A COMMUNITY AQUATIC CENTER
+
CONCEPTUAL IDEAS
A response to the community Community + response became two strong words in my mind during the design of the aquatic center. Always asking myself “what is my response to this community?”; With this question in mind I designed the Aquatic Center. I believe there is a lot of ways to respond this question. My answer was to create a building environmentally friendlier and generate an attractive outdoor space favorable to the “encounter” of people in the community.
Design Strategies: 1. The building is situated along the Lincoln Hwy. It allows creating a buffer between the road and the new proposed site. 2. Stacking the recreational pool as well the eating/concession/socializing and spectator seating give me a chance to have more free area in the site. This “free area” will become outdoors spaces for the community . 3. Introducing the idea to have four live screens. Three along the hwy and one big screen facing the amphitheater situated in the plaza. The idea behind these screens is to have a tool to express the ideas of the community. 4. Developing the site with green areas and places favorable to the “encounter”.

5. Making the building more environmental friendly with the recycling of energy generated by it.

WHEN DESIGNING THIS COMMUNITY AQUATIC CENTER, I THOUGH ABOUT PEOPLE HOLDING HANDS AND WALKING TOGETHER FOR THEIR COMMUNITIES. THEN I ALSO ASKED MYSELF : WHAT HAVE I DONE TO MY OWN COMMUNITY? MY VOICE JUST SILENT. WHAT HAVE I DONE? WHAT IS MY SERIOUS RESPONSE TO THE COMMUNITY?

THINKING ABOUT PEOPLE CARRYING AN IDEA. ALL COMMUNITY TOGETHER CARRYING AN IDEA. AN EXPRESSION IN THEIR HEARTS OR EVEN IN THEIR T-SHIRTS. THEN I THOUGH ABOUT BIG SCREENS TO REPRESENT “IDEAS”. IDEAS FOR THE COMMUNITY. IDEAS NOT DESIGNED FOR MARKETING, NOT FOR SELLING A PRODUCT, BUT TO EXPRESS PURE IDEAS OF THE COMMUNITY.
