5. Gettysburg, PA. 8. Chicago, IL. This city is famous for two things: the pivotal Civil War battle that happened here and the ghosts of soldiers who fought in this battle. Many buildings that now serve as office buildings or even homes did dual duty during those bloody July days, becoming command centers and hospitals. You can walk around town and see bullets and artillery rounds lodged in buildings. Insider Tip: If you’re looking for a good scare. Stop into the Ott House for a few cocktails and then go on the famous ghost tour around the battlefield.
A more urban Midwest destination that also features great Halloween options for visitors is Chicago. Check out the events at Navy Pier, which include a haunted house and a “carnival of curiosities”. Check out the haunted ships, the Six Flags Great America Halloween celebration and the pumpkin patches around the city. Check it all out!
9. Bisbee, AZ.
This small historic town is home to hotels that are reported to be haunted. It’s a charming little getaway with a bit of a spooky side to it. Explore old copper mines, take a day trip to the historic Old West town of Tombstone and go pumpkin picking at nearby farms. This is the perfect getaway for adults looking to have a halloween weekend without the kids.
6. San Fransisco, CA.
The city is home to the famous Alcatrez prison, known for it’s rough conditions and even rougher guests. The city is also home to the haunted Oakland bridge that stretches from San Fran to Oakland. Ghosts are said to running with the speed of the cars on the bridges lower deck. Insider Tip: Sign up to go on the ghost hunt where you grab some paranormal gear and hunt down the city’s ghosts!
7. Anoka, Minn.
10. Tampa, FL.
This isn’t a destination that a lot of people know about but it’s one that does come alive around Halloween. That’s because this little Midwest town has decided to make its claim to fame by becoming the Halloween Capital of the World. The entire month of October is filled with Halloween related events including Halloween food festivals, parades and a big jack-o-lantern contest.
Tampa’s historic Latin district, Ybor City, lends 29 of its city blocks to a Halloween bash with flavor. It starts with the GuavaEve Masquerade Ball, but the real fun takes place the next day. Over 100,000 costumed freaks delight in a costume parade contest, live music and a salivating cook-off.

DAME DU JOUR Laura Graham debuts her ecelectic jewelry pieces that show off her sophisticated art deco style, and shared with us about her experience and inspirations. She’s worked in design and development with influential designers such as House of Waris and collaborated with top industry teams from DeBeers and Forevermark Diamonds. Many opportunities are on the horizon for this talented lady! By Chelsea Leigh CL: How would you describe the aesthetic of your work? LG: If I had to pick one word to describe my aesthetic it would be art deco -actually thats two words- I love the bold graphic shapes accented by subtle intricate details.
CL:
How do you think your time spent at House of Waris influenced your own designs?
LG: My experience with House of Waris has been invaluable on so many levels. Working
with Waris one on one is something that has helped me grow not only as a jewelry designer, but as a person as well. Through working with him I definitely gained some insight to how the jewelry industry works and its relationship to fashion. The craftsmanship of his jewelry is impeccable, and considering that it is all made by hand, I was really inspired me to be more conscious of my craftsmanship as well. I also learned a lot about collaboration and the incredible work that can come from talented artists and designers working together.
CL:
What’s your latest inspiration? (Maybe mention Angie’s collection on top of what is inspiring you at the moment!)
LG:
At the moment, ITS ALL ABOUT FRUIT! At my house we eat (literally), sleep, and breath fruit! I am collaborating with my roommate and friend Angelique Matthews on her senior fashion collection which is inspired by Carmen Miranda a.k.a The Lady in the Tutti Fruiti Hat. I’m making four pieces to go with her collection and they are over the top, fun, and colorful!
CL: If I designed jewelry I would have a problem only designing things for myself...Anything you’ve done lately with youin mind? Or any pieces that particularly describe you?
LG: It is so hard to design for yourself while you’re in school, with all of the project re-
quirements and time limitations…It starts out awesome and you love what you’re about to make and then by the time you’re finished and you’ve been awake for 3 days, have stitches in your hand, and are missing fingernails, the last thing you want to do is throw on your necklace and head downtown for a night out…I’ve literally been mad at a piece of jewelry before… BUT after a few days you get over it... I have been able to make a few pieces that I love and that really speak to who I am as a designer and a maker. My two favorite pieces are my Deco earrings and my View From Above necklace. The shapes and the details in both of these pieces are things that I have always been drawn to. The more comfortable you get as a designer and with your fabrication skills, you begin to understand how it all works and how to actually make things that you like…and when you’re doing what you love the end result is ALWAYS better!

R
ich in History and architecturally splendid, the Queen Victoria Building occupies an entire block on Sydney’s George Street, and has over 180 of Sydney’s finest fashion boutiques. The grand building, built in the 1890s was erected as a Municipal Market on the scale of a Cathedral. The QVB was beautifully restored and re-opened in 1986, and quickly became Sydney’s most popular and prestigious shopping centre. The QVB has some of Australia’s favorite stores, including Country Road and Camper as well as art, collectibles and antique shops. There is also the Strand Arcade which is the destination for Australian talent. Check out Sydney Central Plaza and the slick Westfield Sydney which has designer brands, high-street trends and European labels. It has four floors of fashion, two floors of dining and a hand picked selction of local design talent. The best part about shopping in Sydney is that even though you are in a building, you don’t feel like you are walking in the mall, but instead a beautiful road lined with boutiques. - JENI CARMICHAEL

STAY: Love nEst tucked away down a back laneway. You will have to forgive the cabbie when he needs a GPS to find it. Quite possibly once of Sydneys most underrated botique hotel thanks to its stylish rooms and imbeccable service. DAY TRIP: Begin at the Circular Quay and get a closeup at the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. You can also see a restored 1930s building known as the Museu of Contemporary Art and the Customs House Library. The Museum of Sydney is set behind a starkly beautiful art installation that marks initial contact between the British colonizers and the Cadigal people, the area’s first Australians.
DO: After shopping and before lunch visit the Australian Museum, established in 1827, it is the country’s first museum featuring exstensive collections of natural science and artifacts. For night entertainment visit Sydney’s Slide. This is the most unique dinner and show venue with weekly cabaret shows and the industrey’s finest talents. EAT: Try out the Bambini trust Cafe. This is an old school euro wine bar and restaurant for grown-ups. It is located opposite Hyde Park. Taste the urrowang Chicken Liver or the Iberico Jamon. Pair it with Galway Pipe Port from none other than Australia and enjoy the dark hidden gem atmosphere. -JENI CARMICHAEL

VINTAGE LOVERS, UNITE!
As the rise of e-commerce has gained increasing momentum, the vintage industry is now discovering new outlets in which to sell lost and forgotten treasures to it’s ever-enthusiastic consumer By Chelsea Leigh With the creation of e-commerce sites offering exclusively vintage garments and other e-commerce retailers adding a section to their site, fading are the days when the consumer has to step inside the stuffy, museum-like brick and mortar stores that exude the unmistakable fragrance of decaying moth balls. As old as it may sound, the consumers that treasure “the good old days” are now demanding a modern twist on their never-ending search for the next most-coveted piece. The cycle of “everything old again is new” is now taking a wider approach, reaching audiences that only wish to have access, and time, to visit vintage stores. By offering this beloved industry online, are the original hunters feeling as though it’s a bit of a cop out? Truly, much of the excitement in finding vintage is hunting for hours while the little voice inside your head is saying, “You’re wasting your time, that vintage Alaia dress will never be here!” The O.H.’s of vintage (“Original Hunters” that is) may have differing opinions on the matter, but one thing’s for sure, the interest of vintage fashion adding dimension to a wardrobe is hotter than ever. In a time when individuality is key, possessing a sense of nostalgia behind a tangible garment is the way to get ahead. The “time poor” are nearly fainting with excitement.
Consumers are willing to pay more for certain items based on exclusivity and quality of traditional pieces, but above all, the convenience factor. You can’t beat having a buyer do all the work for you, when all you have to do is browse and click. Vintage items nearly sell themselves as the little voice arises again, “You’ll never find a beaded handbag dating back to the 1900s again, it’s going to break your heart if you come back and it’s gone!” ELLE 36 www.elle.com

VINTAGE ISN’T A THING OF THE PAST (From top) Silver in Decades boutique; 1st Dibs homepage; Vintage styles on FW runways
One of the first on the scene to introduce vintage in a public way, Cameron Silver, owner and founder of Decades in Los Angeles in 1997 and now the star of Bravo’s Dukes of Melrose, shed light on the vintage world by dressing celebrities for major red-carpet appearances, including the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards. Named one of Time Magazine's "25 Most Influential Names and Faces in Fashion" in 2002, Cameron has also written for publications including Harper's Bazaar, C Magazine and in 2012, his book DECADES: A Century of Fashion was published. Silver remained confident since his beginnings that the vintage industry is still something to invest in: “Vintage is desirable because it is fashion with history. It is one of a kind and in a world where everything is ubiquitous, it gives you something that no one else can have." You can shop the Decade vintage and modern clothing from home at www.shopdecadesinc. com.
Not satisfied yet? Shop all of these one-of-a-kind sites conveniently at Elle.com!
For retailers, the vintage industry offers a stable and secure merchandise assortment, as well as a way to express their own taste and style. Vintage retailers often develop a more loyal customer base with consumers looking for businesses that embody “the handpicked quality.” Etsy and Ebay were amongst the first companies to naturally offer the “oh-so-individualist” variety of personal items for resale. Many new companies such as 1stDibs, Pink Clouds, and Shop Hers have recently jumped on the vintage e-commerce bandwagon. Refashioner is one of the more unique approaches towards this newly-found online industry, in which they add an emotional tie to the items that vintage sellers are wishing to “hautecycle” such as, “Great grandmother’s wedding dress” or “Grandfather’s pocket watch from World War II.” New to the vintage market? Try Byronesque for a precisely curated approach to buying pieces done right the first time around. Looking for vintage accessories for the home? ELLE INTEL DEAP VALLY This hard-rocking duo are the next big thing. Los Angeles based Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards have what it takes to rock-n-roll all the way to the top.
Though unique in their own sound, you can file them next to the likes of the White Stripes, the Black Keys, and even Led Zeppelin. Deap Vally impressively combines a rock-hard grit, with an all girl sound making each song a classic. If you’re in the mood to rock, listen to their hit, “Gonna Make my Own Money.” Troy channels Janis Joplin and is heaven for rock lovers. And if you’re feeling a little more emotional, turn on, “End of the World,” and soak in the sound of the guitar. It is safe to say that Deap Vally’s much anticipated album did not disappoint. This female duo is dynamic and well on their way.
They have been around for a while, but they gained notoriety this past April when they performed in the Mojave tent at the Coachella Valley Music Festival. Using the alias “Starbuck,” David (Vince Vaughn), finds out that he has fathered more than 530 children due to his sperm donations 20 years prior. When a large group of them petition the sperm bank to reveal his identity, David has to decide whether to come forward or not. Simultaneously, his pregnant girlfriend, Emma (Colbie Smulders), is deciding whether or not he would make a good father to their own child. The story follows Vaughn’s character as he attempts to rise from the depths of being a classic underachiever to the father that he wants to become. Chris Pratt plays a supporting role as Vaughn’s best friend and steals the scenes as the comedic relief. Also in a supporting role, Britt Robertson, as Smulders pal.

From Scott Cooper, the writer of the acclaimed film, Crazy Heart, comes his next gripping drama, “Out of the Furnace.” The story follows Russell (Christian Bale) and his brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) who live in the rust belt of the Northeast and dream of better lives. When Russell ends up in prison and Rodney is lured into a ruthless crime ring, the two have to decide between freedom and justice. The film includes other big name stars, such as Woody Harrelson, Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe, Sam Shepard, and Zoe Saldana. This thriller is just in time for the spooky Halloween season.

GEORGE IS BACK IN GRAVITY We haven’t seen him since 2011’s, The Descendents, but George Clooney is back on the big screen with Gravity (October 4, 2013). And this time he’s in 3D. The story follows Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) who is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, catastrophic events take place. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. Hope looks dead for these two, who are gasping for the fleeting oxygen that they have left. Gravity is a test to both Bullock and Clooney’s acting chops, as they are laregly the only two characters in the movie, and neither one disappoints. Both actors have been staying lowkey for the past year or two and it seems that is just wanted they needed in order to put on stellar performances. The film is from the same director who brought us Children of Men, but it stands to be more of a mainstream hit. Movie buffs loved Children of Men, but it was not a commercial favorite. Gravity, which is chalk full of visual effects is definitely worth the trip to outerspace. -EMILY L. WILLIAMSON

OLDBOY October 11, 2013 Elizabeth Olsen has proven that she is the most talented in the acting department of the Olsen family and she is proving that once again in her latest film, Oldboy. Oldboy tells the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is inexplicably kidnapped and held captive for 20 years. When he is abrubtly released, he goes on an obsessive quest to find out who did this to him and why, enlisting the help of a young social worker (Olsen) before he eventually tracks down an ambiguous man (Sharlto Copley) who may have all the answers.
CARRIE October 18, 2013 Just in time for Halloween, the remake of the classic horror film, Carrie hits theaters on the 18th. The film stars Chloe Grace Moretz as the abused high school girl, Carrie, and Julianne Moore as Carrie’s strict Christian mother. With the talented Moretz as Carrie, the movie has the potential to live up to the 1976 adaptation of the Stephen King novel. Also in the film is Judy Greer, playing another one of her quintessential supporting roles, as Carrie’s supportive teacher.

HATS OFF TO JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT He has been in what seems like every major movie in the last 2 or 3 years and this time not only does he star in Don Jon, Joseph GordonLevitt wrote and directed the film as well, which hits theaters October 18th. The film follows the character of Jon Martello (Gordon-Levitt), who is a modern day Don Juan. His friends gave him this nickname because of his ability to hook up with “10’s” every night without fail. But his addiction to pornography leaves Jon dissatisfied with life, which leads to his quest to find a more satisfying relationship beyond his empty one night stands. Along the way he meets Barbara (Scarlett Johanson) and Esther (Julianne Moore), who help him see the bigger picture. Also, a surprising appearance from Tony Danza as Jon’s father. Gordon-Levitt made his directorial debut at Sundance earlier this year with this film, but at the time it was titled, Don Jon’s Addiction. He decided to change the title of the film to simply Don Jon because he felt that the title was creating confusion over what the film is actually about. Having the word addiction in the title creates the assumption that the movie is about pornography and sex addiction, when it is actually a comedy that explores the relationships between men and women in today’s society. The film is very funny and it doesn’t hurt watching Joseph GordonLevitt pump iron with his shirt off. -EMILY L. WILLIAMSON

She gave us Eat, Pray, Love and now Elizabeth Gilbert is back with The Signature of All Things (October 1)
In The Signature of All Things, Gilbert goes back to fiction writing in this story of love that follows the Whittaker family through much of the 18th and 19th centuries. The novel follows the fortunes of the extraordinary Whittakers, as led by the enterprising Henry Whittaker—a poor-born Englishman who makes a great fortune in the South American quinine trade, eventually becoming the richest man in Philadelphia. Born in 1800, Henry’s brilliant daughter, Alma, who inherits both her father’s money and his mind, ultimately becomes a botanist of considerable gifts herself. As Alma’s research takes her deeper into the mysteries of evolution, she falls in love with a man named Ambrose Pike who makes incomparable paintings of orchids and who draws her in the exact opposite direction—into the realm of the spiritual, the divine, and the magical. Though they are so different, this becomes a love story between Alma and Ambrose as they discover life together. The Signature of All Things glides across the globe—from London to Peru to Philadelphia to Tahiti to Amsterdam, and more. Along the way, the story is brought to life with unforgettable characters: missionaries, abolitionists, adventurers, astronomers, sea captains, geniuses, and a few insane. With Alma’s unrelenting desire to understand the workings of the world during the amazing time of the Industrial Revolution, the novel is hard to put down. Gilbert delivers another great read in her exploration back to her fiction writing roots.
QUEENS OF SUNNYSIDE
A dazzing novel about two women in an epic, yet intimate, family journey The novel follows two extraordinary women, Rose Zimmer and her daughter Miriam who take different paths from their home of Sunnyside, Queens. Rose is deemed the “red queen of Sunnyside,” as she is a Communist and mercurial tyrant who terrorizes her neighborhood and her family with the ferocity of her personality and the absolutism of her beliefs. Her willful daughter Miriam is equally as passionate in her own beliefs, but they are of opposing views from her Mother’s all-American radical ones. Miriam flees the suffocating influence of her Mother’s tyranny and finds refuge in the heart of Greenwich Village during the counterculture and the Age of Aquarius. Both women impact and capture the hearts of the men in their life as the story travels through three generations. Rose enchains her aristocratic German Jewish husband Albert, her chess hustling nephew Lenny, and Cicero, the son of her black cop lover. While Miriam makes a beautiful family with the Irish folksinger, Tommy Gogan and their son Sergius. As the decades pass— from the parlor communism of the ’30s, McCarthyism, the civil rights movement, ragged ’70s communes, the romanticization of the Sandinistas, up to the Occupy movement of the moment—we come to understand through Lethem’s extraordinarily vivid storytelling that the personal may be political, but the political, even more so, is personal. Making the journey with these characters through time is beautiful and tragic all at the same time, but nonetheless, it is an absolute joy to read. -EMILY L. WILLIAMSON ELLE 64 www.elle.com

B
lair Barba. These days that name is packing a very heavy punch and Elle decided to find out all of the many reasons why. We spent the day with Blair in her Los Angeles condo to find out the answer to the real question... Is she the exception or is she the rule? Let’s start by pinpointing exactly all of the roles that Blair plays, because keeping track of all that, may be even hard for Blair herself. To begin, the 22 year old has been seen on every runway around the world making quite a name for herself as the model of the moment. Last month she walked in the shows of the biggest and most influential designers at every fashion week. No matter what city you were in, you could not turn around without seeing Blair wearing the most coveted items and hanging with the most fabulous people. When asked about her modeling career she wasn’t shy about telling me that she never thought it was her calling. “Modeling is fun, but I never consciously chose that path.” Blair explained that modeling was just something that she did in college to be part of the fashion culture of her school. “Going any further in her modeling was never the plan, my degree was always my main focus.” This brings us to Blair’s career off the runway. With a degree in fashion marketing and management, Blair has taken that degree and ran with it. She has had a promising career as a stylist for the past few years, giving other celeb stylists a run for their money. Some of her most notable clients include fellow model and gal pal Coco Rocha and also the always hip, Rashida Jones. According to Rocha, “Blair’s style is timeless and she reflects that into my own wardrobe. Who knows what I would show up wearing if it wasn’t for Blair?” Landing yourself a spot on any “best dressed list” sounds like a job for Blair. If you thought that modeling and styling was where it ends, you are mistaken. Blair’s current resume does not stop there, she is also a head buyer for the L.A. born boutique chain Planet Blue (www.shopplanetblue.com). This bohemian clothing boutique has become the essential place to shop when rocking that relaxed, chic, classic California style. When Blair moved out to L.A., she started working with Planet Blue and has become a quintessential part of their buying team. When asked about this part of her
career, Blair said, “This is where I am most passionate. I always saw myself as a buyer and I just feel at home with Planet Blue.” With four locations in the Los Angeles area, Planet Blue has become one of the most beloved boutiques by the in-the-know locals, welltraveled tourists, and high profile celebrities. It makes sense that a store this hip and chic would be home to Blair. It may seem that with three incredible jobs Blair wouldn’t have time for much of a social life, but guess again. Blair has divulged to Elle that she is in a bicoastal relationship with New York based entrepreneur, Trey Jones. According to Blair, “my life is busy, but that’s what makes it fun. Trey keeps me grounded.” With all of these things on her plate, Blair does not seem phased by a long distance relationship. She is very secure and positive when asked about her and Trey. Maybe wedding planner will be next on Blair’s list of jobs. Now that is a wedding I would like to go to! You’re probably wondering how a 22 year old has acquired this life and how she keeps it all together. And after spending the day with Blair, I can tell you, she makes it look effortless. While it may actually require a lot of effort, it seems Blair’s sunny disposition and incredible work ethic are what keeps her on top of everything and those things just come naturally to her. A day in the life includes an early morning spent mentally preparing for what will always be a long day. She takes a bubble bath and reads up on the latest fashion news with a piping hot cup of black coffee, or two. With Halloween approaching, Blair will attend an exclusive party and I was lucky enough to sneak peak of what she will be wearing. She put together a flapper costume and made it look like that was her everyday attire. Always with ease. So is she the exception or is she the rule? To Blair, her life is her normal, but to the rest of us, it seems unreal. So maybe she is a little of both. To say she is the exception would mean that the rest of us can’t strive for her lifestyle, but I think that we all should strive to have it all. To say that she is the rule, may be setting unattainable goals for those who don’t want to juggle that many balls. Either way, we can be sure that whatever is next for Blair, it’s going to be fabulous. -EMILY L. WILLIAMSON

G READY WITH BLAIR H anging out with Blair in her L.A. condo was quite a treat. Her closet was reminiscent of Carrie Bradshaw’s, but maybe more impressive. She drew herself a bubble bath in preparation for an exclusive L.A. Halloween party and explained that a relaxing bubble bath is a must prior to a night out in sky high Christian Louboutins. Getting ready seemed very routine for Blair.
Twenty minutes spent soaking in the tub and then it was on to wardrobe. After casually entertaining the idea of a few costume ensembles, she settled on a fiery red flapper dress. Ready for a night that was sure to be glamorous, Blair looked the part. I couldn’t help but imagine the luxurious party she would be attending. No doubt, all eye’s will be on Blair as she enters the room.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN FALL 2013
ELLE BEAUTY OBSESSION For Fall 2013, all eyes are sure to be on you. The statement made this Fall on the runway was simply one word, eyes. With a statement on your nude complextion and nude lips, the eyes are sure to stand out. Dark shades of grey, black, brown, and bronze were used by multiple designers sending models down the runway. Donna Karan, Gucci, and Jason Wu made it a point to focus on the eye makeup used this Fall to complete the looks for their Fall 2013 collections. Eyes have focus in cosmetics for the past century, and this Fall it’s no different. In the upcoming months, be creative and use more than you usually would. For beauty goers with little dark eye experience, use more subtle shades such as bronze and golds for a softer effect. This particular look has been seen being worn by celebrities like Mila Kunis and Amanda Seyfried; two females that have continued to make a statement with their beauty everywhere they go. For the total effect this Fall, use strong blacks and even navys to provide a deep and chic look. Cosmetics including Dior, Chanel, and Lancome provide various shadows and liners for Fall 2013 shades. The deep smokey eye has been a trend before, and it’s not suprise it’s now coming back. Infamous fashion model Twiggy can be seen wearing eye color in deep shades in some of her earliest photographs. Worried this look may not be appropriate for the office enviorment? Have no fear. Take additional costmetics to work with you and add on some deeper tones before heading out for drinks with the girls, or the cute boy.
In this day and age, uniqueness is a strong quality to have in the work enviorment. Don’t be afraid to make your face your own. Just remember to keep it sophisticated and classic, with that dash of Fall 2013 chic-ness.
SHADES Use different shades and liners for unique effects. Make it your own & bring Fall 2013 trends into your cosmetic routine.

esigners Oscar de la Renta and Rachel Zoe utilized the low pony for Fall. Infamous hairstylist for Fashion Week, Guido, used various techniques to achieve the “new” low pony look. Those pony tails we all love have been around forever. It’s not secret they are our fabulous little weapon when in a quick dash and running late for the office. For you, this means no more unenthusiastic pony tails. Now, this is what you should be doing before you dash to the office and grab your coffee in the A.M. To make the pony unique this year, Guido experimented with sleek and textured looks. Designer Oscar de la renta, Rachel Zoe, and Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, created sleek tails for their girls. With a significant part down the middle, these ladies sported simple pony tails that emphasized the garments. Sleek and sexy wasn’t the only ponytail trend this Fall. Ralph Lauren and Rossella Jardini of -ELLE 86 www.elle.com
Moschino took a much more girly approach to his models for the season. They strutted down the runway with low “bouncy” ponies that made every lady reminisce on her childhood days. Paired with a certain sass, both these pony tails will come in handy for planned and unplanned wardrobe choices! Have extra time on your hands and not in the mood for a pony? No worries, voluminous hair also made a huge statement on the catwalk for Fall. These 40’s inspired, pin-curled, voluminous locks were used by Marc Jacobs, Lela Rose, and Tomas Maier of Bottega Veneta. Once again, infamous stylist Guido used a pin-curling technique to achieve these luscious locks. A teasing comb was also used to achieve the full look. For the very bold and very beautiful, this look puts you right back to days of the 1940’s, chic, beautiful, and unbelievably sophisticated.
Thought you’d never pull yourhair back in to a braid ever again, well you might want to rethink that. The runway this fall screamed BRAIDS, BRAIDS, and more BRAIDS. Designers simply couldn’t help the fact that braids are now a chic statement to any casual look. Maria Grazia Chiruri and Pierpaolo Piccioli of Valentino sent chic school girl braids down the catwalk, and by no means was it understated. These thick and long braids brought back a whole new meaning of innocence with a dash of sass. Christian Siriano collaborated with Aveda hair designers and took a different approach, twisting the braids behind the head to create a low up-do. Rodarte, designed by the lovely Kate and Laura Mulleavy, created a relaxed and effortless feel to their braiding technique. Hair was long and wavy with small parts by the temple pulled back into a small bun that twisted into a braid. It’s clear to us these looks may not be the most effortless to do, but no doubt, are they the most chic. By Blair Barba

TOO YOUNG TO SAY “I DO”
Some 80.6% of Women get divorced before the age of 30. Getting married too young is becoming an issue. - Anonymous was 22 when I got married and I expected my life to be perfect. Children by 25, a house with my husband, a white picket fence and a dog. Little did I know that this was unusual. I am ordinary in most ways, although the outward details of my life may differ from others. I made this life commitment at an age when I was young, happy, and in love. I never would have guessed my life would fall apart. I believed I would have a happy marriage because I was happy with him. We started dating our freshman year of college and made it all the way through graduating and getting our first house. He was all I knew, he was the one. I was raised very well, my parents were happily married, I had a brother and sister both younger and I had everything I needed growing up. One result of growing up in a family like mine was hope. I knew I would go to college and that my parents would always be there for me. Once I met my husband freshman year I thought my life was headed in the perfect direction. We had a great set of friends that always supported us, and he had a family that felt like my own. When you have a marriage that begins this way, and a personality like mine, it is bound to be a lasting marriage. That is, until he decides otherwise and feels the need for another women.
I
ELLE 92 www.elle.com
When our relationship became awkward and he started not wanting to have sex with me I knew something was wrong. Something women don’t realize is that most married men live in a culture of adultery. They cheat on their wives while they are away. Researchers say that one of the strongest predicitors of of men who cheat and men who don’t is opporunity. Even if the man is commited to being faithful he is affected by what he sees around him. Promiscuity takes on the allure of adventure, of a life not lived. Maybe getting married at a young age was dumb? There is so much I wanted to do in my life with and without him. At 22 years old I don’t think that you are truly developed. Looking back now, I should have waited a few years and got to know him outside of living in college. In college you have freedom. Although my love for my husband has become more real to me, so did my recognition that something is not right. We are in a position where we need to end our relationship now or one of us will end up deeply hurt. I am not sure if he is being faithful to me or not but I am young enough to move on. I have so much ahead of me. I wish I had thought this way when I walked down the aisle at 22 years old and commitmed my life to this marriage. I confused the fantasy of being in love, with being too young. -Anonymous
Social scientists frequently note that “early marriage” is the No. 1 predictor of divorce. Additionally the average student graduating today has about $23,000 in debt and money problems don’t exactly help a marriage. The median age at marriage today is 26 for women and 28 for men. This is relatively young. The greatest adventure lies not in knowing oneself as much as in knowing and commiting to another person. What most young couples don’t realize is that when you get married at a young age you don’t fully know a person. You know what dorm they lived in and who their professors are but you don’t know exactly how they live. So after college you move in with your significant other and you run into the financial issues. Whether you come from a family of money or not, you both must know how to pay the bills and manage your money. This is something young couples don’t factor into marriage. When you wed you are commiting to being there for one another through all of the hard times. Scarily-high divorce statistics show that nearly 50% of marriages end in divorce, and that 60% of all couples who marry between the age of 20 and 25 divorce. If couples in their early to mid-20’s do get married they need plenty of support. Without a support of family and friends they won’t experience happy unions. Those who believe that they should marry in their early 20’s say it’s a good idea because of the size of the mating pool. However, maturity may make for a happier marriage and more stable encomic security, therefore making divorce less likely. “We found that the delay in marriage was actually a good thing and it improved the average marital quality by a fair amount,” said Amato, Sociologist and co-author of “Alone Together”. Before you get married at a young age you should consider a few things. Are you truly marrying the right person for you? You may think you’ve met the right person but how can you be sure without dating other people. You need to have experience in order to fully appreciate your partner. Have you made a solid career choice? Do you have a degree and are you on your way to a stable future. Your young years are when you need to find yourself. Have you talked to your significant other about family? Having children is a reality and you must be patient and knowledgable and be able to provide stability for your family. Have you accomplished your dreams?
Whether it’s backpacking through Europe or joining the peace corps, or being a painter, don’t let your dream die young. You may grow to resent your spouse someday and regret not doing these things while you were young. Don’t live a life of regret.
Tips on keeping a happy Marriage: 1.
Go to bed mad- Common wisdom tells you to resolve your issues before bed, however sleep will cool your anger and you may forget why you were mad in the morning.
2. Enter marriage with belief that it is not easyWhen you fight, don’t threaten to get divorced. Try having a fair discussion so you can trust eachother. Threatening to walk out the door proposes the idea that you don’t want to be in a relationship anyways. You need to feel like you can be honest with eachother
3. It really is the little things- Stock the fridge
with their favorite foods, or make a special meal. Show that they really mean something to you. It is especially important when you have children. Don’t keep score of what you do for eachother, Take care of eachother.
4.
Don’t wish away the early years- Although you are married, you are still young. Although you may not have a lot of money, don’t say “It will be so great when we have money someday.” Marriage is a journey through life and lack of money brings creativity.
5. Love is a verb- Getting married doesn’t mean
that you will automatically love and cherish that person every day of your life. It means that you have the choice to love and cherish that person everyday of your life. Be an active participant because it is not easy. It’s up to you to choose to love. - Jeni Carmichael

A difficult full moon will rattle all signs, but when venus and Jupiter link at the end of the month, expect relief. By Jeni Carmichael
LIBRA
(Sept 23-Oct 22)
Unexpected events keep you hopping this month. Surprises are not meant to upset you and you should settle unresolved issues now. You must balance logic and intuition to reach your goals as the analytical Virgo New Moon on October 15 activates your 12th House of Spiritual Mystery. September begins with the Sun in your secretive 12th House of Privacy. Private time alone will be surprisingly fulfilling.
Julianne Hough July 20, 1988
Your Year Ahead: You’re in a This is a favorable month to future 6 month eclipse cycle that will bring you opporunities to travel and an adventure that will seek you. This is an excellant year for higher education, communication and higher learning. You are more able to see the “big picutre” and are concerned about new stages of development. SCORPIO (Oct 23 - Nov 21)

projects, group activities and a time to get involves. This is just the time time to collaborate.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov 22- Dec 21)
The 13th’s new moon solar eclipse in Taurus will kick off a promiscuous and spirtual relationship. There’ll be good in your relationship and also the possibility to evolve along or through the partner. Relationships will contribute to opening the physcial or mental horizon. You’ll make the impression of a competent, intelligent and well prepapred person who has a leader’s and organizer’s qualities. In the first half of October it is to be expected that you’ll reach an important objective, get a promotion or be awarded a prize.
CAPRICORN (Dec 22 - Jan 19)
The ruler of your sign, Saturn will spend its last month in Libra, and a new moon on the 9th will be filled with romantic opportunities. Venus, the love of marriage, will be your eighth house, which can lead to purification. October 2013 will be a frivolous month. This will be a period loaded
with sensuality, but will challenge you to decipher the secrets of the relationship you’re into. Saturn will leave the area and Jupiter will move in to offer you a wide perspective. You must settle some issues and learn your lesson. Later this month, Venus can supply extra income, gifts or other material advantages. You will have a pretty good physcial shape and the work capacity will protect your health. If you can travel get a training session in something or learn something new.
AQUARIUS (Jan 29 - Feb 18)
You have an extrordinary buildup of planetary energy in your home sector. This gives you all the support you need for your family aims. It is also a wonderful month to start a new relationship, to refresh the exisiting one or give another try to a past love. You will be thirsty for love and will have the opporunity to go for it. The best chance to do this will be in the second part of October. Venus, Jupiter and the sun will light your joyous sector of love. Uranus will beam on the 11th’s full moon. Neptune will be in hard angle to this lunar eclipse so don;t lend or borrow money because a fiscal confrontation will damper your mood.
PISCES (Feb 19 - Mar 20)
A grand conglomeration of planets in your solar third house will bring exciting opportunities for expressing your voice, point of view, creative sense or other talents throughout October. Your house of couples acquires strength and glow under the Sun rays. Under the influence of the tandem the Sun-Mercury, there are high chances that in your relational life occurs some accomplishment. Communication is essential and October 2013 will be a good time to talk, explain, listen and understand ideas and solutions. September will be a month of collaboration and you will have a lot of motivation. Professional training and high specialization will contribute to improving the financial situation. This month will be rather demanding but with your balanced morals and optimistic vision you’ll do great things at your own pace. This period will be favorable to procedures related to health treatments and therapies, even beauty care.
ARIES (Mar 21 - Apr 19)
Mars has left Aries’ house of couples where it didn’t really make a happy pair with Saturn. Money has been a strong focus for you since the difficult moon in October. When Venus contacts Jupiter, and at the 12th’s new moon solar eclipse you will have better professional opporunities. Prep your resume or creative portfolio immdeiately. Mercury and the Sun will be in your house of work in the first hald of the month and this wil support you intelligence and practical sense. This month wil be favorable to your success, the more so as Jupiter will support you in your initiatives and negotiations. With friends and loved ones the doors will open to flirt, adventure, and be passionate. Nasty love, it seems, as Mars’ square in Scorpio will sort of annoy Venus which can react in a risky way. The first part of September will be appropriate to solving some health problems and to focus on physical shape.
TAURUS (Apr 20-May 20)
It will be a hot October filled with buring feelings. You will have strong emotions and overwhelming desires and also the courage to do what is necessary to get what you want. The full moon in Taurus is heavily active with Saturn and finances will be at the forefront. Don’t sign off any fiscal decisions. A close partner in love, marriage or busines seems to be either comforting rock or a thorn in your side. Tempermental outbursts could lead to conflicts and lack of prudence could expose you to dangerous situations. Mars has left your house of work so pressure and overload will cut you some slack.
GEMINI (May 21 - June 21)
The first part of October will be sentimental and will slowly become more intense in the second part. When mercury enters your house of love and sexuality it will lend more glow and passion to the sentimental life. Everything will be very lively, alert and exciting on one hand, and stressful, tiring and over demanding on the other hand. Keeping calm will be a special objective for October because mars can incite and cause misunderstandings with colleagues. CANCER (June 22-July 22 As entirely focused as you were last month, it will now pay off. This will be a good month for both status, profiit and welfare. Mars will be in a strong position which will allow you to advance, impose and self-promote. The physical energy will abound and you’ll need to excercise, muscular consumption, air and changes of scenery. You will be generating mental force, curiosity and optimism, but be very stressed at the same time. Neptune may cloud over your perception, so if you discover something amiss, don’t get your hopes too high and you’ll know exactly what you want.
LEO (July 23 - Aug 22)
This month will be your most critical if 2013 for career progress. Venus will be capable of increasing your ability to cooperate within a group or partnership, bringing you success with team work, associations and contacts with clients or colleagues and facilitating the appearance of some new collaboration and contracts. venus will enhance your charm and power of seduction and will draw the attention of the opposite sex on you like a magnet. The need to recieve and give affection will grow. During this month you’ll use allthe skill and ingenuity to increase your income or to get the reward you think you’re entitled to and you’ll struggle for matters related to the house, premises, and properties Given neptunes presence it could involve finances, but Uranus will be positively angled, and Mercury conjoins good-luck Jupiter on the 27th. You’ll be in a good, cheerful and benevolent mood, visibly more relaxed.
Virgo (Aug 23-Sept 22)
The Virgo is highly discriminating, but not necessarily as prudish as some might believe. Virgos have the uncanny sense to see what’s wrong with a person, situation or environment. Virgo may be a “clean freak,” but most Virgos have a messy closet somewhere or a disaster under their bed. You will have strength and magneOn one hand, the Virgo thinks that being perfect is just not good enough which may make you employable because you work hard. On the other hand, it may come off that you are finicky and put limitations on your experiences. Be less critical. With planetary support, it’s almost impossible for you not to get news in your favor. Neptune will be difficult, and thus a partner might not see things your way, but Uranus will give you an extra shot of luck. It could come from out of the blue, but this surprise will certainly be a pleasant one.
