Dr. Mbabuike began his academic career in a prestigious accelerated B.S./M.D. program at City College of New York's Sophie Davis School of Medicine (now CUNY School of Medicine) This required deciding to study medicine after graduating from high school and entering college early in life as a senior high school.

Dr Mbabuike completed his surgical residency training at several esteemed hospitals in the NYC area after graduating from the NYU School of Medicine, including New York Presbyterian Cornell, Westchester Medical Center, Lenox Hill, and Mount Sinai Beth Israel. The group expects that by making these efforts, more Black men will graduate from medical school and succeed in their careers. Dr. Mbabuike is motivated to carry out this essential work because it will help advance equity and equality in the medical industry
Dr. Mbabuike spends a lot of time working and volunteering for BMI but has a few distinct interests He has a strong love for sports and an active lifestyle Before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Dr. Mbabuike played in recreational basketball leagues for over 12 years.
He no longer participates in leisure leagues and now spends more time exercising and watching professional sports. His favorite athletes are LeBron James, the New York Giants, and the New York Knicks He frequently enjoys taking part in physical training, high-intensity workouts, and his favorite at-home activity, spinning sessions on the peloton platform.
