebrate we are planning a road trip to the Riverland in July. This is not an exclusive event so if you are a member of the 1946 club and wish to attend please contact me for more information.. A couple of images from 1946.
Holden Protype from 1946
The difference in style of the two cars from this era shown opposite is very stark. Jaguar, however had big things in store. They had been working on a new overhead cam engine since as early as 1943. By September 1947 a 3.2litre 6-cylinder version had been produced, called the "XJ 6cylinder" The Jaguar XK twin overhead camshaft (DOHC) inline 6-cylinder engine was introduced in 1949 and continued in manufacture until 1992 . So far as styling is concerned development of the XK120 was well advanced and was launched in open two-seater roadster form at the 1948 London Motor Show as a testbed and show car for the new Jaguar XK engine. Just as significant was the design and planning of the Jaguar MarkVII launched at the 1950 London Motor Show as the successor to the Jaguar Mark V This subject also raises the issue of our clubs aging membership. The executive committee has discussed on many occasions the question “How do we attract younger members?” we would be very keen to hear from younger members if you have suggestions and ideas on this subject. Without being too morbid, the reality is that the average age of members at the moment means that the club could lose more than half our membership in the next twenty years or so unless we can attract new members. It is interesting to reflect on the fact that our club was commenced over 40 years ago by our first members who were mostly then in the 20—40 year age range. Thankfully many of them are still active members today.

THE BOTTOM LINE The Queen sells her 2009 Jaguar X-type
One unsuspecting petrol head can rest easy knowing their used Jaguar had one very careful lady owner previously - The Queen herself. The monarch's X-type - which comes complete with heated seats, parking sensors and a dog grille to stop the corgis distracting the driver - sold for £15,000 after being offered online. London-based car firm Fletchdale Ltd was involved in the sale and said the new owner did not realise they were buying from Her Majesty herself. 4

Secretary Kathy Taylor: Membership renewals will be out soon. If you have Historic Registration, please read carefully for all the requirements such as enclosing original(not copies) of your current registration, log books, stat decs etc where necessary. Vehicle inspection may also be necessary. Stamped return envelope is also required for return of log books.
WILL YOU RISK A FINE AND CANCELLATION OF YOUR HISTORIC REGISTRATION? Inspection requirements for Historic Registrations have changed as most will be well aware. It is now the owner’s responsibility to have their historically registered vehicle inspected every three years in addition to the signing of a Statutory Declaration annually. Evidence that you have complied with this requirement will be required when your membership is renewed. The inspector will sign your log book to indicate that you have complied with this requirement. This is a very simple inspection and can be done at regular club outings by arrangement with one of our authorised inspectors. Each Register has appointed inspectors and a list is supplied below for your convenience. It will be helpful if this is not left to the last minute putting extra burden on our willing inspectors.

THE BOTTOM LINE The story of the Lightweight E-Type goes back to 1963, when Jaguar set aside eighteen chassis numbers for a run of "Special GT E-Type" cars. These were factory-built racers with aluminum bodies, powered by the aluminum-block, 3.8-liter inline-six found in Jaguar's C- and D-Type LeMans racecars of the 1950s. Of the eighteen cars slated for production, only twelve were built and delivered to customers in 1964. For the next fifty years, those last six chassis numbers lay dormant, until their rediscovery a couple of years ago in a book in Jaguar's archives 7

Compact Picnic Meeting held in the Memorial Park at Prospect Sunday 10th April 12.00
Autumn is the very best time to let the Jaguars out for a run, especially the Compacts. Sunday the 10th April was just one of those days when the Compact Register met to compare notes and swap stories. As we all know Compacts are just so reliable that there was “NTR” (nothing to report) by anyone for the minutes albeit that the conversations between all members did not abate all afternoon! The Memorial Gardens behind the Prospect Oval were terrific with all conveniences at hand and (almost) a car park for everyone in font of the park. More importantly it provided our “Northern members” a chance to participate without having to drive quite so far. Tim White

Jaguar Classifieds FOR SALE --- 1976 Jaguar XJS V12 manual This original factory manual car was the 77th out of 352 early RHD V12 coupes. The JDHT certificate states the car was built on the 21st April 1976 ( the Queen's 50th birthday ) and delivered new to Henley's Limited in Bournemouth , England. The original colour was Signal Red and the interior was Black Leather trim . The car came to Australia fairly early in its life . I purchased it in June 2002 from a friend ( who sold for serious health reasons ) soon after a "back to bare metal " restoration had been mostly completed . The engine , brakes , driveline and rear end had been fully overhauled to better than new and a fresh acrylic paint job applied . This has never been polished and is now very well cured ! The interior trim , bumpers and other bits and pieces came with the car as well as many spare parts ( bonnet , boot , lhs door and mudguards from a donor car ) . This car was to be a " lightweight " track day special and the air conditioning is removed .The fuel system was to be high octane LPG , to which end the distributor has been recalibrated and an 80 litre gas tank installed in the boot in place of the original tank. An extra roller bearing is installed at the distributor base for longevity and high revs. ( anything in excess of 6,500 rpms ) Due to work and family commitments since then , the car has remained stored ( off the ground and covered in my dry garage ) since 2002 . My wife and I are now retiring and downsizing so there is no room for this

very interesting piece of Jaguar history. There are many more details and a multitude of parts ( choice of wheels ) which can go with the car . The hard work is probably about 80 % done and this represents a great opportunity for someone who appreciates the collectability of this quite rare Jaguar ( especially as I expect very few would have survived ) .The value of the restored original engine and gearbox alone is significant . An ideal restoration project just waiting for the keen XJS enthusiast to complete . There are several extras to go with the car , in particular a set of later model fibereglass bumpers from GWS . These are new and never used, originally cost $1300 . $8—$10,000 Neg.

Disc brakes introduced in 1952 for the C-Type racing cars were also fitted to some privately run competition XK 120s.
Steve Weeks were on hand to see it. The engine was started to see if it ran and it did! Julian began the restoration work by carefully dismantling the car being confident that he would remember where the parts all went. At that time any spare parts were second hand and hard to locate in wreckers.
Brief History: This car was despatched 16th May 1952 to Henlys of London and sold 17th May by Willetts Limited (Eastbourne) to Mr M. G. Mackey who raced the car. The car was raced in the UK including the Brighton Speed Trials September 1952/1953. It was also entered in hill-climb events in UK. (pics above) The car was purchased by Margaret Baldock in 1959. The bodywork and hood were restored by J Gilham & Co. The engine was rebuilt 1959/1960 by Chief Engineer Turner and assistant Godden from Ailsa Craig Diesel Engines Research & Development Department of Ashford in Kent. The engine was tuned on a test bed but had to be detuned for insurance. The car was tested at 124mph on the Ashford Kent bypass under police supervision. The car was painted white and in poor condition when brought to Australia by I D Bennett of Mount Eliza, Victoria in the 1960’s as a restoration project with other cars (including an XK140 and an XK150). It was stored for many years in Victoria before being purchased via Heinz Schendzielorz in March 1974 by current owners Julian & Moira Lugg.
Restoration Summary: When Julian picked up the tired looking XK120 in 1974 well known club identities Graham Franklin, Peter Holland and
Over the years the demands of work, moving house several times and other family priorities took precedence. The body was completely removed from the chassis and rusted areas repaired. During this time shed nights were established with support from club members and friends with continual slow progress being made. Parts were repaired or hand made to match the originals. Steve Weeks’ mechanical expertise was invaluable in rebuilding the engine which had very little wear and was consistent with a car that had only done 75,000 miles. After retirement Julian was able to dedicate more time to the project and regular shed nights were again established. Fellow XK Mk789 register members were very supportive in lending parts to copy, sharing expertise, time and experience. The undersides of the body and engine bay were painted before refitting to the chassis.

A small number of new parts were sourced from the UK with an interior kit being made in the USA. Recently published XK120 books were a great help in restoring the car to original specifications. The car was occasionally used on the road over about 12 months in 2014/15 (and was at the SA Jag Day 2014) before the restoration was completed. The final bodywork and painting was done by Edwardstown Custom Body Repairs with the interior fitting expertise from Alan Smith Motor Trimmer. Thank you to the many club members and friends for their support over the 42 years of the restoration. As many of the original parts as possible have been retained with the black bodywork, biscuit & red interior, and the original registration number being used.
42 Years later and . . . still making memories!
XK 120 Wedding Car On 30th January 2016 Zoe Lugg married Daniel Forrester at Julian & Moira Lugg’s property at Springton. Julian & Moira have owned the XK 120 since 1974 and for all of Zoe’s life it has been an old Jaguar in pieces in the shed. While the car was being painted in its original black colour near the end of 2015 Zoe asked to use the XK120 in her wedding and Julian was pleased to say it would be ready. Three XK120 roadsters (two white and one black) were used for the wedding. Thank you to register members John Williams and Graeme Schultz who prepared and brought along their white XK120 roadsters to participate in the wedding. The three XK120’s ran perfectly and looked magnificent in the setting of gardens and old stone buildings. Julian and Moira previously had their wedding featured in Classic Marque in 1974 with two Mk5’s and a Mk7.
