Chicken and Waffles: A Sweet and Savory Dish for Ultimate Belly Satisfaction  Two commonly enjoyed foods: chicken and waffles- combined into one menu item, resulting in a meal that’s the perfect combination of both savory and sweet. You may feel like you’re sort of having dessert, but can also justify it as an actual meal. This soul food dish is the epitome of comfort food and its popularity is evident as it seems to show up on the menus of many restaurants.  If ever a breakfast meets dinner combo were to go viral, chicken and waffles would be it. The mash-up actually dates back a couple hundred years, and we can guess why-the sweet, crunchy and salty trio must have been just as crave-worthy then as it is now. This decadent brunch recipe is just like chicken and waffles, except we literally put the chicken in the waffle- thus, making it easier to eat.

Ingredients for preparing Chicken and waffles For buttermilk waFFles       

All-purpose flour Granulated sugar Baking powder Ground cinnamon Eggs Salted Butter Vanilla extract

For preparing Chicken           

Chicken wings Buttermilk Hot sauce Worcestershire All-purpose flour Cornstarch Seasoned salt Paprika Black pepper Garlic salt Onion powder

How to prepare Butter milk waffles     

In a bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and ground cinnamon.

Then whisk in egg yolks, buttermilk, and melted butter and vanilla extract.

Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.

Gently fold stiff egg whites into batter.

Heat waffle maker, spray maker with non-stick spray and prepare waffles.

Instructions to prepare chicken     

 

Add chicken wings to a Ziploc bag.

In a medium sizes bowl, whisk together buttermilk, hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce and pour mixture over chicken in Ziploc.

Seal bag and marinate in refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.

While chicken marinates, prepare butter milk waffles.

When you are finished marinating chicken, add flour, cornstarch, seasoned salt, paprika, black pepper, garlic salt and onion powder to a paper bag and shake to blend well.

Add 2 tablespoon of marinade to flour mixture and whisk into flour to form crumbs.

Remove chicken from marinades and dip into seasoned flour thoroughly coating each wing.

Add wings into a baking sheet. Once finished coating chicken, placed in refrigerator.

Add oil to a cast iron skillet or heavy bottom skillet and heat over medium high heat.

While oil is warming, also turn on oven to 275 degrees.

Fry flour wings at a time making sure to not overcrowd the pan. After each side is golden brown, put the pan’s top on the chicken to steam and make sure the inside of the chicken is done. Remove the top and continue to fry outside until it is crispy.

Remove wings and place on paper towels to drain. Place wings on a baking sheet covered with parchment and add to oven while finishing the other wings.

Fry the remaining chicken and drain and add to oven. Add the remaining wings to the oven.

Add butter to waffles and allow melting.

Lastly, layer each finished waffle with chicken wings, drizzle with warm pure maple syrup and sprinkle with confectioner’s sugar and parsley to serve.
