Breakfast at Tess’s

On Christmas morning, my whole family came over to eat breakfast together, before we can open our presents. I woke up, feeling groggy and tired and as I walk into the hall the smell of pancakes and syrup hit me along with sausage and hash browns, that wakes me up immediately my eyes spring wide open and I excitedly run down the hall. Taking in everything I see, I run back to my room and wake up my very cranky sister, she reluctantly gets up, and walks into the hall, getting affected by the amazing smells as well, she is wide awake. My sister is walking around grumbling to everyone while collecting the breakfast on her plate when suddenly my father crashes through the door. Everyone looks up towards him, my father is looking around excitedly, he didn’t realize that breakfast was ready because he was working on something outside, something that would later catch the attention of my entire family for the rest of the day, but in that moment, it was breakfast time. My brother has already scarfed down like three plates of food and is going for his fourth but everyone stops him, by yelling frantically that there needs to be enough food for everyone, he grumbles, places his dish in the sink and begins to look over his kids shoulders at their breakfasts to see if their full yet or not and if he could snatch their leftovers. Once everyone is finished my dad calls us outside and sitting there, in all it’s glory, is a brand new foosball table, we all go crazy. Keep in mind my family is extremely competitive and we dread losing, it’s the worst thing that can happen to a Phillips. I grab one side of the table, my sister grabs the same side and works the middle men, while I’m on the goalie. My brother grabs the opposite side and my other sister grabs the goalie, we all exchange glares, this is war, and the game begins. We all frantically turn the knobs to control our little men and the soccer game, my sister Sarah, on my brothers team screams “I almost got the goal, one more hit and!” The ball slams towards my goal, I move my guy up and bring it down hard on the ball, it sinks in the opposite goal, my brother gets mad and looks to my sister on his team and exclaims, “Cmon! I thought you had it!” She glares at him while my sister Hannah and I revel in our victory.

Self Antalytical Essay

I have acquired many skills while being in yearbook and some of the things I can say I learned are teamwork, organization, dedication, work ethic and communication skills. I learned the meaning of a deadline and how important it is to get stuff done way before so you only have the minimum to do on that actual day. I observed what it’s been like to be in a team and it’s a lot of helping the other person even if it’s not your actual assignment. In order to be apart of something that requires as much hard work as this, you must have dedication and you cannot be less or more dedicated then the person next to you. Actual production skills that I have learned are designing a mod and being able to interview people, put those interviews together and create a story out of them. I got to observe what it takes to get the information you need, I obtained the ability to work quickly as well as efficiently and get things done without needing my team leaders help constantly. In the future when I’m applying for a job or working, I will be able to use these skills to my advantage and showing my future employer how I will benefit him/her in the workplace. If I am working in any corporate job I will have the skills to get things done in a timely manner, and even under a lot of pressure, I will be able to get it done professionally. Working in yearbook means knowing how to get everything done before a set deadline. I learned that deadlines will cause a lot of pressure on people around you which causes a very tense environment. Learning to deal how to be in that environment is huge and makes it a whole lot easier to get the ma jority of your work before it gets close to your deadline. Do all the ma jor work and leave little stuff for deadline night when you don’t feel the pressure of not having a story done or a mod. In the future, I would definitely begin planning out my deadline assignments before the previous deadline is even done and over with. I learned that teamwork is extremely important with journalism and that communicating with your team is a huge deal. If one team member isn’t doing their job properly that gives more work for another which is why checking up on your team is very important. In the future I probably wouldn’t work in team, just because I’ve learned that I work a lot better independently. Though working in a team gives you a lot of opportunity to work with different traits and skill basis that other people obtain. I learned that in journalism, telling the truth is a big deal, especially in the yearbook because that is something people will have with them forever and if you lie in it that takes the sentimentalism out of the yearbook. Plagiarizing can cause very serious problems, including going on your permanent record, possibly getting your instructor terminated and causing the yearbook to look bad in points of professionalism. Being objective means being on time with all of your work and having it done properly, if you do everything half heatedly then it’s not going to come out as interesting for the reader. I was an asset to the staff in a way of getting all my work done and getting it done in a timely matter. The extent of my commitment is I’ve gone to every deadline and I’ve stayed and made sure that everything I had to do is done and it’s done well. I try to help with all the little things including captions and finding pictures for the pages. I ask my team leader what they want me to do next before I’m done with my current obligation. Problems and hardships that I faced this semester is interviewing, and learning how everything is done and what can or cannot be in the yearbook. I learned that I am not a people person when it comes to interviewing but I’ve learned how to put my anxieties behind me and get the job done. My greatest weakness if definitely interviewing and my ability to have creativity, in order to overcome this weakness I learned that interviewing is essential to get the perfect story so I have to put my worries behind me and just get it done, I have to learn how to think outside the box in order to come up with creative idea’s, I worry too much about how it’s getting done instead of what it will look like. In order to overcome the weakness next semester I will be getting all my interviews done in one day as well as coming up with my idea’s for mods and stories.
