game week activities While the McDonald’s All American® Games showcase the talents of the top high school basketball players before a national audience, it also provides these players with other unique experiences. Here are highlights of activities the players will enjoy during Game Week: Ronald McDonald House® Visit: Each player will have the experience of a lifetime before the McDonald’s All American Games tip off on March 28. The boys and girls teams will visit the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood to get an understanding of the true meaning of the Games by spending time with the families and children that live in the houses. Players gain a better understanding of why this Game is so important by giving back to others and helping to put a smile on many faces. Proceeds from the 2012 Games will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. POWERADE® Jam Fest: Always a major attraction during Game Week, the POWERADE Jam Fest will take place Monday, March 26, on the campus of the University of Chicago. The event enables select McDonald’s All Americans to show off some of their best tricks and talents to a panel of celebrity judges and national TV audience in the Skills, Three-Point and Slam Dunk competitions. Awards Banquet: During the annual Awards Banquet, each player is recognized for being named a McDonald’s All American and presented with a commemorative ring. During the evening, The Morgan Wootten McDonald’s Player of the Year award is given to the top male and female players who exemplify excellence on and off the court. The emcee for the 2012 Awards Banquet will be Ryan Baker.

history of the games In 1977, McDonald’s® selected the best high school basketball players in the country and named them to the first McDonald’s All American® High School Team. The Team competed in the Capital Classic Game against the best players in the Maryland-D.C.-Virginia area. Then, in 1978, just one year later, McDonald’s launched its own all-star high school game – the McDonald’s All American High School Basketball Game®, featuring an East team and a West team of the best high school boy’s players in the country. It was the first national high school basketball all-star game. The Inaugural Game was played in 1978 before a crowd of more than 13,000 at The Spectrum in Philadelphia Now, in 2012, McDonald’s will host the 35th annual Boys Game and the 11th annual Girls Game. Both games take place at the United Center in Chicago, Ill. on March 28, 2012. The McDonald’s All American Basketball Game distinguishes itself from other all-star games by raising funds for Ronald McDonald House ®
Charities ® (RMHC ), with proceeds from every game going directly to local RMHC Chapters and their programs—which may include a Ronald McDonald House®, Ronald McDonald Family Room®, and a Ronald McDonald Care Mobile®. Millions of dollars have been raised for RMHC since the Game was first played in 1978.
