The door consists of a single clear glass plate with dimensions of 3.60x3.00m and thickness of 14mm. The design intent was for the glass door to be free of any attachments and features other than the absolutely necessary. Therefore, provision for only the essential components was made:

Hinge

The door handle resides on the opposite end of where the hinges are located and consists of two identical parts, one placed on the inside surface of the glass panel and one on the outside. Each part consists of a curved hollow steel cylinder, which is essentially the handling part and two cylinders perpendicular to the first that serve to fix the handle on the glass panel. The features of the glass panel were specified according to the position of the hinges and handle and were supplied to the glass manufacturer. As such, the lass arrived with the features already installed.

1. The supports (top and bottom hinges) 2. The handle The hinges are situated very close to one of the edges of the glass panel. Therefore, the weight of the glass panel places a significant amount of load on the hinges, by transferring moments onto them. These proved to be the dominant forces and, as such, a design that could support them was proposed. The hinges consist of two parallel steel plates that are tightened together by a steel bolt and clamp the glass panel between them. One of these plates is welded to a steel cylinder, while the other is connected to the first one by steel bolts. These parts form the rotating assembly of the hinge. The cylinder is inserted into a steel socket which, along with it’s support mechanism and bracing, forms the stationary part of the hinge. This configuration allows for the hinges to withstand loads in any in-plane direction. The bottom hinge is slightly overdimensioned, since it additionally carries the load from the weight of the glass panel.
