EDITORS NOTE
Hey All! I can’t believe a year has passed before Maddie and I set up Simple Plan Space. It took us over a month to discuss how we wanted it and ages to think of a name. It actually was one that I thought of when I woke up in the night. We wanted it to include SP in the title and us Aussie usually say ”Ace” a lot and well with the Astronaut concept it felt right. What started as a couple of writers from Astronaut Weekly (a SP mag that the Editor decided not to continue) throwing ideas around and asking if people were interested writing and helping out to where we are now is astounding. A year down and many firm friendships made all over the world all because we admire the band Simple Plan. Our writers have joined our team for many different reasons. From people that wanted to improve their English skills or wanting experience in writing as they are hoping to be journalists one day to people just loving SP and wanting to do research about them. We have become a close knit international team. Strong friendships have been made and it is great to know that if I ever go overseas I have people I can visit! I have made friends with not just the writers on the mag but the people and the bands that I have interviewed. A highlight for me over the last year was to be asked to represent SP Aussie fans in the clip that was live on Canadian TV to congratulate Simple Plan for winning the Personality of the Year Award. This lead to me making firm friends with the others that were involved and especially Domi from Simpleplan.cz . A huge thanks to her for her support over the year as well as the interview that we did. Continued next page.

Thanks to Alana Miller (Lani) From The Never Ever who I was chatting to one night over twitter and I asked her to answer a couple of questions about touring with SP for me. That has lead to a great friendship with her and the band as well as many of their fans. This also gave me the idea to start a “Grass Roots” band interviews and focus on young Australian Talent. Special thanks to the following bands, and their managers, in particular Marc Mancini, Lisa Willows and Dayna Wright. The Never Ever, Nine Sons of Dan, Call the Shots, MXPX, Lets Not Pretend, A Sleepless Melody,Daylight Hours, Elephants Laundry and For Our Hero. Another highlight for me over the last year was meeting Mike Herrera from MXPX and seeing them live twice on their tour here in Australia. It was a huge honour for me to interview Mike over the phone prior to the tour and then following that up when they were here. Mike inspired me to start playing the bass again which I really enjoy. Thanks also to Pat from The Never Ever for assisting me in that! I would like the sincerely thank the writers. They are a great team and many of them have come up with the concepts that we have had for the editions. In particular Sonia who is the admin on ‘Simple Plan I need their music’ Facebook page. Sonia writes many articles but also is on standby for research and extra articles on very short term. I would also like to thank Rossi whose knowledge of Simple Plan astounds me! Our Editorial team, comprising of Maddie and Leeann work so hard on each edition as well as writing articles. The hours we put in proof reading is so high and then we still find mistakes…..Now that annoys us! We now even proof each others emails and comments. I think we also proof read in our sleep! I have become really good friends with both of them. Leeann and I both have kids that get on really well and we see them often even though they live 7 hours away. Our kids share the same taste in music. Have a look at them enjoying The Never Evers song Breathe while we were on a visit to Mildura.Watch that here Leeann and I get on so well, it is great to have a close friend due to loving the same band! Valentine joined the team as Design Editor more recently and has bought in many new techniques and design ideas. Her expertise has certainly improved the appearance of the magazine. Huge thanks to her. She has decided to concentrate on her studies but has left me with some great ideas. I would like to thank to readers as well. We have readers from all over the world and one month the second highest country in regards to reads was Iraq. Number One is always Australia! I look forward to another year of breaking our readers number records. Please continue to share to your friends! I also would like to thank a SP Facebook group I am in, their support is fantastic, always happy to contribute and answer questions. We laugh with each other, cry with each other and support each other. They know who they are. ☺
Thanks to my husband Martin and my two children, Nick and Emma. Martin not only puts up with me working hard on this magazine but gets roped into proof reading every edition. Emma has come to many concerts and interviews with me as our photographer. This has given her experience in band shoots as well as live shoots. Her photo of Call The Shots has been made into a poster and the possibility of being published in Dolly Magazine. Nick has enjoyed coming to the concerts with me and has contributed when required as a SP fan. All three are supportive of me and I think amazed at how this magazine has changed my life. So thanks! Also thanks to my best friend Dave, who has shared his technical knowledge of cameras with me. Lastly thanks to Chuck, Pierre, Jeff, Seb and David for being such an inspirational band. I don’t just love their music but their Humanitarian acts and the way they take time out of their busy lives to reply to fans tweets. I admire them for this and look forward to catching up with them at Warped in December here in Australia. Peace, Jen

Song Of The Month ’Vacation’ was a part of the soundtrack for the movie New York Minute, with the Olsen twins, that came out in 2004. It was written for the movie and is an up tempo song with a really nice sound. In almost 4 good minutes we get to hear about this guy who wants to get rid of this girl that’s always after him and the song is sort of their story being played out for us. He even offers his help to pack her bags to get rid of her as fast as he can. The sound is typical for Simple Plan and once you hear it you can guess it’s them. It has a punk Sound and is very much like the songs from their first record ’No Pads, No Helmets... Just Balls’ but it’s firstly a soundtrack they did as a side project. It’s not a song featured on any of their studio albums and it hasn’t been performed recently. In the movie they have a music video shoot for this song and it’s fun to see them in action. It’s like a real show and the way they act on stage goofing around and doing their cool jumps is the same as now. They have really found their sound and persona, on and off stage for that matter, which I think is great! ”LOMAX?” is Chuck’s famous line in the movie, during the performance of Vacation, and it always manages to make me smile, every single time. There’s nothing funny about it really but still, it doesn’t fail once. I hope they keep doing movie soundtracks but that they also want to be a part of another movie in the near future themselves, because we’d all love to see them on the big screen again, wouldn’t we? VACATION I know a girl who's obsessed with a guy She talks for hours and still tomorrow She'll call again and when he thinks that this could be the end, She calls again At six in the morning she waits at the door He tells her to leave but still tomorrow she'll be there again She won't let go Can't you just go somewhere on vacation? I could book your flight And pack your bags If you want A one way ticket out of my life Watching you fly away I never liked you She doesn't care if he tries to ignore He runs away but still she follows Shell try again She likes to think shell get him in the end Yeah Can't you just go somewhere on vacation? I could book your flight And pack your bags If you want A one way ticket out of my life Watching you fly away I never liked you I never wanted you I never liked you I never wanted you, whoa Can't you just go somewhere on vacation? I could book your flight And pack your bags If you want A one way ticket out of my life Watching you fly away I never liked you I never wanted you I never liked you I'm not in love with you
Simple Plan in ‘New York Minute
’
Back in 2005, when I watched ‘New York Minute’, starring Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, for the very first time, it was also the day I first heard a Simple Plan song. I have to admit that I didn’t pay much attention at all to that band in the movie, I didn’t even know that they were an actual band until about half a year later. I do remember thinking that they had funny hairstyles, all blue and spiky. But that was it. It wasn’t until a few months later, when my brother joined me watching the movie, that I found out that Simple Plan was in fact a ‘real’ band. My brother loved their song ‘Vacation’ so he looked up more songs and long story short, Simple Plan was my brother’s new favorite band. So from then on, all day every day I had to endure this weird pop-punk music blasting in my brother’s room and to be perfectly honest, I hated it. I was only nine years old, too young to appreciate this amazing band. However, one day I caught myself singing along to one of their songs. It was no surprise to me that I knew the words to their songs since I listened to little else every day, thanks to my brother. It was ‘Welcome To My Life’ and back then I had no idea that one day it would be the most important song in my life. So, that’s how I got to know Simple Plan and I am very grateful that they appeared in that movie, which by the way, was the band’s first on-screen appearance. They’ve appeared as cartoon versions of themselves in an episode of Scooby Doo before and the TV show’s intro song is also sung by Simple Plan. A year before, they were also featured on the soundtrack of the movie ’Freaky Friday’, starring Lindsay Lohan. The song they contributed to the movie was ‘Happy Together’. ‘New York Minute’ is about the twins Roxanne, (Roxy), and Jane who go to New York for one day – Though for absolutely different reasons. Roxy misses out on school to attend Simple Plan’s video shoot and Jane wants to deliver a speech to qualify for a scholarship in England. Eugene Levy stars as the truant officer who has nothing better to do than to chase Roxy all the way through New York. The twins get involved in an internet piracy, fall in love, steal a dog and in the end, they all get a happy ending. You know that kind of film.

The song Simple Plan play in ‘New York Minute’ is called ‘Vacation’ and it’s featured on the movie’s soundtrack but on none of the band’s albums. It’s about a guy who’s fed up with his ex-girlfriend and desperately tries to get rid of her, but she just doesn’t get the message. In the chorus, he politely asks her to go somewhere on vacation and that she should just a get one-way ticket out of his life. The movie was filmed in 2003, when Simple Plan were on their No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls tour. It was the Olsen twin’s first feature film and Mary-Kate, who’s character Roxanne is obsessed with Simple Plan in the movie, has always been a fan of the band which is one of the reasons why they chose Simple Plan for the part. In an interview back in 2005, Chuck said: “The whole way we approached it was that we heard that they liked our band and they called and said, “Do you want to be in our movie?” And for us it was a chance to play live concert in a movie. We don’t really discriminate who we play in front of and it gave us a chance to do what we do – which is play live in front of a bunch of people.” About the Olsen Twins, who were quite famous at that time, Chuck said: “We tried to buy them lunch, but they weren’t having any of it….” David added: “Mary-Kate tried my bubble tea.” Today, I always feel grateful when I watch this movie. Who knows where I’d be, had I never watched that movie. So, that’s the story behind Simple Plan’s most famous on-screen appearance. And the story of how this band found their way into my life. Confessions of A Teenage Drama Queen The 2004 Disney movie Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen starring Lindsay Lohan is one movie that Simple Plan fans enjoy, not only because it features an acoustic version of No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls hit single, Perfect, but simply because it is very easily relatable to the feelings many of us experience on a daily basis. The movie begins with a teenage girl, Mary Elizabeth "Lola" Cep, (who is very relatable to many of us) who constantly feels as if the world is against her and faces many challenges throughout the course of the movie.
around them.
Throughout the movie, Lola is also caught in a web of lies that she started and this continues during the movie that results in temporary hatred by her peers and new best friend, Ella. Lola thought lying would make her life sound more interesting and this would make her more likable and popular with her classmates. I like that aspect because I find that to be a current struggle throughout many teens' lives: to lie so that they won't be judged by everyone
Perfect is featured in this movie because the character Lola feels that her parents don't love her as much as they love her sister and that she's a disappointment to her family because she refuses to be "realistic". This is very relatable to the angsty, depressed teen inside many of us. It makes sense for Perfect to be featured because the song is describing the band's reaction to their parents' disappointment of them and the fact that they refuse to obey their wishes of getting a "real" career and to finally stop "wasting their time". I love this movie because although there is a typical happy ending where the protagonist gets everything she ever wanted and her reputation is ultimately restored, Lola does struggle throughout the movie and at some point, is humiliated at school by the superficial popular girl. It also displays every superfan (or fangirl)'s dream: meeting the rock star of their favorite band. Although I haven't met SP yet, I dream about it constantly and in the movie, Lola does everything she can to see and meet Sidartha's lead singer, Stu Wolff, which is what I would intend to do if I ever got the chance to meet Simple Plan. Luckily for Lola, her dreams come true and much better: she actually gets to hang out with Stu and have a few conversations with him (and it's all free!) Despite the fact that the ending of the movie is the stereotypical Disney cliche, I enjoy the movie because it doesn't feature the "perfect girl" most TV nowadays portrays opposed to showing the reality of life.

Cheaper By The Dozen
Packed with pranks, mischief and laughter this movie is entertaining for everyone! Cheaper By The Dozen is your classic family comedy, starring notable actors like Steve Martin and Hilary Duff as well as Bonnie Hunt, Piper Perabo, Tom Welling, Kevin G. Schmidt, Alyson Stoner, Jacob Smith, Liliana Mumy, Morgan York, Forrest Landis, Blake Woodruff and twins Brent and Shane Kinsman. Ashton Kutcher also appears in the movie as well as a cameo from Dax Shepard. Filmed in Culver Studios, Los Angeles, Petaluma and Santa Rosa, this sets the perfect scene for the storyline. Directed by Shawn Levy and released in January 2004. The plot to this movie focuses on the dramas had while raising 12 children. There’s mischief and mayhem as well as tear-jerking moments throughout the whole 98 minutes. The Baker kids are happy where they are, living in their small-town home until their father, Tom Baker is offered his dream job, coaching his old college football team. With a large bribery, everyone packs up and moves out to the big city. Things finally start to get settled when Kate (the mother) is offered a chance to get her book published, a chance of a lifetime. The only catch, she has to fly to a whole new city for a couple of weeks to complete the process. With the pressures of Tom having to create a winning team whilst looking after 12 kids alone, things get a little crazy. He soon realises that his family is falling apart; even though he claimed moving would make the family stronger. Tom notices that he must do something to bring the family together again. One of my favourite things about this film is the soundtrack. Simple Plan’s ‘I’m Just A Kid’ is featured in it and it’s one of the reasons that I love Simple Plan now. I rediscovered them while watching this film. The scene this song is in is one of the heartfelt moments. It’s the first day at the children’s new school and it’s frightening. They’ve been raised in a small town with their friends and now they’re at a big school in a big city. Of course, it sounds like a nightmare! Hence “I’m just a kid and life is a nightmare”. There are quite a few punk-rock type songs in this film but every song fits in perfectly with the scene. If you enjoy watching movies like Daddy Day Care, The Parent Trap, Dr Dolittle, or The Little Rascals I strongly recommend you check this one out! You’ll definitely get a laugh out of it.

GRIND MOViE This movie is both an adventure and a comedy. It was directed by Casey La Scala. Mike Vogel is the leading actor. He plays a boy called Eric who is a skater .Other leading actors are Adam Brody (Dustin),Vince Vieluf (Matt), Joey Kern (Sweet Lou). Also you can see famous skaters in the movie! The movie is based on four friends who want to be professional skaters. One day, they decide to follow their idol, Jimmy Wilson, and they want him to watch their demo tape. So they set off on a long journey and the adventure begins! Overall,in my opinion, you should watch it,if you like fun movies. I also found it very inspirational. It tells you to never give up. It has an amazing soundtrack (including Simple Plan’s I’m just a kid),as well. If you are into skateboarding and if you love good music,I definitely recommend it. It's really an enjoyable movie and worth seeing.

Prom In the American high school movie ‘Prom’ from 2011 Simple Plan is part of the soundtrack list once again. Their latest album ‘Get Your Heart On!’ has the song ‘Can’t Keep My Hands Off You’ featuring Rivers Cuomo that’s a part of the movie. The bands official music video for CKMHOY takes place at a school prom which fits perfectly for its purpose. This is a typical teenage movie that has a few laughs, it only rated 5/10 on Rotten Tomatoes, but worth the watch to hear Simple Plan in it. Watch it here

Avril Ramona Lavigne was born 27 September 1984 in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. Named after the French word for April by her father Jean-Claude Joseph, After hearing Avril sing “Jesus loves me” in church her mother Judith-Rosanne knew she had talent, so the two started singing church songs together more often. She has an older brother, Matthew, and a younger sister, Michelle. Both used to tease her whenever she would sing.
“M on y br to th oth he sin e w er re th g m all used al ou yse be ly gh lf ca to an t to us kn no th e I oc s yin at lee us k g.” it p a ed w nd as
When she was five, her family moved to the town of Nappanee, Ontario where after being kicked out of class for misbehaving it was discovered that she had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Her parents supported her singing from the start and her father would buy her instruments and her mother would help her practise. They even converted their basement into a studio. At the age of 14 her parents started taking her to karaoke classes, and she started to perform at country fairs and write her own songs. Her first song was called "Can't Stop Thinking about You" about a teenage crush, she described the song as “cheesy cute” In 1999 she won a radio contest with another Canadian singer to perform to a crowd of over 20,000 people. The two sang "What Made You Say That". That year she was discovered by Cliff Fabri, who went on to become her first professional manager. He sent out tapes of her singing and eventually she was asked to work with Peter Zizzo in New York where she wrote “Why” On another visit to New York she was noticed by Arista Records which started off her career. In 2009, Billboard named Lavigne the number 10 pop artist in the "Best of the 2000s" chart and by 2013 she would go on to sell more than 50 million singles and 30 million copies of her albums worldwide becoming one of the top-selling artists releasing albums in the U.S. with over 10.25 million copies certified by the RIAA

Elephants Laundry
Elephants Laundry are a Sydney based band that released their debut album in 2012. They are quickly becoming popular with their catchy tunes and great lyrics. I encourage you to check this band out and if you can, go see them live. If not check out their Youtube channel and purchase their music on Itunes. I caught up with Mike and the band on a freezing cold and wet Melbourne day before their Melbourne Concert. (see review later in this edition) Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions guys.
Hi Guys, Sorry to start off with such a cliché question, you must get this one a lot………How did you come up with the name Elephants Laundry? There must be a story behind that! That's a story we have to keep secret, we decided very early on that it was going to be the one question we never answer. Maybe 10 years down the track we will tell everyone. Hehe Hmmm..... not fair! So Mike, you were a solo artist that felt the need to be part of a family, how did you create a family like yours? I was very lucky to meet a bunch of guys that are not only amazingly talented, but that I now consider really good friends. Dylan was the first member to join the band and in the short time I've know him we have been through a lifetime of events. It's pretty awesome to share the stage with your best mate. Who would you say are your biggest musical influences? Our inspirations are taken alot from All Time Low and the old style of punk! But we also take the modern sounds from bands like Coldplay and 30 Seconds to Mars. I think what is great about the band is we all have a wide range of taste in music. The boys have a strong passion for punk rock music and I have a very broad variety of music I like. So we try to blend all our musical individualities together to come up with a brand new sound that is Elephants Laundry. You go to your beach house to write your songs, how does the process usually go? There seems to be a whole gang of people that go. Basically we go there and just jam, come up with beats and riffs and new sounds. And then we take what we come up with and mash it all up. It's really good to write as a band compared to writing alone as you have all this creative input in the same room. Any funny or strange stories you can tell us about your rehearsals? Dylan is usually naked. That says it all... Ah yeah it does! What do you look forward to the most when you play live? I love meeting new fans and introducing them to our music. It's just a different atmosphere when you have a room full of people singing our lyrics. That's the highlight for us, when we can see people actually singing the words.
Do you have a fav track you like to play live? We change a lot when it comes to favourite tracks to play live. I think right now we are opening with 'More than We've Been' which has changed a tone from the original album version. So it's always fun to play the new version. But I also like our finishing song which is 'The Black' cause it's a story really personal to me and I really connect with it (Mike) What covers do you usually play? I have seen you do a The Killers cover on YouTube. The Killers are always a favourite to do since I saw them live at big day out. But we also like to take songs completely out of our genre and give them a pop-punk twist. You played at Brewhouse on the 25th of May this year which just happened to be Dylan’s birthday, do you have any funny stories about you can share? (Dylan )it was pretty amazing, cause this was our first show where we could interacte with the fan and it was funny seeing everyone bring there quirky presents and cards. Totally unexpected. Incidentally is there a reason you pick on Dylan so much? (Mike) every band needs a scape goat. I think we pick on Dylan the most cause he is so good looking!! All the girls love him and talk him up all the time on twitter so we need to bring him back down to earth sometimes.
June the 15th you played with Let’s Not Pretend and For Ever Ends Here, at Metro Lair, what was it like playing with these bands? I have seen them a fair bit, being local bands. Let's Not Pretend is always a pleasure to play with, they are such great guys and we share a lot of the same fans. It's been awesome not only getting to play with them but also getting to hang with them as friends. Forever Ends Here was the first band I heard about in the underground pop-punk scene. It was awesome finally getting to play a show with them as they are great performers and bands like that really motivate me to work hard in this industry.
Who would be your ultimate band to support? I think All Time Low have always been an inspiration to us. I'm sure if any of us boys were to be involved in one of their tours: we would probably die of heart attacks! What is the first thing that you do when you come off stage? Me personally, I like to look around at all the familiar faces and that really gives me a massive hype seeing these people who continue to support us. You released a 10 track album in August last year. Tell us a little about the recording of that. It was an amazing experience working with our record label music entourage and senior producer Nathan Eshman. It was a little scary going in as we had never recorded in a professional studio before. But the team at music entourage had a great perspective on the style we were trying to achieve at the time and they were really easy going and fun to work with.
Tell us who sings the female part with you. (both live and on the album) On the album we worked with an artist from Brisbane called Trish Edwick who has also become a great friend of the band. She has an amazing sound and we still remember the first time I heard her voice when she sang Breath me by Sia. Trish has other commitments this year so we brought on board a new female artist from Sydney temporarily to play the live shows called Elia. She has some amazing tracks on her newly released EP and it was great getting to work with her. Her and Trish have a similar sound but at the same time are unique in their own right. We are very excited to perform with Trish on our national tour for the Brisbane show. Your first single off that CD was ‘All or Nothing’, followed by two singles, that you made videos for ‘Hell Inside Your Head’ and ‘Room on Fire’. Who came up with the concepts for these music videos and how much fun did you have making them? (Mike) I started as a film maker and have always tried to interpret that aspect into my music. The director, Amanda Jermyn and I came up with the concept for the music video. Amanda is a great director and I always have a pleasure working with her. She is on my level in terms of creativity. It was great bringing the boys on board to the music video as they had never worked on a set before so it was totally new for them. Readers can view the making of your two music videos here Hell Inside Your Head Room on Fire Any plans to release more singles off this CD? We are now working on our new EP as we are looking to create a whole new sound and change our style a little. We really hope the fans enjoy our new style. How can fans purchase the CD? The album is available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and pretty much all music download websites
You guys have fans from all over the world, including Germany and the US. You are really great with your fans, just like SP. You have started Question Answering Thursday, when fans can tweet questions and you will answer them. Is this going to be a weekly occurrence? Who came up with this idea? Follow them on twitter Mike of course. He's the mastermind behind all the great social networking ideas. QAT is a great way to answer questions the fans have but also get to know our fans and their quirky personalities. You have an album on facebook just for fan art and fans holding up I love EL signs, did you expect when you were just starting out so much fan art? Not at all. I remember how shocked we were when we got the first fan art sent in. We couldn't believe that people would spend their time making such awesome fan art for a band like us. I love seeing how creative our fans are. Check them out on facebook here
How does it make you feel that fans are helping direct your music style? Fan input is so important to us. Because at the end of the day, they are who we want to please.

I really hope that they do decide to share how they came up with the name Elephants Laundry. I look forward to seeing them live again and to hear some new music from this young talented band. Thanks guys!

Elephants Laun Every time Let’s Not Pretend have a gig in Melbourne I go. I love seeing this band as you would know if you read my reviews! I was pleased to hear that Elephants Laundry were also headlining as I had wanted to see them for a while. This was their first trip to Melbourne as a band and in typical Melbourne style it was freezing and pouring rain. Emma and I had booked them for a photo shoot, in a park near the venue (assuming it would be a nice day!)and we managed to get some pics without getting too wet. Well maybe that is not entirely true, we got pretty wet. The band were great about it, it was a pretty miserable day and they had an action packed day. There were a few supports that I had not seen and one of them was a band called Day Break. These guys were awesome. Their set was really tight and they seemed like they had played together for ever. I met them after and was suprised to learn that they were all 16 and this was their first tour. Check them out on facebook here http://www.facebook.com/DayBreakAUS. if you like them tweet about them and you could win a signed tee. Elephants Laundry were the second last band to play and I really enjoyed their live performance. They sounded more pop punk than I thought they would be. My fav song of theirs is Hell inside my Head and they sang that with Elia I enjoyed the two covers they did of Fall Out Boy and The Killers. Great set . Elia. during Hell inside my head

Well it's been 2 years since the release of the self-titled album and not much has changed. Upon first listen of this album, my initial thought was this has been a tried formula, with no tracks really catching my listening senses. This new album is a bit like an oyster!... You try, try and try to crank it open to reveal what's inside. Once you finally mange to open it, you reveal a fun beauty of what's really inside. The album title J.A.C.K is created by all the boys initials put together (Jack, Austin, Caleb, and Kyle). The first single "Chin Up Kid" isn't one of the catchiest songs on the album and neither is the second single "Nice To Meet You", having said that, they both fit perfectly in with the rest of the album. Fall Out Boy's front man Patrick Stump has lent a helping hand with co-writing and producing "Nikki", one can easily hear the influences he has on this track, but with it's electro intro, the quartet has stamped their own trademark on the song. Ritalin (Born In America) with it's beautiful piano and strings instrumentation ending , makes the song more enticing, catching my ears. "Playing With Fire" opens acoustically before a major key change turns the song into Hot Chelle Rae-seque catchy chorus that beds into ones mind after a few plays. I just wish the boys added in the line of "Liar Liar Pants on Fire" into the chorus as this is what I thought the boys was trying to achieve with the chorus, and it fits musically, but upon closer listen it was "Can't trust a liar, can't beat a cheater". "Count On Me (For Nothing)" with it's Gospel Choir sounding chorus is quite catchy which makes it one of the strong points, one can picture this being belted out by a bunch of faith-loving church-goers dressed in white robes with hands in the air, praising the lord!. "My Friends Save Me" has a nice feel-good summery acoustic feel. Along comes "La La Lainey", has that "stuck-in-your-head" formula, will have you singing that La La chorus in no time. Overall this is an album that would leave a live crowd jumping and singing along to it's poppy electro punk vibes!. No ballads on this one! The cover for the album consists of a comic-like cartoon artwork of the four boys, leaves us wondering if the intention of the album was aimed at a teen audience, just by the artwork. If so, then the boys have accomplished exactly that. With it's themes of Boy-meets-girl romance, hope and struggles of young adult life, this new material isn't a stand out, but does have it's strong moments. It also has BIG potential for the band to develop and mature. Here's hoping that will be the case with the next album. Although it is quite up-beat and full of raw energy, most songs sound similar to each other and left me feeling like my fingertips were just touching at that pearl, but not quite grabbing a hold of it! written by Brett

ALL TIME LOW...... Earlier this summer on June 28th All Time Low was finally back in Sweden to attend a new festival in Norrköping named Bråvalla and I was of course there to check them out! I travelled by train from Stockholm, the capital, in the morning and arrived in Norrköping around 11am. I was, as always, travelling with my friend Erika and we navigated ourselves to the festival area right away. While at the festival we stood in line to get in and Erika grabbed something to eat and we started to move towards to stage. It was a big stage and it had big screens on both sides. The fence was a few meters from the stage and there were fans waiting already. The sun was burning and people were sitting down on their jackets just waiting for their favorite band to come out. People were moving around on stage to get everything ready in time of the show and Rian, the drummer, was greeted by the fans when he walked in to check a few things. Erika and I first decided where we wanted to stand and we got ourselves a second row place almost in front of Alex. Erika is a few inches taller than me so she’s not very picky but I had to get a good sight to enjoy the show as much as possible, luckily the stage was high so I could look over people’s heads and still see everything. Perfect. This was going to be my first show and therefore I didn’t know what to expect. I usually have very high expectations and this show and band wasn’t any different from the others I’ve seen through the years. I already knew that they would be amazing live and that they are all a little crazy, especially Jack but I didn’t expect them to impress me as much as they did!
I had already looked up a possible set list for the show and I knew what songs I wanted to hear that are my favorites; ‘Weightless’, Time-bomb’, ‘Heroes’ and ‘Damned if I do ya, Damned if I don’t’ just to name a few. I heard all of them, which was beyond my expectations and it was great! I was in heaven even though standing for hours hurts my poor back. It was definitely worth it and I’d do it all over again if I could. The crowd got bigger and bigger during the last hours before the show was about to begin and I was being pushed forward but I didn’t mind getting closer to my favorite band. I was more than ready for them to take my first-show-virginity and I was counting down and waiting patiently for them to begin. I have a pretty strong and loud voice and as they walked in on stage I screamed my lungs out and I jumped up and down of excitement like a puppy. Everyone was screaming and they really know how to get a crowd going. They opened up with ‘Somewhere In Neverland’ and set the bar high and just kept raising it song after song. For their one hour set I barely stood still or shut up, I kept screaming, singing and yelling F*&K YEAH just like Alex wanted us to do. Jack was all over the stage with the camera filming them up on stage for the big screens so everyone could get a nice close up of that handsome face.
A bunch of girls on the stage’s left side had bras for the boys and Jack came down to pick them up. He put one of them on his head and the rest on his microphone stand as he kept playing his guitar like the bad ass he is. He kept the crowd going by telling us to jump up and down, sing along and do mosh pits. It was amazing just to see Jack up there doing all those things at the same time never taking a break. I mean, how? They changed guitars almost every single song and they all had these really cool designs or awesome colours. It fit them perfectly and Jack always greeted the one handing him the new guitar by going down on one knee before changing guitars. Nice ritual that made me crack up a little. They really are something else, let me tell you. Jack came down to the crowd again towards the end and jumped up on the fence and enjoyed all of the girls touching him as he looked out over the crowd. He was just a few meters away from me and it felt unreal. They finished the show like it should be done, with no question marks, when they left stage there weren’t coming back, that was the last song and they left with the bar high. They threw their picks, towels and drumsticks but I didn’t manage to catch anything. I saw a pick fall to the ground just like everyone else and the loudest and quickest one got it from one of the security guards in front of the stage keeping an eye on the crowd. While standing there after they had left, watching that now empty stage, I couldn’t believe I had just seen them, I still can’t. Listening to their albums now and being able to say that I’ve heard that song, that song and that song live is incredible. Amazing! We stayed for awhile after their set to get a chance of meeting them before we had to leave to catch our train back home because of work but it wasn’t for long. We went to the merch table and I bought two t-shirts and a wristband with a simple but cool design, which was the last thing we did. Every now and then I think back on the beautiful moments and I go through my pictures and videos to remember. I always record my favorite songs or favorite parts and it’s funny to see awhile after the concert and to be able to go back and almost relive it. I always feel like shit after every concert I go to because when reality slaps you in the face when it’s all over and you get back to your own life, everything’s so sad. I can’t help but to feel sad because during a concert, I’m probably the most happy, you know? I hope they’ll come back in the near future or else I’ll travel to see them, that’s how great it was! And the craziest thing for me wasn’t to see my favorite band walk out on stage and realize that they are real and to then hear them sing a few of my favorite songs. It was that they manage to leave me wanting more. They really blew me away! I hope I’ll be lucky enough to meet them one day just to tell them how great they are, you know? That’s all I ask for.

I am huge fan of The Never Ever and Nine Sons of Dan so when they announced their Hoodie Weather Tour I was pretty happy! I went to both Melbourne Concerts as my kids had a lot on that weekend but both wanted to see them. Not a great venue in fact I did not like it all but the bands made up for that. I was front row on the first concert, which was great! You know that feeling? First on stage was Way with Words then With Confidence. Check them out on Facebook to learn more about them. A Sleepless Melody was next up and they always put on a great show, Ive seen them live four times now and they get better each time. I miss Jayden playing with them though‌‌.. But glad that he is still in the music business just in a different role. Nine Sons of Dan are one of my all time favourite bands to see live, their energy, and talent makes them stand out. They played a few new songs that I really liked and look forward to them releasing those. Great to Wil to come out and join us in the crowd during the other bands sets as well. The Never Ever played songs off their new EP but also their crowds favourites. It was my first time seeing Marc join the band as drummer and he was awesome! Really fits in well with the band. When TNE played Breathe during the second show Dylan gave us the challenge of trying to make the floor move like it did at one of their other Melbourne concerts. Sadly this venue had a steadier foundation but we sure tried to! Hearing Breathe live reminds me of seeing SP during the last Aussie Tour. At the Wollongong show Nick and I were the only ones that knew that song it seemed. Great memories. After both shows the bands did a huge Meet and Greet. It was another fantastic concert that showcased young Australian talent. Take the time to check out these bands music if you have not already!

July Twitter Talk David...
Just when I thought David’s twitter wrap-up was going to be blank this month, he popped up letting us all know how excited he was about seeing Sir Paul McCartney later that night. I don’t really know why his eye’s where burning a little while later, but I hope David’s ok, and tweets a little more next month.
Pierre.... The month may have started a little muddy for
Pierre and the boys, but they guys had it all in control, and made sure they were nice and clean when it came time to dine with some generous fans. Taking some time to enjoy the scenery, as well as some fireworks, all to soon it was time for Pierre and Seb to head back to the US for a little acoustic show.
Chuck... Chuck might have been enjoying a
round of golf before hitting the stage and kicking of Canada Day celebrations at Ft. Mac, but I don’t think the same could be said for Pierre. This time off, saw Chuck able to enjoy his other great loves, golf and hockey. But there was also time for swimming, sushi and hanging out with friends. Enjoy you the rest of your time off Chuck, you deserve it.
Jeff –
After an amazing show at Fort Mac, Jeff wished fellow Canadian’s a happy Canada day. Again I was left asking, where were the selfies when Jeff tweeted he was working on his schedule while in his underwear. Retweeting some fan messages. (Yes, he does read them) Jeff stated that although some tried to ‘grab his attention’ he was going to focus on the positives. Hummm, I wonder if that then had anything to do with his next few tweets, which I won’t go into here, but maybe have a look at a couple of tweets at the start of the month ;) Even though it has been a year since Jeff moved into his new home, he was able to finally unpack the last box, and oh what memories he was able to relive. Heading out for a ride with David (ahhh, so maybe that’s what David’s been doing) and hitting the stage in Sorel where not the only things keeping Jeff busy during the month. But ever humble, Jeff knows how lucky he is. Having some much needed R&R, Jeff took the opportunity to catch up on some sleep, hike as well as hit the road on his bike as he looked towards the future and some new business ventures coming his way.
Sebastien....
Flying can be stressful, especially when faced with the possibility of missing the end of the movie. Thankfully it all worked out for Seb, but now I’m going to have to watch GI Joe to see if the good guys won. I know I was wishing I was there, when Seb posted pics from the dinner with the Simple Plan Foundation auction winners. While contemplating using the word glad more, Seb also reminded us that the difficult choices are usually the sweetest, not only in life, but when it comes to picking cup cakes. With summer now in full swing in Canada, I can understand why Seb didn’t feel like wearing clothes (now where are his selfies of that???) although, I don’t know what the hitch hiker would have thought had Seb actually stopped to pick them up dressed in such a way. We were treated to more words of wisdom Seb style, when he advised us to spend more time with the people we love, and less time picking your scabs. With the full moon riding high in the sky, it was time to get weird, and maybe watch a few cartoons.

Q: Say what Simple Plan means to you. They are an amazing group of guys who remain true to who they are, that’s what makes them awesome.
It is my pleasure to introduce you to Tracy from Canada. I’ve been Tracy’s friend on facebook for a long time and we have got to know each other quite well! Q: What’s your favorite part of ABPFY? Them dancing around in their underwear on stage! Q: If you could spend a whole day with SP, what would you do? Doesn’t matter, as long as I get to know them a little more, just have fun and enjoy the day, no matter what we do, as long it has nothing to do with heights lol. Q: Best Simple Plan memory? Well its not for me but my daughter got to meet Jeff and she took a picture with him, it made her day, she was so happy, so its also my best memory. For now.
Tracy
Q: Have you made friends thanks to Simple Plan? Yes many, made a new one in Valleyfield, she is from Boston and we keep in touch, and of course you Jen. (YEAH!)
Q: Favorite SP quote? Has to be Pierre saying “People that hate our band, they will never hate enough to make me stop, they don’t phase me. I love what I do so much and they will never stop me from doing it. No matter how loud they scream, I will scream louder and I will always be there for the people that love us.” Q: Favorite Simple Plan video? Wow, I would have to say Shut Up. Q: What song would you like Simple Plan to cover? Wow your not making this easy! lol, I think the song, when they go on tour then come back home and perform I would have to say they do “The Boys are Back in Town”, it would seem right. Q: Apart of SP , which other bands do you like? Marianas Trench, Hedley, Down with Webster, Bon Jovi. Q: If you could say anything to Simple Plan right now, what would you tell them?
