Did You Know?? Facts & Humor Meeting the Easter Bunny On Easter morn at early dawn before the cocks were crowing, I met a bob-tail bunnykin and asked where he was going. ”Tis in the house and out the house a-tipsy, tipsy-toeing, ‘Tis round the house and ‘bout the house a lightly I am going.” ”But what is that of every hue you carry in your basket?” “Tis eggs of gold and eggs of blue; I wonder that you ask it. ”Tis chocolate eggs and bonbon eggs and eggs of red and gray, For every child in every house on bunny Easter Day. ”He perked his ears and winked his eye and twitched his little nose; He shook his tail - what tail he had and stood up on his toes. ”I must be gone before the sun; the east is growing gray; “Tis almost time for bells to chime.” So he hippety-hopped away. HAPPY EASTER!!!!!! Facts: 70% of Easter Candy purchased is chocolate. 76% of Americans think the ears of a chocolate bunny should be the first eaten. The first story of a rabbit ( later named the “Easter Bunny”) hiding eggs in a garden was published in 1680. “The White House Easter Egg Roll” event has been celebrated by the President of the United States and their families since 1878. Easter is the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ in the Christian Religion. Eggs have been seen as ancient symbol of fertility, while spring time is considered to bring new life and rebirth. Americans spend $1.9 billion on Easter Candy. That’s the second biggest candy holiday after Halloween.

Health Awareness Happy Anniversary, We Made It Rick Schneider, FairHoPe Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc.

The man had been on FairHoPe Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.’s service for several months. He and his wife were quietly anticipating their wedding anniversary but recently his illness wasn’t cooperating. In the early part of the week his health began to decline and it was decided to bring him into The Pickering House to give him some extra attention. His FairHoPe nurse knew how important this anniversary was to the couple and it was hoped that the extra attention afforded at The Pickering House would enable him to live to celebrate his anniversary with his lifelong friend and companion. The man had always been adamant that he wanted to die at home, although in this situation conventional wisdom dictated that he go to The Pickering House. Hopefully, he would stay for just a few days until he stabilized then return home.

it.” It was obviously not the time to have cake, but he didn’t know what else to say. Anyone who has entered a home when someone is preparing to cross to the Other Side is keenly aware of the spiritually charged atmosphere. Time stands still; there is only sacred silence. The family was holding a vigil in the bedroom and his wife was sitting at his bedside. Chris stayed a few minutes then left. Just before midnight, the wife quietly went to the kitchen, cut a small piece of cake, placed it on a plate and returned to her love’s bedside. In the room there were a few sniffles. The only movement was someone occasionally wiping a tear. With the wall clock tolling midnight, his wife scooped a bit of icing on her finger and slowly, tenderly wiped just a little on his lip. “Happy Anniversary, darling, we made it.”, then gently kissed him. With a faint smile he looked at her, looked up, and was gone. The couple celebrated their anniversary, their way…on their anniversary day. That is what FairHoPe Hospice does.

Care where you need it, when you need it. Choose

On Thursday it looked like he might not make it. Their 58th wedding anniversary was on Sunday. Our Kitchen Manager, Linda, was baking a gorgeous wedding anniversary cake figuring that they would celebrate the anniversary at The Pickering House.

FairHoPe Hospice & Palliative Care.

The patient was declining and it looked like his Hour may be approaching. He would probably die at The Pickering House. Yet, his wife knew that he wanted to be in the warmth and familiarity of his own home. Our patient’s desires always come first, so on Saturday afternoon it was decided that he would be transported home to fulfill his wish.

Linda finished the anniversary cake about an hour after the patient was taken home. As luck would have it that one of our volunteers, Chris, dropped by The Pickering House to visit a different patient. The cook mentioned her dilemma of having the anniversary cake but no way to deliver it. Chris commented that it was a coincidence that it was his anniversary on Sunday, as well. Chris gingerly put the cake in his car and left to make the all-important delivery. After he was gone, Linda decided to bake a cake for Chris and his bride of over 30 years. She knew that two couples were being blessed on this anniversary. As Chris was driving over on his cake-mission-of-mercy he got to thinking of all of the wonderful things that he has been involved with as a volunteer. So many things that seemed insignificant at the time but were overwhelmingly important to the recipient. All were spur of the moment occurrences. And very few of these situations were covered in his volunteer training. In fact, delivering anniversary cakes wasn’t even mentioned. He smiled. It was early evening when Chris pulled into the driveway. Luckily the cake was still in one piece. The couple’s daughter met Chris when he got out of his car. Placing her hand on his arm she softly said, “Dad’s not doing very well.” “How about if I bring the cake in and let your Mom admire
