Club Torque Congratulations to our editor Dane Wilden on his productions of Classic Marque featuring the National Rally.

We have still been receiving great feedback about the Rally and there have also been Rally reports in interstate magazines.

One of our Rally guest speakers was Scott Shearman, the new owner of Wappenbury Hall in the UK. Scott has let me know that he has recently added an SS100 to his collection of Jaguars.

A NOTICE FROM THE TREASURER Tim White is retiring from the position after nearly 10 years in the role so we are seeking a new Treasurer at the AGM in September. Essentially the role encompasses the following: • • • • • • •

Recording of all financial transactions.

Reconciling those transactions with the bank accounts.

Reconciling the PayPal and Stripe credit card transactions.

Providing a monthly report to the executive committee.

Preparing the annual budget and having it approved at the May executive meeting.

From the 1st July we will be trialling a new accounts system through TidyHQ in lieu of MYOB. Paying any expenses through the ANZ bank accounts - 99% via electronic deposits.

The role comes with complete tuition and ongoing back-up for the right person.

The Treasurer does not have to have accounting knowledge but can demonstrate honesty, attention to detail and an understanding of excel spreadsheets.

ACJC Representative The second position that exists as part of the executive committee and one that Tim has expressed a desire to continue with is that of representing JDCSA on the Australian Council of Jaguar Clubs (ACJC).

The objectives of ACJC are: 1. To be responsible for the rules and broad scale management aspects of the Jaguar Annual National Rally and the related Post Rally Tour.

2. To act as the focal point for the relationship between the Australian Clubs and Jaguar Land Rover Australia (JLRA) or its successor(s), thus providing a communication channel for matters of interest to all the Australian Clubs and to discuss and understand the JLRA position in regard to Dealer relations, Jaguar logos, trademarks and associated intellectual property.

3. To provide a forum for the Australian Clubs to share ideas and information on significant common issues such as Constitutions, the National Rally, legal status, membership fees, Club structures and Club activities.

4. To promote camaraderie between Jaguar enthusiasts.

This council meets (in person or via skype) twice per year (February and August) to discuss a range of issues that are common to all Jaguar Clubs affiliated with ACJC. These include: • Liaising with Jaguar Australia (JLRA) which includes sponsorship.

• Facilitating the Jaguar National Rally including the Concours rules and provide grants to the THE BOTTOM LINE hosting club.

• Sharing ideas amongst one another to further the objectives detailed above.  Consider future issues that might impact on the capacity of the council to deliver on the objects.  Liaise with the clubs through their representatives about events and issues.

General Meeting Minutes

Jaguar Drivers Club of SA General Meeting 1st May 2018 Meeting opened at 7.30pm.

Welcome: President Julian Lugg welcomed all to the meeting. New member Robert Bell was also welcomed.

Robert has an XJRS and Mk 2.

Business Arising from Previous Minutes: Nil.

Membership (Daphne) Three new membership applications for May renewals have been posted. Please post these back to Daphne as soon as possible, with your self-addressed envelope.

Log Books (Dave) Dave will be available at the June and July meetings to process log books for members. Please send them in with your renewal notes. Members are asked to provide a copy of their registration papers with their log books to enable verification of data.

Editor (Dane) Apologies to those members who receive a printed version of the magazine because they have not yet received the April edition. There was a major printing error and this is currently being rectified. They will be posted with the May edition.

Member Welfare: Best wishes to Des Brown following his knee replacement. Condolences were expressed to Roland Donders following the passing of Elly.

The May edition is going to be a bumper as Dane has over 3500 photos to view and then make a decision on the format for this month. He is hoping to have it completed by the end of the week. Please keep your stories about the National Rally rolling in.

President (Julian) National Rally has been hailed a major success. The organising committee are awaiting feedback before preparing a final report.

ACJC (Tim) The executive team will discuss a letter at their next meeting regarding the value of sponsorship and other issues affecting ACJC.

It was great to see so many Jaguars in the McLaren Vale Vintage and Classic, particularly interstate people that had stayed on.

Regalia (Ron): There were a large number of items sold at registration and the display day with some items selling out.

Additional orders are available.

There are items available tonight.

New black straw hats are available $25 each.

September is our Annual General Meeting and all members are asked to think about how they can assist the club. Nominations are to be called for all positions in the coming months, with all elected positions being 12 months only.

Vice President (Phil) “President’s Picnic’ Sunday 14th October at Serafino Winery, McLaren Vale. This is will be a celebratory day for the XJ Series 1 who are celebrating the 50th anniversary and Mk 5’s who are celebrating 70 years since production. The picnic is instead of Jag Day. The restaurant is available, but bookings are essential. BYO food is welcome, but no alcohol to be brought onsite.

Publicity will begin next month. If you are able to assist please speak with Phil.

Secretary (Alan) The club has been advised of a XJ6 Sovereign Series 3 1986 that is for sale in Ceduna. The engine needs some work. Please speak with Julian for more details.

Event Coordinator (Jim & Arcadia) All events are listed on the website – please check this for up to date information.

MSCA (Barry) The GT Championships were held at Tailem Bend a couple of weekends ago. There is still lots of work to be completed out there.

This Sunday is a six hour race at Mallala starting at 8am.

The JDCSA are asked to provide six volunteer flag marshals for 15th July. Please let Barry know if you are able to assist.

Librarian (Tom) Plenty of books and DVD’s available. Also lots of freebie books – come and have a look.

XJ (Bob) – Next meeting is at Shannons on Wednesday 10th May. This Sunday they are travelling in convoy to Victor Harbor, meeting at the Marion Hotel at 8am. They are planning an overnight or day run to Clare and Blyth on 8th and 9th September – see Trevor Norley for details.

Multivalve (Ron) – Next meeting is at Bob and Daphne’s home. Next run is 19th June.

E-Type/ F-Type/ Grand Tourer (Alan) – 3rd Thursday at The Shed.

SS & Daimler (Malcolm) – NTR XK and MK 7,8,9 (Robin) – Run to Balaklava on 20th May. New Business: National Rally: Unfortunately Di and some of the committee cannot be present tonight, but it was agreed that the national rally was a great success.

Comments from club members: “Everyone was so friendly and helpful, with so many volunteers always willing to lend a hand and direct traffic.”

“It was an excellent event with highlights being the biplanes at Goolwa and the experience at Tailem Bend was fantastic.”

It was suggested that we all need to be clear when providing written directions as they are not always the easiest to understand if you are not a local.

Speaking to the interstate people they loved it and were amazed they could see so much in such a short time.

There was a comment that some thought it was too big an event and possibly lacked intimacy but others loved the number of people they met.

“The XK Dinner was a bit cramped.”

“Our first rally and we loved it! So much information about the various cars. Everyone we spoke to had a great time.”

“This rally will be talked about for a long time!”

“Wonderful time, every day.”

“The rally magazine and XK magazine were excellent productions.”

Tim spoke from a financial aspect and whilst figures are still to be finalised, the following has been noted: We budgeted for 80 registrations, but had 153 registrations.

We received $23,300 sponsorship – excellent job Phil.

By utilising TidyHQ we saved approximately $3000 on online credit card fees.

Dane spoke on his experience as coordinator at the National Motor Museum: Excellent feedback from management about the organisation and the number of volunteers. There were excellent visitor numbers on the day, especially

Club Torque considering the weather. There was no damage to the grass, which was appreciated. It was noted that the marquee was really appreciated and well utilised.

Julian advised that there are some placemats available – please see him if you would like one.

Everyone agreed that the committee are to be congratulated on a well organised event.

Resolution: The JDCSA members resolved to pass a vote of sincere thanks and congratulations to Di and Suzanne and all members of the organising committee on their planning and coordination of the 2018 Vines to Sea National Rally. THANK YOU!!

Next National Rally: 29th March to 1st April 2018 in Albury and Wodonga.

Publicity is about to commence for this event.

Business Arising from Previous Minutes: Nil. Member Welfare: Arcadia had a fall 3 weeks ago and has had an extremely difficult time with many complications. She is now at home and on the road to recovery. Ray Offie is off to Melbourne for the next stage of a new prosthetic leg. Peter Thomas has been attacked by a Doberman and has suffered facial injuries. We wish them all a speedy recovery.

President’s Report (Julian): Log books can be processed tonight and at next month’s meeting. Please ensure the front page at the bottom is signed by the owner.

The Annual Dinner is being held on 28th July. Bookings are available online or by phone to Daphne Charman, Roz Holland or Geoff Thomas.

Nominations are being asked for Most Enthusiastic New Member and Club Person of the Year. Please pass any nominations on to a committee member. September is the Annual General Meeting and all positions will be open for nominations.

Tim White has advised he will be retiring as Treasurer this year and the position will be open.

New Business: National Rally: Di briefed meeting on highlights of National Rally and thanked many involved.

A reminder that Social Media is very active; Aussie Jag and Jaguar Enthusiast all giving great feedback on the National Rally.

Next year will be the 50th National Jaguar Rally and will be held in Albury/Wodonga. It will be the more traditional format (29th March to the 1st April 2019).

Five cars met at Broadview and travelled together to Balaklava, while others travelled individually. By 12.00 mid-day there was a wonderful array of Jaguars spanning nearly 70 years on display in Peter and Judy’s lovely garden. Soup was served and then a brief Register meeting began. Robin opened the meeting with thanks to Peter and Judy for hosting us at their place because as well as the garden setting, the run to Balaklava is a good distance to exercise our cars. Robin welcomed Ron and Claire Palmer and Tom and Marj Brindle.

Previous Minutes: Minutes of our meeting held on Wednesday 7 February 2018 had been previously circulated and were accepted as an accurate record.

Club Business: It was noted that the recent National Rally hosted by JDCSA had been a resounding success and financially successful too because attendance numbers were well above budgeted numbers. Final reports on the rally are yet to be presented. There was good representation from SA and from other states in the special events that were part of the rally that celebrated 70 years since the XK was released.

Thousands of photos have been submitted for CM and selections will be spread over the May and June editions.

Saturday, 28 July, Club Annual Dinner Venue is the Glenelg Golf Club and bookings can be made on line or via members of the organising committee. A copy of the flier for the dinner was made available. It was agreed that Robin would arrange to have one table reserved for the Register.

Tuesday 4 September, Club AGM Members noted the date of the AGM. Sunday 14 October, President’s Picnic Flier tabled. This event will also celebrate 50 years since the introduction of the Series one, XJ6.

Membership Renewal and Logbooks: Renewals have been posted and members were reminded to enclose original registration papers and log books as well as a stamped addressed envelope if renewing their historic registration in conjunction with their membership renewal.

Register Business: Past Event, 24 March, Dirt to Diesel at Keith.

Onslow gave a brief report on what was a very popular weekend at Keith. It was noted that accommodation will need to be booked about 6 months ahead if attendance is contemplated in 2019.

Club Torque Future Register Meetings and Events.

There was general discussion about meetings and events in the next few months and it was agreed that:  Register members would have a meal together on Tuesday 3 July in the usual way at the Police Club prior to the Club general meeting where we are rostered to provide supper and ensure that the room is set up.

This means that we will not have a Register meeting on Wed 4 July.  The Wednesday 5 September Register meeting will be at Peter and Ros Hollands’ place. We will need to elect a Register Secretary at that meeting. Details to follow.

23, 24, and 25th October are the dates for a run to Camperdown, Victoria to meet Victorian XK people and in particular the Nixons. Eight couples expressed interest in attending and that info will be passed on to Kaye Perkins.

Various suggestions for events were offered for consideration in August or other months remaining in 2018. The suggestions were visits to: the clipper ship at Port Adelaide, Cummins house, David Roche’s collection in North Adelaide, the Cube At McLaren Vale.

There was brief discussion about how members of the Register can support other members with addressing problems relating to maintenance of our vehicles.

The meeting closed at about 1.00pm and the barbeque was lit. We then enjoyed delicious salads and desserts with the results of our barbequing followed by a pleasant, long afternoon solving all sorts of problems and inspecting the cars on display.

Attention: Please note date has been changed from 5th to 19thAugust, as 5th unavailable on Airfield, due to booked function. Tony will confirm this date later.

Judy Langdon is organising the Monarto run on August 28th. The good news is that the Jag Club will cover the cost of the bus to take us around the zoo. Entrance to Monarto will cost $21.50pp, and lunch will be a roast for $19.50pp.

The next register meeting will be on July 24th at Solitaire Motors.

Club Business: The Annual Dinner Dance will held at the Glenelg Golf Club. It is very easy to access and pay for tickets via the Club website. Tickets can also be printed from there, although this is not necessary as there will be a master-list on the night. Peter has reserved 2 tables for our register, so when you have purchased your tickets please let him know.

Daphne spoke about XK register trip to Clare 8-9th September. All welcome. The highlight will be a visit to the fully restored Blythe cinema. Jaffas and popcorn. There are already 50 booked to go. See Bob Charman or Geoff Thomas if you are interested.

XJ register Christmas event at the German Club is already fully booked. This year’s entertainment will be an hour-long extravaganza of talent!

Our register usually goes away for the October long weekend. Do we have a member who is prepared to organise this year’s trip?

Car Talk:

Register Business: Cats and Cans; start collecting please. The Salvation Army will be present at the President’s Picnic in October.

June 19th lunch run; we will start by meeting for coffee at a café in the eastern suburbs. 9.45am for a 10.30 departure. If you intend to come, please let Lesley know (0437 619 151) by early June. Details will be emailed to all participants a few days before the run.

Tony Human put forward a detailed plan for a suggested run on Sunday 19th August. A Sunday has been chosen so that those members who still work will be able to join in. We will visit Aldinga and Huntfield airstrips, where lots of interesting things will be happening! Lunch will follow at the Beach Hotel, Seaford. Tony will send all the information to Peter to be forwarded to all register members.

Peter B would like to sell his 2004 X-type, 110,000 kms. He recently drove it along the Paris Creek road, and it went like a rocket! Is looking for an XJ8 sedan or “S” type 3 litre.

Daff – S-type is used regularly for work and is going well. Bob – Big Red is still perfect. XJ having rust removed. E-type’s owner will now not return until 2020 (damn!) so Bob will just have to look after it for a little longer.

Tony H – XJ going well.

Peter C – 2016 XJ diesel 23,150kms. Been back to Solitaire twice re. stop/start that only seems to work intermittently. Suspects it could be battery related.

Also has a rattle in the steering that he can hear, but Solitaire can’t. Trish’s 2014 XE 19,500kms and going well.

John C – 1997 X300 3.2litre still beautiful. Sue H drove it around Tailem Bend track.

Ray S – 2010 X-type was driven by Judy in the National Rally. Ray did the motorkhana at the rally and is disappointed that no results have been forthcoming. Took Doug H. around the Tailem Bend track while Doug tried to video it all. Film will have to be expurgated as it is full of expletives!

Des B – 2014 XF twin turbo S 24,000kms. No problems.

Ron P – 2014 XF 3 litre SS 56,500 kms recently did a run to Robe, Mount Gambier of just over 1000kms. 7.5L per 100km. Going nicely.

Tom B – 1994 XJ40 217,000kms. Nothing to report.

Bill B - 2005 S-type 145,000kms. Nothing going wrong at the moment.

Barry B – 2010 XFS twin turbo diesel 53,000kms.

Hasn’t used it since last meeting!

Compact Register 12th June 2018

Opening: David Rogers welcomed members to our dinner at the Cremorne Hotel, Unley. A special welcome to Robert and Angela who are new members and to Hugh and Annette who have been members for a very long time.

Welfare Report: Best wishes and thoughts were extended to Bill and Margaret Browne and Andrew and Milly Costi.

New Business: Daimler Nationals were held in April in the Yarra Valley with some of our members attending. They visited the Healseville Sanctuary, a dry garden which was very interesting and a car museum as well as enjoying the company of other Daimler owners.

Annual Dinner – 28th July at Glenelg Golf Course – members were reminded to book their tickets either online or via Marg or Ros. Let’s get a couple of tables for our register.

President’s Picnic – Sunday 14th October at Serafino Winery McLaren Vale from 10am. This is instead of our annual Jag Day. No BYO alcohol, if you want to have lunch in the restaurant please ensure you book early. There may be picnic hampers available. BYO food or there will be food available for sale. All cars on site by 10am and not to leave before 2pm. All welcome.

Snow and Shine – Saturday 30th June at Marion Shopping Centre The Jag Club will meet on Morphett Road at 5pm and travel together and park together.

This is a good opportunity to promote the club to younger members. All welcome.

National Rally – those members who attended the Jaguar National Rally all agreed it was a great event with special thanks to the organising team. Despite the weather there were approximately 180 cars on display at the National Motor Museum. Everyone appreciated the different format.

2019 National Rally – 29th March to 1st April 2019 in Albury/Wodonga. This will follow the traditional format.

2020 National Rally – Perth. There are a number of people who have expressed interest in attending this event. It is thought that we will drive over and put the cars on the train to come home.

Classic Marque – another bumper issue is due to come out soon. Dane is always looking for stories about your car – the latest updates or restoration or adventures it has had.

JDCSA AGM – 4th September – nominations are being called for all positions. We do need a new treasurer as Tim is stepping down after some years of service – thank you Tim. Tim will provide the incoming treasurer with a good handover and is will to provide training and support.

Log Books and Renewals – all members are reminded that renewals and log books must be completed prior to 30th June. After that your car is not registered and must not be driven on the road. A
