I encourage you to consider making a donation to their foundation, see the SP website for more info. The world needs help. The world indeed is a Crazy place. Get to know the band: Part 3 Written by Karoline Hov. Twitter: @KarolineHov1

Now you’re going to learn about Simple Plan as they released their 2nd album, Still Not Getting Any... This album was released on October 26th, 2004. It included 11 new songs and this is what the tracklist looked like: 1. Shut Up 2. Welcome To My Life 3. Perfect World 4. Thank You 5. Me Against The World 6. Crazy 7. Jump 8. Everytime 9. Promise 10. One 11. Untitled It was also possible to get different versions of this album. Some versions had bonus tracks, one version was a Dual Disc Edition with a bonus DVD and a Tour Edition was also sold in Asia. The name of the album has been discussed many times. We’ve been told that some of the names they were considering as options were ”Get Rich or Die Trying” and ”In The Zone”, but in the end they ended up with Still Not Getting Any… For some dirty-minded people it may be obvious what the title is about, but it’s actually not that simple. Simple Plan love words and phrases with 2 meanings and that is probably one of the reasons for why they chose this name. Another reason is that they still weren’t getting any good reviews at that point. They weren’t getting any respect either and got a lot of hate from all over the world. The band has given us many various reason for the name-choice but these are the most popular and likely reasons. Still Not Getting Any… sold over 130,000 copies and was no. 3 on the US Billboard 200 all in its first week. The band has said that on this album they wanted to write ”good music” instead of limiting themselves to the punk genre. The lyrics were more mature and slightly deeper. The song Welcome To My Life is possibly the most famous song from Still Not Getting Any... Teenagers all over the world were able to identify themselves with this song and it became a giant hit.

Another important song from this album is Crazy. This song is just as relevant now as back in 2004 when we heard it for the first time. It talks about the problems and issues of the society. Crazy is one of Simple Plan’s most serious songs.

Still Not Getting Any… was a very successful album with many hits (Shut Up, Welcome To My Life, Perfect World, Crazy and Untitled) and it made the band able to tour all over the world.

SIMPLE PLAN FOUNDATION

by maddie

A lot of you probably don’t know what this is, if you don’t; keep reading and even if you do, keep reading just because it’s about SP! The Simple Plan Foundation started in December 2005 (well that’s when they announced it). Their main aim was to make a difference using the power of music, not to gain more fans or to make themselves better known. It was purely for all the teenagers and young people; whether it was raising money to find a cure for Cancer or supporting anti-bullying fundraisers. Everyone thinks SP are just a band with dedicated fans, they don’t know half of it. Simple Plan are one of the only bands that aren’t in it for the money and fame, but for themselves because it’s what they love and also their fans. The guys are so touched by how much people open up to them, sending fan mail about when they suffered depression but after listening to their music, they feel better knowing that they’re not alone. As it says on their website, they feel very close to fans about this. “After reading hundreds of letters and e-mails from our fans and talking to them at our shows, we know very well how tough life can be for kids growing up. It breaks our hearts to see so many young people fighting to survive while feeling depressed and lost.” Simple Plan focus on making teenagers lives better, even few faces would make a world of difference to them. SP to help stop bullying, depression, suicide, dropping out of to help those affected by wars. They also want to make life easier on those affected by state on their website.

to put a few smiles on a works with organisations school, drugs, poverty and illnesses, as the guys

“Being in this band, we also got to meet lots of kids and families dealing with illness. There’s nothing more unfair and absurd than seeing a young life ruined by cancer or any other sickness.” Simple Plan are very serious about this cause, as some of their own family members have suffered from Cancer and they know how horrific it can be. Simple Plan are in a deal with Apple, Warner Music and Atlantic Records that all funds from downloading the song ‘Save You’ (which is a song dedicated to all those Cancer victims and their families. If you watch the video, you will see that many Cancer victims and their families are featured in the video, including Jay, Pierre’s brother who is a Cancer survivor. The song is about all the families and victims involved with illnesses like Cancer and how it just makes you feel completely powerless and cannot make things better.) will be donated to Cancer charities.

Simple Plan have participated in many charitable events such as the MTV Exit Campaign; raising money to stop Human Trafficking (which in case you didn’t know, is where people including youth are used as slaves!), OSM benefit concert; Simple Plan teamed up with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and did an amazing job! The symphony played some popular SP songs with the band which gave it a completely different, yet awesome sound! (You can find these performances on YouTube) They managed to raise more than $300,000! By the end of the year, Simple Plan will have raised over 1 million dollars for charities worldwide! This was one of the reasons SP were were awarded the well-deserved Allan Waters Humanitarian Award! I think it is extremely important to recognise all the good things the guys are doing. Not only the foundation, but the way they act towards fans. Recently Pierre had vocal strain so he couldn’t perform, but instead of cancelling the show altogether they told fans on Twitter to still show up and hang out with Chuck, Seb, Jeff and David and that’s what they did! They just hung out and talked and even sung Happy Birthday to Seb as it was his birthday. This is true dedication. Simple Plan are always doing something to help others. Whether it’s simply replying to a fan’s tweet to hanging out with fans at soundcheck, which is very rare for most bands, not many artists do this, well not for $25 anyway! As the guys are always saying, as long as we love and support them, they will love us. They do this for themselves and the fans, haters will never make them give it up. Now that you have read this article, you will know that not only is SP’s music amazing, but pretty much everything else they do is too! Simple Plan helped raise money for the South East Asia tsunami victims, made a music video for ‘Untitled’ raising awareness to MADD (Mothers Against Drinking and Driving) organisation, they performed at Live 8 to raise awareness of the problems that are caused with world poverty and they still help with the Make-a-Wish and Children’s Wish Foundations. Simple Plan also gave hearing impaired kids in Canada and some of Europe a chance to hear a concert. With Sennheiser, SP gave those kids a once in a lifetime experience, with the help of cochlear implants. Also because of Simple Plan’s constant touring worldwide, they were given the chance to participate in charity events everywhere, but also visit sick children and teens in hospital and also helped out with kids who were in special schools. SP also signed a guitar which was auctioned for the Jean-Beliveau Foundation. If you heard about all those Haiti Earthquake victims who were affected, you might know that Canada did their part in helping by participating in two massive telethons, but also Pierre helped by recording Knaan’s song ‘Wavin’ Flag’ with a few young Canadian singers with all the profits going towards the Haiti victims. There is no reason why anyone should hate Simple Plan if they knew about what they do. I knew about the Foundation when I wrote this article, but I never read deeply into what they do, but after writing this article, I am left more inspired than I ever have been. I mean seriously, they gave hearing impaired kids a chance at hearing, a once in a lifetime chance. This is just so amazing; you don’t find many bands that go to this much effort to help. I am proud to be called an Astronaut and so should you. When the music saves lives

http://quebec.huffingtonpost.ca/chuck-comeau/fondation-simple-plan_b_1441209.html Publication: 20/04/2012 Thanks to the Huffington Post. This artcile was writen by Chuck Comeau in French and translated by Google translate. (So please excuse the English in this artcile!) On March 31, at the gala JUNO Awards, the group Simple Plan has received the award Allan Waters, which annually recognizes outstanding humanitarian commitment by a Canadian artist, for his work with the Foundation Simple Plan. Neil Young, Bryan Adams and Sarah McLachlan among other musicians recipients of this prestigious award. In 2012, the Simple Plan Foundation will reach the exceptional line of $ 1 million in donations to organizations that help young people in difficulty or sickness For our group, to receive an award that recognizes the work of our foundation is certainly one of the most beautiful moments of our career. It is a very special reward and it is certainly a night we will never forget. We sincerely appreciate it. When we had the idea to create the Simple Plan Foundation six years ago, none of us could have imagined the importance that it would take in our lives. Certainly, we never suspected certainly not all the work it would require. More importantly, none of us knew at that moment, how much does engage and share would be gratifying for us. Today, the Foundation has become an integral part of what we are as a group and as individuals and we can no longer define ourselves differently. We’ve all had the chance to grow up in families who have learned very young that when we filled life, he needed to know to be generous and give back to the community. We had the pleasure of knowing an outstanding career and have the incredible privilege to live our dreams. Every day we get up, travel the world and do what we love to do. There are just two weeks, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of our first album and at the same time, the 13 years of our training. We are grateful for all that life has given us. The foundation is our way of helping those who are perhaps not as fortunate as us. It is quite surprising that this, our careers as well as the foundation, we have the extraordinary power of music. It is through music that the five of us have found a passion, a purpose in our lives, and we become what we are today. This is the music that we could communicate with our fans around the world, they have found in our songs something meaningful that joined them and what they could hang. We can not say how many times it has happened that we see fans after a show and theytells us that, were it not for the music, they would not be here today. How many times have we received letters and emails from fans telling us that music is their own interest, their only motivation and the only thing that takes in life. The first time, we can take these words lightly and say they exaggerate, but when it happens again 10 times, 20 times or even hundreds of times, we can only realize that it is very real and sincere.

THE ALLAN WATERS AWARD A simple song in the right place at the right time, can change everything. This can bring a smile to transform a day to help them through difficult times, raising money for various good causes and sometimes even save a life. At a time when many consider music as a disposable product, it is more important than ever to remember how it plays an important role. This sums up the mission of the Simple Plan Foundation: helping troubled youth through the power of music. It is in this context that since the inception of the Foundation, we are trying to increase efforts to raise funds and awareness of the causes we hold dear: Annual benefit concerts foundation, participation in events such as Live 8 , MTV Asia Aid and We Day, video and initiatives against Drunk Driving MADD. RADD and Educ Alcohol, involvement in the benefit song “Waving Flag” for Haiti, sales campaigns bracelets and wallets for War Child, participation in the United Way campaign, selling t-shirts to benefit the Red Cross red to help victims of the Japanese earthquake ... These are some of the ways we can achieve our goals. In addition, we recently made the decision to give $ 1 from every ticket sold during our tours around the world. This is another way for us to ensure that we can continue the mission of the foundation. Obviously, all the work that the Simple Plan Foundation would not be possible without the collaboration of many people who support us. First, we want to thank our wonderful volunteers, none of them was itunesever paid and never received even one cent for this incredible commitment to the cause of youth: it is them we owe in large part, the fact of receiving the prize Allan Waters. It is also thanks to our fans who have supported us in all our initiatives for the charitable foundation that can help as many young people. They are also the ones who, with their many stories, their experiences and often very moving letters have inspired us to want to get involved and to “give back”. In closing, we wish to emphasize that we are very proud to be to this day, the youngest recipient of this award. Indeed, there is no requirement to wait for 50 or 60 years to begin to help others. We sincerely hope that this award will encourage other young bands and artists to engage. Special thanks to The Huffington Post

Bluenotes Fashion company shared

on their facbook page a picture of SP presenting a $28,000 check to Kids Help Phone. SP raised thimoney by the GYHO tshirts that Bluenotes sold and promoted in Canada. Kidhs help phone is an organiseation that provides a 24 hours youth counselling service in Canada. Once again a great example of SP helping young people!

Simple Plan to Fight Human Trafficking

MTV Exit is a campaign which stands to eliminate human trafficking and exploitation worldwide. MTV host events such as concerts to raise awareness of these issues, and Simple Plan were recently involved in an MTV Exit concert and documentary, where the boys traveled to Vietnam to play a concert for 40,000 fans and learn more about human trafficking. The concert was held in Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam on the 26th of May, 2012. The guys headlined the show, supported by Australian artist Kate Miller-Heidke, Vietnamese artist My Tam and Korean pop band Brown Eyed Girls before travelling to Sapa. They were able to speak to, meet and spend time with many of the locals, which is what the documentary mainly focuses on, and apart from seeing a small clip at the beginning of the documentary there is no live footage. This is a small let down but in the long run doesn’t matter, because the documentary is an honestly amazing one. The day following the concert, the guys from Simple Plan spent some time in Hanoi before taking an overnight train to Sapa, a relatively small community in North Vietnam. Upon the arrival of the train, the boys went in a van to the location of the documentary, though facing hardships along the way (aka, their van got bogged in the mud.). They stayed at the Topas Ecolodge which is a really beautiful lodge, and I’m sure you saw the pictures they posted on their various networks of the accommodation. While in Sapa, SP were educated even further on human trafficking, exploitation and the horrible things that have happened to people who have been trafficked. They worked with two organisations, Sapa O’Chau (which literally translates to thank you, Sapa) and Pacific Links. Both these organisations are dedicated to helping victims and potential victims of human trafficking and exploitation to get on their feet and to avoid trafficking in the first place. SP spent time talking to victims of human trafficking, talking to friends of people who had been trafficked, speaking to the leaders of Sapa O’Chau and Pacific Links and just overall being educated on how horrible trafficking is. As David said, he didn’t even know this stuff was going on and still going on to this day. Throughout the documentary we see small interviews about their experience and how it affected all the members of SP. Not only did this experience have a profound impact on all of the guys, it has a huge impact on the viewers of the documentary. In one part, we see the boys teaching the children in the Sapa O’Chau School how to sing Summer Paradise, and we later see them playing an acoustic show with all the children singing along. Also at the school, we see SP making the young girls say a pledge and give their fingerprints to signify that they will not be trafficked, and they will know better and will be able to avoid being trafficked. I saw this documentary when I was really sick so not only was I sick and watery-eyed due to coughing and blowing my nose multiple times an hour, I was an emotional wreck and seeing this just made me sit there sobbing and yelling ‘MY BABIES’ and ‘LOOK AT SEBBY’ and various other comments like that. It was incredibly moving though, and it honestly made me appreciate what I have a lot more. The people being trafficked in not only Vietnam but all over the world are generally people who have nothing, and will accept these supposed offers so they are able to have a proper life, and they end up being tricked in to slavery and prostitution and other absolutely horrifying things. Generally, they are promised marriage or a job opportunity in which they think they will be able to have a life and money. One story from this that really stood out for me was one that the founders of one of the organisations told SP, about a girl who lived on one of the mountains. This girl’s dream was to own a pair of flip-flops, because she wasn’t able to own some of her own due to being too poor, and she had never owned shoes in her life. One day, a man came to her with the promise of giving her shoes, and she was so eager because she thought her dream was coming true, but this man had completely and utterly tricked her, and he ended up trafficking her. It just goes to show how damn lucky we are to be able to have the privilege to be able to be educated and not be so gullible as to fall for these gimmicks, and to be able to see these documentaries and other so we’re able to have better judgement, and live a good life where the likelihood of us being trafficked is incredibly low. It really just makes you think, and is a wonderful documentary. You can see SP’s acoustic performance in Sapa here: http://www.alterthepress.com/2012/05/simple-plan-perform-acoustic-set-in.html and read more about MTV Exit here: http://www.mtvexit.org/

other ways SP Help The guys participated in a photo-shoot for peta a while ago to stop the killing of animals for their fur. They are all big lovers of animals so they went to peta because they wanted to help in some way. Although the photo is really graphic, they wanted it to be that way. They wanted to show how bad it was. They still do their part to help animals too. Pierre and Lachelle have been spotted with Delilah protesting about stopping horsedrawn carriages. Just before Christmas last year Chuck and SÊbastien visited sick kids in three Montreal Hospitals: St-Justine Hospital, Montreal Children’s Hospital and Le Phare, Enfants et Familles.

War Child Canada is one organisation that the SP Foundation have supported from the start. Do the kids appreciate it? It seems so!

ninesonsofdan If you were at the Townsville and Mackay SP concerts then you would have seen this amazing band. I was lucky enough to catch up with Flakey, the bands drummer to ask a few questions about the band and what it was like to tour with SP. Huge thanks to Flakey for taking the time to answer so many questions! You love SP if you are reading this I encourage you to take a listen to these guys, Diamond Skin is my favourite!

history...... How did you guys meet?

written by Jen and Sian. @justjenrees @sianiigoesrawrr

Well I moved to QLD to study music, Alex was living with me, and through him we invited Jay, who was still living in Coffs Harbour to come make some music for us. We met Dan a while after, and invited him to come jam too! Wil was brought in a few years after all this to fill in on bass. We all actually met a little earlier than that, when I filled in playing drums for Jay’s band in Coffs Harbour, but nothing really came from it. When did you first start making music together? Well that all happened around 2008, so yeah I would say then. How did you come up with the name The Nine Sons of Dan? Our friend actually came up with it for us when we were brainstorming; pretty funny really, it’s named after a group of nine of us who hung out a lot at the time, and.. Dan Murphy’s bottle shop, which was just around the corner from our place. Very classy. Did you have in mind a particular musical direction that you wanted to take, or did you just start playing and wait to see what came out? Well given what everyone was good at we weren’t expecting Dream Theater to drip from our finger tips haha! But we didn’t and still don’t really try to make anything in a particular direction, we just make music we honestly like, and enjoy playing. Who are some of your biggest musical inspirations? I guess we all have our own, but in terms of which ones have an effect on the band, Jay loves Dave Grohl and the other big personality front-men; I think that works really well with him, but he also digs Brandon Boyd (Incubus) a lot, I think he also wants to put a lot of work into his vocals with NSOD. Dan has always liked Glam/Heavy Rock stuff, we tone it down for some songs but if you see us live you can definitely tell what he looks up to lol! Loves all his effects and solo work. Pidgey is always been into Blink 182 and John Mayer so I think that’s rubs off on the girls somehow lol, and Wil likes a bit of different stuff, I know he digs his alt rock a lot. I’m all about Gospel drumming right now, and I won’t rest ‘til we release a church hymns album. Haha!

the EP...... The New Kids.... How does your songwriting process typically go? Do you all have an input in the writing of the music? It’s differed throughout the years, but one thing we have wanted to focus on is good songwriting and bringing out key elements in our band; one of which has shone out has been Jay’s voice, so we have wanted to start from that point with writing a lot of the time. He always has some cool ideas, so we can always go from there. Sometimes it’s pretty straight forward, and sometimes it needs everyone’s input. What comes first the music or the lyrics? and also does the whole group partake in the process? Probably a better question for Jay, but I know he refines lyrics after the music has been done; he focuses on a key melody first so that always gets done along with the music, and then he can fine tune what he is singing. He goes about the whole lyrical thing pretty solo, and that’s working really well so far! Where did the name The new Kids come from? Why did you settle on that as the EP title? Well there were a few, but The New Kids kind of stated where we were when we released it, although the Kids moniker might not sit for too long, we’re going to get old soon enough! Haha But honestly we have been working really hard to get to a point to where we can be seen, and now that we have that opportunity, I guess we are the New Kids, we want to be noticed and show everyone what we are made of. Of all the tracks on the EP, which one did you have the most fun recording? Ughh none, my arm was all messed up so it sucked. Joking! FUN was coincidentally really… fun, because we all got to do group vocals at the end of tracking. I really enjoyed recording Diamond Skin, I know that was a really special one for everyone. Live You guys have been touring a lot recently and have a show with Yellowcard coming up. Have they been an inspiration to you? To say at the least; I’ve been listening to Yellowcard since I was a little kid, and their energy and charisma have motivated me so much, I’m sure I can say the same for the other boys. Just being able to perform with your idols always inspires you to work harder. How did you get the concert with Yellowcard? Our manager worked on getting that support slot for us; like anything, it’s up to us to play well, work hard to let people know we’re serious about this, from there our manager can approach people and say – “See, I told you they were serious.. now how about that Yellowcard support!” Haha! Or maybe he just bribes them I’m not sure yet.

What do you look forward to the most about playing live? Beating the snot out of drums!; I think the other guys are the same. Although without the drums/snot. Is there a track you like to play live the most? I love playing Animal, but FUN is pretty rad because we can get the whole crowd involved. What is the first thing you do when you come off stage? Good question, I usually need a lot of water/ice and a towel, and hopefully somewhere cool so I can relax. Sometimes it gets a bit full on so it’s good to wind down. But from there go say hi and thankyou to everyone who watched us! What is a great story that you can tell us about touring, for example have you ever left anything important behind? Oh god, too many of those. Jay has a habit of leaving things behind so that has happened a bit, but as for GREAT stories.. Pidgey threw an NSOD shirt at Joel Madden’s head (yes, it hit him) to try get him to pick it up while Good Charlotte were playing. Unfortunately, he didn’t seem to notice, but a great story nonetheless.

band merch! Do you have any merchandise available? SP fans love to buy merch especially tees and hoodies! We sure do, we have a had a huge range available for most of the year, you can check it all out on our Nine Sons Of Dan Facebook page, but we are in the middle of updating it to a new style for summer! How can fans keep in touch with you? All the usual ways, Twitter, Facebook! How can fans help you get more air play? Eg, are you registered with Channel V? Yes, we definitely are, we actually made a video on our Youtube channel to encourage our fans to vote for us on Channel V! Our video clip, “Diamond Skin” can be requested on there! What is the best way that fans can show you that they support you? Well, anyway they would like! Voting for us on Channel V at the moment would be amazing, and following us on Twitter, watching our Youtube videos and even buying a song if they like it on Itunes goes a long way to helping us out! How do you see your future? What’s next in terms of the bigger picture for The Nine Sons of Dan? We are actually just waiting to hear back about when we will be touring again this year! So after we do that, we will be releasing another single, and touring that, by the looks of things that will be early next year. And fingers crossed we can make it to America next year too! Do you have any advice for younger musicians? I think the most important thing, would be just to be yourself and and enjoy what you’re doing. There will be a lot of really cool opportunities that will come if you work hard, but don’t worry about them too much, just enjoy it while you can do it!

simple plan and nine sons of dan...... Were you SP fans before you toured with them? Haha of course we were; I think everyone our age was listening to Simple Plan when they were growing up! How did you manage to get on tour with SP for 2 shows of their Australian Tour? Again, the opportunity came up and our amazing and most likely Super-human manager jumped on it, and we were lucky enough to get the spots! What was it like working with SP? So great, the shows were unbelieveable, and the crowds were so nice. The guys from Simple Plan were all such professionals, but down to earth as well. It was such a privilege to perform with them. Is there any way that SP influences NSOD? Seeing their live show was a totally different experience from just hearing them. They are very talented performers, and the live show was non-stop, full of humour, and basically a flawless performance. Seeing that made us realize what was possible so we are always striving to become that polished live. Do you have any funny stories you can share with us about SP and the tour? Hmmm‌ Yes! There are a few too many too list right now, but we were invited to an after party with guys after our last show with them, and when we got there, everyone was really tame and quiet. In about 20 minutes, people were dancing on tables, and Chuck was this like break dancer move on an office chair and there was an old dial up telephone in his hand for some reason. Good times!

REVIEW OF TOWNSVILLE CONCERT SUPPORTING SIMPLE PLAN written by Sian @sianiigoesrawrr Nine Sons Of Dan were the perfect opening band for Simple Plan for their Townsville show. The minute they walked on stage, the crowd seemed to feed off their energy and it was apparent they had a fair amount of their own fans in the audience. They started their short set with “You Took My Heart” which -if I'm correct- hadn't yet been released. The crowd was cheering and clapping and by the end they were singing along to the chorus. Next they went straight into “Diamond Skin”. Their first single of their upcoming album “The New Kids”. This was the newest song to be released and it was definitely a good choice to get their fans hyped up and also, most likely, gain some new ones. The band then played another new song “Villain” and I have to say, as soon as the beat changed after the intro I was hooked! One song I was not a fan of was “Landslide”. Though after seeing it performed live, it's one of my favourites. Daniel Cox (lead guitar) was incredible during the performance of this song and the solo following. It was impossible to not have your eyes drawn to him. The way he was playing and the energy he had was absolutely remarkable! “She's So Fine” which at the time was their most known song was the perfect song to follow as by this stage the whole crowd semed to be enjoying themselves and the band seemed to be getting more and more into it. During this song Jay Bainbridge (lead vocals) leaned down to the girl next to me in the front row, grabbed her hand and sang the chorus directly to her. Bonus points for fan interaction! They finished their set with another yet to be released song “Fun”. It was definitely a fun song! They got everyone singing along to the chorus and it was the perfect way to finish their set and leave the crowd even more excited and pumped to see Simple Plan.

SONG OF THE MONTH: crazy Crazy by Simple Plan was released in October 2005, and was their fourth single from their album "Still Not Getting Any". The song, being one of the most serious and inspirational songs off their second album, talks about the biggest issues of todays society, and how the world is basically going crazy, because we are all so self absorbed and caught up in our life's to take a moment to help and appreciate people who truly need help. THE VIDEO: The music video starts out in Black and white, with the band performing as the video cuts between different people, undergoing different struggles. Like a gothic girl, a military man shunned from society, a group of people with obesity problems, A girl with a self harming history, and a young woman who looks like she wants plastic surgery. The music video slowly changes out of Black and white to a full color video, symbolizing that no matter how dark and grey life can be, it always gets better and brighter in the end.

We asked what does the song Crazy mean to you? Fans awnswered..... "I love the song crazy. When Pierre played it at the Melbourne concert I cried. It is all about what is actually wrong in the world. People are not happy with what they have and who they are. Everyone should open their eyes and help each other." - Casey "The song Crazy should be released again as a single. It is just as relevant today as it was back when it was written. It is not fair that people are driving big expensive cars and kids are starving. Seriously what is wrong with the world?" - Sean "The song crazy is a perfect way to describe our society today, how families are torn apart, money is our first priority and that people in SUVs drive around while people starve in the streets. In my view it is probably their best song as has it has a real meaning its more then just relationships and being famous, its about real world problems that something has to be done to fix them." - Nick

“What I think about the song Crazy by Simple Plan. This is a song about the society being obsessed with what they want or what they do that they don’t care if people will get hurt or anything and on what they are doing. Let’s be honest we all want to have an awesome and comfortable life with fancy cool cars, big houses and stuff like that and yes there’s nothing wrong with that but we must always remember those people who are in need of a lot of things more than we do.” - Sam (@aweSAM_SP) “I think crazy is an amazing song, it speaks so honestly about the way things work and I believe that it’s a great song. I love the lyrics and its one of my top 5 simple plan songs. It’s a great song and in total its really amazing” -Luke

We asked? Favorite lyrics? Fans answered..........

“Is everybody going Crazy? Is everybody gonna save me?" -@Raydo27 “No one cares, no one likes to share. I guess life’s unfair” "This lyrics clearly states that most people only care about themselves they don’t care about other people behind them who are having a hard time." - Sam (@aweSAM_SP) "I guess things are not how they used to be There's no more normal families" "If you open your eyes you'll see that something is wrong" "While kids are are starving on the streets No one cares No one likes to share I guess life's unfair" - Jen W "Tell me what's wrong with society When everywhere I look I see Rich guys driving big SUVs While kids are starving in the streets" "I am most passionate about world hunger. As my work place would agree with how many hours I have put into organising a bake sale, a car wash, raffles (including doing rounds to ask and collect from local bussiness donating) lolly guessing comps to comps for my co workers. All out of my own time. I enjoy doing it every year or two. You may know it as World Hunger Relief at any KFC or Pizza Hutt store." -Courtney “If you open your eyes, you’ll see that something is wrong...” “I think that people are just too damn busy with their lives to stop, open their eyes and acknowledge that there is a big problem with the world. Simple Plan had the guts to admit it through this amazing, powerful song…if only more people were like this, the world would be a much better place.” -Erin written by Nina

“Diet pills, surgery, photoshopped pictures in magazines, telling them how they should be, it doesn’t make sense to me...” “These lyrics are so true in today’s society. it’s crazy (pun not intended) how girls/boys try and change themselves to suit the way other people want to perceive them! i personally just don’t understand why people aren’t able to just be themselves, instead of worrying about how others will think of them! these particular lyrics perfectly describe how i feel sometimes.” -Kayla Tell me what’s wrong with society when everywhere I look I see young girls dying to be on TV who won’t stop till they’ve reached their dreams, diet pills, surgery, photoshopped pictures in magazines telling them how they should be it doesn’t make sense to me...” That’s the part I really love because it shows that everyone lately only cares about fame and looks. Everyone just seems to compare themselves to someone famous or someone they know, and it ends up making them feel bad about their self image. They shouldn’t though because you’re you for a reason, and you shouldn’t have to be something you’re not. I personally do this but I hate that I do, people really shouldn’t have to feel that they should be someone else.” -Kelly H “I don’t have a favourite lyric from this song, the whole song is beautifully powerful and sheds light on the way the world really is. People are too selfish to look outside their own lives and realise that there are millions of people on the world that have nothing and are in desperate need of help. It takes very little money and time to help people in need and it can change these people’s lives when in today’s society all everyone complains about is things they don’t have. As the song says “if you open your eyes, you’ll see that something is wrong” I wish people would open their eyes and realise that most of them have no reason to be complaining at all!” - Kelly D “No one cares, no one’s there, I guess we’re all just too damn busy; And money’s our first priority It doesn’t make sense to me” “These are my favourite set of lyric because money shouldn’t be our first priority. People go everyday without appreciating what really matters. It’s the little things in life that makes it what it is: your child’s first word or step, achieving a goal that you’ve worked hard on, a memory that makes you smile (or cry), meeting your fave band for the first time, the sunrise and sun set, etc. Most importantly family and friends!” -Lenore

SIMPLE PLAN WEBSITES We all know one thing that Simple Plan is grateful for, their fans. SP are lucky to have such a huge fan base, so there’s no surprise that they have so many fan made websites, groups and even Facebook pages. Sure they have their own website, but it’s not updated as often as other pages unless it’s big news. One of my favourite sites would have to be simpleplan.cz, it’s in Czech but can be translated to English, so it accommodates to more people. They update all the time and include so much. It’s like they follow SP around all day because they always have something to write about them. They announce projects that the guys do individually too. They have lots of little extras too, like all the music videos they have done, female singers that have sung ‘Jetlag’ with them and also who they have opened for and who has opened for them. You can also enjoy thousands of great photos, from their photo shoots (some of which haven’t even been released by SP themselves)to live photos which are in really good quality! It’s lucky that this site is also free, no signing up necessary! http://www.simpleplan.cz/en/ Another great site is ConexaoSimplePlan.com, a lot like Simpleplan.cz but also contains different news, also contains many great photos and other little extras! Check it out http: http://www.conexaosimpleplan.com/ca/ If you want all of those news and photos in one place, then be sure to look them up on Facebook and hit ‘like’! Your newsfeed will be spread with SP related news! Search Simple Plan and go on a liking spree! Some great pages worth looking up are: SIMPLE PLAN!!, Simple Plan Always In Our Hearts and my favourite, Simple Plan, I need their music although the writing isn’t always in English, the photos are worth it! P.S Don’t forget to like our page ‘Simple Plan Space’. You can also find great groups about SP, I happen to be a part of one, and it’s a great little community of friendly Astronauts talking about that one thing that your friends don’t want to hear about. SP – Austranadians Unite is purely awesome! Everyone is so nice and welcomes everyone into the group. So if you can handle the nonstop notifications, join us! Request to friends with Jen Rees. Don’t forget about Twitter either, although there is a 140 character limit, you can still enjoy quick updates and make new friends. Just look through who’s following us and who we’re following (@SimplePlanSpace) and prepare to make new friends. Simple Plan brings us all together. Although you can make really great friends, always remember to be careful on the internet.

During September The Never Ever released the music video for their Single Breathe. The fans were kept in suspense during the countdown to the announcement. Clues were given, some easy and some not so easy! (really weird clues!) Most fans guessed that it was new music or a new tour, until the clue about the time. (clue number 5, 3.36)Most fans then knew that it had something to do with the song Breathe as that is the play time of the song! The clue that was the hardest to work out was an old lady yelling at Lani……… Find out why below!

The story of the video is of a young boy breaking into an abandoned warehouse and creating a work of art out of the rubbish. The band are super energetic and the overall effect is a great video to complement a great song! I caught up with Lani and chatted about the new video. 1)You said that the inspiration for the music video came while being stuck in a traffic jam in Melbourne? Tell us about that. We did, we were on our way home from a show in Melbourne and started throwing ideas around for a film clip, some of our ideas were ridiculous, but a few really stuck and turned into the final script for the Breathe film clip. 2) Pete from Epic video produced the video for you. We all know Pete as an awesome video maker of SP videos and the much awaited Aus Tour DVD, what was it like working with him? Pete is a great friend of ours, we had been admiring his work for months before the Simple Plan tour and coincidentally met him on that tour. He's a great dude to work with, very easy going but gets the job done! Read this article on the video on Kill Your Stereo! http://www.killyourstereo.com/news/14651/the-never-ever-release-new-video/

Check this video out here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVj9W8AN6PY

3) What was the whole shooting experience? Can you tell us any funny stories? We set up around 2pm the day of the shoot and left at 2am the next morning so it was a long shoot. At one point, a little past midnight, an older lady in a nightgown and what looked like a shower cap wandered in and told me off for making so much noise. I explained through hand gestures that I couldn’t hear her because of the drums. She was a little unimpressed. 4) How can fans help you share this video? Sharing on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr are the best ways to get our video out there! You’ll be seeing it on some music shows in the months to come, you can also request Breathe on your local radio station! Once again a huge thank you to Lani for answering my questions! Written by Jen You've got the heart but I've got the heartbeat. @justjenrees I've got three words but I'm losing slowly. I take her hand but she tries to let go. I'm moving forward, she's moving too slow. You want diamonds, I don't need a best friend. I'm always trying, trying to forget. Answer me this, when you said forever, did you take the for and replace it with never? What would I know? We're a heart attack waiting and the beat, it is racing. Breathe in just to leave me breathless. The world won't wait for the young and reckless. We're a heart attack waiting and the beat, it is racing. Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in just to leave me breathless. You're spinning lies, you speak them through clenched teeth. Take off your mask girl 'cause I see what's beneath. I'll never know what you'll never tell me but I'll always see what you'll never show me. Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in just to leave me breathless again. I know it sounds really corny and cheesy but music is a language that everybody speaks." – David Desrosiers “Having people write us emails, having someone say ‘that song really helped me out in my life’. If other people can relate to our music, it’s exciting.” – Chuck Comeau

“Love -- You should not waste time talking or acting on things you hate or don’t like. If you do have time to waste, use it on talking about what you love, and to the people that you love. There’s never enough of that.” - Sebastién Lefebvre People will always say bad things about you, whether you’re in school, or whether you’ve got a job, or whatever. And I think the reason we’re here today is because we don’t let that get to our heads too much. Look at the positive. And my point is, that you should apply this to your life. GOOD CHARLOTTE! On Sept 20th I found myself back at Festival Hall with the same friends that I went with to SP. The only dif-

ference was this time it was Good Charlotte. I have loved GC as long as I have SP so was looking forward to seeing them again. This was the first concert that they had played this year, Joel used The Voice and many band members popping out babies as their excuse. Paul’s wife was due in around 10 days after the concert and Billy has a newborn. Either way the quality of the concert forced us to forgive them! GC were supported by a Sydney Act called Strangers, I did not like them, but each to their own. GC started off as always with The Anthem, this song certainly gets the fans pumped up for the rest of the concert. The crowd sang so loud and Joel made the most of the interaction. After that song Joel swore then apologised to his mother who was watching from the Balcony. After that there was not much swearing! (unlike Strangers) The third song, Misery (see set list thanks to http://www. setlist.fm/setlist/good-charlotte) was fantastic. It was not a favourite of mine before the concert but it is now! Not many people seemed to know the next two songs but got right back into the swing of things with keep your hands off my girl. When Joel asked if it was anyone’s birthday one girl I was with screamed as it was her birthday the next day. We all then laughed as Joel said that this song is for everyone whose birthday it was not. Obviously that was Like it’s her birthday. Benji performed a couple of solo songs, he joked that it was his time to shine as usually it was Joel’s. I am not ashamed to admit it I had tears in my eyes when he sang Emotionless. We sang the chorus with him but the verses, we were all quiet as he had us all captivated. The effect of the lights making him a solo figure on the stage (just like Pierre in Crazy and Perfect) was fantastic. The best song of the night for me was Last night. Not my fav GC song but the verbal intro to it was so funny. Joel said that it is based on a true story that happened to Benji in Melbourne. NOT SYDNEY! (Australian Inside Joke) They then played I just wanna live and said they wanted to play all night but Festival Hall has a strict curfew so they could only do one more song which was Lifestyles of the rich and famous. I was surprised that they did not play The story of my old man or Chronicles of Life and Death. However the set list was brilliant and if I could relive it I would be there in a heart beat. (Yes Pun is intentional!) The stage presence of GC was exceptional. The jokes and the chats they had were amusing. They even thanked the mums and dads for coming and bringing their kids to see them. The general age of the crowd was older than SP, which is a testament to their original fans. We saw them outside after the concert I got a few pics but they left pretty quick. I caught up with a mate outside and his girlfriend and lot of my students that called out Miss!!!!. It was a great night and I can’t wait to see them again!

ARE ROCK CONCERTS GOOD FOR YOU? Recently I came accross this article on facebook (linked to tumblr) and really loved what it told me! (thanks http://concertweirdos.tumblr.com and Sian) Usually after a rock concert, I have no voice, a pounding headache and my feet ache, as well as sore neck and shoulders. Feel the same? Then read below! Going to rock concerts can be good for you! This makes me feel better as this year I have been to more concerts than I ever have before and still have 4 more to go. Next year is looking as good as this one was! So regardless of it’s validity as i have no idea who wrote it, each point makes some sense. 10 Reasons Why Going to Concerts Is Good For Your Health! People go to music concerts for many reasons. Some people watch concerts to support their favorite music idols, others go to concerts to have fun with friends, while others watch concerts to enjoy music.
But for whatever reason it is, many studies show that going to concerts is actually good for your health.

Here are some reasons why: 1. The feeling of excitement that a concert brings causes a sudden rush of adrenalin that is good for the heart. 2. This activity will also allow one to burn calories which can be a good form of physical exercise for the day. 3. Live music gives an uplifting feeling that is good for physical and emotional well being. 4. Live concerts allow one to perspire which leads to faster metabolism. 5. Going to concerts is a healthy alternative to spending an evening at home watching television. 6. Watching your favorite music icon, live, can bring a sense of confidence that can boost your overall well being. 7. Live concerts are social gatherings that can promote positive energy resulting to overall good health and great physical outlook. 8. Listening to live music can enhance your senses, resulting to more alert and active physical condition. 9. Being within a live concert promotes confidence that can lead to a healthier approach in life. 10. Live music can bring about a healthy balance that is good for the body and mind.

FAN OF THE MONTH KELLY

It was my great pleasure to get to know our fan of the month durinq our Q&A time. Kelly has now become a friend of mine even though she lives on the other side of the world. Kelly now joins us as a member of our team at SP SPace. Read more to get to know Kelly!

Question: When was the first time you heard about Simple Plan? Answer: From what I remember, I had been watching fan-videos on YouTube of my obsessions at the time, two TV shows. And they had set a song to it. The first one I remember hearing was ‘Grow Up’ and I thought “Hey, this song is pretty clever. It perfectly describes the characters.” And when the video was over, in the description it said ‘Grow Up by Simple Plan’ Q: When was your first SP show? A: It could’ve been November 29th, 2011. My parents told me you had to be 16 to get in, and I think they misunderstood… But the next time they come back, I’m going for sure! Q: How long have you been an SP fan? A: Since roughly 2009 I would say. But I really became obsessed spring 2011. Q: How many times have you seen SP live? A: None yet, but I plan to. Q: What do you like most about Simple Plan? A: I like how they can relate to a group of kids (or adults) that most people don’t seem to understand. They always know the right things to say in their songs, and they make you feel like you’re not alone anymore and that what you’re going through will go away eventually. I also like how the guys are so down to Earth and haven’t become total jerks in the 13 years they’ve been a band. All of them are kind enough to go out and meet the fans and chat with them. And I like their sense of humor and how funny they seem to be. Q: What’s your favorite possession of Simple Plan and why? A: Well, I haven’t gotten my posters or shirts yet, and my SP Crew stuff has yet to arrive. So I think that leaves me with the current CDs I own, but I mostly listen to them on my iPhone. Wait, I do have the ‘I Got a Heart On for You’ or something like that shirt so that! And because my mom’s friend got it for me. Q: Say what Simple Plan means to you. A: They mean the absolute world to me. I had really got into them two years ago, when I was really down and about to lose total hope and just give up on everything because of a bunch of jerks. I would come hope from school everyday, listen to SP all day and just end up crying in my room because I was terrified to go back to school the next day. Simple Plan helped me get through that and I couldn’t ever thank them enough. The guys just put a smile on my face and can make me laugh.

Want to be fan of the month in the future? tweet us @simpleplanspace to apply.

Q: Favorite Simple Plan song and why? A: I don’t really have a favorite, but I’ll admit I’m Just a Kid has a sentimental meaning to me. It seems like such a simple song, but to me it will always hold a special purpose since it was the song that held me through a tough part of life. Q: What’s your favorite part of ABPFY? A: Getting to have a closer look into the guy’s lives. Oh, and when Sebastien said “When there’s no top on the bus, it’s windy.” That was hilarious. Q: If you could spend a whole day with SP what would you do? A: I don’t know. I’m so indecisive I would go along with whatever they wanted to do, cause hey, I’m hanging out with Simple Plan! Q: Have you made friends thanks to Simple Plan? A: Of course, tons! I’m so grateful! And if I hadn’t I surely wouldn’t be part of the magazine, plus my life would be a lot more dull. Q: Favorite SP quote? A: Hmm, I don’t know. I like the ones I see where Pierre introduces This Song Saved My Life. Those are always nice, since I can relate to them well. And the ones where they are saying not to let anyone bring you down. Q: Favorite Simple Plan video? A: I like Your Love is a Lie. The concept of having the flowers start to wither and die was personally a very clever idea and props to who came up with the idea for it! Q: If you could say anything to Simple Plan right now, what would you tell them? A: I would tell them that I love their work, I think they’re absolutely adorably hilarious, and thanks for them to give me the courage and strength to move on with life when everyone else just ignored me. Q: Favorite lyrics off No Pads? A: So many to choose from…agh, I would have to say I like the first verse of One Day. I feel that that relates to me a lot when I get pissed off at my parents for not letting me do something I want to, which ends up being A LOT. I’m a very enraged teen, in my opinion.

Vous Êtes Ici Seb’s Solo work part 2 written by Kalila aka @pierreboobier

So if you’ve heard any of Sébastien’s solo work, you’ll know it’s almost a polar opposite to the music he makes with Simple Plan. And if you haven’t heard any of his work, I suggest you stop reading this for a moment and go listen to some of his songs right now. His solo EPs show off a more laidback & less full on side of Seb, with a more acoustic & stripped back sound. All his EP’s have been self-produced in the Man Of The Hour studio in Seb’s house. Sébastien’s first EP, ‘You Are Here/Vous Êtes Ici’ is definitely a far cry from SP. His musical influences for this EP range from Jack Johnson & Coldplay to Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash. Released in October 2009, the EP has a total of 7 tracks. ‘You Are Here’ begins with Décoller, which is the introduction to the EP. The song has no words, and is just a song to lead you in to the rest of the album. Décoller is followed by Comatose, which used to be a dance song. According to Seb it’s a song about nothing, it’s about waking up in the morning and still feeling drowsy after your sleep. Comatose is followed by La Nouvelle Vie, which is the only French song on the EP, though it also has an English chorus. The song is a cute romantic song with the guitar, ukulele and maracas, and is basically about leaving town and starting over with a girl, hence the title of ‘La Nouvelle Vie’ which literally translates to ‘the new life’. Good Night is the next song, which is more of an upbeat and happy song, which Seb describes as sounding “like a campfire song”. It has the melodica, which is basically a small piano that has a blowing tube and sounds like a harmonica, but cooler. I Fall For You follows Good Night, and is the first and only single off the album. The video was directed by Seb’s SP bandmate Chuck Comeau, and you can watch it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pocDY3NkHwc. The next song, Life Goes On is about walking around Montréal, seeing all the old horse carriages and happy people and families and everything, and as Patrick said, is basically and ‘Ode to Montreal’. The last song on the record is ‘The One,’ which is basically a love song and says that someone is, as the title suggests, ‘the one’ for him. All in all, a really cute love and acoustic guitar-driven record. It’s very well recorded and put together, and a really nice & upbeat album to listen to on a sunny day. You can buy Vous Êtes Ici here http://itunes.apple.com/au/album/you-are-here-vous-etes-ici/id340194977 or a physical copy here http://www.merchdirect.com/SebastienLefebvre/CDs/YouAreHere/?productid=11369

And I think the reason we’re here today is because we don’t let that get to our heads too much. Look at the positive. And my point is, that you should apply this to your life. It’s important to focus on what you believe in and what you’re doing and what if you believe in it, and I think it’s important to remember you’re a beautiful person.” – Pierre Bouvier “Everybody can speak the language of music. I know it sounds really corny and cheesy but music is a language that everybody speaks.” – David Desrosiers “Having people write us emails, having someone say ‘that song really helped me out in my life’. If other people can related to our music, it’s exciting.” – Chuck Comeau “Love -- You should not waste time talking or acting on things you hate or don’t like. Of you do have time to waste, use it on talking about what you love, and to the people that you love. There’s never enough of that.” – Sebastién Lefebvre (by Kalila aka @pierreboobier)
