They have either ear mites or infection that keeps them in constant pain. Ear infection is one of the top rated problems faced by pet owners, animal shelters, animal keepers and breeders. If you find that your pet is constantly shaking his head, rubbing one side of the head or ear on the floor or furniture or to some hard substance, then most probably, he or she is suffering from ear problem. When pets are infected in ears, they severely scratch their ears and moan low trying to get your attention. If you find smelly discharge of black, yellow or brown in color coming out from your pet, then he is certainly suffering from an ear infection. When you look at your dog’s ears, you can find that a dog ear canal is L-shaped, this design causes dirt, humidity, mites, other external parasites and wax in the ear canal to accumulate, which further results into ear infections. Compared to cats, dogs have long floppy ears that make it more vulnerable to ear problems due to lack of air circulation. Moreover, if your dog is hairy with lots of hair present in the ear, try to trim hair in and around ears for proper air circulation.
