Club Torque PRESIDENT’S REPORT It is coming up to a very busy time of year for Motoring Enthusiasts in SA. First up is our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday the 1st September at 7.45pm upstairs in the Police Club, Carrington Street, Adelaide City and is being hosted by the XK, 7, 8,9 Register. We have had nominations for all elected positions except Event Co-ordinator, however nominations will be accepted up until the commencement of the AGM. The Event Coordinator communicates with Register Secretaries and logs events in the Club Calendar on our web site. This role ensures our registers don’t have multiple events on the same day. If you are interested, please call me for more information. We have the Bay to Birdwood Classic on the 27th Sept for vehicles from January 1956 to December 1978. There are well over 1000 vehicles to view, so either go along to Barrett Reserve for form up, pick a good spot along the route or roll up to Birdwood Motor Museum to join in the celebrations at the finish. Next we have our very own SA Jag Day, on 11th October at Brighton Secondary School. Display vehicles need to arrive between 9am and 10.30 am. We would like to see Jaguars/Daimlers of all shapes, sizes and condition. Trailer it in if you need to. For safety reasons it is most important

that vehicles stay positioned until 3pm . We are also conducting our collection of non perishable items for the Salvation Army, “Cats and Can” Please bring along what ever you can for this very worthy cause (More detail on page 9 of CM) See your Register Secretary for a letter which you can take to your Supermarket to possibly receive a store voucher for purchase of suitable goods within store. The Adelaide Motorsport Festival is being held on the 17th 18th October. We are registering for a Club Display of 20 cars on both days. We will be selecting a range of vehicles, particularly with a sporting character. Please contact me if you are interested in your vehicle being on display. Also if you are interested in racing at this event call Rick Luff on 0411426913 to co-ordinate our Club participants. Next month I will be filling you all in with information on a Breast Cancer Fund Raising Event being organized by Birdwood Motor Museum and Shannon’s Insurance. ”Take your tops off” 31st October This will be a convertible car show with a feminine side. Club Torque Minutes of AGM of JDCSA 16TH SEPTEMBER 2014 Meeting opened by the President, Di Adamson Present: approx. 40 members Apologies: Robin Ide, Rob Loffler, Geoff & Dane Wilden, Tony Human, Brian & Sue Walker, Martin O’Dea, Marg Piper, Claire Evans, Noel & Jo Orford, Bob & Daphne Charman, Tim & Sue White, Trish Clarke, Malcolm Adamson New Members: Rodney Taverner & Shena McGrane, Rollie Hogan Business Arising: None President: (Di) Who would believe it is nearly 12 months since I stepped into the role of President First, I must thank our various committees for their support and dedication over the past year. Also our other subcommittees (Jag Day, Annual Dinner, etc). We are also grateful for the many members who have organized an event or contributed to the Classic Marque. The club cannot and will not continue to grow as it has unless we continue to have members like this willing to contribute. The change in General Meeting format with Guest Speakers has been well received. We need to get feedback on what it is you would like to hear about. It does not have to be Jaguar related. We have had a diverse range of speakers including our Patron, Ian Webber. I believe our Club has been a pioneer within the Jaguar Drivers Clubs. We were the first club to go electronic and we have led a big change in the direction of National Rallies. At the last ACJC meeting it was confirmed that we are to host the National Rally in 2018. This is the result of years of work from both our past Executives and our past and current ACJC Representatives. Our challenge for the future and beyond is to not only to maintain but grow our membership. I would particularly like to thank Julian and Peter for their guidance and assistance over the past year. Congratulations to Kathy Taylor for her terrific job as Secretary and first year on Exec. Thank you also to members in other roles such as MSCA, Regalia, Library, All British Day, ACJC, Technical Officer, Historic Vehicle Federation and Vehicle Inspectors. We look forward to hearing more of Pete’s Pet Project which is developing to assist growth of our club well into the future. Vice President: (Julian) The Jaguar Drivers Club has continued to thrive over the last 12 months with an effective leadership team. Thank you to Di for her leadership and thank you to all executive committee members. We have seen the retirement of long time vehicle inspector Don Evans who has made a great contribution to the club over many years. Our other long term vehicle inspectors Onslow Billinghurst, Geoff Mockford and Evan Spartalis have continued to provide great service to club members. This year with the implementation of the 3 yearly inspections for historic registration we have increased the number of 6

vehicle inspectors. Each register now has at least one vehicle inspector to assist the club in complying with registration requirements and our log book officer Kathy Taylor has very effectively managed the logbook process and record keeping for our club. I also want to congratulate the register secretaries who provide great support to club members and represent registers on the Executive Committee. Also thanks to all the other volunteers who help provide a service for members. I wish the new committee all the best for the next 12 months. Secretary: (Kathy) Recently the club has established a new mail box address at Halifax Street. Over 230 members have had their logbooks processed this year. Treasurer: (Tim/Di) Treasurers Report for the year ended 30th June 2014 Overall we have total assets of $79,596.37 (2013 $78,512.64), which includes term deposits of $48,568.31 (2013 - $47,389.02). The result for the financial year was consistent with our budget with a small deficit of $4.39 A number of benefits and subsidies (direct & indirect) were passed onto members in a number of ways throughout the year. For example: presentation dinner, SA Jag Day, Christmas general meeting, calendars and Register Support. These benefits total some $19,755 or 75% of total income for this year. It still seems that club fees currently held at the 2008 level might not need to be increased for a couple of years and the executive will continue to review the long-term financial forecasts. Obviously further major changes around vehicle inspections could have a financial impost on clubs funds, which in turn may impact on membership fees. A big thank you to Simon Mudie from Eastwoods for doing the Audit again this financial year. We will continue to take where possible a long-term approach to our financial position so that the club is well positioned for the future to weather any “unknown unknowns”, not simply providing short term benefits which have no real member payback. I MOVE that the audited financial statements for the year ended 30/6/2014 be accepted. Tim has held the positions of, President 2005/6/7/8, Vice President. 2003/4, Treasurer. 2010/11/12/13/14, Regalia Officer. He was also treasurer of the 2007 National Rally held in Adelaide. Tim was instrumental in bringing our magazine Classic Marque into the Electronic world. Tim as well as Treasurer at the moment is also Compact Register Secretary. Tim is and has been a well-respected mentor and advisor for other club leaders over a long period of time ably supported by his wife Sue. Proposer: Geoff Thomas (Life Member). – secret ballot held – fully supported. Di declared all positions vacant and handed over to Peter Holland, who acted as returning officer. Peter thanked Di and the executive committee for their hard work over the last 12 months. Peter volunteered to speak at a future club meeting about the project to encourage younger members. Registrations are now closed and the BIG EVENT just weeks away Excitement is mounting as the event approaches. We are delighted with the way this event is shaping up. We now have a total of 34 XJCs registered for the display on the Sunday at the Aquatic Reserve in Echuca and 3 additional XJC owners whose cars

are under restoration and cannot be present. Including other Jaguar cars registered we will have a total of 47 cars registered for the weekend. The great part about this is that we have XJCs from every state in Australia attending, including two from WA and four from SA. Sunday October 11, 2015 YES it is on again and we need you involved. Last year we gathered together almost 3000 items of food and other basic items for distribution by the Salvation Army. HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH SA JAG DAY AT BRIGHTON SECONDARY SCHOOL, BRIGHTON ROAD, BRIGHTON Enjoy the day out with other members and their cars. Collect a boot full of canned food for distribution by the Salvation Army. All canned food and donations collected on the day will once again go to the Salvation Army to be distributed to those in need. Magpie and Stump Hotel MEETING and DEPARTURE: Caltex Service Station; Pt Wakefield Road, Bolivar. 9.15 for 9.30.AM departure. Take the opportunity for fuel, nibbles and toilets here. ROUTE : Drive out onto Pt Wakefield A1 Princess Freeway. After a short drive look for the large green sign for the exit left M20 Main North Road Freeway. Note this will be under the overpass now heading toward the Barossa Valley etc. Next and final exit look for the large green sign indicating a Left exit to the A32 Highway heading for Tarlee, Clare etc. Continue straight (no turn offs) on the A32 through Tarlee and onto Auburn. After Auburn will be the small town of Leasingham. Just before Leasingham look for a small green sign pointing RIGHT for the town of Mintaro. Mintaro is a short 15 to 20- minute drive from here. FIRST ATTRACTION STOP: At about 11am is The Mintaro Maze, Corner of Jacka Rd and Wakefield Road, Mintaro. Jacka Road is the first intersecting road on the entry to the village of Mintaro. Turn Right here and it is a very short distance to The Maze on your left . Note the entry drive into the Maze is off Jacka Road. Those members who wish to visit Martindale Hall later that day can purchase an additional (to the Maze) discounted entry at this venue. I have arranged group prices for both venues so take advantage of this discount offer if you wish. FINAL STOP and LUNCH: At about 12.30PM at the Magpie and Stump Hotel. Burra St, Mintaro. We have a simple two choice low cost mains menu and one can order deserts or tea coffee as required. POST LUNCH: Martindale Hall or mini convoy return to Adelaide can be discussed during the days itinerary. Other attractions are local touristy shops in Mintaro which feature local produce, arts and crafts plus there are the many boutique wineries within a short drive of Mintaro. Jaguar News Jaguar Land Rover July sales report

Jaguar delivered a solid performance in the month, selling 6,917 vehicles, up 14%. This increase was due to sales of the all-new Jaguar XE sports saloon Jaguar Land Rover, the UK's leading manufacturer of premium luxury vehicles today reported July retail sales of 33,239 vehicles, down 3% year-on-year. During the first seven months of the year, Jaguar Land Rover has sold 272,451 vehicles, 1% down on the same period last year.

up 1% year-on-year on the back of continued customer demand particularly for the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. Year-to-date Land Rover's sales performance has seen growth in the UK (up 17%), Europe (up 19%) and North America (up 20%).

Jaguar Land Rover's regional performance year-to-date shows 19% growth in Europe, 16% in the UK and 14% in North America, with Overseas down 11%. Sales in the China Region were down 28% year-to-date, due to changing market conditions and production ramping up for the locally produced Range Rover Evoque and run-out of other vehicles in advance of upcoming launches.

Calendar year-todate sales were down 11% year-on-year, retailing 44,416 vehicles. The F-TYPE continues to impress customers around the world, with sales up 7% in the first seven months of 2015. Year-to-date, demand for the Jaguar brand is strongest in the UK (up 10%) and Europe (up 20%)

Commenting on the performance, Andy Goss, Jaguar Land Rover Group Sales Operations Director said:"Despite a challenging macro-economic environment, particularly in China, demand for our premium vehicles remains encouraging. Sales in our key regions, the UK, Europe and North America have shown impressive growth year -to-date.



"Sales of the all-new Discovery Sport and the all-new Jaguar XE sports saloon continued strong this month, retailing almost 8,000 vehicles in total. We now look forward to a period of new product impetus, which will see the introduction of new 16 model year Jaguar XF and XJ and Range Rover Evoque vehicles in the coming months."



Land Rover sales in the month of July retailed 26,322, down 7%. Calendar year-to-date sales reached 228,035 vehicles,



In 2015/16 Jaguar Land Rover will spend £3.5 billion on new vehicle creation and capital expenditure. In the same period, the company will launch 12 new and refreshed vehicles from its UK plants, such as the Jaguar F-PACE at Solihull. In the past five years, Jaguar Land Rover has tripled its turnover, doubled its sales and doubled its workforce. It has gone from strength to strength, to become a fine example of British manufacturing success. In 2014, Jaguar Land Rover sold 462,678 vehicles, up 9%. Of that, Jaguar sold 81,570 vehicles and Land Rover sold 381,108 vehicles. In the first quarter 2015/16, it sold almost 30,000 vehicles in Europe, an increase of 28%. Jaguar Land Rover plans 50 product actions over the next five years.

Under a new process, drivers aged 75 years and older, who donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have a preexisting medical condition, will now have to complete a yearly questionnaire that will determine their fitness to drive.

annual medical test. If you already have a medical condition recorded against your license, you will also still have to visit a medical practitioner to get your fitness to drive form approved.

The change follows the removal of mandatory medical tests for drivers aged 70 and over, which were scrapped last year.

Drivers aged 75 and over with no preexisting medical condition will automatically receive the form in the mail each year and, if there is no existing medical condition to declare they can post it or return to Service SA.

The compulsory self-assessment form contains 11 questions. The answers provided will determine if a visit to a doctor is needed. The self-assessment process only applies to those with a normal car license, known as C-class. If you have a different license typeâ&#x20AC;&#x201D;such as for a truck or motor cycleâ&#x20AC;&#x201D; you still need to visit your doctor for an

St Cecilia’s – Week End with the Ghost

Saturday the 8th of August, the XJ, 420G, Mk10 Register headed off to Peterborough, driving through the Claire Valley. The Valley was at its absolute Splendor with its beautiful green winter growth. Morning tea was at Burra, which is always a must. Then it was only a short drive to Peterborough, but as we did, a strange feeling coming over us, was felt by most travelers. Was this the Ghost of St Cecelia’s???? Arriving at St Cecilia’s we were met by the headless statue of the Lady herself, standing in front of the Bishop’s Mansion, which stood in the back ground with an air of grace and magnificence. We were met by our beautiful hostess, and owner, Annette Frankel, who is an artist who moved to Peterborough from Melbourne to preserve the Historic building. As the building is Heritage listed, she is limited in what she can, and cannot do. She came up with the idea of hosting Murder Mystery Dinners in the Grand Ballroom.

After allocating the rooms is when the fun started. People were thrown off their beds, bed heads were collapsing, electric blankets would come on and off without notice, and the hot water had a mind of its own with Ghostly effect. Soon it was time to slip into costume in readiness for the evening. But, before dinner it was off to Happy Hour in David Bicknell’s suite. It didn’t take long before everyone was fairly happy. Then we all drove to the other end of town to visit the Railway Museum’s light and sound show. Then back to the Mansion for the Mystery Dinner. I have to admit, this was an event which you really had to be at. It had it all. Mrs Endora Fines (Daphne) ran the local brothel, which employed most of the women present. This establishment was visited frequently by most of the men present. The next morning at breakfast we discovered that Miss Lucy Bowles (Kathy Tyrrell) and mistress to the Bishop himself (Don Tyrrell) was the murderer. We had arrived in all our innocence, but we were going home a sorry looking lot of wicked men and loose women. This had to be one of the best weekends away we have ever had. Member’s Pride My Jaguar Story By

Being from the UK, in the street I lived in a few of the neighbours had Jaguar’s when they were new, most notably a gentleman across the street who was a director of a CCTV company had a 1986 XJ40 then a 1991 XJ40 in blue a beautiful looking car. Fast forward to 2004 I was now living in Adelaide and got a 1973 Jaguar XJ6 from Carsales, it had been off the road for a while and had had the engine rebuilt but there was a knock, turned out a bearing had been incorrectly fitted and after some remediation it was OK. I kept this car for a few years on Historic registration, the main reason for joining the club. I was a silent member for a couple of years, then the National Rally in SA 2007 came along and I decided to start going to the meetings. There is a wealth of knowledge about Jaguar’s in the club and it would be

great to have guest speakers from within the club at meetings as I like the technical side. Being in the Jaguar Club has allowed me to see some of Australia, notably Tasmania, Mount Gambier and we drove the Nullarbor to Perth (in our Ford). I think the trip to Perth and seeing all the lovely Jaguar’s on display persuaded me to get an 1988 XJ40. Also I was not driving the 1973 much at all and so I sold it to a nice fellow who was going to restore it so I think it went to a good home. I love the XJ40 and because it is on seasonal registration I tend to drive it for a few months each year, they need to be driven. My next Jaguar will probably be the last of the line XJ40 James Mann

The Cats Giggle An old, blind cowboy wanders into an all-girl biker bar by mistake.He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a shot of Jack Daniels. After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, “Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?” The bar immediately falls absolutely silent.In a very deep, husky voice, a woman next to him says, “Before you tell that joke, Cowboy, I think it is only fair, given that you are blind, that you should know five things: 1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat. 2. The bouncer is a blonde girl. 3. I’m a 6-foot tall, 175-pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate. 4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weight lifter. 5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler. Now, think about it seriously, Cowboy. Do you still wanna tell that blonde joke?” The blind cowboy thinks for a second, shakes his head and mutters, “No … not if I’m gonna have to explain it five times.”

I'll take the both of you for a ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and don't say a word I won't charge you a penny! But if you say one word it's fifty dollars. " Bill and Blanche agreed and up they went. The pilot did all kinds of fancy manoeuvres, but not a word was heard. He did his daredevil tricks over and over again, But still not a word... When they landed, the pilot turned to Bill and said, " By golly, I did everything I could to get you to yell out, but you didn't. I'm impressed! " Bill replied, " Well, to tell you the truth I almost said something when Blanche fell out, But you know, Fifty bucks is fifty bucks! "
