welcome
to a New Year!
The bustling Christmas season has passed, and I'm not sure about you, but I'm ready for a little rest & relaxation after all the festivities. I delight at the prospect of welcoming the serenity of a quiet winter's day. I am hopeful that we'll soon have a good, old-fashioned snowfall or two, which will blanket the mountains outside my window and allow my little one and me to frolic about, making snow angels and enjoying the beauty of a world riello photo: Jen Fa that resembles a Thomas Kinkade painting for a few hours at least. If you find yourself snowbound this winter, or you just want to get pleasantly lost for an hour or two, my wish is that you will find inspiration in this issue to help you pass the time with joy. We have gathered projects and recipes with the intent to make this your most romantic Valentine's Day yet. From baking to crafting, sewing to decorating, there is sure to be something to make you and your sweetheart happy. Speaking of happy, if you yearn for happy endings as much as I do, I hope you will enjoy the fantastical "Storybook Love" article on page 50. This photo shoot was such a pleasure to create and photograph for you, dear reader. Filled with whimsical projects and fairy-tale touches, it is a bibliophile's Wonderland. If you're in the mood to travel a bit further afield, I invite you to pack your virtual bags and join me as we journey to Merry Old England and visit the noble homes of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall. I was so blessed to be granted access to these magnificent manors recently, and I am eager to share with you the beauty that I found in these stately homes, as well as a quaint cottage and shop nestled nearby. Additionally, we sit down for a chat with Susan Branch, who shares her art and her own English adventures while writing her latest bestseller: A Fine Romance. There is also a bit of history and heritage to be discovered about monograms amongst these pages. So without further blather, I invite you to turn the page...

O! To stroll again on Dorset's rugged moor
Of tranquil memories, vivid and so pure Where endless precious hours were often spent And not one isolated moment did I lament Those momentary things inconsequential But with each minute, view God's beauty — quintessential. Memories of Winter on a Dorset Moor by Harry E. Wheeler

How would you spend your ideal Valentine's Day?

I love that Valentine's Day gives us an excuse to say "I love you." But I believe that it should be celebrated every day, and therefore, being in my husband's arms is the perfect way to celebrate Valentine's Day for me.
I would craft hearts and love into each and every thing I did that day, from breakfast to dinner and everything in between.
A weekend getaway – completely planned by my husband. Babysitter lined up, hotel booked, chocolates and flowers waiting in the room, reservations at a grand restaurant. And all I have to do is pack a bag and climb in the car!! THAT would be my ideal Valentine!!

I'm terrible clichĂŠ ...Candlelight dinner ...maybe, grilled steaks and something creamy, dreamy & chocolate for dessert ...maybe Chocolate Mousse Pie. And at our age there is always talk of Valentine's Days past and how divinely blessed we are to be spending another one together...
I'm pretty much a homebody so my ideal Valentine's Day would be a quiet night at home cooking dinner together, then sharing a glass of red wine in front of a cozy fire.
A special brunch with our children, as we shower them with LOVE and share a special gift for each child, that symbolizes our deep love for them. A romantic evening dinner with my husband as we reminisce on the Love we have shared in the days gone by and then share our hearts' desires for the days ahead.

I would spend the day in Paris with my sweetheart. We would stroll, sip and dream, arm in arm, through the City of Love.
I do love chocolate and candlelight, but I think my ideal Valentine's Day would involve a mystery train trip to an unknown (but beautiful) destination, with my love beside me and holding my hand. There is something so romantic about a train and an unbidden journey!
In someplace south of the border, next to some sparkling blue water and my man. :)

What started out as a tradition with my husband...I look forward to a "C&C" (crab & champagne) dinner at home. Now it's a family tradition with my son and another "C" (candles).
I think a good start would be if I could convince my husband to sit with me and watch the movie Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. He cringes, moans and swiftly exits the room whenever it comes on TV, but I could watch that movie a million times.
I would spend my ideal Valentines Day at home, and I would cook a big surprise meal for my partner and watch a romantic movie and snuggle up on the sofa.
