“My Sister’s Keeper”

In my heart and mind, I will keep you there, at all times, Your Spiritual Seasons have come and gone, Your Treasured Heart, has made Heaven, Home.

Wherever you were, I was there too, Always connected and concern about you, A Sister’s Keeper, bonded in a special way, You moved from life’s journey, I know now where you’ll stay.

Singing from your soul, God heard your joyful songs, “GOD GOT ME NOW”, RIGHT WHERE I BELONG. Like a rose pedal, you bloomed, separated and faded. Yet the stem holding us together, is the promise I know you made it.

I’ll keep you there, in my heart and mind, Reflection of you, thoughtful, giving and kind, A Sister’s love is lifelong, it only grows deeper, I am and we are, A SISTER’S KEEPER.

Life’s Reflections

Cynthia

Ann Leaks was born November 5, 1959, to the late Mr. James Alexander and Gennes Leaks in Memphis, Tennessee. April 20, 1970, Cynthia received a bonus father, the late JD Colemon, whom she affectionately called “Mr. JD.” After experiencing tremendous weight loss from being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in July, suffering two strokes in December, and being placed on Hospice Care on December 27, Cynthia’s faith never wavered. Her favorite words were, “GOD GOT ME!”

On January 16, 2023, Cynthia answered God’s call, and he sent his angels and received her in her Heavenly Home. Cynthia was preceded in death by her brother, James Arthur “Pete” Leaks; grandparents, Ed and Essie Epps Burrell, Wylie and Bessie Coleman; nephews, LeAndre J. Leaks, uncle, Rev. Richard Leaks, Sr. (Dorothy), and several other loved ones.

Cynthia accepted Christ as her Lord and Savoir at St. John Missionary Baptist Church - Deadrick, under the leadership of Rev. LD McGhee and later under Pastor Dr. James Delaney. She attended Sunday School and sang in the choir. She loved Shirley Caesars, Southern Sons, and The Williams Brothers. Later Cynthia worshipped at several churches until she reinstated her membership at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in June 2022, under the leadership of Dr. Frank E. Ray, Sr., until her health failed. Cynthia also sung with “The Voices of Binghamton,” doing what she loves to do with her ‘high soprano’ voice.

Cynthia attended Dunbar Elementary, Rideway, Sherwood, and graduated from Melrose High School in 1979. She worked for several companies throughout her journey; Wesley Highland Towers of twenty years, Memphis City Schools, FedEx, and Caregiver to others, and she loved to clean and help others.

Cynthia leaves her wonderful memories to be cherished by her loving family, brothers; Curtis Leaks, Sr., Charlie Leaks, Leon (Karen) Leaks, Levell Alexander and Clarence Alexander, sisters; Angie “Nesi” (Climmons) Jones, Carolyn (James “Pete” deceased) Leaks, Gladie M. Dean, Lee Anna Finch, Wil Alice Connard, several loving nieces and nephews whom she was concerned about, often asked about. She also leaves her aunts, Ms. Pearline Leaks and Mrs. Rosie Lee Holmes, cousins, nieces, nephews, family, friends, neighbors, and long-time friend, May Ella Robinson.

Reflections of Love

(Respectfully, Three Minutes Please)

“I’m Free”

Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free, I’m following the path God laid for me I took his hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play Tasks left undone must stay that way, I’ve found that peace at the close of day If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah yes, these things I too will miss Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow

My life’s been full, I’ve savored much, Good friends, good times, my loved one’s touch

If my time seemed all too brief, Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief

Lift up your heart, rejoice with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.
