COTTESLOE CENTRAL VILLAGE MASTERPLAN N.T.S
Perth has a 150 km long metropolitan coastline. Due to urban sprawl development 167 native species are on the verge of extinction, putting at risk Perth’s title in the global top biodiversity hotspot list. Other environmental, social and economic consequences of urban sprawl are evident in Perth on a day to day basis, and result in an inefficient urban fabric. The city no longer has the capacity to continue expanding in it’s current manner. Perth needs to move away from sprawling development towards more dense, diverse, efficient, green and purposeful design. The Australian Dream, car dependency and stagnant planning processes form a vicious cycle that demand the start of a long term shift. This thesis takes Perth as an example for how to shift an uncontrollably sprawling city into one with sustainable district centres, also known as urban villages. To achieve this we have produced an urban village model with key planning and design principles relevant to Perth’s context, focusing on building arrangement and landscape design. The model is applied to the district centre of Cottesloe by reconsideration of planning policies and detailed design. The proposal for Cottesloe could be seen as an example for other district centres in the central region of Perth. The result of this proposal would go far in ensuring the future sustainability of land and resources in Perth through significantly reducing the need for urban sprawl. AMAGER FAELLED MASTERPLAN N.T.S
AmagerfĂŚlled holds many historical layers, from the old coastline which first shaped the unique nature qualities, the development of Amager by landfill and the old artillery mounds. To safeguard the area from urbanization, the project seeks to enhance these layers by unfolding the grounds as a fully developed park. Respect for the local ecological conditions and urban context make experiences that guide discovery and reading of the site. The project works with a combination of a general management plan and small scale interventions. The management plan functions to keep the grounds from becoming completely forested from succession, and preserve the openness that relates to the history of being a beach meadow and commons. Grounds management consists of the following three strategies: unmanaged dense forest, managed grassland, open wet meadow. The interventions are made at meeting points between the forest edge and historical layers. Accessibility is increased by creating flows through the area by connecting views and movement from north to south, putting focus on entrances to the area, creating a new path system and improving navigation by clearing vegetation and establishing view lines.

This project is part of a report attempting to create an evidence-based design proposal for a drug rehabilitation centre for the patients of Shalom House in Perth, Western Australia. The patient group consists of drug addicts throughout Australia who come into the house in need of curing their addictions and all the consequences that come along with it. The proposal has many elements that can help in the mens recovery, including communal housing, a spiritual garden, a series of self-constructed follies, sport facilities and many more. Taking the existing morphology of the Hong Kong, we speculate how the city may change physically if an instant medical solution was applied. Our solution consists of a series of medicine towers which monitor each inhabitants health via gamma beats and provide medical support through a rapid response subterranean network. The city grows within a certain radius of medicine towers, neglecting its surroundings. UNDERGROUND PEDESTRIAN NETWORK N.T.S
As part of a group, my individual component was ‘The Veins’, a subterranean pedestrian network that connects the urban population throughout the city and into the peripheral. This design was the connector and network underlying the remaining four interventions. The Veins are a combination of eight cylindrical voids that run below Hong Kong. Each cylinder performs a purpose including the delivery of oxygen, medicine exchange, sunlight collection, and vegetated pedestrian paths. All of these elements are essential to the future of Hong Kongs medical system.
