The Center for Performing Arts is one of the most beautiful and underutilized quads on Miami University’s campus. The art buildings are large and have few windows to offer natural daylight during classes and studios. The creation of outdoor academic spaces will encourage academic achievement, creativity, and communication.

Using the largest trees on the site, three predominant walkways were developed leading to the new studio spaces. The buildings, made of corten steel, wood, and glass, are placed between the walkways to create a central location for entering and exiting the complex. Two buildings are con-
ditioned, to be used for studios and classes; the third for open air gatherings. The landscaping pieces, also made of corten steel, reinforce the movement towards and away from the center of the complex while creating spaces that can be used for studying or social gathering.

Copenhagen is known widely for their playful use of recreational bathing facilities located along the harbor in Copenhagen. These baths have become a community space for socializing and entertainment for people of all ages, year round. A new harbor bath has been proposed for Nokken, a community made of garden allotments, located along the harbor SouthEast of Copenhagen. Nokken is quiet and relaxed, untouched by the urbanization of the city.

This new structure, that will attract many people to the area, will be subtle and elegantly to blend into the shoreline with as little encroachment on the neighborhood as possible. The inspiration came from a leaf, an organic and recognizable shape that will integrate into the landscape defining its existence while sheltering the bath’s inhabitants from
the neighborhood’s residents. The west side of the bath will be a sloping hill hiding the bath’s amenities beneath from view leaving only beautiful green grass to be seen from the path. The east side of the bath will be made of wood decking allowing space for sun bathing, a gentle decent to the water, and a tower of stairs for jumping into the pools.

My favorite part of any project is watching it come alive off the pages of my sketch book. As a very detail oriented person, I take great care in creating every piece of my design. Using wood and metals I create each model by hand with the greatest of care and precission.
