Protecting endangered species and their habitats TYPE OF M-LEARNING: Science, ICTS and Language PROJECT GOAL: •
Make students aware of the fact that they can play an important role in protecting animal species and their habitats
•
Introduce students into several apps.
TARGET AUDIENCE: •
6th form students. It would be a great opportunity for them to share their findings with other school groups
TECHNOLOGY AND INFRASTRUCTURE EXPECTED: •
Students will be asked to bring their own devices from home (BYOD) to take pictures and do research.
•
WiFi will be needed to do research. Students will be allowed to use multiple websites to get information.
•
As they will work in small groups one device per group should be enough when working with Prezi
•
Wifi and an overhead projector will be needed when giving their oral presentations.
•
Apps that will be used: Picsart, Linoit, Prezi
STAKEHOLDERS: The whole school TIME ALLOTTED: ⅔ weeks
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT: Task 1: •
Using a mobile device students will get pictures of different areas of the school/neighbourhood that show we are not respecting the environment .
•
Students will use Picsart to create a collage with the pictures taken. It will be sent by email to the teacher.
•
All the collages will be shown in class with an overhead projector. We will discuss them to become aware of the problem and find possible solutions.
Task 2: •
Working in groups, students will answer the following question given in a canvas(linoit.com): “Which animals are in danger of extinction? why?” They will use Internet to do research and will post their answers.
Task 3: •
Working with the same groups they will select one of those species from the Linoit wall and will create a Prezi with the following information:
•
A description of the animal
•
Its habitat
•
Reasons why it is in danger
•
Some advice on what we can do to revert this situation
Task 4:
•
Students will give an oral presentation showing the result of the investigation to the rest of the class. They can show it to other groups or to the rest of the school in Assembly.
