The hospitals of South Palm Beach County are the centerpieces of a cutting-edge health care community. Boca Raton offers a wealth of opportunities to those who seek care (or employment!) in the medical field. From rapid response emergency facilities to revolutionary cancer treatment centers, the hospitals and medical services in and around Boca Raton have become some of the best in the nation.

Boca Raton Regional Hospital

Two years ago, Boca Regional announced its formal partnership with Baptist Health South Florida, the region’s largest health care organization. The Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute, in the Harvey & Phyllis Sandler Pavilion with satellite locations, provides multimodality care to some 4,000 newly diagnosed patients every year. The award-winning $73 million Sandler Pavilion houses imaging, radiation, chemotherapy and cancer support services as well as clinical research.
The Christine E. Lynn Women’s Health & Wellness Institute and its Center for Breast Care is internationally renowned and performs more than 90,000 procedures a year. The Marcus Neuroscience Institute serves as a state-of-the-art nexus of care for neurological and neurosurgical patients, and has transformed the landscape of clinical capabilities available in the region. The Christine E. Lynn Heart & Vascular Institute was the first open-heart program started in Palm Beach County in more than 23 years when it opened in 2006. Since then, the Institute has performed more than 2,500 open-heart procedures, more than 20,000 cardiac catheterizations and nearly 5,000 angioplasties.
The Gloria Drummond Physical Rehabilitation Institute provides outpatient care in areas such as speech therapy, assisted daily living, neurology, musculoskeletal, cardiac rehabilitation, psychiatrics, wound care, aquatic therapy and diabetes treatment. The Orthopedic Institute specializes in joint repair, spine care and sports medicine. It’s the official sports medicine provider for FAU and Lynn University athletics. Its specialties include anterior hip replacement and joint resurfacing, alternative procedures that speed recovery.
This year the hospital broke ground on the Gloria Drummond Patient Tower. The new nine-story patient tower will include all-private patient rooms, surgical suites and critical care units. It will also house the Michelle and Michael Hagerty Center for Graduate Medical Education, more than doubling the current education space and helping recruit and retain top medical school graduates. The tower will encompass more than 417,000 square feet and will expand the hospital to more than 1.08 million square feet.

West Boca Medical Center
West Boca Medical Center (westbocamedctr. com), a Tenet Palm Beach Health Network Hospital, is a 195-bed acute-care hospital with more than 35 years of service to the community and with 500 physicians in a range of specialties and subspecialties.
The hospital features a variety of surgical options and approaches, including robotics. They are equipped to provide more surgeries, especially robotic-assisted surgeries, with the completion of a $9.9 million expansion, renovation and modernization of its surgical suite.
The hospital built a sixth OR, which went in use in 2018, and enlarged or updated five others. In addition, West Boca increased the size of its post-operative care unit, allowing for eight additional beds—bringing the total to 14. The final phase of the project was the renovation of two ORs. Overall, the nearly two-year project adds 12,000 square feet to the hospital.
The larger ORs improve the environment for surgical teams. Equally important, they allow for the use of Mako® Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology in joint replacements, and the da Vinci® Surgical System in a host of minimally invasive procedures.
The Outpatient Surgery Center specializes in minimally invasive surgery that results in shorter recuperation periods. West Boca also has surgeons who perform Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery, one of the latest advancements in

Among other distinctions, West Boca is known for superior maternity care services. Continuing a tradition of excellence, West Boca received five-star recognition from Healthgrades for both vaginal and C-section deliveries seven years in a row, signifying its place in the top 5 percent nationwide. Physicians in the Birth Care Pavilion also provide extensive care for premature births in the only Level III neonatal intensive care unit in Boca Raton or Northwest Broward County.
Breast care is also an area of high performance at West Boca. In 2013 the medical center introduced comprehensive breast care services at the all-new Breast Center at West Boca Diagnostic Imaging. The center is a Designated Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology. Patients can come to one location for all aspects of breast care to receive high-caliber treatment. Further, the onsite patient navigator and specially trained staff treat and coordinate all aspects of care with compassion and sensitivity in an upscale setting.
Additionally, West Boca was honored by the American Heart Association, earning the organization’s Get with the Guidelines Gold Plus Quality Achievement Awards for stroke and heart failure. It is highly regarded as well for its orthopedic care.
West Boca also offers another Emergency Center just south of its main hospital. Delray Medical Center, Delray Beach
Delray Medical Center (delraymedicalctr.com), like West Boca Medical Center, is part of Tenet Palm Beach Health Network, a perennial awardwinning acute-care facility in Delray Beach. The complex, with 535 beds, 600 physicians and more than 1,600 associates and volunteers, also is a Level I Trauma Center with specialized services including cardiac care, orthopedics, rehabilitation and neurosciences—and includes a 24-hour emergency department and Pinecrest Rehabilitation and Outpatient Hospital. The hospital’s 48-bed emergency department treats more than 50,000 visitors every year.

Like Boca Raton Regional Hospital, the two Bethesda Health hospitals—401-bed Bethesda Hospital East and its younger sibling, 80-bed Bethesda Hospital West—are members of the Baptist Health South Florida network. Pinecrest Rehabilitation and Outpatient Hospital at Delray Medical Center offers both inpatient and outpatient care, with an inpatient program dedicated to brain injury. The facility is an acute rehabilitation unit within Delray Medical Center that specializes in treatment for adult patients who have temporary or permanent disability as a result of an injury, disease, stroke, amputation or surgery.
