Editors Note: Hi All, I hope that you all had a great Christmas and to the people on my side of the world, a great summer. Some of you may find it strange that our Song of the Month is Summer Paradise, but as I write it is 40 Degrees Celsius here! Our team enjoyed a break last month but it was lovely to hear from so many of you on January 1st wondering where the new edition was. Once again SP have kept us on our toes with their many achievements and concerts. From performing in the snow to winning Personality of the Year in their hometown the boys has kept us busy keeping up with the news. It was a pleasure for me to be one of the 15 fans from all over the world to congratulate SP on Canada TV in mid January. This edition also has a focus on the SP book. One of my fav things to do is to read and study the awesome pictures. This focus on the book will be in many parts spread over the next few Editions. We are hoping to expand our team so if you are interested please let us know. If you love SP, speak English and would like to volunteer your time please email us. Special thanks once again to Martin, Leeann and Simple Plan.cz. I look forward to what 2013 has in store for SP and us, their fans. Peace, Jen @justjenrees.

Simple Plan Wins Personality of the Year!
In Early December I got a Facebook message from one of my SP friends, Marian, (who had written a concert review for us last year) asking if I was interested in being involved with a video tribute that would be aired on Canada TV in front of SP. I of course said yes and then received an email from Radio Canada giving me the instructions about how to go about my video. It took many takes to get it so I was happy with it, but soon it was ready to send off. The other astronauts were from all over the world and we started chatting on Facebook. We were told that it was to be completely secret and even Simple Plan did not know about the award. So we took the chance to chat about it amongst ourselves. These people are great; we all accepted each other and chatted away about how excited we were that we had been asked. We had to wait almost a month to see it on TV. We did not know that we would be able to stream it live form the site so were really surprised when we could watch it. As the program was all in French and all the video tribute were in our native language I only understood the English-speaking people. It did not matter to me as it was so great knowing that I was on TV and it was I congratulating SP representing Australian fans. Even though I was named Martin not Jen, it did not matter to me. Soon after we were given the link to see the whole video tribute, the DVD that was given to each member of SP to take home. I was first on the DVD, the luck of the draw really. This whole experience was fantastic; it was hard to keep it a secret, really REALLY hard! Very glad that I can now talk about it! Here is the link for the footage of the live show. http://www.simpleplan.cz/en/index.php/video-simple-plan-accepting-personality-of-the-year-award-fans-videomessages/ Check out the info about the ceremony from Simple Plan.cz. After weeks of having to keep this a secret, I can finally announce that yesterday, 13th of January at the annual Radio Canada’s and La Presse’s “Le meilleur de nous-mêmes” (“The best of ourselves”) event that gives out awards every year to personalities in Canada for their out-standing efforts in many categories (Sports, Arts and Entertainment, Science etc.), Simple Plan became the winners in the most significant category – Personality of the Year. According to Radio-Canada, the band has been honored with this award not only for their musical career but also for their humanitarian activities. Apart from that Simple Plan were also nominated in the “Arts and Entertainment” category, which eventually went to someone else (who he later mentioned “I can’t believe I won over Simple Plan!”). Pierre, Jeff and Chuck were present at the event last night to accept the prize on behalf of the whole band, and to their surprise they were not only greeted on stage personally by the presenter of the award, but also virtually by a couple of fans, who’s video messages were shown on the screen. Back in December, about 15 Simple Plan fans from all around the world were (in all secrecy) asked by Radio-Canada to record a short video congratulating the band on this important award. As the fans had been chosen so that each would represent one country, they all had to record the message in their own language. Subtitles to all the messages were later added to them and the band members left the ceremony with a DVD of all of them to keep. Thanks Simple Plan.cz for the wrap up. It was a pleasure to get to know Marian,Dominika. Marian, Emelie, Hanine, Jana, Helene, Camila, Julia and Sarumathy. I loved being a part of this and will remember for ever being on TV in Canada while Chuck, Jeff and Pierre were watching!

Whether you are a true Astronaut or not, Everyone knows the song ‘Summer Paradise’, this song took the world by storm leaving citizens around the world humming the tune everywhere they went. The tune of this song is so catchy and upbeat that it’s difficult not to like it! I think this song built up their fan base a lot, as the song was a huge hit here and I know it was big in many other countries too. It reached #59 on the ‘Top 100 Singles Chart of 2012’, even beating One Direction’s ‘Live While We’re Young’! Being summer in Australia right now, this song is a popular favourite that everybody loves to hear. It’s especially popular here because of the first version of the Summer Paradise music video. Australians everywhere were truly touched and amazed when the official music video was released and it showed footage from their 2011 Aussie tour, including clips of them performing on stage, meeting swarms of fans. Simple Plan was so shocked and amazed at the love they received from their fans in Australia, plus they love it here so they decided to film Summer Paradise. I also think that the featured rapper Knaan, was a perfect fit for the rap part in the song. I’m not a huge fan of rap but I love the lyrics and I can actually understand everything fluently enough to sing along).
A while later, the members of Simple Plan began acting suspicious on Twitter dropping little hints on a secret project they had been working on, including having early morning Skype calls with someone to organise the project. None of us really knew what was going on. So then after a few more little clues (which didn’t really help), Simple Plan decided to drop the news. They were going to release another version of Summer Paradise with another special guest who was announced to be Sean Paul! SPX3! Both versions were almost the same except for the rap verses. Sean Paul was excellent even though I think I like Knaan’s rap better, but Sean Paul was able to make the song feel like a Summer Paradise, he brought that type of vibe. When we found out the location of the video shoot, I couldn’t think of a better place. Barbados is the perfect scenery for a Summer Paradise and the guys really proved that when we saw the final video. The camera followed Simple Plan and Sean Paul around while they went out on a boat, a little golfing, playing soccer with some kids (who were helped by their foundation) and even a friendly game of dominoes with the locals. We even felt the warmth when everyone was gathered around the fire singing along. The video was then finished with a little surfing with Pierre and a beautiful view of the sky. We were mesmerised by the breathtaking views of Barbados, not to mention the views of the guys too! You can find both versions of the video on itunes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjHlgrGsLWQ&noredirect=1 You can also find a special ‘Making of’ video on their youtube channel! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kafVU86swFY

Simple plan also released a French version of this song, delighting their French speaking fans. There is something special about listening them in another language! It’s hard for me to not smile whenever I hear the first few beats of this song. Everything about this song is just so positive, upbeat and all about Summer! I think this song is the Pierrefect way to put anyone in a good mood! This song is what pushed me to find out about Simple Plan. I had heard many of their songs before (and loved them!) but I had no idea all of these songs were created by the same band! Every version of the song is truly incredible so it’s really hard for me to pick which video I like better but I think it has to be the first version with Knaan. I just think it’s so awesome that Simple Plan used footage from their Australian tour for the video. What’s your favourite version?

SIMPLE PLAN The Official Story.. The following review of “ Simple Plan -The Official Story” contains quotes from the book, thanks to Kathleen Lavoie. This review also comes with a Spoiler Alert!!! If you have not read the book and want to be surprised, please do not read this review first! I waited with anticipation to hold in my hands my own copy of Simple Plan The Official Story. Living in Australia meant that we had to wait the long 2 to 3 weeks delivery time. I got my French version first; I can read a fair bit of French but not as well as English. With my limited knowledge of French I got the general gist of the story and was able to look at the awesome photos while I waited for the English version. I am going to attempt an unbiased review of the book. I probably will be unable to do this but I figure that readers of this magazine will in fact be Simple Plan fans and wont mind! If you are after an unbiased review you can check out the following review. http://www.lithiummagazine.com/simple-plan-official-story-–-book-review I did not agree with that review fully but this following review I did agree with. This is the full review and the website where I found it. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16112264-simple-plan The popular Quebec band Simple Plan has joined with Éditions La Presse to offer their fans a book that chronicles the stages in its spectacular rise to the top of international music charts. A fascinating combination of photograph album, scrapbook, and biography, Simple Plan's exclusive material consists of hundreds of pictures from tours all over the world and the band members' own memories and personal archives. Journalist Kathleen Lavoie has followed the band's career since their beginnings a decade ago. She has written a lively account of the five young Quebecers' flourishing career, covering multiple facets of their life from their stage performances to their recording session and tours, on the road and by air. Her look at the personal lives of the band members and their life as a group allows readers to step into their world. This abundantly illustrated book will interest and please Simple Plan fans and music lovers in general. It is the story of an inspiring journey that proves, contrary to popular belief, that even happy stories deserve to be told.
I have loved Simple Plan since the first time I heard “I’d Do Anything” and became an even bigger fan when I heard “When I’m Gone”. I knew a fair bit about the beginning of Simple Plan or so I thought when I started reading the book. Reading the forward by Patrick I became even more excited about having the book in my hands. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Patrick for being there to record these special memories for us. The paragraph where he mentions being part of the inner circle and how Simple Plan care for their fans was great. “As part of the bands inner circle, I’ve had the chance of seeing five kids from Quebec achieve something greater than themselves. I’ve seem them brilliantly handle all the challenges in their path. I’ve seen their caring attitude to their fans and the meticulous attention they’ve given to every aspect of their career. I’ve seen a group of friends experiencing incredible success without ever losing touch with reality and without denying or forgetting their roots, their heads firmly set on their shoulders.” Patrick Langlois page 11. Chapter 1
“Back to the Beginning”
This chapter starts way back at the beginning; when Pierre and Chuck were 12 years old. Their love for music brought them together. For Pierre it was easy to move from music lover to music maker but for Chuck it was not that easy. I for one am glad that Chuck found that he loved playing the drums! I loved the part that their French teacher started to use music in his classes, as that is exactly what I do in my teaching job. The photos in this chapter are really interesting as they were ones that I had never seen before. The tour posters and information about their band Roach and Reset really got my attention. To see the original scribbling’s of set lists, song lyrics and tickets are priceless. The remainder of this chapter really brings it home for me how hard the guys worked to get where they are today. Chuck in particular was tireless in sending demos and letters to record companies. Between each chapter is a fact file on each member of Simple Plan. The first one is of Pierre. I am so glad that his favorite song to play live is the acoustic version of “Everyday “ as that is my fav to listen to.
Chapter 2 Now that we have read all about the beginning of the band, the book takes us through ‘No Pads, No Helmets, Just Balls. I researched information on this album while I was a writer for Astronaut Weekly and I wish that I had this book to use as a reference. From this time on the band kept their fans up to date by posting on their web site. In those days it was really forward thinking. Each band member had an email address that they read and replied to fans emails. Think how great it is to get a tweet now from them, to get an email how rad would that be! My fav quote of this chapter is “They were determined and willing to work hard. There was no doubt in my mind that one day, they’d be able to compose and record by themselves.” Lanni. Page 69. It was interesting to me that there was a power struggle in the recording process. Arnold Lanni expected the boys to stand up for themselves and he made them work hard. I am glad he did as the result was my fav SP album. I love that all the members of SP (all 6) spent the time recording the album staying in a little room and when they went out they used a “rent a Wreck” that stank. In true SP style they posted funny videos mostly filmed by Patrick. They liked that Blink had Cheetah and wanted Patrick to be like him. Seb recalls a great moment when they played at Edgefest and some of the crowd were singing along with them. We can read about the early promotional activities of the band and is packed full of information about the making of “I’m Just a Kid” music video. My fav part is on page 84 when we are told of how Pierre, Seb, Jeff and Chuck got an electric shock in the bathtub. I also love the Mark Hoppus connection and that Chuck has kept all the letters and emails they sent to each other. The next few pages are on their Japan tour. It is here that they enjoy their first fan base excitement. Their concerts were sold out weeks before they arrived in Japan. The photos in this section are awesome. The rest of the chapter is about their tour of Japan, America and Australia. As an Aussie I love the pics of them and Kangaroos and Koalas. There are promo pics, cover of magazines, newspaper articles and lyric sheets. Pages 124-125 are all about “Perfect” an anthem of a generation. Yes I admit I shed a few tears when I saw Chucks hand writing when he wrote it. The picture of Pierre singing it live at the Bell Centre in Montreal reminds me when I saw them in Australia twice. Pierre said on page 125 “It’s a very special song, perhaps that one that best defines Simple Plan. Wherever we are in the world, we end our show with ‘Perfect’ I come on stage alone with an acoustic guitar and it is always an incredible moment when I hear the crowd singing every word with me. Whether it’s in Mexico, Spain, Australia or France, it’s the song that everyone sings the loudest, it’s become our Anthem- a classic.”

I love this book. I love in particular how I can see original scribbles of the guys writing the songs I love. I think the book could have done with a few more proofreaders, but I don’t mind a few mistakes when reading the SP story. If you love SP then it is a MUST to get the book. It is the full story of SP and the way they wanted it to be told. I am not alone, read what these SP fans had to say. Brett "This is the only book I hold dear to my heart!'. It is my little escape for an hour or two...just to immerse myself into the worlds of the 5 boys who have impacted so many lives in this universe!, including my own...in the fact that their music and love for us is what keep me going!"
Courtney "These 5 boys have been there for me when it feels like no one else has been. They've helped me through one of the most difficult times someone could ever go through. They continue to inspire me to live like its your last day. I'm extremely thankful to them, they saved my life, and me.
Marly It took me a week to read this, and I read one chapter at a time giving myself a break in between. I love how open the band was through this book. My favourite section was the chapter on the self-titled album for many reasons, especially as it really explained the dynamics behind the making of it and the subsequent views on its popularity. It is really a fantastic read and the photos...a feast for the eyes. I cried reading many sections, and I loved Patrick's forward to the whole book.
@AstronautNor1 Want to know what dreams are made of? Well Simple Plan's Official Story photographic biography is exactly that! Dreams that have come true for SP and fans across the world. I am holding the French version of the Simple Plan official story. My English version is coming next month. I have looked at some of the pictures and can't wait to receive my English version"
Nathaniel - I like how in depth it is. You really get to know all about SP and how hard they worked to get to where they are today. Xander- I can't really pick one thing I like about the book, I like everything about it. Aryan, Awesome.!!! Erin "When I open the book and read the pages it kind of feels just like being in the front row. The glossy pictures and detailed stories make you feel apart of something that is truly special. I have never been more proud.
Sue I would like to start by saying thank you to the SP Crew. It was an honor to, have won a chance to meet them, back in June of 2012.They have truly bought a smile to my face, every time i hear their music.
Kelly "Simple Plan has been my favorite band and inspiration for a few years now. They've made me laugh when I come home wanting to cry and they've made me feel like I wasn't alone anymore. Becoming a fan of theirs is an honor because they're so down-to-Earth and genuine. Thanks to them I've met the greatest, most supportive friends I could ever ask for. With this book, it gives any fan the opportunity to learn about them, from the very beginning and what they went through to be who they are today."
Jen LW I was in tears when I finished the book and it touched my heart so much. This band is the best to ever come out in this world this is how to live life. How they are and how we fans are together. This is the way to change the world and make a difference. I support Simple Plan 100%
Sonia ‌‌ This book is amazing. I finished reading it in only 2 days! Every fan should have this book because with it you can understand how Simple Plan worked so hard to be who they are today. They had funny and bad times but they never gave up. My favourite chapter is the fourth. It is about the self-titled album and is a very touching one. If you haven't read this book yet you have to do it!
THE SIXTH MEMBER OF SP Patrick Langlois
Patrick Langlois has always been referred to as the "sixth member of Simple Plan" by fans because right from the start, he was always by their side. Now, as we begin 2013, some fans may forget Patrick as he hasn't been around Simple Plan that much. If you don’t know, since 2008 Patrick has pursued his own career at Musique Plus. According to his short biography on Twitter, he says he is a columnist for the social media at Ca Commence Bien. Patrick spent many years on the road with Simple Plan, so you would expect they are really close and have a lot of fond memories together. Well, you would be correct! A Big Package For You (ABPFY) is excellent proof of that. The Simple Plan based documentary was filmed by Patrick, where you can see Simple Plan experience the start of their career. The documentary has an extra 9 minutes of Patrick and the guys are seen fighting with him and treating him poorly. The guys and Pat also joke with each other a lot and pull pranks on one another, but who doesn't expect that from a group of guys? Despite that, I believe it to be misleading since all the guys have a close-knit relationship together and they wouldn't have made it as far as they did without the support and love of each other. Some random facts about Patrick: bands he likes are Bowling for Soup, Joey Cape, Blink-182 and Bad Astronaut. He also loves sushi and his favorite TV show is said to be LOST. Patrick also co-hosts the radio show, Man of the Hour (MOTH), broadcast from idobi Radio with Sebastien Lefebvre, since 2006. It is full of their banter, jokes, random stories, phone calls, and great music they've introduced the fans to. Patrick has also confirmed to me via Twitter that Man of the Hour will have an 11th season, but it has not been said when it will be airing. So, MOTH fans, don't fret, the banter will be back soon!
written by Kelly @Imjustakid15
For those of you who bought Simple Plan: The Official Story (I'm hoping it's all of you!), you would know that Patrick has a very heartfelt opening towards the band where he says how proud he is of the guys and how far they've been able to make it in their musical career. He also says how happy he is that he got to travel with his five best friends and be able to document all their experiences, but he never thought that his simple photographs would end up in this book. I may not have been a Simple Plan fan from the very beginning, unlike others, but it is clear to me how important Patrick was. His presence and help (such as passing out CDs and asking people to listen to Simple Plan) was a big influence on the career of the band. He may not be as active as he once was, but in my eyes he's still a strong member of SP to me, even if he doesn't go on stage with them and perform.
News just in! MOTH returns in two weeks!!
What do you get when you get two young men then add some jokes, drinks and an Internet radio? No, you don’t get Hamish and Andy, though they are just as funny! You get the fan favourite Man of the Hour. Which to be honest was never actually an hour long. The brainchild of Sebastien Lefebvre of Simple Plan and the band’s one time Merch and web guy, Patrick Langlois, Man of the Hour (affectionately known as MOTH) was actually first created as a band name. The band consisted of the two of them along with Jaret Reddick from Bowling For Soup though they never wrote any songs, but did have clothing made. The band never came into fruition; however, in 2006 the two friends decided to create a radio show where they could talk about and play their favourite music. With the help of idobi they aired for free on the Internet radio waves. [then on Virgin Radio for a while] The show is available online on idobi.com and as a podcast on iTunes. Each season had ten episodes from varying length of 40 to 50 minutes; rarely did the show reach an hour after the first season. Both Seb and Pat used to joke about this on the show itself. Each season also had a theme song which remained the same melody over the years, but in different arrangements. For each podcast the guys had different photo shoots and several they modelled on pop culture. They have also had guest speakers [Chuck Comeau, Pierre Bouvier…], and several special video shows. Artists/songs/bands that have been featured on the show include such varied groups as Lagwagon, Lana Del Ray, Butch Walker and Rise Against to name a few. Of course, Simple Plan and Sebastien’s music has also been featured.
Half the fun of these shows is the banter between Sebastien and Patrick. Here is an example of the hilarity: Patrick: I’m gonna try to do an informational tid-bit about every band. Seb: Okay Patrick: Tyler… Seb: Is… [both laugh] Patrick: Tyler from All American Rejects Seb: Yes. Patrick: He has a clothing line he just started. It’s called Butter. Seb: So apparently they got a new guy in the band? Patrick: Oh…they do? Seb: Well…who is this Tyler? Isn’t his name…Tyson? [laughs] Patrick: [laughs] I’ve been making that mistake for real since day one. And we were on tour with them in Australia and I was always like: “Hey, Tyler!” Seb: Yeah, not good. Patrick: That’s why we’re not friends. Seb: Yeah, not anymore anyway. Patrick: He just looks right past me. Seb: We’re still friends with Nick, though! Patrick: Nick? Seb: Yeah…sometimes I call him Rick. And Mike…I call him Bike. And, Chris…I call him just….dude. [Thanks Domulka on Tumbr for this quote] They haven’t aired a new season, yet probably due to the duo’s commitments; Patrick is working for a Canadian TV show and of course, Seb has been busy with Simple Plan and his solo project. I can’t speak for others, but I am looking forward to a new season where I may discover new music. I have these two men to thank for introducing me to new songs [eg. Melt the Sugar – The Summer Obsession] and lots of laughs. I definitely recommend you download the podcast off itunes. Unfortunately, season one is no longer available however, you can still get seasons two to ten on iTunes or on the official Man of the Hour site. Links: Manoftheour.ca – Official site. [Links to listen/Download links for seasons 2-10] iTunes – Season 1 Episode 4; Seasons 2 – 10 available for download as free podcasts http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A9bastien_Lefebvre – info on history Image sources: Google Image search and Tumblr.com

BOOK SIGNING...... CANADA Sadly the rest of the world will need to wait for a Sound Check to get their Book signed, Toronto and Ottawa fans were delighted to be able to meet SP and have them sign their books. A friend of mine, called Jen... (Yes I know it is my name but I assure you it is not me!) tells us her story of meeting SP for the first time and getting her book signed.
The Day I met Simple Plan with Caroline at Chapters. I met a girl called Caroline in one of the Simple Plan groups on Facebook. We arranged to meet. I found Caroline just in time as they let us go inside Chapters early. We sat down on the floor. The first SP song they put on was Summer Paradise in French. They played tons of Simple Plan songs from that point on. Megan was sitting beside me, I started chatting with her and then Caroline & I became friends with her, we added each other on Facebook. When the photographer showed up she took photos of us. I started shaking way before Simple Plan showed up and when they came out to get to the stage I saw Chuck drumming away and David bouncing his head to their music. We were so close to the front of the line to go up it went so fast that the guy who took my phone to take photos got nothing. I was so mad that I didn’t get any photos. I got my hugs from each of the guys, I got my autographs, and they got my donation & letter. When I went up I told Pierre “it’s hot in here I am so hot right now”. Pierre hugged me and he said “Yeah you are!” I told Pierre that it was my first time meeting them. Sebastien was next; I had the letters and package on the table and told him what they were before handing him the check straight into his hands. I could tell he was very happy. He tried to get Chuck’s attention saying this is for the sick kids, he said it a few times. Next was Chuck, we hugged I don’t even remember what happened. Then it was David, he was not really saying much but we hugged. I said that I had heard he is the best hugger out of all of Simple Plan. Jeff was next; he came up and hugged me. I mentioned that if I get to go to Montreal that I will try to get to his restaurant and he was happy, he said “You should.” Caroline had to leave, but Megan and I stayed, we went back in to the line like many other fans because they were upset about their photos.
While in line for the second time we got to see and take photos of a part that will be in the video. Megan & I got better photos when we got up this time. We stayed till the end and sure enough we met Sebastien and Chuck again and got more photos. Sebastien came out. He had a box with him full of the gifts. I asked Seb if he was very happy with the donations he said “Yes” then he was saying “Oh yeah gotta go make sure Chuck gets that box and he left. I reminded him about the donations. Pierre came by with loads of security around him while he posed for more photos with fans. Seb left and then Chuck came by and I asked him if he got the check and he had it in his pocket. I wished each of them to have a good concert. While I had to head back to the train station, Megan was on her way to the ACC for the concert, I swear Simple Plan drove right by us in a white van on the way to the concert. I saw Pierre’s hair. I needed this SP Day due to some things in my life going bad. Well guess now I can say that “This Song Saved My Life.” No wonder this song was stuck in my head the whole night. Simple Plan helped once again. This day was meant to happen and happened for a reason. Simple Plan are the sweetest, nicest, sexiest, and hottest rock stars in Canada. They are worth loving and having in your life, we need more of them in the world. We have the best family out there, Astronauts stick up for each other and are there for each other. I’m very happy with meeting two wonderful SP fans Caroline & Megan, we will keep in touch and remain friends. We met for the first time when meeting SP for the first time. Thank You so much Simple Plan.

December Twitter Talk
David – After checking out a concert back home and
enjoying some of his favourite cheese, David reassured us that he was ok after his little accident and warned fans about the dangers associated with texting and playing with GP’s while driving. Even though his time in Mumbai was short he was able to take in some of the sites on the back of a Royal Enfield, and even pick up a pretty sick jacket. After packing for his journey home, David sent fans a special Christmas message though the following tweet – Merry Xmas everyone and a happy new year... I'm checking out... Love y'all... Peace! But all too soon, the cold got the better of him and he packed his bike in the van and hit the road. Look out Florida, David’s coming.
Jeff
– Jeff kicked of the month with what might be an early NY’s resolution, to tone down his SMS use (Please Jeff, don’t include Tweets in that pledge). Then it was off to Toronto, where he brought a new hat from someone that “Used to listen to his band”. He encouraged us all to do something nice for a stranger, before tweeting pics from the SP Official Story book signing. Jeff was wishing he could go back to sleep, but knew he had to be up and moving for a full day of interviews and publicity for the book. Then it was time to relax, and get weird. Hmmm, what was Jeff getting up to in LA at 2 in the morning ;) After partying a little too hard, Jeff’s Californication came to an end and he headed home, where hats, boots and gloves were all needed to face the cold. Getting in the Christmas spirit, Jeff shared his amazing tree with us all. Before letting us know how excited he was to be heading to Mumbai. He stocked up on music, and was looking forward to the holidays where he could have the opportunity to catch up on it all. With Christmas upon us, he gave fans a reality check posting a picture of what he had just seen on the streets of his home in -15c temps. Christmas day was spent cooking dinner, and then with snow storms in the days following, Jeff took some time out to enjoy the simple things in life, snuggling up under a blanket, and enjoying a few movies while his kids slept. Then it was time to rock in the New Year at his new Bar, Edgars.
Written by Leeann, @adnaxar
Pierre
– A quick gold lesson, and it was time to board the plane for what was going to be a very busy day in Toronto. After arriving at his destination Pierre and the guys spent a few hours at charters indigo on Richmond, meeting fans and signing copies of the book. Pierre reassured fans that no matter where you were in the world, you could obtain a copy of the books. The guys got into the Christmas spirit performing as part of Much Music’s The Big Jingle, and even though it was early, the guys were still up and ready for the their appearance on breakfast television. Book signing can be dangerous according to Pierre, and he has the paper cut to prove it, but that didn’t slow him down in Mumbai.
Sebastien
– With snow on the roof tops, and Christmas just around the corner, Seb kicked off the month with a free download from him and Katie. Chuck and Seb took some time out to chat with fans via a live chat before heading to Toronto for the book launch, an appearance on the Big Jingle and more publicity. With some much needed time off, Seb had some time to work on some new tracks with his bro, and dabble in the producers chair on some projects. There were times that Seb sent out the odd tweet that left followers scratching their heads (or holding their noses) but let’s face it, that’s the Seb we know and love. The end of the month saw Seb packing his case (even if his cat didn’t want him too) and heading off to India with a 5 hour layover in Frankfurt, just long enough for a quick game of hide and seek in the airport. Fans were also treated to another free download, this time Les Robots, and then it was time to eat his step dads Christmas cake (I don’t think he went over board) drink and reflect on the year that was.
Chuck
– Chuck’s month started with him sharing pics on his instagram account and a game of golf, before it was time to start the media junket again. In Toronto, Chuck started the day doing a live chat with Seb, followed by the book signing at Chapters Indigo and then performing that night at Much Music’s Big Jingle and followed the next day by back to back interviews. Never one to let fans down, Chuck held a Q&A on twitter which resulted in #AskChuck trending worldwide. More golf, a little fun in his new ride and a chance to take in a concert or two during his down time. Chuck headed out to India before the others, and used his time to take in the country and share some of what he saw with fans, such as the traffic jams and fan’s queuing for the SP concert (You can check out the pics of Chucks Indian adventures on his official instagram page or the Simple Plan website, so worth a look). Back home for a little time out, Chuck wished us all a very Merry Christmas and as 2012 drew to an end, Chuck reflected on what an awesome year it had been, and asked fans to share their #BestMemories2012.
January Twitter Talk David
– Hitting the road with a couple of ‘hot asses’ riding shot gun David put the winter snow behind him and headed off to his own winter paradise.
Sebastien
– Only a few days in, and Seb
was already tweeting how awesome 2013 was so far. When Seb tweeted wishing they made more baby stuff for grown up, I didn’t ask him to elaborate, instead I just looked at his previous tweet, that ‘Smiles are free’. Clearly he was enjoying his vacation in Cambodia. (Can someone please explain the Tomb Raider references to me tho???) Even tho he couldn’t be with them, Seb congratulated the rest of the guys on their personality of the year win, and reassured fans that everything was fine (contrary to Jeff’s tweets on the matter, but more of that later) when he missed his first ever SP performance, something he was a little bummed about. Back home he was looking forward to a home cooked meal and getting back to the studio where he hoped to make some ‘melodies come alive’.
Pierre– Pierre must have been enjoying having a little R&R tweeting only twice this month. Firstly about his appearance on radio Canada, and then again with a pic just before the outdoor show in Montreal. Man, he looks cold ☹
Written by Leeann, @adnaxar
Jeff – After wishing everyone a happy New Year, Jeff tweeted ‘May 2013 be filled
with love, health and fulfilment for all of you.’ A perfect start to the NY, I thought. He joked about it taking a while to get used to writing 2013, saying it might look something like this for a little while. Unlike some of the other guys, Jeff stayed close to home this month choosing to see the Hobbit (which he almost fell asleep watching). A few days later Jeff was hit with a bout of food poisoning, but it didn’t seem to last long. Having updated his Mac gear (which apparently took hours) it was time to do some damage on iTunes before the start of another crazy week. Jeff managed to take down his Christmas tree (apparently last year it was May before that job got done). Apparently ordering a taxi to deliver you a poutine at 1am could be considered weird. Or could it just be the fact that it was a Friday night, and Jeff was sober? Jeff was overwhelmed over their personality of the year win, tweeting “Proud of my band!!!! And prouder of our fans!!!!!!!!!!!” Having their gear stuck in India was stressing him out a bit, but he was determined to make it work. I think the birthday of one of his little ones might have helped get his mind off of things tho. Jeff played in the snow (literally) out the front of the Bell Centre. I know it can get cold in Canada, but I really don’t think it was -1,000,000 Celsius as Jeff claimed it to be. Jeff, feel free to come back to oz where it’s been over 30C for the past few weeks, and while you’re at it, you could send me your number should you get a new one. I promise I won’t send you weird text messages (maybe some inappropriate ones, but never any weird ones).
Chuck
– Chuck kicked off the New Year with a round of golf in Palm Springs with his dad, although I don’t think they were using the Bat Mobile as their gold buggy. While Jeff was shivering back home, Chuck was sea side in Santa Monica and enjoying a little court action at the NBA before heading off to Arizona. The Grand Canyon looked unreal, especially the shots Chock posted via his many social networks, then it was off to Vegas Baby! But we all know, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, except when it comes to Chuck’s pics that is. Back home, Chuck was both amazed and humbly honoured by their award win, and made special mention of the fans who participated in the award ceremony via there DVD’s (Yeap Jen, Chuck thanked ‘YOU!’) Chuck caught up with the guys from All Time Low, which resulted in some very interesting tweets then later in the week it was what time for their free concert at the Bell Centre, something which Chuck considered their way of thanking the fans. Having rocked it out in the snow, it was time for the guys, the crew and their families to enjoy the start of the hockey season. For those who have access to Twitter, I advise you check out the posts Chuck tweeted on the 13th anniversary of SP. In true Chuck style, it’s inspirational, and just further strengthens my love for SP.
SIMPLE PLAN AT HOCKEY NIGHT CANADA On January 19th Simple Plan played a free show in Montreal in front of the Bell Centre to celebrate the beginning of the 60th Hockey season. Many fans were there from 7:00 a.m. to see the band. The sound check was done in a snow storm. Daryn Jones and Rebecca Makonnen were on stage to host the event. Before their performance, DJ Champion and the mascot Youppi! entertained the crowd. During the day, Seb wrote on twitter that he couldn’t take part in the show because he was still in Asia (Cambodia). Obviously the guys took this opportunity to joke, in fact Jeff wrote to him on twitter “see you soon brother! Don't worry, your explosive diarrhoea will pass ;-)”. For only that night, Patrick Bouchard, Marie- Mai’s guitarist, took Seb’s place. It was the first time in 10 years that Sebastien missed a show with the guys. At 5:30 p.m. the guys finally hit the stage with a thousand astronauts and hockey fans in front of them. In the first song Pierre said to the crowd “Hockey is back. Put your hands up!” The band played a part of their set list songs, like Shut Up!, Jump, Jet Lag and Summer Paradise, which this last one has been played during a snowfall. After the show the guys went to the Bell Centre to watch the first Montreal Canadiens game of the year! Unfortunately to our idols the match between Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadien was won by Toronto Maple Leafs. All the fans that were outside the Bell Centre had the opportunity to watch the match on a big screen that had been installed for that event. Every fan that was there said that it was amazing, even with the cold and at times annoying snowfall.

A: 2 years approx. Q: How many times have you seen them live? A: Sadly once. Q: What do you like the most about Simple Plan? A: That they are awesome people, they do everything to help unlucky people and fans, they save lives. Their songs explain a lot of things than my mouth never could. Q: What’s your favorite SP Possession? A: The Seb’s nib autographed by Pierre, I got it at the SP concert in Mexico City, it means a lot for me because asjbnasidbai, just the fact that I had something that they used in a concert. Q: Say what Simple Plan means to you. A: It means life for me. I hear their music every day, I enjoy it so much. They explain in songs what I feel about everything and the more importantly, they write about life, just that. It also means friendship, they are so close to each other, they are the same guys!! Q: Describe each member with one word. N: Dave- Crazy Jeff- Wrestler Pierre- The Smiles Seb- Hipster Chuck- Funny guy Q: Favorite Simple Plan song and why? A: This is a real hard question… I think Astronaut or Your Love Is A Lie, Astronaut because I feel lonely sometimes and it seems like nobody is there for me, Your love is a Lie because it explains my problems that I had with ladies… Q: Do you have any tattoo related to Simple Plan? And if you, don’t would you like to have one? A: Yes, I would like to do it in my ankle. Q: What’s your favorite part of ABPFY? A: OMG! Really hard question, I think when they did the “Perfect” video and when they made the “Simple Plan in Mexico”
Q: If you could ship each member with other artist, with whom would it be and why? A: I would ship Pierre with Alex Gaskarth because I think they have so much in common, it would be like 2 idiots, 2 heros, 2 different adventures, I don’t know, it would be great! A: They absolutely saved my life and I’m so proud of them because their work is the best thing that they could do. Q: Okay, now pick 2 songs off the No Pads album and say what you think is the real meanings behind them: A: Addicted: I think this song talks about a couple that breaks up and “he” is addicted to her, but also in one part of this song (I’m not sure) says: “I’m a dick” that I think it means like “I’m a stupid”… I’m Just A Kid: Well, this song tells about the feelings and thoughts that you had when you were a kid, that nobody gets you, I think that SP did it with the sense they had, the perspective they had about themselves when they were younger, each member of SP had his own perspective that they used to be. Q: Favorite lyrics off No Pads? “Hey dad look at me Think back and talk to me Did I grow up according to plan? And do you think I'm wasting my time doing things I wanna do? To write love on her arms.
written by @justjenrees
Simple Plan are passionate about helping young people, saving lives and helping them. This is a great organisation that is really helping young people. On the First of December Emma, our magazine photographer and I headed down to see A Sleepless Melody who I interviewed in our last edition. They were headlining a concert to raise awareness of Suicide and Depression. Other bands playing were Built on Secrets, The Monster goes Rawr, For this Cause and The Sweet Apes. This event was organised by Paper People and was a huge success. As well as the bands playing a member of the team from the Organisation “To write love on her arms” Joel Taylor explained how they came about and ran some activities that pointed out to the crowd how important it is too be aware of how others are feeling. We wrote on a card “I know how you feel” and we swapped them in the middle of a circle when a statement was read out. Overwhelmingly it was obvious that the whole crowd had been touched by someone experiencing depression either themselves or a friend or family member. After many statements such as “I sometimes feel worthless all of us had swapped their card with someone else numerous times. We got to keep the card that we had left in our hands. This was a brilliant way to highlight to us all that we experience the same feelings and emotions. In previous editions we have explored how music can make a difference in our lives as well as help us feel better and less alone. This organisation, “To write love on her arms” is a organisation that I can imagine that the boys would be proud of us to be involved in. Their mission statement that is found on their website http://www.twloha.com.au Part of it is here, You were created to love and be loved. You were meant to live life in relationship with other people, to know and be known. You need to know that your story is important and that you’re part of a bigger story. You need to know that your life matters. We live in a difficult world. We believe that everyone can relate to pain, that all of us live with questions, and all of us get stuck in moments. You need to know that you’re not alone in the places you feel stuck. There is more information on the website. Please take the time to read it and like their facebook page http://www.facebook.com/towriteloveonherarms?fref=ts I can think of a few SP songs that lyrics reflect the message that this organisation promotes. The bands. Both Emma and I enjoyed all the bands that played that day. To kick the afternoon off was The Monster Goes Rawr. I have liked these guys for a while and this was the first opportunity to see them live. Max the lead singer lived up to his reputation of being super energetic. This band certainly knows how to perform and keep the audience attention. They played a few of their best songs plus a cover of One Direction’s “You don’t know you’re Beautiful.” After their set I told Max never to do a One Direction again and he agreed that it was perhaps not the best idea to cover them for the crowd that was present. All the band were happy to have their photo taken with us and we had a good long chat with them.
Next up were The Sweet Apes but did not see them as we were talking to the guys from The Monster goes Rawr. But they sounded good. I got two tees of theirs they are really nice. Check out their Facebook page here. http://www.facebook.com/TheSweetApes?ref=ts&fref=ts
For this Cause took the stage next, and played a solid set of potential hits. Their CD “Cities have stories “ is worth buying you can purchase it here https://itunes.apple.com/au/album/cities-have-stories/id573102489?ign-mpt=uo%3D4 Check out their facebook page here. http://www.facebook.com/forthiscause?fref=ts I also purchased some of their Merch as well. Check out their store here http://www.facebook.com/forthiscause/app_150178545006427 Then it was Built on Secrets turn on the stage. These guys certainly know how to put on a show. I am really looking forward to seeing them again. Their facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/builtonsecrets?fref=ts They have done a cover of Little Things by One Direction that I love much better than the original. Link is on their Facebook page. I also got some great merch from them, their black singlet is one of the best band singlets I have. If you know me well I have A LOT of band merch. A Sleepless Melody came on and really got the crowd going. Most of the people there were fans and we all knew the lyrics and sang along. Their harmonies are out of this world. Talent seriously drips from these boys but they are so down to earth and great with fans. Sound similar to SP? I felt that there were. If you missed last edition and the interview that I did with Matthew, check it out here. http://issuu.com/jensp/docs/simpleplanspaceed5 The way the stage was set up they were on our level and Emma and I were front row. I am really looking forward to seeing A Sleepless Melody again. I hope they announce their shows for this year and Melbourne is included a lot!
Masketta Fall On the 15th of December two members of Masketta Fall were celebrating a birthday so the band decided to have a birthday party and invite their loyal fans who had seen them live and supported them when they were starting out. This concept was a huge success, the concert/party sold out and they added two more of them. Two concerts in Melbourne then one in Brisbane where the band also has a solid fan base. The concert/party was a dress up party, the band dressed up as the Village People. The audience were mainly dressed up in Onsies, superheros as well as Disney Characters. One girl went as a piece of Leggo and she won the best-dressed award and got to go on stage with them. I went as a dinosaur as I was one of the oldest people there! As well as the concert itself there was a party room with Jamie Ross (MF drummer) was a DJ. There was food, drink as well as a cute Masketta Fall dog cake. Supporting Masketta Fall were two other great bands. Wake the Giants opened and had a fantastic stage presence and got everyone in the party mood. I met the lead singer Colby and really enjoyed chatting with him. We caught up on some mutual friends news. Emma (our photographer) and I got some shots with him and purchased some merch. Please look them up on face book here http://www.facebook.com/wakethegiants?fref=ts and like their page and check out their music. The next band was Forever Ends Here. This energetic band delighted the fans with their fun stage antics and their cover of Gangham style was great. They asked fans to get up on stage with them and dance and sing. Please check out their face book page here.. and check their music out as well. http://www.facebook.com/foreverendshere?fref=ts Masketta Fall were fantastic once again live. Their fans are really loyal and I was surprised to see how many people I knew in the crowd. I met up with a few Facebook friends as well one girl I met through selling her a spare ticket that I had and we got on well. Later that week she got the first ever Masketta Fall tatt, check out their face book page if you want to see it ‌‌

The set list was their EP plus some covers. They covered GC’s Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous and the crowd went mad, including me, GC is one of my fav bands. I admit that I jumped and screamed during the song like a teenager, which was ok as everyone else was in fact a teenager and behaving the same way! They also covered Teenage Dirtbag, and The greatest song in the world which rocked ccc . The last song, “So Contagious” was an unforgettable moment. The bubble machine was going full blast, everyone was pumped and the band was in awe that so many people were screaming the lyrics at them. After the show they did the usual meet and greet and made every fan feel special. When band members like them call me by name I admit I love it. ;) If you have not listened to Masketta Fall do yourself a favour and please take the time to. They often have specials on their merch so I advise you to like their Facebook page and stay tuned. I will not hesitate to go and see them again, a band that hand delivers their EP on my daughters birthday will always have my support. I have high hopes that this band will make it big and I hope they do, like SP have done, always be great to their fans. We had an awesome time and look forward to many more concerts in the future!
Something Beautiful
Last year Masketta Fall asked if anyone was interested in being in a music video for their new single “Something Beautiful”. We were to email them if interested and I did as well as my two kids. We were all given some lyrics that we were to write either on a poster or be creative. Quite a few of my friends applied as well and sent in their photos with lyrics on it that were assigned to them. The result was an awesome music video that many of their fans that liked them from the beginning had contributed to. Sadly some fans missed out, as there was a mix up with the lyrics that were sent out. I got the same as a friend of mine so I emailed the band and was asked to redo mine. When the music video was released we did not know who would be in it. Emma and I were included but not my son or a few of my best friends BUT it was a success as so many people were in it. A few fans went way out with their ideas such as under water shots, and painting on walls. This concept was a huge success as not only did fans get involved but they watched it over and over. A few fans were disappointed and I think that it would have been better not to say that fans would be included but they maybe included. Check out the video here, with a few of the writers of this magazine and Photographers included! It is a great song as well!

The Monster Goes Rawrr Concert Review This was my first time seeing any of the bands playing live. The Monster Goes Rawrr with Call The Shots and Set The Record as supports. I was so excited! The first band on was Set The Record. I wasn't too familiar with them, but they were fantastic! They definitely gained a new fan. Call The Shots were the next to perform, and the one I was personally most looking forward to. Again, they were fantastic! Their setlist was amazing as well. They played a few new songs which I hadn't heard before, but enough older ones to keep everyone singing along and having a good time. And I may have had a tiny freak out when Josh (lead vocals) got right in my face midway through a song...so bonus points for crowd interaction there! The Monster Goes Rawrr were definitely a great finish to the night. They have so much energy when they perform, it's contagious. I'm sure they got everyone in the room jumping. They played a new song which no one knew, but they evened it out with covering One Direction- What Makes You Beautiful, which whether you love it or hate it, you know it, so it got the crowd singing along. Their set was awesome and Max (lead vocals) and Ross (bass) took their shirts off near the end of the set which was definitely a nice finish! Afterwards sadly I was too shy to go up to any of the bands besides Call The Shots to get hugs, photos and stuff signed. And I don't care what people say, Josh does give the best hugs! For the first time in my life though I didn't mind being short, Dion (CTS guitarist) picked me up and Josh gave me a piggyback! *cue extreme fan girling* I can't wait until March which is when The Monster Goes Rawrr is supporting Nine Sons Of Dan on their tour which will be the next time I see them. written by @sianiigoesrawrr

Brisbane Concert Review
This being my first Masketta Fall concert, I was more than excited to see them perform. After hearing about how good the were live I was expecting a pretty amazing show and I have to say, I was not at all disappointed! They were amazing! Their crowd interaction was incredible and the covers performed had everyone in the room singing along. The supports were Set The Record, Call The Shots and Wake The Giants. Each were amazing, even more so than I had expected. Sets had to be cut short, but even within the short time they were on stage, each band managed to captivate the audience and put on one hell of a performance. Masketta Fall had amazing crowd interaction and performed covers that got everyone singing, along with their original tracks. For a smaller band, they definitely know how to work a crowd and it made the concert so amazing, it was one of the better concerts I've been to. After the show, all the members from each band just came outside and hung out for a while. I was so nervous yet excited to meet them! There were lots of hugs and lots of things getting signed. All the band members seemed more than happy to spend time talking to everyone and it definitely made everyone feel that extra bit special.
Blink-182 DOgs Eating DOgs Just before Christmas Blink 182 decided to give us a little Christmas gift. The pop punk trio released their EP “Dogs Eating Dogs” on December the 18th. This EP is far superior than their previous album “Neighbourhoods”. The 5 songs on this EP were written when they shut themselves in a studio for a week. This was a great idea as these 5 songs are definitely far more like the Blink 182 style that fans love. The first song is called “When I Was Young” It’s like a flashback to when we are kids and don’t have a care in the world. This song is full of the power chords and drumbeat that Blink is famous for. The next track is the title track “Dogs Eating Dogs”. Mark does the lead vocals and the lyrics are thought provoking. This song made me reflect on why people are so quick to be mean to each other. The third song takes an even sadder focus and is called “Disaster”. In this song the lyrics tackle death and is quiet depressing. Lyrics such as “Your soul it will float like a dove” do not bring up happy images but I actually feel that this song is the best on the EP. The next song called” Boxing Day” is a story of Blink’s break up. This acoustic song is almost like a love song between the band members that they are singing to each other. If you are a Blink fan you will know that the concert that was cancelled when they broke up was on Boxing Day. The final song on the EP “Pretty Little Girl” has a guest rapper called Yelawolf in it, although I would rather the song with out it. It almost sounds like it was a late addition and the song does not flow as well as it could. The concept of following Tom as he sings about a relationship from its start to growing old is great. I am really pleased with the EP after the disappointment I felt when I first listened to “Neighbourhoods”. I wait with anticipation for their next CD and of course I am looking forward to seeing them live at Sound Wave in March. I hope Blink fans agree with me and I encourage you to purchase this EP. written by

CRAzY WORLD A good friend of mine Brett told me that this album was worth checking out and I agreed to give it a listen. I instantly connected with the catchy tunes and the lyrics I could really identify with. If you like All Time Low chances are that you will love this album. Boys like Girls originate from Boston and was classed Emo Pop with a slight Country twang. Some fans were disappointed with their last album Love Drunk. With a new bassist in the band (Morgan Dorr) after Donahue left, they have moved on from the genre of Emo pop to move into the Country pop type. Boys Like Girls new sound is far from their first album when they were compared to Fall Out Boy. This album sounds more like a Train album. The band has copped a fair bit of media flack for this but I really like this album. The Album kicks off with “First Time” The chorus is bursting with energy and the whole concept of not being 18 again and seeing old friends makes this song easy on the ear. “Life of the Party” is a fast beat song that gets your feet tapping, probably a bit too country for my liking but still worth a listen. The title track is the track that I cannot get out of my head. This to me is the standout track and I love it. Johnston’s vocals are perfect in this song. The ballad of “Be Your Everything’” is by far the best ballad that this band has written. “Stuck in the Middle” is a straight pop rock song that words really spoke to me. “Cheated” again spoke to me, I could have written this song from my personal experience. The chorus is perfection, complete perfection. “Shoot” is good but very similar to their previous song “First Time” and is way to country for me. The next few tracks are great but the last song “Hey You” is by far the best song that this band has written hands down. The more I listen to this album I like it! I encourage you to give this album a listen and not the critics. As a Simple Plan fan you would know that music critics are often wrong and we should certainly tell the to “Shut Up” when it comes to this album. Check out their Facebook page for all the details . http://www.facebook.com/boyslikegirls?fref=ts
