about me Hi there, My name is Jente and I’m a junior industrial designer, graduated at Ghent University in 2015.

Next to drawing and making things, I also have passions for music and sports.

Since I was a little kid, I drew the things around me: every holiday I took my little sketchbook with me. Together with my skillful dad, we also made some things I drew at home. Later on I tried more to style things that interested me. Next to drawing, I also became interested in how things worked practically. I once bought an old motorbike and disassembled it to look how it worked technically inside. So the choice of becoming an industrial designer was quite predestinated.

As a kid I learned to play the guitar; first on my own, later with some friends in a band. When I grew older, I also became interested in electronic music and teached myself how to spin and produce music in my spare time. I still do this a lot when having some time left in between my different design projects. During the weekends you can find me in the local youth club where I volunteer as an allround creative chairman.

URBAN FESTIVAL TENT For this project we had to design a new tent concept that could be used on summer festivals. This project was for a creative organisation, named Bolwerk. We choose for the context of a natural, seaside environment where the wind has a major role. Our bar tent was designed and tested to rotate with the wind so people could buy and consume their drinks sheltered against the wind. Next to the design of the tent we also had to do the engineering part: calculations on stresses, material selection and other.

EDUBOTS This project was an assignment for Google: we had to design a modular robot building kit for programmer students in Argentina. With a few building blocks, the students should be able to build at least two different types of robots which they can program afterwards. We choose to design a line follower (robot follows a drawn line) and a towerbot (shoot each other’s tower down, using a catapult). Connections and other addons were designed for digital prototyping using 3D-printers and lasercutters. Jonathan Engels & Louise Dumon

ARCAID For this project, we had the task to design an useful application for a high-end SPIKE laser sensor with smartphone application. Together with an electronics student, we made an interactive aiming assistant for archery. A smartphone application and electronic hardware system were designed, exchangeable to the bow. As a product designer, my job was to elaborate the 3D printed case for the electronics and the implementation in the bow. After 12 weeks we became a goodlooking and working prototype that has been demonstrated on a fair in Torino. The system was able to aim 10 cm margin to a target at 10m distance (no wind involved).

Sievert van Esch & Jeroen Vervaeke

UTIL UTIL was a Small Business Project were we designed an ergonomical and exchangeable multitool for the maker market. For this project we had to elaborate a business plan with the financial, marketing and product aspects of our company and product. My task was to focus on the design of the multitool itself and it’s production. A 3D printed and working prototype was achieved. Bruno De Naeyer, Niels Kinds, Esmee Vanbeselaere, Simon Millecam

TENNIS BALL THROWER This was a project for Design For Every One (D4E1). We had to design a product for both guide dog and disabled person with muscle paralysis. She wanted to fetch her dog but didn’t have the power to throw the ball. Another aim for the project was that the product could be produced for low volumes using suitable production processes and also different varieties should be able to be made. We designed a detachable tennis ball thrower with DC-electrical driven wheels. Gears and case are lasercutted parts (low volume production), while other parts were standardized and could be produced with basic equipment in local workshops.

Lore Vandemaele, Francis Foubert, Claudia Marc (ESP)

MODULAR STAGE DESIGN This was a project for a local big band in Kortrijk. They asked us to think about how a big band should look like in the future. Big bands nowadays are a loose and chaotic mix of cables, instruments and music stands. We designed a modular system based on curtain rail profiles, attachable to standard stage elements. These standardized profiles have gutters to put in the cables on the back side and LED lighting on the front side. This creates a great overall look of curving lines through the podium. Also add-ons were designed with the same esthetics to fit the rest of the rail system. In this way connectors, instruments and music stands could be attached to the modular rail system. Lore Vandemaele, Korneel De Viaene, Asha Derumeaux, Simon Millecam

COMPOSITE FOLDING BIKE This was my master thesis before I graduated as a Master Industrial Design at UGent campus Kortrijk. During the year I designed a modular composite folding bike for commuters. Because of the performant, functional and dynamic styling, the bike folds up very compactly and has a modular character. Therefore the bike can be produced significantly faster and cheaper and also offers easy personalization, reparation and distribution options. The bike was designed in composite material: simulations and preproductions were succesfully done tested towards production with composite sleeves.

BRAND & PACKAGING JIWE - bureau stationary With JIWE, we tried to create a brand for bureau stationary out of recycled plastic. These plastics are gathered on the East coasts of Africa. JIWE is Swahili for gemstone, a reference to the marble look of the product. The package is sober on the outside but exclatant on the inside to surprise the customer of the beauty of the recycled product.

PETTO - ready to cook meals PETTO is a slowfood - ready to cook food concept. Meals are prepared by graduated junior star chefs in educational city resto’s that can serve as (food) workshop facilities. Next to the slowfood city resto’s, we developed a unique retail packaging for the signature dishes to sell in premium food supermarkets. Ruben Van Aken

UTIL - modular multitool UTIL is a modular multitool that delivers ergonomic grip and biaxial handling in an ergonomic way. A sturdy yet recognizable logo had to be developed with a unique brand color to stand out of the bunch in retail. Packaging was designed for 3 specific toolsets. These are hangers that both show and inform customers about the product on both 4 sides.
