This semester was the most I’ve ever pushed creatively with the colors I used and the way I arranged pages for myself and when I helped others. I added my creativity to almost every page in the paper this semester, but I only got to fully design four pages. My Favorite page that I designed was the front cover for the November issue. I loved that cover because its colors popped and worked so well together. The black and yellow from the bus matching the CS Press logo and the blue of the sky was all so complementing together. Of all the pages I designed this semester my least favorite would be the cover for the first issue. Something about how it came together doesn’t satisfy me. Looking back I don’t know why I was thinking it looked good, The picture and main story should have been the only thing on the page. I liked the idea of including images and teases of other stories on the side of the cover but the way I designed it made it look cluttered. If I did again I would choose to have the photo stay where it is but have it run down the entire side it is on and then move the story to the side box where the teasers are. My design skills so far this year have definitely improved from this time last year, but within the last few months I feel I’d already learned almost everything I need to know on Indesign for the paper. My only issue with Indesign is when I’m starting with a blank page I have a creative block on what I want to do. It’s the same thing if I was handed a blank piece of paper and was told to draw anything I want. Once I get that inspiration or idea to go off of I get to f ly through my designs.

Writing This semester I didn’t write as much as I did in the past years mainly because I wanted to try and take more photos than I used to. Out of the few pieces that I wrote so far this year my favorite is the iPhone 13 pro review. I had never done a full out review before and I was excited to do this one because of all the new features that I was hyped about on the new iPhone. This piece wasn’t exactly hard to write, with the only challenge being formatting and making my valuable opinions into words. The story didn’t have any changes from when I first put it in the google drive and when it got printed. I chose to format it based off of a few tech review YouTubers that I have watched in the past. The finished product was a piece that I loved mainly because I got to almost be a “tech reviewer” in a way.

The iPhone 13 pro isn’t that big of an upgrade from previous years, but it has three main upgrades that make the phone for me. The screen is primarily the reason I upgraded this year and that was because of the inclusion of the Pro Motion display. Pro Motion is Apple’s fancy way of saying 120 hertz, this means that the phone’s screen updates 120 times per second making the screen look insanely smooth and feel very responsive, compared to all the previous iPhone’s 60 hertz displays. The notch on the top of the display is smaller than previous years, but the change is so small it is hardly noticeable. Battery life lasts me all day with an average of 5 hours of screen time. Apple markets the phone as having a huge leap in battery life and I can definitely confirm that it does. I charge my phone at night and do not have to worry about charging it again until I am going to sleep. The Camera obviously upgrades every year, but this year it feels significantly better. The wide angle lens is a lot clearer and can get way closer to objects while staying in focus. The new Cinematic mode is a cool new feature, but for me it is mainly a party trick. The zoom goes up to 15x and is super clear because the camera actually zooms that much instead of artificially zooming like SnapChat. Overall I think this year’s iPhone is a very good upgrade and I would definitely recommend it to people with iPhones that are more than two years old.

Leading This year in newspaper, as Editor in Chief, It was my first year leading the class. In the past I had obviously led as an editor, but with my new role this year I had to bring everyone together. The First month/issue didn’t go smoothly with our new staff and editor line up, but after the first month we all came together and started to work more as a team. Bringing everyone together and getting everyone’s respect didn’t come until after the first issue. I think I proved myself after the first issue because of how much help and insight I could give while people were making their pages. I believe it is more important to be respected by your peers than popular with them. In this class I would say I’m more respected because they all have seen what I can do to get the paper created and now value my insights. I love holding the role of Editor in Chief because of the title and the bonuses it could give me later in my life, but also because I like holding the responsibility that comes with it. One of the big challenges I’m facing right now as a leader is leading everywhere in my life. At school I lead within the newspaper and at work I’m a manager and I run my own department. It’s challenging balancing the two responsibilities and finding time to give to myself, a goal of mine is to find that balance and enjoy the rest of my senior year. Our award winning paper isn’t as complicated to make as I thought it would be. Luckily our process has already been perfected from years past.

Winter sports teams set goals for new season Boys Basketball

Girls Basketball

The boys basketball team looks to defend their regional title as well as work to better themselves as a team.

The girls basketball team hopes to repeat their efforts from a season ago, when they were 10-0 in conference play and 15-4 overall.

The boys soccer team has started the season in a winning fashion, winning their first game against Williams Field, 4-0.

“This team has so much talent, we just need to finish games,” said Kaitlyn Elsholz, guard.

“The most important thing for us is to play as a team. We have great talent on the team, we just need to work on getting the players to work together,” said Tandehl Collentine, the Athletic Director .

“Our goals this season are: 1. Be the best version of ourselves, and 2. Defend our region championship,” said Zach Washut, boys basketball head coach. “We are excited for the upcoming Silent night game on December 14. Hopefully, the students come out like crazy in their ugly Xmas sweaters and Santa gear.”

Boys Soccer

Girls Soccer

The girls soccer team won their first game against Williams Field. “The goal for the team is to make it to the playoffs this season,” said Collentine. “There are girls coming in from different clubs, so the team will definitely need to focus on working as one.”
