EDITORS NOTE Hey Readers, This edition is packed full of Warped articles for you and I hope you enjoy reading all about the history of Warped Tour as well as the Australian Warped Tour of 2013. I certainly enjoyed experiencing it. This summer has flown for me and this edition has sure kept me busy. After Warped and Christmas the team has had a well deserved break and now we are back in full force. Thanks to all the bands for their time answering my questions and the Photographers who have let me use their pics. Thanks once again to all our team and for Domi at simpleplan.cz. Next month we will be interviewing Time to Fly, a French pop punk band and focusing on the new SP EP. A few people have mentioned that some our facts were wrong last edition and the design is not very good. We are just a team of writers doing this for fun, not professional journalists. Relax people! I mean even the writer and proof readers of the SP book got David’s birthday wrong! Cant wait to see what Simple Plan get up to in 2014! Peace, Jen @justjenrees

GYHO the second coming....... Simple Plan released thier new EP in December. (November for Australia) Next month we are reviewing the EP so send us your thoughts on it to simpleplanspace@gmail.com. This month we are looking at The Rest of us, as the song of the month.
”The Rest Of Us” Title: The Rest Of Us Album: Get Your Heart On – The Second Coming! EP Release: December 3rd Genre: Alternative rock, pop punk, pop rock Length: 3:13 minutes Label: Atlantic Records

Simple Plan wrote about 75 songs for their fourth studio album Get Your Heart On! that was released back in 2011. The band had to let go of a few songs they still felt very strongly about. Since Simple Plan put their hearts and souls into their albums, it takes time to produce them. Fans are hungry for more music and the band therefore decided that they’d give us something to keep the waiting for the fifth album a lot easier. “We wanted to keep you fans happy” said Pierre in the release video of the EP. Some songs were written for the GYHO album about three years ago and some of them were written specifically for the EP. As always Simple Plan makes another word play. The title of the EP is “Get Your Heart On – The Second Coming!” and it has seven tracks. “The Rest Of Us” is an up-tempo song with a happy kind of sound. It gives you energy and the lyrics speak to both the band and the fans all around the world. The song is, according to Pierre, representing the EP well. “We may be different but we can still achieve great things. It’s about being proud to be different; it’s okay to be different.” The energetic melody and high tempo makes it hard for you not to move when you hear it and the heavy beat and drums make this one of my own personal favorites. On the release date of the EP an official music video of “The Rest Of Us” was uploaded on the Simple Plan YouTube channel. It’s footage from the GYHO tour and we get to see footages both on and off stage. It’s a funny video and it fits perfectly for this type of song and message. In the verses we get to see “behind the stage” footage and the guys being in the tour bus, exploring a city and being funny. In the chorus we see footage from shows all over the world, which is very powerful. Sweden is being said to be represented in the video by arrowbox on Twitter. You can check out the video here:
Fans thoughts about the song: I LOVE IT SO MUCH. The melodies make me instantly happy and I kinda feel that the lyrics bring people together, like you can connect with the feeling of being a freak or loser and you don’t feel alone cause it unites us all. – Nancy, The Netherlands I think it is an amazing song. It really stays in your head easy. A lot of people, like me, can relate. – Sara, Belgium The song is not my favorite song of the EP bu tit is probably my second. My fav line for sure of the whole EP is “I don’t need to be a billionaire so freaking bad”. A very clean play on words from a song that was written about greed and I love how Simple plan can make fun of mainstream music. This song’s meaning is great, it brings all the people together that has ever felt like an outsider and we can say “cheers” to us. Another great song that SP has written for their fans that put up with coping flak for being their fans. – Jen, Australia This is MY FAV off the EP NOW!! It’s about helping all the people who get left out and felt like they were not good enough and to make them feel like they are important as well! Not just not the “rich and the fabulous”! About accepting people for who they are! – Brett, Australia It’s a really great song! I love it. The music fills me with energy and the lyrics are just... well, you know, it’s Simple Plan. It’s perfect. – MariamAstronaut, Slovakia I laugh my ass off every time I listen to it, but the nI realize just how serious it is. It’s a “let’s get back to all of those who said we weren’t good enough” kind of song, and it gets me pumped, it gets me ready to fight all the bitches in the world. – MissEmelie_, Sweden When I first heard the preview of this song I was like “not bad, I like it” but when I heard the whole song I was like “wow, this is awesome, I have to listen to it again” and I listened to it again and again and again. It’s so powerful, energy and the lyrics are at the same time funny and meaningful. I love this song and I could listen to it forever… like all the other songs from SP. – jenelaSP96, Serbia I read a lot about The Rest Of Us, many comments like “Simple Plan has changed” and well, it’s evident that they’ve changed the musical field, proving many new harmonies. But as persons they are still the same guys who met years ago. I think that “The Rest Of Us” is that. They are saying: “We are this, don’t need more and we aren’t alone.” Because they’ve met us and we’ve met them. “I know why I’m not alone…” The Astronauts know that there are going to be as they’ve done since 2002. “The Rest Of Us” is a song that tells you to be happy with the person who you are. Makes me dance, it’s my favorite from the EP, along with the other 6 songs. – ijossc, Mexico
"The Rest Of Us" I'm okay, I'm okay, Kinda being awkward socially With the fact, with that girls Don't lose their shit when they look at me It's okay, it's okay, That I'm not that good at anything And I don't hit the notes perfectly When I try to sing Oh-oh I know why I'm not alone So turn the music up and let go Chorus I'm okay, I'm okay I don't need to be a billionaire (So fricking bad!) And my trust fund hopes are looking sad I confess, I'm a mess I'm perfectly dysfunctional But I don't give a damn If you feel the same Let me hear you sing Oh-oh I know why I'm not alone So turn the music up and let go

HISTORY of Warped TOUR
Vans Warped Tour is THE touring festival when it comes to punk/rock and it is something every punk-rocker dreams of attending. But when and where did it start? And why would someone start something like this? Warped Tour was created in 1994 (20 years ago) and hit its first states in 1995 by Kevin Kyman as he was working on skateboarding shows which included music while anyone attending the show could compete in skateboarding. “Warped” comes from the magazine Warp Magazine (May it rest in peace) which covered both sports such as skateboarding and music. Ever since its start, Warped Tour has always been held outdoors. It has however, been held indoors due to extreme weather and the outdoor venue not being available – this happened in Washington D.C. 1996. The tour started off strong in 1995 and as it became more and more successful, it was time to go international. In 1998, Warped Tour hit Australia, Japan, Europe, Canada and of course, United States of America. Although music is what Warped Tour is known for, it brings many other attractions such as bikers and skaters. Each band also has the opportunity to sell their merchandise in their very own merch-tent where they also can meet their fans, take pictures and sign autographs, something Warped Tour is much known for and magazines got the opportunity to meet their readers. With the environment being in focus and global warming being an issue across the world, Warped Tour went eco in 2006, using bio-diesel fuel for all of their buses and has in fact, reduced petroleum by 30% since 2006. And equally awesome, all stages are run by solar-energy. Talk about taking responsibility! In 2012, it was once again time for Warped Tour to leave North America, something that hadn’t happened since 1998 and head back to the United Kingdom. And since December 2013, Warped Tour is back to stay in Australia. Vans Warped Tour has featured the biggest bands in the punk/rock scene since its start and here are some we remember and love: 30 seconds to Mars (2007), A day to remember (2008, 2009 & 2011), All Time Low (2007, 2008, 2009 & 2011), Blink 182 (1996, 1997, 2000 & 2002) and of course, Simple Plan (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2012). With bands like these and what you can expect of Warped Tour, this seems like a punk/rocker’s definition of Paradise.

Simple Plan at Warped WARPED 1999
Even though the Warped Tour began in 1995, Simple Plan performed for the first time in 1999 (of course, before they were Simple Plan). In this Warped, bands like Blink-182 and Suicidal Tendencies played, besides Eminem! Here's the line-up of the event. For those who like Blink-182, here's a video of them performing "What's My Age Again" in Miami. In this website, there's a note saying that the Warped officially announced the line-up of the 99's Festival. Check it out!
WARPED 2000
This Warped took place in US and it counted with bands like Green Day, Blink-182 and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Check here the line-up of the event. And for you who missed The Bosstones, here's a video of them on the Warped! The vocalist gives a little interview, in which he says about the Festival and the record they were going to release. Worth checking it out! This Warped was announced as the biggest until that moment, with so many bands and so many athletes and happening in cities like Las Vegas. Besides this, the event of this year counted with the brand new website warpedtour.com and for the first time the ones that wanted to go could buy their tickets online. Check more details here.
Warped Tour 2001 This year's Warped counted with 42 dates of intense heat of the North America summer. With bands like Sum 41, Good Charlotte and our loved Simple Plan, the event was a success. See the LIne up here. Check this video of the vertical ramp of that year's event. As always, the event had a compilation, in this website you can check 2001's compilation. It has songs of New Found Glory and Sum 41.
Warped Tour 2002
Well, I guess this was a great Warped, because it included bands like Yellow card, New Found Glory (again), Bad Religion, our Simple Plan and other bands.
Check it out here!
Furthermore, it was released, besides the compilation, that has every year, a DVD named "Vans Warped Tour Live" which has performances of 2002's Warped as much as backstage. Nicotine also played at the festival, and I found a video of Simple Plan with them.
Warped 2003 Once again, Sum 41, Yellowcard and Simple Plan performed in this Warped, besides great bands like The All-Americans Rejects and AFI, that surely made the festival even better than it was. The festival goes from June 19th to August 10th, as you can see here. And the bands are these bands. I found a great video of Simple Plan at the event, in which they comment about their rituals before a show. Of course, there's a lot of jokes in it. Watch it here. Also, here's a video of The Used on stage in which you can see the guys!
Warped 2004 This was a huge Warped! It included so many great bands that it's impossible to choose one as the best. With bands like Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Avenged Sevenfold and Good Charlotte, the festival was a success!! Check here the dates and bands of the events: This was the 10th anniversary of the event, that's why it was such a big Warped. Check here a video of Blink 182 talking about the festival.
Warped 2005 Even though this Warped wasn't as big as the last one (of course, this one isn't a commemorative edition), it was also great! Like if a festival like this could not be awesome! So, bands like Funeral For a Friend, MXPX and The Offspring had the chance to perform in this edition. Check all bands here And here's the compilation of the year! It is totally worth listening to it, because there are great songs of great artists like Sunshine Highway, from Dropkick Murphys.

Tonight Alive had confirmed an interview with me however it was difficult for the band to answer the questions over the Christmas break. Hopefully they will be happy to work on those in the next few months.
Tonight Alive album review (The Other Side) I had have never listened to Tonight Alive before and I found them to be really good, they have a different sound which is great. I found the song “Bath water” really well written, it said to me that they didn’t want the relationship to stop but you did. Much like a relationship in the way it’s great but it’s slowly driving you insane. One of my personal favourites is “Come Home”. This song was really catchy and had a deep meaning a lot like All Time Low songs. It really reflected on me with the way the lyrics are. To me they mean when you have a fight with a friend or girlfriend you just wait for things to come back around. This album it keeping the relationship trend going with the song “Complexes” to me it’s about a relationship that’s falling apart and the other person has given up on the relationship. This band picks up the pace when the chorus comes around and it makes you pay attention to the song and not get distracted. Where do I start with the song “Lonely Girl” it just grabs you right from the start! The sound of this song reminds me of Pierce the Veil a lot. The lyrics are fast and catchy which rounds of this song off perfectly. This is another one of my personal favourites! As this album continues it has become a lot faster and the song “The Fire” it sounds like Swing from a Street Light which I like cause I really liked them. This song is really catchy and well written and means to me that you want to take your friend though “The Fire” and to the other side. I would say this is another one of my favourites. And the final song on the album “You Don’t Owe Me...” makes this whole album make sense you start the album with a relationship on the edge of falling apart and this final song is to me, about the END of a relationship. This album is like a journey through a relationship and I really like that. But that’s only my opinion of this album. I would recommend it to EVERYONE! So go give it a listen and you will know for yourself how great this album is.

Jen’s Warped Review My Warped experience was so much more than just a concert. Travelling over 2000 k’s in a car and meeting some great people that I have met through Simple Plan was a highlight for me as well as seeing SP live in 2013 twice. It has always been on my bucket list to see SP on Warped Tour but I never thought I would due to me not being a very good flyer. written by Jen @justjenrees Worst part was the walk back to the hotel as my feet were killing me and we had jumped and danced so much that I was almost sleep walking. In fact there are some parts of the day that Brett remembers clearly that I don’t remember doing but I must of! I did sleep well that night for sure. Nick and I stayed one more night then drove back home so we could be ready for Warped in Melbourne.
Riley from Call the Shots That trip home was memorable, with car breakdowns and scorching heat and a very tired Nick and I trying to get home so I could go back to work the next day.
I think that the Melbourne Warped was not as good as Sydney for me as I was still so tired after the trip and I had to work a few days in between. It was also very hot and no shade for us to rest under. Still it was one of the best days ever, once again meeting friends that I had made in the SP facebook group. Jodie for the first time, Lenore and Bianca once again. Of course I was also with my partner in crime, Leeann and we once again got lost in the middle of the city as well as many other stories of mischief that continued from Sound Wave.

The thing that made this day so great was that I knew so many people, my two kids and their friends and many other fans that I had meet the last few years. To see some of my favourite bands at the same festival was fantastic. I met Reel Big Fish, Tonight Alive, New Found Glory, We Came as Romans Call the Shots and Masketta Fall. I also met Simple Plan for the third time and was humbled that they knew my name. (I did met them the week before!) So even though it was a stinking hot day I still enjoyed myself! above photo The gang from Melbourne right Chuck and I being silly and below that John from Reel Big Fish and me.

A small crowd had begun to assemble for "Call The Shots". With all of our group...Nick, Sue, Renee, Tamara, Courtney and Brendan at the front, Josh and Co hit the stage. I wasn't familiar with all of their songs. By the end of the 4th song, the band began having technical difficulties and lost power. It was at this point that I noticed smoke billowing from the amp on stage. Stage crew began to run everywhere, which then I noticed smoke billowing from the amp under the stage as well and it was at this point I began to panic. Coming across the half pipe, where skaters and bmx'ers were demonstrating their skills, we noticed a young 12-ish girl waiting at the top of the ramp. We were now only 4 rows from the front and we knew that we weren't gonna get any closer. Cue opening intro. The audience screamed, and so did we! Expecting Shut Up as the opener, we were surprised that "I'd Do Anything" was now the new curtain raiser!. They had the crowd singing to their mostly older material, such as "Jump" and "Thank You", mixed in with the newer tracks such as "Can't Keep My Hands Off You" and "Loser Of The Year". It was no surprise of Pierre bringing out Tonight Alive front woman and good friend Jenna McDougall to take on the duet with "Jet Lag", as they have done in the past.
After Simple Plan performed, we were going to call it a day, as it was already after 8 p.m. I was keen on seeing the final headline act "The Offspring", but as we were all tired from the long day and all the excitement, we decided we would stay for half of the set then head home. As ing, and before we knew per usual, the closer was it, I was still dancing "Perfect", which it defiand singing along to the nitely was... This was my smash hits of "Hit That", fav SP concert ever. It "Want You Bad", "Why was Perfect... no need to Don't You Get A Job", say anymore! "(Can't Get My Head) Around You", "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)" and the closing anthem "Self Esteem". 17 songs in total and now I know why they were the billed as the headline act.
This just topped off the best day of the year! They sure did!. I did not know them as well as Brett and would have been keen to lay down and go to sleep. I was so tired at that stage, but am now so glad that he wanted to stay, as I now love their music. It would have been nice to hear some of their other big hits as well, such as the recent "Cruising California (Bumpin' In My Trunk)", but still we left on cloud 9. With the day coming to an end, our faces and bodies burnt red, we reflected on what was the "greatest day of the year!". Luckily those scenes from Soundwave never eventuated, with a packed solid crowd, who where there to enjoy the bands. The only pain that was inflicted was the sunburn that most festival goers endured after the day had ended. This years Warped Festival had set the benchmark with it's success amidst uncertainty in the festival industry. Here's hoping that it will once again return next year, including our very own Simple Plan boys. That would be great! It was certainly one of the best days I have had! Got to have the last word. :) wriiten by Brett @dangerbrett and comments by Jen @justjenrees
BRISBANE SP WARPED REVIEW Well, where do I begin with this review of Simple Plan’s amazing hour long show at the Brisbane RNA showground’s? This was the first leg of the 2013 Australian Warped Tour. At first I thought I would be unable to attend because of work and other commitments and I thought I would miss getting to see Simple Plan live again (This was my 4th time seeing them live). I unfortunately did not get to see them in person this time (I have met them twice) because they had the meet and greet whilst I was at work. I had a friend at work ask me why I was not at Simple Plan (meaning warped tour) and I told her why I couldn’t’t go. She asked me the same question on Facebook when I got home and I told her again but she told me that I could get a ticket at the door and go in whenever I want. So I decided to try my luck go to the RNA showground’s and see if they had any tickets left. I couldn’t believe my luck when they did so I went in and went over to the main stage to get myself ready for SP. The countdown music started as they entered onto the stage and got the crowed pumped but what I found a little bit unusual was that they stared with I’d Do Anything instead of Shut Up. I have always been used to them play Shut Up first all the other times I had seen them live. They did play Shut Up towards the end. I recently watched an interview on YouTube with Jeff and Seb talking at Warped Tour and in the interview Jeff said they decided to change the set around a bit this time and that’s why they decided to play I’d Do Anything first instead of Shut Up. I was also hoping that with GET YOUR HEART ON THE SECOND COMING being released that day that we may have been able to hear one of the tracks off it but, unfortunately not. Every other song they sang though whether it be new or old from NPNHJB (No Pads No Helmets Just Balls) to GYHO (Get Your Heart On) were still amazing.
My favourite songs of the night would have been the NPNHJB melody, Summer Paradise, Perfect and Jump featuring I Gotta a Feeling (by the Black Eyed Peas) during the middle of the song. My most favourite performance song of the night would have been Jet Lag. The reason to this being my most favourite is that my Jet Lag dream finally came true!!! My Jet Lag dream was that I had seen David preforming the female vocal in different jet performances on YouTube and I wanted to see it live myself at a show instead of a female singing it. This dream finally came true when I got to see David perform the female lead instead of Jenna from Tonight Alive (although she did an amazing job of it when they were on tour with SP in Brisbane 2011). In all the whole night was amazing and I cant wait to see and meet Simple Plan when they come back to Brisbane again soon.
Simple Plans Set List For Warped was: I’d Do Anything Can’t Keep My Hands Off You Jump Addicted You Suck At Love Thank You Jet Lag Summer Paradise NPNHJB Melody Loser Of The Year Shut Up Welcome To My Life Perfect

Simple Plan @ Challenge Stadium Perth, WA 3 December, 2013 Where’s the plane? Oh, that’s right Simple Plan came to Perth! I could actually drive to their concert. That’s it. That’s my review. I kid!

The day started with snotty nose children and cute bouncing babies and toddlers and kindy kids. Yes, the day of the show, I had to work. I was so pumped though, that even the negative things didn’t phase me. Anyway I finished work at 5.30 and changed out of my work top and put on my 2005 tour shirt. The tour the guys last came to Perth incidentally. So, driving to Challenge Stadium from work, I listened to the new EP, Get Your Heart On - The Second Coming! Such an amazing EP go buy it if you get the chance. I arrived two hours before the show, caught up with Suzana (@randomlysuzana). (More on that later). Then went and lined up to get in. I started chatting to two girls who had driven from Bunbury (about an hour and a half out of Perth) which was nice. Didn’t catch their names, sadly. Then once we were inside I found my seat. I had a great view of the stage that was set up for Tonight Alive, the Sydney based support act. It was interesting watching all the different people coming into the show. It was an all-ages show (though judging by the guys’ banter they paid that no heed…no excusing their French….). The floor only filled up to about half and since they actually only used half of the stadium there wasn't that many people (not compared to when I saw the guys in Melbourne last year).
Anyway, Tonight Alive came on and they played for about twenty minutes or so. Jenna the front woman had a lot of energy and she interacted with the crowd. She told them to come up and hi-five her. I don’t think security liked that…haha. I sat and tapped along to the songs; I will definitely look up some of their songs to see what they’re like. Oh, and at one stage Chuck stood next to the stage, watching their set. The band finished and went off stage and the crew came on to remove their gear and reset Simple Plan’s gear. They uncovered Chuck’s drum set and one of the techies came on and did a last minute check of all the guitars. I think we only waited about 15 minutes max before the lights went down and SP’s opening started. It was the same opening, except that they played I’d Do Anything first, not Shut Up. In fact, Shut Up was the last song of the main set. At this point, I was still sitting down but, halfway through I’d Do Anything Pierre told us to come down and “join the floor party”; who was I to refuse an invitation from Mr Bouvier? So, I left my seat and went down to the floor. Best decision of the night! I stayed down there for the whole concert. Addicted was good as always, I loved hearing the people around me singing that one at the top of their lungs. And of course Pierre started this one off by getting us to count then they were “kicking it old school”. Always a favourite for me live. It kind of made me laugh when Pierre introduced Thank You as a punk rock song. It is a fast upbeat song and it really made me feel nostalgic for the Still Not Getting Any era.
Jenna coming on to sing Jet Lag was great, it really showcased her voice well and made me appreciate her a lot more than when TA did their set. Her hair, though….wow, really super bright.

The band were constantly making references to Perth and making lame jokes about “Perthfect”. And before they performed the No Pads medley, Pierre asked if anyone had been to see them in Perth back in 2005 with Green Day and also on their headlining tour. Then he dedicated the medley to all the fans who had been around for eight years and longer. Shut Up was the final song of the main set, which was an exact flip of last year’s concert where it was first and I’d Do Anything was last. Guess they wanted to change it up. Everyone started chanting “one more song” when the guys left the stage. Though I knew they’d play more than one more. Chuck was the first back on the stage, which reminds me, he joined in the banter of lame “Perth” jokes earlier on. Everyone got really excited and the guys launched into Loser of the Year and then I’m Just A Kid obviously both crowd favourites. Then Pierre asked us if we had the EP yet as a prelude to singing Lucky One! I managed to film the whole song. It’s absolutely beautiful live. He joked about it before he sang. Pierre: Does anybody out there have a song…have the EP, yet? Ok this one’s for you. It’s called The Lucky One. Actually, it’s not true it’s just called Lucky One. It’s not called THE Lucky One. Everyone keeps saying that… Seb: I think it’s just you who says that. Funny boys. Then came Perfect. Or more to the point, You Are My Sunshine then Perfect. And then that was the end. An amazing concert. Those guys couldn’t put a foot wrong. My night didn’t end there, though. I got to meet the guys again for the second time in two years. But, that’s a whole other story…

CALL THE SHOTS AT WARPED Josh, thanks for taking the time to answer some questions. I was stoked when I heard that your guys were on the Warped tour. It was in my mind almost to good to be true, I had hoped that one day you would support SP on a tour but to do Warped with them almost seemed like someone was playing a practical joke. I know that fans did too the way they were talking on twitter. I was so proud when I heard about this and yes I was doing a happy dance around the house. I know that SP has been a huge influence on you, can you try and put into words how you felt not only doing the warped tour but sharing the bill with SP? Josh: It honestly still feels like it didn’t happen haha Vans Warped Tour is something I’ve known about that held my favourite bands since I started music. To play it was just surreal. And playing with Simple Plan was just a whole other level for me. In Sydney just as the crowd was getting into your music and more people were coming over to see you two amps blew up, how frustrating was that for you? Josh: Honestly, looking back on it now, if it was just a normal show we probably would have been frustrated as hell. But seeing where we were and that a bunch of people got to see our first 4 songs was enough that our mood was never changed at all! We jumped off the stage and up on to the barrier and got everyone to sing along to ‘The World Is Ours Tonight’ so we still had the best time! I know the fans in Sydney (me being in front row) were impressed at your positive attitude and the acoustic performance of The World Is Ours Tonight . How did that feel that fans were singing along to one of your songs with no music? Photos by Gaslight Photography
Josh: It’s a pretty amazing feeling to be honest. That song wasn’t even in our set list so Sydney Warped is the only city that got TWIOT After our set we went back and hung out with SP and The Used and stuff... so we had no reason to be down haha I actually thought your fans handled it really well that they could not see your set, I guess you were disappointed, what was going through your mind when you heard that it was cancelled? Josh: we knew we couldn’t do anything about it so we made the most of what we could! Massive thanks to the fans for coming up and meeting us afterwards and hanging out for the rest of our cancelled set haha Can you tell us a little about each show?
photo credit to a really great security Guard who took my phone to take this pic! Nice Guy!
Josh: Brisbane was quite possibly the PERFECT day for a Warped Tour, the crowd was SO loud and we felt so happy at the amount of fans that came to support us! Cofs was VERY rainy and wet so we are so stoked at the people who checked us out for that show and braving the wet ahaha I know this may be hard to answer but in regards to fan participation, which warped show, was the best? Josh: I would have to say Brisbane wins this round! Who did you guys meet while touring and is there any funny stories you can tell? Josh: I met all of my favourite bands except for Reel Big Fish! Every time I saw their singer, he was with his girl and i didn’t want to but in haha Honestly, if we listed funny stories i think we would be here for days.
Do you think by going on the warped tour you have picked up some new fans? I overheard a few people talking about your set and they were impressed. Josh: Definitely! I had a heap of people coming up to me after our set and asking who we were and where they can get our music and stuff! Was awesome! What was the best highlight for each of you? Josh: Watching my favourite bands from the side of the stage and realizing I just toured with these guys. Watching bands from the side of the stage, what do you think you learnt from this? Josh: To just keep doing what we’re doing, keep trying and never slow down. Hopefully one day we get to that level. How did it feel to see the band and the crowd at the same time, I know the crowd in Sydney and Melbourne were pretty wild. Josh: it’s completely different! It’s so much cooler seeing the excitement on peoples faces screaming words at the band! This is why I love playing so much! But of course, these guys were just on an amazing crowd level!
What is the most important thing that you think you each learnt from the Warped Tour? Josh: Appreciate everything you’ve done and everything the fans do for you. What was your fav band to see? Josh: Simple Plan and The Used! What is in store for CTS next year? Any news you can share? 2014 is going to be huge for CTS! We're working on new music and trying to fit in as much touring as we can! But never fear, we'll still be that band that is happy to play a free acoustic show and hang out with our fans as much as we possibly can. Thanks Josh appreciate your time. Readers, check out Call the shots on faceboo**k and follow them on twitter. You can read the interview and find out more info on them in this edition.

BURIED IN VERONA are Brett Anderson - Vocals Richie Newman - Guitars/ Vocals Daniel Gynn - Guitars Sean Gynn - Bass Conor Ward – Drums Buried in Verona are a Sydney Home grown band that formed in 2008. Even before they played their first concert they had captured the interest of the music scene. Greg Stance (Dual Aria nominee) worked with them on their debut album along with Steve Smart of 301 Productions. Once they started to play live they reached the nations attention. In 2009 they started writing their second album. They were offered a recording op by Fredrik Nordstrom and headed to Sweden and recorded with him and Henrik Udd and Andy Haybell. ‘Saturday Night Sever’ was distributed by Warner Music Australia and the band headed around Australia touring for a year including shows with Pierve the Veil, The Devil Wears Prada and the Amity Affliction. I find Buried in Verona to be a band that can connect to their fans in the message of their songs as well as being a group of friendly guys. I encourage you to check out them on facebook and take a listen to their music. I caught up with Brett late December. Hi Brett, Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions about your time at Warped. What were you guys doing when you found out that you were on the Warped tour? How did you celebrate? I was helping a mate out on a roof when our manager called and asked if we wanted to do it, and we celebrated by going and rehearsing a new set list. You played on #No Regrets at 7.20, by that stage was there a pretty big crowd? It was always gonna be hard competing in the middle of the 2 biggest bands in AUS right now in The Amity Affliction and Parkway Drive but to our surprise every night was amazing, big crowds who loved to get down and have fun with us. Props to all who watched us on warped tour. What was the crowd like? The shows I went to the crowds were pretty insane. It was awesome! Awesome, as I said they were just out for a good time, they participated and showed us love, which is great to vibe off, and gain energy from the crowd, it just makes us go harder. Sharing a stage with bands like Anarbor and Mallory Knox must have been pretty rad, can you try and explain how great that was? 2 great bands and super nice guys. It was a pleasure to watch them. What bands did you guys meet? Any funny stories you can tell us? We hung out with friends in the other bands and just chilled out, its always-cool meeting new people though.
Had any of the bands playing on the tour have an influence on your band? If so how was it being on Warped with them? Well, The Offspring got me into the alternate side of music, so meeting them was pretty awesome and I could watch that band every night, I would also say Parkway Drive had a major influence on me as they have paved the way for AUS metal. When you were playing your set was there any stories you can tell us? Did anything go wrong, or anything funny happen? The lights on the Brisbane stage burned my forehead, as they were not really high enough. I was so close to vomiting from the heat after that set, although that set was fun! Brisbane fans are always crazy so it made up for it. What was the highlight of the day for each of you? Playing by far was the best thing everyday, sounds bad and super standard but that’s why we do what we do. Did you get to watch any of the other bands from the side of the stage? All of them which was sweet! Did you guys go out and mingle with the crowd? Yeah we had a lot of friends that we don't see much so we hung out in the crowed and had a chat to a few people. Do you think you have learnt anything from the headliner bands? You always take something away from a tour while watching other bands, the best thing is you don't know you are learning you just take it all in and hope you can achieve what these bigger bands have achieved someday. What, if anything, have your learnt from this experience, other than the headlining bands? I've learnt that I want to do the USA Warped tour sooooo much. What was your fav band to see? Other than Simple Plan mine were The Offspring and Call the Shots. So many to choose from! The Offspring, Parkway Drive, The Amity Affliction. What is in store for Buried in Verona for 2014? We have a new record coming out early next year and lots of Australian and Overseas touring plans, this will be the biggest year so far for BIV and we can't wait to start it! The new record is going to kill people! Brett BIV Thanks Brett, we will enjoy seeing what happens for BIV in 2014. photos by Rebecca Houlden
Veara Veara are a pop punk band from Augusta in the USA. I quote their facebook page “the band have an urgent message about life, friendship and betrayal that they’re expressing the only way they know how: Through their music.” This band is awesome to see live and at warped made their presence felt. They have found their own style and are not afraid to step out of their genre. I got in touch with Bradley to chat about their Warped experince. How did you celebrate the announcement that you were playing at warped? I'm not sure, don't really remember by now to be honest haha. Probably a bunch of jumping in joy and shouting "Weeee!" Is this your first trip Down Under? This was our second time down to Australia. First time was back in 2011 for Soundwave. What was your fav Aussie City? Melbourne! Love playing that place, they always go off! Yeah! my home town! Compared to American Crowds were Australian crowds as wild or wilder? That always depends on where you play but Aussies definitely know how to get down. You played on stage 2 at around 3, by then was the crowd a pretty big crowd? It was the perfect time to play to me. It was the middle of the day, so everyone is warmed up and ready. The crowds were great for the most part! What was the crowd like? The shows I went to the crowds were pretty insane. I loved it!! In Melbourne the dust they made in the pit went everywhere! The crowds were fantastic. Everyone was always down to participate and
Sharing a stage with bands like Parkway Drive, The Amity Affliction and We came As Romans to mention a few, must have been pretty rad, can you try and explain how great that was? It's always great to play festivals because you are going to play with a handful of bands that you wouldn't have the opportunity to play with on supporttours. So it's just a big mix of awesome bands and it's great to be able to meet and have the chance to play with bands that are totally different in styles. What bands did you guys meet? We met and hung out with a few bands. A few of them we already knew so it was awesome to reunite and then get to meet new people Had any of the bands playing on the tour have an influence on your band? If so how was it being on Warped with them? New Found Glory has always been a major influence on our band, so it was great to be able to be on the tour with them. We also grew up listening to The Offspring so that was pretty cool also. What was the highlight of the Warped for each of you? I'm sure we all had our moments, but just the fact that we got to play Warped Tour in Australia with so many cool bands was all a highlight in its self! We did have a pretty rad party night with a bunch of different bands, we had the whole catering area looking over trying to get in on the fun haha. Did you get to watch any of the other bands from the side of the stage? There were some bands here and there but bands always sound best out front! Did you guys go out and mingle with the crowd? Did you get noticed and hassled by fans? We would go out and talk some with the crowd after our set, always ran into some nice folks.
What, if anything, have your learnt from this experience, that you can use to help you in your career? You always learn new things on each tour. Playing festivals, one of the most important things to do is to just meet new people and hang out. Kick back, relax, and don't be afraid to talk to other bands. What was your fav band to see? Other than Simple Plan, mine were The Offspring and Call the Shots. So many to choose from! Besides Millencolin and New Found Glory, Hatebreed was always one of my favorites to watch. Also, one of my favorite bands. Do you have any special plans in 2014? Anything you can share with us? This year we just plan on touring as much as possible! That's all I can share for now. Thanks Bradley, I wish you all the best for your future and appreciate your time.
Prepared like a Bride Prepared Like a Bride played as the local act in Coffs Habour. These guys aare in fact from the Gold coast and 2014 is going to be a huge year for them. Check them out on facebook here to find out more about them. Hi Guys, What were you guys doing when you found out that you had the local band spot for Coffs Harbour Warped? How did you celebrate? I was just working when I got a call from our manager. We weren’t all together at the time so we couldn’t really celebrate. Are you in fact from Coffs Harbour? No but we’ve played in and around Coffs multiple times. You were the first band to play at the “The No Regrets Stage”, was the crowd pretty big at that time? We were actually the second band to play on the stage. There was a band thrown on the line up last minute. We were super happy to play when we did as no other stages had really kicked off yet so that meant that most of the people in the festival at that time came and saw us. Did you attract many people as they walked past? Did you have many of your local fans there to watch you? Yes and yes. What was it like to warm the stage up for Call the Shots? Did you get on well with them? Only a few of us got to meet them I think, everyone at the festival were lovely. Sharing a stage with bands like Crown the Empire and Anarbor must have been pretty cool, can you try and explain how great that was? Those bands are pretty new to my ears so it was a first for me but it was more the fact of hanging out with New Found Glory backstage and Millencolin that were the highlights. What bands did you guys meet? Any funny stories you can tell us? Yeah I hung out with NFG and they are great dudes and super funny dudes. Watching all the bands play beer pong was a funny experience. Saw the competitive side of some of them really show!
Had any of the bands playing on the tour have an influence on your band? If so how was it being on Warped with them? Um I’m sure Offspring have influenced myself and a few of us over the years. I first listened to them on cassette tapes! Parkway are an obvious band that have paved the way for Australian metalcore since forever, also really great dudes too. When you were playing your set was there any stories you can tell us? Did anything go wrong, (like Call the Shots in Sydney 2 amps blew up) or anything funny happen? Everything ran super smoothly for us, we just had a really rad time with the crowd. IT was a good time. What was the crowd like? The shows I went to the crowds were pretty insane. It was awesome! Yeah agreed, they jumped, moshed, sung, circle pitted. Not much more we could ask for. What was the highlight of the day for each of you? For all of us seeing The Used had to be it. Did you get to watch any of the other bands from the side of the stage? Just about all the bands actually! Did you guys go out and mingle with the crowd? Yeah we spent the majority of the day just meeting new people and hanging out in the crowd. Do you think you have learnt anything from the headliner bands? So much, especially not to care too much about what anybody else thinks. What, if anything, have your learnt from this experience, other than the headlining bands? That rain hail or shine, Warped does go on! Did you meet Simple Plan or see their show? If so did you like it? Didn’t meet those guys. What was your fav band to see? The Used, Tonight Alive, NFG What can we expect from Prepared like a Bride next year? Dropping our debut album early Jan and from there you’ll have to wait and see. Thanks guys, for your time answering these questions. Look forward to hearing your debut Album.
TAKE US TO VEGAS.....
.......... are a young Sunshine Coast band that are determined to take their music to the world. They have supported bands such as Heroes for Hire, Northlane and The Getaway Plan. Their debut EP ‘Bloodwolves was released in October last year. I quote their Facebook page. “The band will be bringing ‘Bloodwolves’ to audiences the only way they know how. Hard, heavy and loud.” Hi Guys, Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions about your Warped experience. What did you guys do to celebrate the announcement that you were playing in Brisbane? Unfortunately we all had to work heaps before warped so that kind of got in the way of celebrating. Is this the biggest show that you guys have played? Yes! And it was amazing. What bands did you guys meet? Any funny stories you can tell us? Well, we met the guys from The Used, Tonight Alive, For All Those Sleeping and Crown The Empire. Funniest moment was probably talking to Ben from Crown the Empire and him frothing legal ages of doing things in Australia haha Do you think by playing Warped that you have picked up any new fans? Definitely! I was just walking around watching my favourite bands and I had heaps of people coming up to me to say that they had never heard of us and that we played a great show. Stuff like that makes me love what I do. Had any of the bands playing on the tour have an influence on your band? If so how was it being on warped with them? Yeah Crown the Empire are a huge influence of mine from how they structure their sound to their stage presence and meeting them after they played felt so awesome. When you were playing your set was there any stories you can tell us? Did anything go wrong, (like Call the Shots in Sydney 2 amps blew up) or anything funny happen? Yeah our backing synth wasn’t going through the front of house speakers for our first 3 songs and the dude doing our sound didn’t believe our sound engineer. So when he wasn’t looking our sound engineer smacked it on and then BANG we were good to go.
What was the highlight of the day for you? Probably having Quinn from The Used take one of our CD’s opening it up and reading our lyrics then saying he is really keen to listen to us. That was kinda cool. Did you get to watch any bands from the side of the stage? Do you think you have learnt anything from the headliner bands? Yeah, We Came as Romans is probably the band I learnt the most from. The energy and movement of the band is absolutely electric. So I have stolen a few moves from those boys. What, if anything, have your learnt from this experience? NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK. Oh and don’t wear brand new vans because they will give you blisters! Did you meet Simple Plan or see their show? If so did you learn anything from them? Didn’t get to meet them but I got to watch them. They are also another band that I love to watch play as they really know how to work a crowd. What was your fav band to see? Favourite of the day was probably We Came As Romans. They just killed it. What is in store for Take us to Vegas next year? Any news you can share? Tour, Tour and more Tours. We just have to get out there and get people to see us the old fashion way. Also will have some new tunes so stand by for that. Thanks guys! I was at the Melbourne and Sydney shows so I missed seeing you. I look forward to seeing what your music career holds for you!

masketta fall
Masketta Fall are a Melbourne based band that worked hard to secure a ;ocal act spot on Warped 2013. I first heard this band outside Festival Hall while we were waiting to get into see SP in 2012. Since then they have had many concerts, released heaps of new music and they even let fans be involved in their music videos. Worth checking this band out! I was really happy when I heard that you guys were playing at the Warped tour in Melbourne, what went though your head when it was announced and then the Masketeers went crazy on twitter? It was great news for us and great to see that our fans were so happy for us. It was great to finally get a small break after so long! I know that SP has been an influence on you, can you try and put into words how you felt not only doing the warped tour but sharing the bill with SP? Absolutely. We all love SP in our band so to be on the same bill definitely felt great for us. We all got to meet the guys and watch their set from backstage. It was a great day. I have read many positive reviews on your set and that the writers were surprised that you had such a big following. I was front row for you and your set was amazing. Did you realise how big the crowd became after you started playing? How was that feeling? For us it’s never a surprise yet rather a feeling of satisfaction. Those who truly know our band know how hard we’ve worked to promote ourselves over the past few years and especially for us being in the band we’ve seen our audiences grow. I think those who were surprised by the amount of people watching us were perhaps people who haven’t given us much time or taken us seriously to this point. Either way it’s great to be able to make an impression and it was a great feeling to see lots of our fans come and watch us on the day. Hopefully the turnout will open people’s eyes to how much work we’ve put into our band.
Who did you guys meet at the tour and is there any funny stories you can tell? We got to meet lots of bands and people we’ve known for a while which was great. In terms of funny stories, a few fans were hanging over the backstage fence asking me to get Jenna’s (from TA) attention – Sadly I couldn’t help them. Do you think by playing on the Warped tour you have picked up some new fans? Definitely. Shows that big always attract a few new faces! What was the best highlight for each of you? I speak for all of us when I say watching SP from backstage. Watching bands from the side of the stage do you think you learnt from this? We did for sure. Watching SP especially makes you appreciate how tight the band is. Makes you want to work a lot harder. What is the most important thing that you think you each learnt from the Warped Tour? Wear sunscreen. What was your fav band to see?
The Used and SP
What is in store for MF this year? Any news you can share? Nothing to share at the moment. But it will be an interesting year :) Thanks, look forward to catching up and seeing what is in store for you for 2014. Check these guys out on facebook and follow them on twitter.
Sierra
This promising Hardcore band from Mount Gambier (Australia) are a fantastic band to see live. Their single “Decadence is worth a listen and make sure you like their facebook page to keep up with their touring and when they release new music. If you saw them at Warped, let them know about it! Check their music out here for free on band camp. I caught up with Brett, the lead singer who was happy to answer some questions about their Warped experience. What were you guys doing when you found out that you had the local band spot for Adelaide Warped? How did you celebrate? If I remember correctly it was 10:58pm, lights were out, and I just double checked my alarm was set for work the next day. Just as I went to put the phone down, I received an email asking if we could do it. It's safe to say it was hard to sleep after that. I notified everyone else who didn't believe me at first. You were the first band to play at the Stage 2, was the crowd pretty big at that time? I was anxious about playing to next to no-one, but we were grateful to have had a pretty decent crowd (similar to that of a standard show). Did you attract many people as they walked past? Did you have many of your local fans there to watch you? I would like to think a few people stopped by and gave us their time. To be honest, we never expected to gain much from it personally, we understand the "food chain" if you will and to be opening alongside Man Overboard, well I'm sure they drew a large portion of the crowd (and rightly so). We were just thankful to be give the opportunity, and also valued the festival experience from both a fan and artist standpoint.
Sharing a stage with bands like Parkway Drive and The Amity Affliction must have been pretty cool, can you try and explain how great that was? It was basically a day full of second glances. Like, "is that really ****?" Probably the most refreshing aspect of that all was how down to earth these "big names" appeared. The other aspect of it was getting to see a band from a different perspective. Watching TAA from side of stage (amongst other bands) allowed us to see what the band is faced with most shows. It was both awe-inspiring and enviable. Do you think by playing Warped has increased your fan base? As I said earlier, I'm not exactly sure if a definite answer could be given to this. I would hope we were seen as a deserving addition to Warped by both fans and the general punter alike. What bands did you guys meet? Any funny stories you can tell us? The whole vibe for the day was unique compared to any festival I’ve been to in the past. Everyone was there for the bands, and it showed in participation. What was the highlight of the day for each of you? I guess the whole day was one big highlight. We’ve never really taken anything for granted and even grabbing a drink from the same fridge as where the Reel Big Fish guys were getting breakfast, through to watching bands like Simple Plan at work from side of stage, it was pretty surreal. Did you get to watch any of the other bands from the side of the stage? We mixed it up, bouncing between the main stage and smaller stages. Did you guys go out and mingle with the crowd? We spent a fair bit of time out there just soaking it all in. We watched a few bands, caught up with some friends, and just made the most of it. Do you think you have learnt anything from the headliner bands? The bigger you are determines whether you get a tent or a portable room. But on a more serious note, everyone was just professional and on-point. There is a standard and it would be obvious if a band didn’t meet it. What, if anything, have your learnt from this experience, other than the headlining bands? We (musicians) for the most part are all just normal people, trying to get by doing what we enjoy.
Did you meet Simple Plan or see their show? If so did you like it? Simple Plan peaked in our teenage years, there is no denying some sing-a-longs occurred. What was your fav band to see? Other than Simple Plan mine were The Offspring and Call the Shots. So many to choose from! Bands like Millencolin, The Offspring, The Used, the kind of bands you don't get to see everyday. It was all a bit nostalgic. What can we expect from Sierra next year? Any news you can share? We have a Melbourne festival coming up in March called Pushover which again will expose us to a range of bands both within and outside of our genre, so that will be another interesting and rewarding experience. Aside from a few shows here and there, new music is high on our priorities. It's all starting to really come together now and we're feeling excited and I guess refreshed with where we are going. Thanks Brett, appreciate you sharing your warped experince with us. Hope 2014 holds great things in store for Sierra. Check out Sierra by clicking on the links on the next page You wont regret it!

Drawing North played the Canberra Warped as the local band on the bill. Drew was kind enough to tell us about his Warped experience. What were you guys doing when you heard the great news that you were playing at the Canberra Warped show? Was it totally unexpected? I think we were all working when we got the email. It was exciting to say the least! How did you celebrate? I guess we celebrated by playing the show and having a killer time. You were the first band to play at the No Regrets stage; did you attract many people as they walked past? Did you have many of your local fans there to watch you? We were actually the second band and we seemed to have a solid crowd. It was our first Canberra show in a while, so it was refreshing to see so many familiar faces! Do you think by playing Warped that you have picked up any new fans? Has there been an increase in Facebook likes and twitter followers? There has been an increase in the last few weeks and we’ve received a number of encouraging comments and messages about our set. Is this the biggest show/festival that you guys have played? It is definitely the most recognised festival we have played but we have played to much bigger crowds as well What bands did you guys meet? Any funny stories you can tell us? We didn’t meet any new bands but we did get to catch up with our friends in Hands Like Houses, Tonight Alive and Atlantis Awaits which was fun! I think all of us actually got really sunburnt. Our guitarist (Chad) is still peeling.. Had any of the bands playing on the tour have an influence on your band? If so how was it being on Warped with them? We all grew up listening to bands like The Offspring, Simple Plan and The Used, so it was a pretty surreal experience playing at the same festival as the bands we used to look up to.
When you were playing your set was there any stories you can tell us? Did anything go wrong, (like Call the Shots in Sydney 2 amps blew up) or anything funny happen? Actually we had a few issues with our in ear systems but they got sorted pretty quickly, all in all it was just a fun and energetic show. What was the highlight of the day for each of you? Seeing our friends in other bands play the same festival was definitely a highlight. It was such a great vibe and I think everyone loved the day. Did you get to watch any of the other bands from the side of the stage? I saw a pic of you hanging out with Tonight Alive and Hands like Houses. A few of our members did but I think the majority of us wanted to watch from the crowd to hear the full mix. Do you think you have learnt anything from the headliner bands? To be a headliner band, I know you have to work extremely hard to get there. They really perfect their live sound before playing to a crowd that big. What, if anything, have your learnt from this experience other than the headlining bands? We’ve learnt to take the day as it comes and to not stress about the little things. Enjoy your company, be organised and play an amazing show. Did you meet Simple Plan or see their show? If so did you like it? We didn’t actually, we all had to leave early for another engagement, but we heard that it was a huge show. Hopefully we get to see them perform another time! What was your fav band to see? Other than Simple Plan mine were The Offspring and Call the Shots. So many to choose from! We loved watching Tonight Alive, they are such a tight live band it’s ridiculous. What is in store for Drawing North next year? Any news you can share? I have seen that you are planning some tours. We are touring with Hands Like Houses and Atlantis Awaits in Jan/Feb and we have a few more exciting tours which we will be announcing soon. Other than that, we are getting our album masters back in Jan and we are working extremely hard behind the scenes to release it with a solid plan.
Atlantis Awaits
Atlantis Awaits are no newcomers to the music industry, they formed in 2009. They released their debut EP in 2010 followed by a National Tour. Late in 2011 they wrote their first album in association with Brandon Frieson who also worked with Arvil Lavigne. This is a passionate young Australian band who are keen to get their music to Australia and the world. I managed to catch up with Robbie (the drummer) to discuss their Warped Experience. Robbie, what were you guys doing when you heard the great news that you were playing at the Canberra Warped show? Was it totally unexpected? We were actually all out to dinner together when our Booking Agent told us the good news. Needless to say, we bought a round of Atlantis Slammers (vodka, rum, tequila and soda water) and turned one on. Do you go crazy with your celebrations? In one word, yes. You were the first band to play at the Stage 2; did you attract many people as they walked past? Did you have many of your local fans there to watch you? It was awesome playing right by the gate, first up because we could see our fans and friends running towards us as they were let in, and also cool to see passive festival goers take an interest in what we were up to. The Canberra scene has always been good to us and it’s good to always get a solid crowd. Do you think by playing Warped that you have picked up any new fans? Has there been an increase in Facebook likes and twitter followers? Definitely. We made friends with some of the other bands on tour and even by them tweeting us or instagramming some shots, it helps get our profile out to a broader, diverse market. Is this the biggest show/festival that you guys have played? Nah, we were lucky enough to play Stone Fest in March, 2013 supporting Van Halen, Aerosmith, Jimmy Barnes etc. That was hardcore. What bands did you guys meet? Any funny stories you can tell us? Well we got really, really drunk in the City the night before with the Hands Like Houses and Tonight Alive crew. I remember just being hungover as hell early the next day when we were loading in, we were all just lying out in the sun, hating life. But excited all the same!
Had any of the bands playing on the tour have an influence on your band? If so how was it being on Warped with them? Definitely. The Amity Affliction are one of our favourite bands. It’s no secret that they’re killing it and they seem to have found the right recipe with their sing/scream dynamic. I’ve learnt a lot from listening to their records and even live, their presence is electric. Was rad chatting to them backstage and good to see their laidback, down to earth dudes. When you were playing your set was there any stories you can tell us? Did anything go wrong, or anything funny happen? Ha not really. When we finished I stood up to throw my drumsticks out to the crowd but they flew right into the roof and dropped back next to my feet. I looked like a tool. I guess that was funny. What was the highlight of the day for each of you? Hanging out with all our mates in the drinking area, enjoying the awesome weather and then capping the day off with Parkway drive. Did you get to watch any of the other bands from the side of the stage? I saw a pic of you hanging out with Tonight Alive and Hands like Houses. Went side of stage for the Used. Bert is a f*&king legend, he tells it like it is and sings from the heart. Do you think you have learnt anything from the headliner bands? For me I think a good show is made up of 2 things 1) stage presence 2) connecting with the audience. You see all main stage bands that bring it to the table , they’ve got these things. You can f*&k up a note, fall off stage, play the wrong song, no one cares if you’re rocking the f*&k out and are right on with the crowd. It’s not about being as tight as possible, it’s about connecting with the audience and making them feel something. That’s what I’ve learnt.
What, if anything, have your learnt from this experience other than the headlining bands? Just be a dude. Don’t be a hero, no one gives a f*&k who you are or where you came from. Be good to everyone regardless, we’re all in this together. What was your fav band to see? Other than Simple Plan mine were The Offspring and Call the Shots. So many to choose from! I didn’t see any of those bands because they clashed. I’ll tell you what, The Used, Hands Like Houses, Tonight Alive, Amity and Parkway all killed it, but there was nothing better than being in the pit for Amity with our best mates, causing a rukus to Chasing Ghosts. What is in store for Atlantis Awaits next year? Any news you can share? Tell us about your plans for your overseas tour. Who is that with? Where are you headed? Everything. We’re heading off next week on an Australian tour with Hands Like Houses and Drawing North, followed by a run of Sydney shows. We’re looking to get to the States mid year and Asia end of year. It’s going to be epic. Thanks guys, for your time answering these questions. Best of luck for 2014!
Copia
If you went to Australian Warped you would probaby been given a free CD from Copia. I listened and I liked what I heard and contacted them as I was interested in their promotion style. This is a different interview than the others. I saw you guys handed out CD’s in Sydney and then Melbourne to everyone when we were leaving. How many Warped shows did you travel to and how? Hi! We did 6 Warped shows and travelled in our trusty van. Any amusing stories that you have to share about your trip around Australia? A lot of sleepless nights driving from one city to the next which means lots of snoring!! We had to call RACV a few times to get the ole van fixed too... Was it a good way to promote your band? Have many people got in touch with you after any of the shows? (Clearly I did!) I have done the same to promote Call the Shots at two concerts now and some people do not want to take what I hand out! It seems to get people's attention in some way but we dont expect to see the real benefits until we start touring a lot and then we hope a lot of the people that got those freebies will start coming out of the woodwork. We've been running into quite a few people who have already heard about us and having been around for such a short time that is really positive. In regards to the bands that played at Warped whom do you think you sound most like? Wow that is a hard one. Actually I don't think we sound overly like anyone on the Warped tour, although many of the people that were there really dug our stuff. Were any of the Warped bands an inspiration to you? What other bands are your inspiration? I listened to the Offspring a lot when I was younger but I doubt they've had a real impact on this band. We love bands like Tool, Metallica, Rammstein, Karnivool among many. More recently we've been loving Bring Me The Horizon and even Northlane gets quite a spin for me.
\ Can you tell us a little about your history? When did you form as a band and what shows/tours have you done? We started writing our record about 3 years ago which was when we first formed. We all played together in a previous band but had some internal conflicts with our old singer so we reformed and started again. We released our album in Germany and Russia in the mid-late 2013 whch is where we played our first shows. We toured Russia with Northlane who are a Sydney band that is killing it internationally at the moment. Our first Aussie tour starts in Mid March until mid April and we are very excited about that. What is next for Copia? Any news or plans you can share with our readers? For now we want to play as many shows and make as many new fans as possible. We will start writing more music again soon too but nothing more will be released anytime soon. We want to give this album its dues first!
Check Copia out on facebook and YouTube.

The Never Ever and Lets Not Pretend Tour 2 dates. Sydney and Melbourne. 14th and 15 of December. Let's start off by saying that although this tour was only two dates they made sure that it was worthwhile. The Never Ever had support from Let's Not Pretend, Drawing North and Breakaway for their Sydney show, which was the date in which I attended. Upon entry into the Metro Theatre's sister venue 'The Lair' everyone was given a little thank you pack which consisted of a glossy photo/postcard, 3 guitar picks and a note from Lani thanking everyone. You can see that here. Breakaway [sadly I didn't get a picture of them] were up first, followed by Drawing North (pictured), Let's Not Pretend and finally The Never Ever. For the first few bands the sound wasn't all that good but it was still bearable to listen to and watch the enthusiasm of them, it was also still quite enjoyable. At some stage during the afternoon (the show started at 2:15) there was balloons released, I say some stage as I can't remember during which bands set that it was. To begin with things didn't run as smoothly as they could have, you could actually say that they were running a little bit behind schedule but each band made up for it as they hit the stage. Now I may have gotten a little excited upon seeing one of the members from Let's Not Pretend wearing a Santa Hat. Yes you read that correctly, guitarist Jordan wore a Santa Hat as these were the last shows of the year and it was so close to Christmas. The boys started off with 'Rocketship to the Stars', followed by 'Believe it', 'All Signs point to Lauderdale' which is their A Day To Remember cover, 'Ready? Go!', 'I Dream', they also included a cover medley, along with 'Out of Time' and 'Is This Love?'. The boys did an exceptional job of playing each song with enthusiasm.
Once The Never Ever (pictured) hit the stage things went up a notch. Once the band settled in to the groove of things, which didn’t take long at all. They started off with a new track called ‘Second Star To The Right’ from their EP Ghosts and Ghouls, they followed that up with ‘Loves Got Me Tipsy’, ‘Drop Dead Guilty’, ‘Glow’ and ‘At Sixes and Sevens’ from their Breathe EP midway through the show Dylan somehow took of his jacket off quite possibly between ‘Loves Got Me Tipsy’ and ‘Drop Guilty’. They continued the show with an old song that they hadn’t played in a while ‘Hey KT’ following ‘Hey KT’ they played ‘Somebody told me’ their Killers cover. After their cover of the Killers they continued with show they played ‘Breathe’ from the EP of the same name, ‘Spiders’ and finally finishing off with ‘In or Out’ from the Ghosts and Ghouls EP.
The Never Ever put on a brilliant show, as did all the bands involved. All the bands interacted with the crowd talking to them occasionally between songs and telling them what was coming up or how many songs were left. At the end of the afternoon we had the opportunity to meet some of the bands. Pictured below is me with Lani and Dylan from TNE.
Set listing was provided by Lets Not Pretend and The Never Ever as I had forgotten some of the songs so asked them and they provided them.

December Twitter Talk Written by Leeann @adnaxar
David – I had really been hoping that David would have tweeted a
little more while down under, but sadly, this wasn’t the case. We did however get one tweet from him this month where he apologised to fans for his account being hacked. Hope it is sorted now, and he is back tweeting real soon.
Chuck –
Chuck was wondering how it was December 1st already, and reminded us all that there was only 2 days until the SP EP was released worldwide, and 24 days until Xmas. But he couldn’t dwell on that for too long, he had a concert to play in Sydney. While in Perth, Chuck and Pierre had a friend drop by to watch them play a round of golf (looks like all of Australia loves Simple Plan) Chuck summed up the release of the The Rest Of Us video as 3 years of their lives in 3 minutes when he tweeted it’s official release. So many amazing memories! Back on the east coast of Oz, there was time for another round of golf, before another gig, and then Chuck capped off the day with a meal at Jamie Oliver’s restaurant. When Warped came to an end, a 15 hour flight awaited Chucks return to North America, where song writing for album 5 will begin. But first, Chuck was going to enjoy one last day of sunshine, before heading back to the cold and snow. Towards the end of the month, tweets regarding a special holiday surprise left fans wondering. Thankfully fans only had to wait a few days until Chuck finally revealed the #secretplan. Back home to his parents Christmas tree, Chucked wish fan’s a happy holiday. Then the countdown began for the release of SP’s Christmas gift to fans, the uploading of the Melbourne concert to YouTube. Christmas Eve meant dinner with his family, and tracking Santa’s progress on Norad Santa, which lead to a trip down memory lane, reflecting on concerts they had played around the world with each new country Santa arrived at, before rounding out the year watching movies before the last hockey game of 2013.
Pierre –
Pierre thought it was ridiculously ironic when he tweeted a thought provoking link at the start of the month. But I must say, it was interesting to watch. Then he had another very important link to tweet, the link to the first video off of the new SP EP. Which according to Pierre, was already getting some great support. After sending a huge thank you to Puma and Cobra golf for setting him up with some new gear, it was time to hit the stage for the first time in the Aussie capital, Canberra. Warped also gave him the chance to catch up with some old friends, and to make some new ones before heading home and trying to get in the Christmas spirit, albeit with coffee. After wishing everyone a happy holiday season, it was time for Pierre and the rest of the guys to give thier fan’s a little SP Christmas loving.
Sebastien –
Seb rarely gets to say he’s going to Sydney, but he could today, and he wanted to know who was going to come with him. Heading west, the guys got a warm welcome at the airport, but Seb wanted to know what he could do during his time in Perth cause I don’t think taking a selfie in a Christmas ornament was going to keep him occupied for the day. In Canberra, Seb wanted the fans to give em some love, Melbourne didn’t disappoint and Adelaide was great. Then it was priority boarding where Seb got to sit in the place he was going to hate in a few hours before anyone else. Back at home he found a Christmas cat under his Christmas tree. I guess it really was starting to feel like Xmas, and for Montreal, that meant snow, and the hairs of his beard freezing. With Christmas day approaching, Seb let fans know that he might be tweeting less, but wanted to reassure everyone that this meant that he only loved them even more. At his parents’ house Christmas day, Seb wondered if one of the presents under the tree was his. With the end of 2013 fast approaching, Seb had one more day of work to go but made sure to wish everyone a Happy New Year.
Jeff –
Jeff was real happy to be back in Sydney, but maybe happier that he didn’t need the ‘cheat sheet’ for Lucky One any more ;) He shared with us 3 of the best parts about playing on the Warped tour, 1) Escaping part of winter in MTL, 2) seeing pretty Aussie girls everywhere 3) Offspring. After declaring SP were going to record another album and return to Oz, Jeff was excited to be on his way home where on his first day off in a long while, he could take his little ones to the ballet to see the Nutcracker. A first for Jeff! The Rufus Rockhead was running a little late, but Jeff promised it was going to be kickass when it opened. He shared with us some of his favourite albums for the year and got some good suggestions from fans of some other bands to check out. Merry Christmas Jeff.
January Twitter Talk Written by Leeann @adnaxar
David...As there were no tweets from David this month, we can only assume he his having a great Christmas and New Year.
Chuck.. 2013 was amazing and 2014 is going to be even better. That was Chucks promise to fans before posting a look back at the year that was. Having written down his resolutions for the year ahead, Chuck was hoping that he would be able to keep a few. With the first being a promise of no more Summer Paradise versions. More hockey, movies, golf, training hard and lunching on some delicious Mexican were just some of the other ways Chuck was spending his break over the New Year.
Pierre – Pierre was ready to bring in the New Year with some vintage bubbles. Then it was time to get some more work done on his leg, declaring one day they will finish it.
Sebastien –
Seb may have been hanging out with He-man New Years day, but he was also wondering how everyone was feeling that morning. He reminded everyone to not wait until the holidays to tell people you love them, just do it! (We love you Seb) Cleaning and dishes got in the way of him experiencing the emotion of the Homeland finale. Seb was looking for new music ideas for future eps of MOTH, which was still going to air over the holiday season and was getting excited about getting his hand on his new guitar for the next tour. Seb found some time to write a new song, and finding himself up early on a Sunday morning, took the opportunity to answer some fan questions. (Why do I always seem to miss these???) Working on music, playing his guitar and building things, Seb really seemed to be enjoying his holidays.
Jeff – Jeff kicked off 2014, sounding very positive about the year ahead, and why not? He had some exciting endeavours coming up in the weeks ahead, and he wasn’t going to let a little thing like -20c stand in his way. After having an epic night out the night before, Jeff still had fun sliding down Mont-Royal. Even though it was the opening night of his new restaurant, The Shinji, Jeff still managed to leave the party, and catch up on some sleep. Then a few nights later, there was another opening for Jeff to attend, this time it was his new bar, the Rufus Rockhead’s turn to make its debut. It would be a little longer before Jeff could get his first 8 hour night in months, but once he did, he felt like ‘taking the world’.

I would like to get an astronaut holding four flags. In one hand holding an Australian and Canadian flag and in the other a flag either saying SP or Simple Plan and on the last flag the GYHO logo.
Q: Say what Simple Plan means to you. Simple Plan means the world to me they have helped me through a lot of tough times and when I listen to their music or I see they have sent me a tweet or they answer one of my questions on a Luce stream it puts a massive smile on my face. Q: Favorite Simple Plan song and why? Every single Simple Plan song is my favourite because I love them all and hearing them live is amazing.
David: Hilarious Jeff: Great Pierre: Sexy Seb: Cute Chuck: Fantastic ALL OF SIMPLE PLAN IN ONE WORD: Amazing!
Q: If you could spend a whole day with SP, what would you do? I would probably just hang out with them during the day and maybe go to the beach then party with them at night.
Q: What’s your favorite part of A Big Package For You (ABPFY)? I love the whole DVD but my most favourite parts are when they tour Australia towards the end, David talking about going to Virginia beach in a helium voice and in the special features where they do a tour of the tour bus as well as when they are in London on the sight seeing bus during the special features my favourite comment on that comes from Seb and it is “WHEN THERE IS NO ROOF ON A BUS ITS WINDY” (I find it hilarious and he is right sitting on top of a double decker bus going around London is quite windy lol)
Q: Best Simple Plan memories? Meeting them at the Caloundra RSL and The Tivoli Getting followed /following them all the way home from Caloundra RSL to the suburb I used to live in exit along the Bruce highway and Jeff pulling funny faces to my friend out the window.
Q: Have you made friends thanks to Simple Plan? Yes I have made lots of friends thanks to Simple Plan. Q: Favorite SP quote(s)? Pierre: This next song is about Music, it’s about the power of music, the power of just one song. Sometimes that one song when you’re having a shitty day, you put that song on and it puts a smile on your face. Do you guys have a song like that that you know? This song is about that; it’s called This Song Saved my Life. Q: Favorite Simple Plan video? My favourite Simple Plan videos would have to be all of the music videos to all of their songs, all of their Australian vlogs and interviews done in Australia but the one SP video I can’t stop watching ATM is my friend Eve’s she was lucky enough in Perth this year during the sound check party to go up on stage with the boys and sing Jet Lag and get the full experience of what it’s like to be on the stage (in ears and all). The video of her performing with the boys is just amazing and make me wish that that could be me one day performing Jet Lag on the stage with SP. Q: What song would you like Simple Plan to cover? Any song by We The Kings or Good Charlotte. Q: Apart of SP, which other bands do you like? We The Kings, Good Charlotte, Call The Shots, New Empire, Shepard, Kisschasy, The Offspring.
Q: If you could say anything to Simple Plan right now, what would you tell them? I would thank them for everything they have done for me and thank them for just being themselves because they are all truly amazing guys. Q: Okay, now pick an SP song that means the most to you and try to explain why. Every single SP song means a lot to me but the row that would mean the most to me would be save you and gone to soon the reasons behind these are I have had a friend go though cancer like Pierre's brother Jai but she unfortunately passed away and gone to soon because I have had loved ones pass away unexpectedly and they were gone to soon. Q: Last but not least, what is your wish you want to do with Simple Plan? My two all time wishes with simple plan were 1. Meet Simple plan ( which I have done twice and hope to do again in the near future) 2. See David preform the female vocal of jet lag live and not just in videos ( which I had done on the 29th November at the vans warped tour. My third wish I still want to have completed Be like eve and get to sing jet lag up on stage with the boys :) Thanks Nicole! Great to get to know you a bit better. :)
