FLOAT
Project Brief
Challenge A design for a personal floatation device is needed to maximize comfort and ergonomics for the experienced kayaker.

Research
Unawareness of Adjustability
Brighter colors preferred Zipper failure Strap irritation
Front attachments inhibiting
Description
Several kayakers were viewed and interviewed, and many PFDs were tested. Several issues and insights were discovered through the process.
Sketching
!"#$%&'(&)* Several pages of sketches were done using a broad range of inspiration, from basketball jerseys to baseball chest padding.
!"#$%&'()"*#
Validation Description
The sketches were refined into three Illustrator concepts. After further development and 3D sketching, the designs were mixed and finalized.

Color chosen based on visibility, ocean pallettes, and current sporting trends
Float increases comfort and ergonomics with the use of a single strap system in one location, air flow back padding, and an overlap design.
BALANCE 2 Week Project Spring 2011
BALANCE
Project Brief
Challenge A design for a Tape dispenser is needed that can be displayed to add intrique to the desk, while still being fully functional.
+
Sketching
Description
Inspiration: form studies
Several pages of sketches were done using inspiration from form studies, as well as from a balancing tea cup and wine bottle holder.
BALANCE
flap keeps tape from sliding off
How It Works To change rolls, simply lift and twist tape off of aluminum arm Tape rips on toothed aluminum edge
tape rolls securely on aluminum arm
Description
Balance is a fully functional tape dispenser. It sits securely on its base and falls just before the tape roll runs out, indicating a new roll is needed.

Materials
Materials: Rosewood, aluminum These materials were chosen to acheive contrast both in color and warmth, using warm organic and cold inorganic material
COOLING BLANKET 5 Week Project - Spring 2012 Design for the other 90%
COOLINGB
B
Project Brief
Challenge Roughly one third of the world’s food is lost or wasted. In developing countries, this occurs before it even gets to the market. Farmers in Northern Sudan are in need of a portable cooling device that will keep produce fresh on the journey to the market, maximizing produce lifespan and minimizing food waste.
Research
Description
Research was done into the existing technologies. These included cooling clay pots and charcoal cooling that use evaporation to cool, much like sweat.
Sketching
Description
After research, our group sketched several ideas and finally decided to simplify the cooling system into a blanket.
3D Modeling
Description
3D models were created using Rhino. We experimented with different types of attachment systems and outer maerials.
COOLINGBLANKET Blanket can be used in all applications in Sudan
Sinches closed using cord around the sides
Holds 3 crates of vegetables
Components Layers are meshed and allow for complete airflow, evaporating the water more efficiently
Ground Charcoal stores and holds water
Water Irrigation Piping drips water into charcoal to replentish
Spun nylon fabric contains water and minimizes dripping
Components
Drip piping running through the blanket connects to a water bottle, which if squeezed will fill the blanket with water The water bottle fits securely in a pouch located next to the connection
