This year has been an interesting year for me. I became the In-depth editor and was pushed, head-first into InDesign. The biggest thing I learned this year was learning how to work Indesign and on top of that, managing to stay on schedule with the newspaper deadline and my other classes. Starting from my first page in the September issue, where I had no clue how to work Indesign. Adamson was kind enough to help me, as in redesign the whole page. From there to now, where I designed the whole December page myself and Adamson, of course, made a few tweaks, I would say that I have learned so much. I have also learned how to use photoshop better, which will help me create better designs for my page next year. As an editor, deadlines are super important. When I was a staff member, I knew that even if I did not get my stuff done, it would impact the newspaper as much. But as an editor, my thing shad to be done or else I would not have any time to finish m page. Deadlines for me are still very hard. This year though, I have turned in thing a little sooner than normal but I have had time to finish the pages. Next year, I am going to continue to work on my things beforehand, which is what helped me a lot. Teamwork is a very big thing for me since I always ask for help from my peers, especially Ryan. Some of the staff members I did not particularly want writing for my page. I know I should have reacted differently and been nicer, which is what I want to work on. I know what it is like being in their shoes but at the same time, it is my page that will not be finished. I am very proud of my articles this semester. I put in a lot of effort in all of my articles, and I think that it shows compared to last year. Knowing how to get the right information and how to quote it properly and what to quote was a struggle for me last year, but this year, I think that I have done a pretty good job. As an editor, sometimes I will see the information that has not been quoted or doesn’t make sense and I understand now why telling the truth in the news and why having ethics is such a big thing. It not only helps you become a better writer in all your classes, but it helps you apply these ethics and be more responsible, reasonable, and reliable.
As a new editor and my second time using InDesign, I feel like I did try my hardest. I stayed late during production days until I was done and try to at least learn a few more steps on InDesign. I would also put a lot of details in my articles and stay up late making edits for my page. December’s issue, for example, was one of the hardest issues for me persona; y since I had to struggle and place things without Adamson guiding me. Even though it was very frustrating, I managed and the page truly shows how much dedication I have for this publication. I felt very down when Adamson redid the September page. I did not feel like I was going to succeed or be a good editor so I waned away from trying to apply more effort into my assignments in this class. I should have still perceived, which is hat I eventually did, sooner and just continued to hall ass like I always do. Next semester, I will finally be more prepared and be able to let my emotions not get the best of me since, I know what my limit and hat is it, and how to create using InDesign. I know now where, when, and how to apply my creative juices. For example on the September issue, I was able to come up with a main picture for my page and it turned out pretty good. I know that if I continue with the routine I currently have going, not only will my grades improve, and have better assignment quality, but my mental health will also improve and thrive.
My best work
One of my best works this semester had to be the one that I did for the Health page in the November issue. This was one of my favorites because it talked about a serious issue that is prevalent in many teens. It was very hard to complete because there are so many types of eating disorders and no one has the same type of eating disorder. Being able to fit the right information without providing too many facts was a challenge as well. The object for this was simple: provide awareness for the disorder but also help inform and provide tips on how to overcome and reach for help without sound like a very boring essay. The first time I logged into the computer and started writing, I decided to restart because it was too much information that can be researched by the reader and it also did not have good quotes. I decided to completely restart and I got better interviews and the article was more cohesive and comprehensible. My favorite thing about the article was the interviews since they provided stories about their own experiences with eating disorders whether it was them or a friend. It gave me time to reflect on my eating habits and made me take into consideration my friend’s and families eating habits. This article helped me open my mind to the disorder and helped me expand my knowledge on the topic as well. The finished product made it on the page, with its own min photo a well. I am very proud of how it turned out since the writing is through but not boing and it has personal experiences that people could relate to.

One of my other favorite works is the article I wrote for Style the October issue. I love leather but I don’t really see many people in Arizona rocking leather unless they are bikers., so why not make a story on that. Leather is so very under appreciated so I loved doing a little spotlight on the fabric. I think that my writing was okay. I interviewed people who I see around school wearing leather. The final result looked pretty nice as well.
Another one of my favorite works for the 2019 publications was the article I did on Swetter. Talking to him was very nice since I was able to get information on how the school works how he does his job, what his jobs really are, and other school news. The article was very easy to write but setting up the interview was the hardest since he is always around. Since the article was very easy to write, I defiantly one of my favorites.
3 The last one of my favorite articles that I wrote was the sidebar for the November issue. Since it was for my page, I tried my hardest to find reliable and true information. Learning about the past is so intriguing so researched about how people paid for health insurance in the past was very illuminating.
