LIGHT. SPACE. EVOLUTION. The objectives of this project were to discover spatial qualites while maintaining a boundry. Boundries of Earth, Sky, Water and Society. Relationship were discovered throught the continuities of ‘Spatial Edges’ that were provided by the previous elements. The individual unit was concentrated on to achieve a desired quality. In this instance the goal was to creat a gradient of light quality by manipulating the operative louvers. The project progressed to provide a pavillion type space for the manipulative use of the occupant. From there the pavilion was developed into a dwelling. This final iteration was to ecompass the interaction of all four of the previous stated elements.

To design a space that embodies the way of life of the Benedictine Monks of Subiaco Monastery. Calling for the addition of a library to house manusripts, a library, and a private

chapel. Stitching the new spaces to the existing cloister was accomplished through the design of a meditative vegitable and flower garden. Acting as the muse, an exisitng limestone retaining wall was used as the spine of transition in which a monk would weave their way down the side of the hill. The key space was the chapel that seemingly floats over a meditation pool, overlooking the cemetary were accomplished monks have been laid to rest.

MANIFEST. MANIPULATE. MEDIATE. This series of models shows how one can speculatively explore the opportunities for building materials, building systems and construction technologies to inform decisions of form and space. Understandings developed through this study include a deeper awareness of the physical criteria of buildings (relationship between structure and envelope, envelope and context, and between these and the form and use of adjacent space), and exploring the role of structure in generating architectural space and form. Models represent manipulated steel and concreted structures.
