MISSION To promote the arts and sciences on Long Beach Island and in the surrounding communities by enlightening, educating, and stimulating thought and discussion about current trends in the arts and sciences and by providing broad educational and cultural programs for all ages.

CONTACT Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences 120 Long Beach Blvd. Loveladies, NJ 08008 Phone: 609.494.1241 Fax: 609.494.0662 www.lbifoundation.org

LBI F UNDATION HISTORY

Founded in 1948 by Boris Blai, the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences (LBIF) is an outstanding community cultural facility. Dr. Blai, a student of sculptor Auguste Rodin and founding dean of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, envisioned a facility that would foster individuals and their talents. The LBIF has continued this vision by offering thousands of classes, workshops, exhibitions, and educational programs to the community. Since its first season, the LBIF has committed itself to the enhancement of the creative arts and the physical sciences, and though it began as a seasonal operation, the LBIF has grown into a year-round organization providing a place for learning, free expression, and the exchange of ideas and understanding. The LBIF invites all visitors and residents to participate in the many programs and activities offered in its 65th summer on LBI!

LBI F UNDATION ART

EXHIBITIONS The LBIF gallery hosts free exhibitions year-round to enable arts education, introduction to new media, and stimulation for the mind and senses. Exhibits range from internationally known artists working in a wide range of media to community based shows highlighting the work of the talented local community and its artists. Many LBIF exhibitions include artwork for sale. Works for sale are indicated on labels and can be purchased through the main office. CRAFT GALLERY Session One: Friday, May 10 – Wednesday, July 24 Sponsored by Sandi and Tony Kosinski Session Two: Tuesday, July 30 – Monday, September 30 Sponsored by Fulton Bank of New Jersey From June through September, the LBIF sponsors a gallery featuring fine contemporary handmade crafts. Ceramics, glass, jewelry, metalwork, basketry, wood, fiber, and other fine craft media will be shown. The exhibition will be spilt into two sessions: June/July and August/September. Artists and craft persons are invited to apply for our 2013/14 sales seasons. CLAY DIVERGE UNITED Friday, May 17 – Monday, June 17 Reception: Sunday, May 26 5:00 – 7:00pm Sponsored by Nina and Dan Gross Critics will argue there is a separation in the ceramic art spectrum: conceptual sculpture and functional pottery. CLAY DIVERGE UNITED mends this divide and highlights artists that work in both of these areas of the ceramic world. By showing these works side by side, viewers will be able to compare these seemingly opposing viewpoints in this unique exhibition. STREET WISE Friday, June 21 – Tuesday, July 16 Reception: Sunday, July 7 5:00 – 7:00pm Sponsored by Maria and Bernie Siskin Often when we think of street art our thoughts are dominated by images of colorfully decorated old boxcars and dilapidated city buildings. For this exhibition, the LBIF will harness this rebellious method of expression through inviting street artists from the tri-state area to bring their artistic expression into the gallery. 15
